Perfect location, Clean and unique!

Our overall stay was absolutely excellent. From the time we checked in with the two kind gentlemen at the front desk, to enjoying a fantastic dinner at the Mahogany Grille, to enjoying local craft beers at the Diamond Belle (with a world class ragtime piano player! ) and not to mention the vintage, clean room — The Strater went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was spectacular and that our time in Durango was memorable. While we also loved the Strater because it was within walking distance of the Durango-Silverton train, tons of restaurants and bars, truthfully, we would just come back to Durango to stay at the Strater and enjoy all that it has to offer!

They say it is haunted here slept well no guests in the middle of the night.

Best way to experience Durango. Within walking distance of the train and conveniently located in the heart of the historic district. Very nice rooms and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

The hotel is gorgeous! If you are in town you should definitely walk through it and have a drink at The Office, Matt is awesome and can even make you and Apple Mule now. Staying in the hotel is a whole other story. We had 2 rooms, one was perfect and one stayed 80 degrees all night (even with the complimentary fan). When I checked out I told them they should probably look at the ac in our room because it was so hot I was told I should have said something! I did I called the front desk 3 times and was told it is a historic hotel, it is hard to keep cool! The other room we had was nice and cool though. The windows had no screens so when we tried to open them like the front desk suggested (it was 76 outside) all the bugs came in. And to top it all off after we checked out I got two additional charges on my credit card for $25 and $30 for some new state lodging tax they conveniently left off my confirmation and didn't bring up when I checked in. So definitely visit the hotel but don't waste your money staying there.

Such a beautiful historic hotel, the decor and history is amazing.

I had my Starter experience … and it wasn't fair.
Because of the covid crisis I asked them for cancelling our booking but they nerver answered. Worst they charged my credit-card for 270$. And when I asked for explaination they didn't answer either!
Such a wonderful Starter experience.
We still expect to travel en discover america one day, but as a defensor of indepent contractors it is hard for me to tell this but next time I'll use Booking. They are more respectful for their customers. Last thing: I could have heared that they had difficulties with many cancelling due to covid crisis, but for 270$ I expected at least one message…

What a wonderful way to experience Christmas Eve enjoying the Strater “Suite” dining experience and having the entire Mahogany Grill to ourselves! Much thanks and credit to the Strater staff for thinking outside of the box and creating a pandemic-safe environment to share a fabulous holiday dinner as a family. The salmon, steaks, bread pudding and key lime pie were beyond amazing. Thank you, Strater Hotel!

Great historical hotel, nicely renovated, pleasant experience.

Absolutely beautiful hotel! Loved the antique furnishings and room decor. Very friendly staff! Would have been nice to have our coffee replaced each day instead of having to go to the front desk and ask for it only to find out they were out.

It’s convenient to everything! The rooms are clean and very quaint, what you would expect from a historic hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly!

Worst hotel I have stayed at in some time.
employees have no idea what they are talking about (poor training)
No parking unless you use meter on street and get up a 7am to start feeding it.
Staff told us we had to park and take our luggage in but we couldnt take luggage cart out of building. Really!
No signs of handcap access have to drag suitcases up steps on side of building or in front around the lune of people on street walking.

The Antique Hotel was a fabulous place to stay! The beds were comfortable, the rooms were large, and the staff was absolutely wonderful!

My experience probably shouldn’t be explained, I hope the Strater praises the incredible employees they do have. Job recommendation wise: STAY AWAY.

I worked here and they discriminated against me cuz I was homeless n wanted to own a gun for my safety they didn't accept me for how hard working I was and how I got the job done.

This is our third stay here. Staff know us and help us when we need them. The hank staff is great in helping us get things together. I help them, they help us.

Great hotel. It’s a step back in time. Premium King suite is perfect. Awesome food too.

It is always a special place to stay for us. Had a fabulous time. The Diamond Bell staff were top of the line, entertainment was relaxing, intimate and fun! Front desk and restaurant staff were wonderful! We will be back.

My daughter and I came to spend some time in the quant little town of Durango. We booked our room via Expedia for five nights (Jan 7-12). We arrived early so we checked our bags and took a stroll down Main Street. There are so many places to eat and shop downtown.
Once we were able to check in, we took the closet (elevator) to the third floor, room 300. We were pleased with the room. It was cozy and warm. The views were nice as well.
One thing to mention is that there is no room service, but the staff were kind enough to bring us a menu from the diamond grill and they took our order and brought food to our room.
One more thing, on very windy night, the wind screeches very loudly, but we didnt mind. It just added to the charm lol.
We will definitely be back.

Yes a historic place to be in if you like that way. The surrounding is excellent and right in the center of the town walking distance of 5-10 mins to train station. The hotel has restaurant which is excellent and reasonable. The rooms are ok size as the setup does not leave any place to move around except to sit on a bed or chair. This is for a classic room. There is absolutely nothing in the room. No Refrigerator or microwave or coffee place. If you stay go prepared. Staff is nice. Overall good experience.
