Not a nice neighborhood and it wasn’t clean.

I loved my one night stay at The Sweden House. It reminded me of an old boarding house in the 1800s.
it was clean and the bed was comfortable. I recommend a stay there.

When we arrived the police broke in cause there was a bunch of people smoking crack. Pinches rateros y mentirosoS. Don’t stay there!

The hotel was unbelievably dirty! The toilet was filthy, the shower had several inches of dirty water in the tub that took hours to drain. Hotel smelt of weed and cigarettes. Had to leave after 1 night. The hotel felt unsafe. Also in a bad neighbourhood. Staff were polite though.

I join the gang and say if I could give ZERO stars I would. It should be a breach of human rights to stay here. A dark experience, just don’t do it. Get a sleeping bag and sleep in a park, it will be cheaper and more peaceful.

The good: The place is centrally located. The room itself was adequate — attractive yet sparse and was relatively quiet; the bed was comfortable. The not so good: Located in crack-addict central. Many homeless on streets around hotel; area did not feel safe. Front door to hotel was locked when we arrived. No one answered the phone numbers posted on the door. It took thirty minutes before we could get in the hotel and another 15 minutes to find someone who could check us in. One key was given along with information about the various bathrooms available. That's it. The electric outlet situation in the room was ridiculous, bordering on dangerous. One outlet in entire room. The microwave, refrigerator and TV were plugged into an extension cord hanging in mid-air due to the fact the cord for the mounted flat screen TV was very short; it hung down about five inches from the bottom of the screen. The puddle of water (leaking from the pipes? ) below the hanging jumble of cords did not instill a sense of security or safety. No heating or cooling in the room — and it got very warm in the room despite the usual cool August temperatures. Service was non-existent. Getting additional towels was challenging. The one and only lamp in the room was missing a light bulb. A man came to replace the bulb, took the lamp and we never saw it again. In sum: you get what you pay for, and perhaps a bit less.

I'm still in this undignified hotel tonight. We are horrified by the attendance of this establishment, discussions in the hallway, smells of cannabis in the hallway, the size of the tiny rooms, etc. The photos on the site suggested simple but spacious and clean rooms. We are not judgmental. But we will have to abandon this accommodation (non-refundable) tomorrow morning to be able to take a rest and wash in a real en suite bathroom (clean this time) and leave this nightmare!

We never thought in a million years we would stay in such a disgusting, disappointing, urine infested homeless shelter. NOTHING like the photos or the description online. You couldn’t pay us any sum of money to make us stay there again. Sharing a bathroom and shower with a bunch of drug addicts was terrifying. avoid at all costs. Witnessed multiple brawls outside our window. We had to walk through mounds of human poo to reach to main entrance. Listened to drug deals going on outside our window at night. People would shoot up drugs too. We had to lock up our suitcases every time we left our room as we were worried about our room being ransacked — other reviews mentioned their property being stolen. Overall, I cannot wait to go home and have a proper shower to wash off all the diseases I caught at this ‘hotel’

There are homeless people laying out in front of the hotel. The mentally challenged are also walking back and forth. It smells like urine as you walk to the hotel. I didn't realize it was a shared bathroom, the tub was not kept clean. There are roaches in the room. This hotel was way over priced for the service. It was warm in the hotel room, but the temperature was in the low 60 in San Francisco.

DON'T STAY IN THIS HOTEL! I made the mistake of reserving a room and I will always have the memory of getting this room as the worst part of my honeymoon.
NO restroom/shower in the room.
Restrooms/showers are shared-1 for each floor.
NO air conditioning/fans in the room.
Place is hard to find and in the slums of San Francisco.
Witnessed a gang fight on the way in and practically had to step over a large group of homeless people setting up camp for the night about 50 feet from the entrance of the hotel.
Television gets 4-5 channels, of which, 2 are shopping channels.
Check-in and Check-out is a pain.
Guy that runs the place is Unprofessional and argumentative, as well as dismissive of the problems that he has brought to his attention.

We had 4 nights booked here, on the 3rd night they had double booked our room with someone else already inside with our stuff! This person or possibly a staff member had stolen something very important to us. When we confronted them, they held no responsibility and spoke to us incredibly rudely. It was a horrible experience and nothing was resolved because they kept ignoring our calls. They were so unhelpful for something that could've been avoided if they'd done the right thing and not let a random into our room?!?!?!

Very bad location… will not recommend to anyone. The pictures on website are not accurate of what the place looks like inside or out. Did not get any money back … awful! Homeless all over the neighborhood … on you owns risk…

They advertise t. Vs in all the room along with mini fridges and a desk. That was not the case. When I confronted the night manager he said he knows the website says they have it but they don’t and if I have a problem I could leave. He said this at 11 at night. They also refused to give a refund even tho they false advertised. In the morning there was a huge puddle of water on the microwave and all over the floor ruining cloths and documents. The walls are also paper thin. I herd everything in the rooms surrounding. I was on the second floor and herd everything on the first floor. I’m not over exaggerating. Stay at your own risk!

Friendly staff. Easy to get to and from the BAR. A few good restaurants nearby. Does Not have a Lobby but the office is nice. Didn’t give 5 Star only because there are only limited showers available on the 2nd floor and it's problematic if you are in rush to get out of the hotel. Other than that it was a great experience. Almost forgot, the Union Square is located in a walking distance from the Hotel which makes it nice so that if you are in SF for Shopping or Business you have pretty in the best area.

What an awful business. I made a reservation through Travelocity and indicated I will pay when I arrive 5 months later, a common feature on Travelocity that allows you to cancel ahead of time if needed without getting charged. They went ahead and charged me the full balance up front with my place holder card which put me in a negative balance and created many fees and stress. On top of that, they don't even answer their phone. Given all the other reviews here about the place being a dump, we can add sketchy or unethical business practices to that list. Don't stay here, don't make reservations with them, and if you have a chance, ask they be de-listed from Travelocity and any other online hotel booking service.

Extremely filthy. Smell of urine and smoke on the floors and in the room. Homeless people and Junkies at the entrance in front of the hotel and also sometimes inside using the facilities that are also shared with other customers. Very noisy at night. Also there are insects inside the room and particularly in the bed. Couldn't wait to check out.

This hotel is more like a hostel. Room has a bed, micro and refrig. My complaints are that the room was not clean, the sink was really clogged and the communal bathrooms were all locked in the am. This place is only good for a night's sleep if you want to be close to downtown.

The employee was nice, but the pictures online look nothing like the room. No space, the sheets had holes in them, and there was a clump of cut hair on the floor. Also smelled like weed and there are crackheads EVERYWHERE outside.

WHAT A NIGHTMARE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Let's start by stating that this place is no hotel — it's not even a hostel! It's a drug den. I booked on Expedia (mistake) and the pictures they have listed are completely doctored. The place looks nothing like what's advertised. I was greeted by a locked door (3pm — check-in time) and a note on the door stating to call some number to get let in. Must've been a silent buzzer, because nobody (other people waiting) heard it go off… We just got yelled at by a man, whom I can only assume is the equivalent of a super for the place, to "Just pull the f**king handle". He disappeared in to their "office" where every guest's personal information was spread out on a table for all to see. Literally. He told us to find ours, sign it and give it back. A little confused, and taken back, we did such that. Then we were pointed to our rooms, and told where the bathrooms were; not that it mattered, because we were also told something to the effect, "You can't use the bathrooms between 11pm and 8am… they're too noisy.

Amazing renovation along with incredible managment. When they realized I wasnt really liking my first room the manager got to work and made sure I got the room of my liking. I def reccomend this hotel I will def be staying in the future!

Pretty shabby and not at all what the pictures promised. After booking a room with a private shower, we got confirmation that the room was booked but it was with a shared toilet. Luckily the rooms was private and we got a private bath and toilet. (Somehow? ) The rooms were super tiny and for the price we paid for a week, we could have stayed at the Hilton down the street almost. I also had to cancel my credit card as I was being charged for things I clearly didn't order/do. Like a taxi ride two weeks prior to visiting the US and a order at Home depot a week after I left. Only thing was that once we settled in, the rooms worked okay and the plus is that it's close to the city/Square. But would not recommend it unless you are on a budget. Also Tenderloin is rough so walk in pairs.

Not go, clean talk but with sheets and towels stained, and/or broken, 1 single bathroom for many rooms, so you have to wait a lot for basic use missing more than basic items such as toilet paper, central location, many homeless people in the street, it doesn't appeal to go out at night.

Was told "I should be thankful the receptionist woke up to let me in the building" for my late checkin after midnight. Room cleanliness is awful. Sheets on the bed were stained. Holes in the walls of the bedrooms. Terrible experience.

The place is great when it comes to helpful staff such as Serghei, Irene, and Bruce… But Catherine (The Owner's name) makes it a miserable occasion to be a part of. She has zero respect for the tenants, she's manipulative, conniving, and deceitful. Catherine promised us better facilities and five days later I'm still being attacked by bed bugs in a T. V. LESS room without any outlets. If these issues are fixed/corrected, I will update my review.

OMG where do I start. The location yes is great. The place is a dump. This is just a horrible place to stay at. This is not a hotel by the way its an hostel with some homeless people living there from city groups. I don't have a issue with home less people but not the experience I was looking for at this time. The bathroom was full of poop for 3 days forcing us to go across the street to use the bathroom. The noise and small is horrible. The bed sheets are a as bad as it gets and the constant of doors closing with never let you sleep. Zero starts do not stay here.

I am not well-known for making positive reviews. I am not going to start now! Even as far as hole in the wall SRO hotels go (and cheaper ones, to boot) … this one is a REAL doozy. You are met at the door when you CALL to check in by Anti-Stephen Hawking. Spitting image of Sir Professor with the ability to walk and talk. And that is about it. About the only thing his brain is good for aside from being resentful and vindictive about any negative feedback. Like how the microwave had never been used due to issues with the grounding plug not being accounted for. Anti-Hawking's brilliant (and retrospective) solution… tear off the safety device that keeps a high amperage heat device from creating an electrical arc which could either maim or kill someone directly or via the fire it creates. I was actually ASKED for my input by this minion flunky's boss when she "mistakenly" roused me from bed to tell me that my checkout was today and not tomorrow. Spoiler Alert! She was wrong. MY room had no television and in order to use the microwave without risking an explosion and committing Destruction of Property… I had to place it on the floor and use the buttons. WITH MY TOES! And given that there is only one twin outlet in the whole room, I actually had to unplug the icebox. The bed placement makes navigating the room around all of these wires DIFFICULT. I will say the showers are generally decent and modern, just to sugarcoat this Truth Turd. But yeah, Truth Turd.

Rooms were clean but the location is awful. There were junkies shooting up in the street outside. Needles everywhere. Not worth the price over personal safety.

This is an odd little hotel; I think you need reservations before coming to the door. It's hard to find the door, and to check in you need to leave a voicemail. I would describe the accommodations as being similar to a hostel but with private bunk rooms. If you're on a budget and don't need amenities, this is a good choice for a weekend. It is not, however, luxurious.

My brother currently stays here and one time I visited and used the restroom, which is located down the hallway and only accessibld with key card. In there I found there to be no toilet paper, soup, towels or paper towels of any sort. There were also two bed buds crawling on the carpet by the toilet. Rooms are meh, livable but not the best, hostel style living situations with many seedy characters lurking about.

If I could put 0 stars I would! Please for anyone's sake do not bother with this dump! You will regret every second of your booking! You will not get any refund after you have realised you have made this mistake! The rooms are not anything like what is advertised stay far far away from this booking.

I stayed here one night and the people directly across from my room must have been really on hard drugs the screaming and yelling was unbearable. Other customers who parked out in front of Swensons house their cars were broken into and things were stolen. Management is struggling desperately to get a handle on so many of these trouble tenants that seem to find their way down into these kind of Halfway House Hotel. I would say this is a very dangerous place.

If I could give negative stars I would. Absolutely appalling! I don't care how cheap it is. Don't advertise like it is a nice place if you are running a crack house. If it's a hostel call it a hostel! Stood outside unable to check for 15 mins calling the number that was taped to the front door with no answer. Once in side I was checked in by a resident not by staff?! Seriously?! They charged my card before we even got there. The room was disgusting, we walked in, turned around and walked out. Then after we left I kept getting texts from the number on the door I called with pictures of other people's ID's. Be careful with your personal information. God knows where it may end up. Istayed in a $65 hotel the night before it was 1000 times better than this place!

My experience was not so bad considering the price I paid for a 2 night stay. I stayed the night to run the San Francisco Marathon and it was relatively close to the starting line. The room I stayed in was acceptable because all I was really looking for was a place to sleep. It had a bunk bed (I was staying by myself) but, I only used the bottom bunk, a small fridge, a sink, a microwave, a closet with no door handle and the metal hangers where all bent up, and a dresser with one drawer missing. The room doesn't have a trash can. There was a mickey mouse done to the door where they taped the metal slab to the wall, but I made sure that it securely locked itself. The floor had certain areas where it would creek if you stepped on it. The hotel has a shared bathroom (very modern; second floor) for the hall which I was okay with because, you know, college student. It has a gate in the front of the hotel that you can easily enter with a sensor chip the assistant gives you. The assistant was really helpful as he answered all the questions I had. Smelled like weed in certain areas of the hotel. Good Wi-Fi. I guess coming from Los Angeles, this place wasn't as bad for me as it was for all the other people with negative reviews.

There was so much wrong with this hotel. Not clean towels, disgusting rooms. Not clean floor, gross toilet, with used paper in the floor. Bad neighborhood, weed smell all over and worst og All, roaches in the room! We had 5 nights there, bur left after one. We are usually not picky, but this was too much. Only thing is one of the staff Bruce was nice when er wanted to check out. Will definitely not recommend for anyone!

Don't expect a luxury hotel. It's a hostel. You get your own room but shared bathrooms. Nice people in a sketchy area. Just becareful at night when going or coming.

Rooms are clean and contemporary with tv, microwave, sink, fridge. There ends all thats good about the place. To be fair, it is affordable and close to attractions like union square, painted ladies, golden gate bridge and pier 39. They neighborhood is sketchy. Bathroom is shared with entire floor which was not kept clean or with soap and toilet paper. Parking isn't available and is expensive in the city. Stayed two nights.

The worst place I have ever slept! Please don't go there! Everywhere you are you smell cannabis. The rooms are dirty as hell and when we opened the fridge we almost needed to vomit. The towels had holes in it and it had brown spots on it. There was only one shower in the whole building with warm water and you had to search for a restroom with toilet paper. If you lose or forget something in your room you will not get it back, they don't react on phone calls, emails or text messages. I hope you guys are happy with my headphone… So it is your own choices to go here but you can not blame all the people who had warned you about these guys. It is maybe the cheapest but you're gonna be happy if you pay a little bit more for an better hotel/motel in the city.

I really like this hotel. It's luxurious without being hip or posery. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was awesome (even if it wasn't huge). And the location is perfect.

Cheap place to stay, near good transport links and stores.

This hotel is not worthy of being considered that but little more than a dingy hostel/dump experience awkward both for me and for all those who attended and will attend think again before you book. … a few things to tell. … the TV was rottada wualche wireless antenna and perhaps it was decade the room view was obstructed by another wall carpet odor is from vomiting, worse the rest room etc. To be demolished.

Seriously? The haters on here are clearly not from either coast. Guess what? you get what you pay for. People don't wipe your buttz around here for 50$ a night. Next time, scoop out another 400 for the luxurious experience you so humbly desire. "We are not fancy people. " Dear lawd. Totally a cool place to relax, get some space for a night or two, and enjoy the town.

Nope nope nope nope. That's all I can say about this place. My mother and I booked a reservation here after a couple days of back-packing. We aren't fancy people, all we were looking for was a bed and a shower. This place failed in both areas. It's in the middle of the ghetto, we were cussed out by a drunk homeless man while we waited to be buzzed into the "lobby" The front of the building is just a black metal door with a telephone number written on it. We were meant to call, leave a message with our names, and wait for them to unlock the door for us. Sadly, It took the receptionist over 10 minutes to realize we were waiting and open the door for us. When we walked in, we quickly realized the building we were in was much closer to a halfway house than a hotel. I'll skip most of the details of the checking in process but I will mention the place REEKED of marijuana. I normally don't have a problem with others consuming it as long as they keep it to themselves. I have bad asthma and could hardly breath on the bottom floor. After we were guided to the second floor, we entered the horror that was to be our room for the night. The room was too small for the door to open even half-way and there wasn't enough floor space to set up a sleeping bag. The wall had holes in it, The fridge smelled like urine, and the light would not stay on. What we found next is what made us take off. We found dried blood and large black flakes of god-knows-what in the sheets.

The front door of the room did not close and the bed was a little bed where you came home barely alone (I had booked for 2 people! ). I tried to contact the owner to ask for another room but she wouldn't even talk to me! The result: she cancelled our reservation even unannounced and that is that we ourselves to the street to look for another hotel at 8: 00 in the evening.
It's just unthinkable to do this, zero courtesy and a shameful service.
I mean really believe me.

Beware. The host advertise his rental room on Airbnb. The picture shown was a decent and tidy room. However, when I paid and arrived there on May 29th, the unit was completely different from what was advertised. The room itself was stunk with urine. It was dirty and filthy. The area itself is localized by drug addicts and homeless people. There was even problems with the door so it can't be locked. Lol When I question the host for the advertisement discrepancy, he refused to acknowledged his failure to disclose the room condition. He even insisted that I place a cancellation with Airbnb. However, I'm not that stupid as I would not get a refund. I finally found another rental unit in San Francisco, and I'm still trying to mediate this issue with Airbnb. The host was clearly dishonest and disceptive. Please beware. This is from a Canadian Traveller to San Francisco.

Great Hotel for the price if you want to be near everything in SF. All you complainers, go pay 5x more and get a hotel room at the Marriott. I'm a big traveler and frequent hostels and cheaper hotels, and this place will be my new hotel when I go to SF. My mate and I had a clean room, the bathrooms and showers were also clean. We were only in the room to sleep, so it made for a great experience and left us both with a bit more money for for food and drink. Thanks.

The hotel is cheap but I have no idea why there are alot of 1 star rating.

The hotel smells, is cruel, leaky Windows, rats and garbage in the "backyard" and everything is dirty!
Then the total amount of the loan was charged — even though it was supposed to a cancellation possible — card! Now we have to fight even for the money.
Be careful! Criminal, dirty store, in the criminal area, where no woman should stop in the evening.

It is the worst hotel. Firstly, it is located in such a terrible area: drug addicts are everywhere. Secondly, the hotel is very dirty. Sinks are very small with permanent drain problem. Ones, I asked a hotel manager when they intend to change bed-clothes. He said – “you are the first who asked about it”. How do you like it? It is only one true about the hotel – it is cheap.
