I would strongly recommend looking into any of the many upscale hotels nearby than to come to Stanford first. The prices of rooms are high, and the quality of its 'ideal' location is trumped by how terrible the views from the rooms are and how unaccommodating the hotel is. Furthermore, the lack of diversity in the guests that stay here, but more so in the cleaning staff would likely make non-white guests feel uncomfortable and out of place. I stayed here with another guest (who completed the booking) paying for a room with a premium view. We tried to check in at our scheduled time or 4:00 pm, but the room was not booked under the correct name, and it took 15 minutes for the front desk to tell us that our room was booked under my name instead. Traveling up to the 4th floor was humorous as the hotel had only 3 elevators that never failed to arrived within 3 minutes of a button press. The room we were assigned seemed nice and cozy at first, but then we realized that there was construction right across the street from our room! We quickly decided to request a different room as the 'view' part of our payment was not received, and we were certainly not going to try to sleep in the afternoon or morning with the construction's buzzing and banging. The front desk offered us a room on the 1st floor, but after requesting a room on the same floor or higher, we were told either "wait… for a new room to open up, or it's a no. " I am certain that had we been white or similar to the other guests we would not have been treated as such. Our new room had a view of the vegetation garden and piping! Eventually, another family moved in to the adjacent room with which we shared a connecting door. Their children would scream and cry in the early morning and late night which made our stay even worse. Really, we felt envious of those staying in the surrounding hotels, and so I would again strongly recommend one to consider said hotels first.
