The first comment I'd like to make is that Sky Lodge is, in my opinion, superb value for money. I have always stuck with the big chains (and still do most of the time), but the prices close to Perth railway station were, at the time I wanted to spend a couple of nights, high enough to persuade me to look a little further afield. I found Sky Lodge via Google Maps… I had to make a few enquiries before arrival, as my plans changed a couple of times. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, and whilst I had no particular need to speak to anyone (apart from check-in / out, of course) during my short stay, the same friendliness was also clearly evident in person. Our twin room, located in one of several small blocks, was welcoming, spotlessly clean and actually a bit bigger than I was expecting — certainly more spacious than the majority of chain hotels (Travelodge / Premier Inn etc) that I've stayed at. Comfy beds with duvets and a couple of pillows, reasonably sized wardrobe, a mid-sized flat screen TV and tea / coffee are all there. The Wi-Fi was rather slow (I had a reasonably good mobile signal, so tethered for internet access) but for basic use, such as email or casual browsing, it would be fine, and one should remember it was free of charge. The fairly large bath (with power shower) had plentiful hot water, heated rail for the provided towels, and like the rest of the room, was spotless — very much appreciated after an exhausting, unexpectedly long day. We made use of the local takeaway menus that were in our room, and met the delivery driver (bearing a rather tasty pizza) at reception. The breakfast room — just a few yards away — is perfectly adequate, and, as everywhere else, is very nicely kept. Whilst the free brekkie is basic (tea / coffee, chilled fruit juice, toast, cereal, yogurt and a small selection of crumpets / croissant etc), you can help yourself to however much you want, with plenty of butter / spread / jam etc to choose from. Having taken note of the phone number, we used the same taxi to get to & from Perth station each time, with the fare being around £12 or so. Even with this, it was a far cheaper option than staying 'in town', and aside from an accident causing a huge traffic jam one evening, the journey wasn't much more than 10 minutes. Although the times weren't of any use to us, there is a local bus service serving Perth, with a stop about a hundred yards from the entrance road. The only criticism I have is that some of the walls are a little thin. At no time were we disturbed by noise (in general, the place was rather quiet), but I was conscious of not wanting to have the TV on too loud at night, in case we disturbed anyone… We arrived / checked-in later than planned, and whilst approaching our room, it was quite easy to tell, from the corridor, that a couple were very much enjoying their stay in our block! Again, we were never disturbed (in fact, we didn't hear any noise at all once in our room) and I don't feel it would warrant 'loosing' a star. Overall, I was very pleased with my stay, and especially glad that I'd decided to try this place inside of my usual choices. Exceptional value for money, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Sky Lodge. Next time I'm travelling in / through Perth, this will be the first place I check availability for.
