John O'Groats Hotel

So this is quirky self-catering accommodation right at the tip of the country. Well-equipped, spotlessly clean and right on the water. We booked this for a weekend getaway and it was superb value for money. Would not previously have thought of staying in JOG but it was a handy location for exploring other beautiful spots. Would be very happy to return again! Some very nice touches and well thought out! We stayed in the Jan de Groot suite and have to say we loved it! Falling asleep to the sound of the sea was simply magical.

Little bit if luxury at the end of the UK, beautiful rooms friendly staff in a mesmerising location.

Photos can never do the retreat any justice. This is such a breathtakingly beautiful part of the country you'll want to pack it all in and run a farm! The lodges are well stocked with all you could want including washing machine and dryer, apple TV and a welcome basket of local produce and the walks are spectacular. The locals are so friendly even taking us to nearby beauty spots on the way to the post office (you couldn't make it up! ) Not a Tesco express for miles around (16 miles to be precise) bliss… so bring any home comforts unless you want to drive and absolutely bring sturdy walking shoes and decent coat as the temperature can drop pretty quickly during the day.

Easily the best self catering accommodation we've stayed in, just make sure you opt for a seaview and you won't be disappointed.

Paradise at the end off the country, view is magnificent and the accommodation superb have been twice since we found this gem of a place and will return again.

An amazing place to stay, whatever the weather. A lot of people may see a bleak landscape, but there is beauty in the desolation around John O' Groats. The Natural Retreats accommodation here is the perfect counterpart; warm, cosy, full of local books to enjoy.

A fantastic place to get away and enjoy stunning views at the edge of the world. The retreat is a stone's throw from the water's edge, and the adjacent harbour offers a frequent ferry service to Orkney. Beautiful rooms are well presented and furnished. Fantastic attention to detail including a welcome hamper and handwritten 3-day weather forecast.

We stayed in the Jan De Groot suite here. I had no idea it would be so amazing. The views were absolutely breathtaking. The kitchen is full functioning so we cooked dinner and watched the sun set. The bedroom is on the 3rd floor with the copper bathtub that you feel like royalty in! Quiet area with nothing but beautiful Scottish landscape around.

Booked the fancy suite with the top bedroom with a giant copper tub inside it. Thoroughly enjoyed the room and the ability to make dinner in privacy & have comforts such as Wi-Fi & TV.

Unfortunately they went out of their way to upset everyone, they took over the carport, although the the council tax payers paid for it, they want to close the harbour to locals except those who pay. They also closed done the famous signpost after sixty years.

Visited in May, loved it. The lodges are brilliant — love the massive windows that make the most of the view, and the wood fire was welcome as well! Must go back and explore some more.
