Had a lovely spa day was awesome, from the minute we entered the hotel, greeted with a very friendly welcome at reception, taken down to spa area by lovely gentleman, then looked after by the lovely friendly spa staff, our treatments were immense. Our afternoon tea was excellent, served by great staff again. Highly recommend.

Fantastic hotel, staff super friendly! special mention to Donny the concierge, a credit to the hotel. Will be back again soon.

Loved our room. We has a fantastic stay. Foood was great staff were also great. Only thing I would say is more time inbetween course at our meal we had just finished starter and minutes later our main arrived then same with Desert. We had a child free evening and would have sat for a while enjoying our time. We were finished our meal in 50 minutes.

Great staff let down slightly by catering mis management. Attention to small detail needs to be reassessed. would I stay again probably yes.

Just back from a two night stay, won’t be back. Hot water coming out cold tap, zero air conditioning in room. Breakfast was terrible, both orders were wrong. Milk for cereal lying out warm, plenty of staff but still waited over 20mins for a drink even though we were the only ones waiting. Found the receptionist very rude and unwelcoming, would not recommend this hotel.

I recommend going here it is a very good hotel the pool, spa, steam room and even the room is so excellent this is the best hotel 👍

Birthday treat in Edinburgh. Like any good hotel the staff are helpful and have no problem engaging with their customers. Nice light lunch in the lounge. Looking forward to dinner tonight. Quiet area away from the city centre but everything is walkable. Wear comfortable shoes and take a bottle of water.

A lovely hotel with big rooms, the hotel room and bathroom look refurbished. Excellent dinner, tomorrow we’ll try the pool, 30 degrees C, 1.20 deep. We are enjoying ourselves, in spite of covid and no wine with the food.

From the start to finish it was a wonderful relaxing experience. I have chronic back pain and the massage really relieved it. Spa receptionist was especially helpful and cheery.

We’re only here overnight but the concierge was really helpful, carrying all our luggage in and taking it to our room, then valet parking our car. Feeling very pampered!

The food is exceptionally good in the restaurant. Dinner was superb and breakfast was equally good. The concierge was incredibly helpful with suggestions and directions. He went above and beyond to help us. The rooms are very spacious which is essential when travelling on a long journey with lots of luggage. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Nice hotel has everything you need for a short stay. Great location. Breakfast menu was great with a large selection including, vegetarian opitions. Prices were reasonable for the rooms. Rooms where clean and presentable. Staff were great and informative. The spa treatments where great and prices reasonable. Only negatives were, pool area was bland, dull, small enclosed in a concrete block. The rooms had windows but look out onto the next buildings windows the other side was the same yet the location is next to some of the best views in Edinburgh but blocked off. The decor was very much tatan tat in the rooms. The main menu was over priced and not much choice. None of the negatives were a bother to me but for others it might be. Overall its a pleasant and nice stay.

We enjoyed our stay, it was our second time as the first was so impressive. The hotel rooms are spacious and stocked with everything you need. The coffee machine in the room was a life saver and the warm milk is just a wonderful touch. Reception were very gracious and allowed us to have the room early as we had a ceremony to attend. This was such a blessing and made a huge difference to stress levels. Breakfast is wonderfully tasty and the decor is lovely. The staff genuinely kind and courteous. Will be returning. One point, few cosmetic touch ups could be done to ensure that the hotel stays at the top of its game.

Visited the Vital Spa and it was such a treat. The staff were friendly and kind, the pool was clean and blue, the treatment was soothing and cleansing, and I left relaxed and satisfied. Will definitely recommend the Spa, I didn't stay in any of the hotel rooms though so I can't say anything about that. However, if they are anything like the spa, then I would recommend them as well. Will be planning a return trip to the spa.

The rooms were very nicely decorated and laid out. Bathroom was spacious as well. Breakfast buffet was included with my stay and it was a good selection. My group and I ate at the restaurant one night and found it expensive for what the food was and it took a long time to prepare, especially since we were the only ones in the dining area. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Stayed last night (Sunday 8th July) and had a very pleasant stay. Check in was smooth and the lady checking me in was lovely and friendly. I came down for drinks in the bar and dinner and both where fantastic. Served by a gent in the bar (forget his name, blonde hair, glasses) but he was brilliant, a credit to the hotel. … Dinner was delicious and service excellent. All in all, my experience was fantastic and I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Thank you!

Great hotel! Room was very nice clean and spacious! Beds are extremely cozy! Perfect for my newborn and her crib. Couldn't believe the great customer service starting from the Valet people to the front desk. They all were so helpful and made you feel welcomed! The pool was really nice as well. The breakfast is great! Will stay here again!

The hotel is good. Extremely clean and tidy and the staff are great. And it's location is amazing. Right next to the horrendously ugly Scottish Parliament building and the wonderful Arthur's seat. The restaurant is a bit much for inside a Macdonald hotel, but I met the chef and he is lovely.

This hotel is located a short distance from the Royal Mile in the Edinburgh City Centre. Our room was large, modern, comfortable, and clean. Breakfast was delicious, but be aware that if you are having breakfast later in the morning it may be quite busy.

Best location for us whenever we're in Edinburgh! Near Parliament, Royal Mile and Arthur's See. Plenty to do within walking distance! Every type of food, beer or whiskey imaginable is steps away. Pubs and eateries galore — everything from vegan to burgers! You're gonna love it! Great restaurant in the hotel too!

Front desk staff were amazing! Ran into travel trouble and they helped fix it. Rooms are nice size given proximity to City center. Nice location, can definitely walk to everything. Breakfast staff a tad slow, might be my American impatience. Overall great.

We visited Edinburgh for the first time and stayed 2 nights here. It's in an ideal location being less than a 5 minute walk from the royal mile and only a short taxi ride from the train station. The room we had was quiet, spacious and comfortable and the breakfast was lovely. The staff were very friendly and we had absolutely no issues during our stay! The spa was relaxing and surprisingly quiet for a weekend and our massage was great. Would definitely stay here again!

The hotel is in a good location and was easy to find. The room was good, the concierge service was excellent and the breakfast in the morning was really good. However the waiting staff in the evening could have been better, they stop serving food at 10pm and at 9:50pm asked for a desert and they said sorry food service stopped at 10pm and when we pointed out it was 10 minutes before 10 they still said service had stopped.

Good hotel in a quiet location. The rooms are nicely furnished. By a cross road you are in 3 minutes in the Royal Mile. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Had a lovely stay, staff was kind and friendly. Restaurant was good with delicious food and staff were very friendly. Restaurant menu bit overpriced I felt but it compensate for the tasty food they provide. Overall best experience. Would like to visit again.

Was a lovely stay and one of the most enjoyable meals of my life for a reasonable price considering the quality. My choice of main was a king crab pasta dish in a lemon and peppercorn dressing. Coming from someone who's never been interested in shellfish I can say I'm a convert. Fantastic service. It was quite quiet which allowed us to be treated like royalty. The room was lovely with a comfy bed. The only issue was a very temperamental shower. Couldn't decide whether to burn or freeze us. Would definetly be returning for the Christmas markets next year. But bring a battering ram for the extremely rude tourists and mothers using prams as weapons.

We can not praise this hotel and it's wonderful staff enough. Nothing was ever too much for manager Andrew and his team. Our room was large, clean with fabulous views. Our son had his 3rd birthday on 24th Dec and the staff couldn't have done anymore to make our little ones day extra special. We then stayed for the Christmas period and again everything was simply perfect — we are still here but felt the need to write a review already as we are overwhelmed by our stay here and will return, and spread the word of what a fantastic hotel this is with incredible friendly staff — more than 5 stars given to Andrew, Frank and the rest of the team. I stayed at the Macdonald Hotel for 2 nights & could not fault it. The staff were all polite and helpful and the rooms were spotless. The bed was large & comfy and we also had breakfast included which was amazing.

I attended a seminar in one of the hotel's conference rooms. All the staff I encountered were very polite and helpful. The conference space was large and comfortable, the refreshments and provided lunch were very high quality. The location was also excellent for this sort of event, it was easy to get to the hotel which is just a short walk from the city centre.

There are not enough good things l could say about our stay at Macdonald Holyrood Hotel. We were only there for 3 days, which is not enough time to see this beautiful city. The staff was excellent! Our room was spectacular, the restaurant was beautiful, breakfast was delicious. Had the front desk staff not been so attentive, printed our bording passes and checked on our taxi, we would have missed our flight home. Thanks to all from Macdonald Holyrood Hotel and the people of Edinburgh that made our Honeymoon so picturesque and memorable. We will return!

Just back from one night stay with dinner, breakfast and a 55 minute treatment.
My mum booked this treat for my birthday, and what a wonderful treat it was ❤️❤️
We stayed in a basic twin room, which was beautiful.
At the dinner the staff were really pleasant, they actually went out their way to make my birthday a special one! They were so kind giving mum and I a glass of champagne each. Then after the 3 course meal, I was treated to a “Happy birthday” chocolate designed plate with chocolates on it. Such a lovely touch. ❤️❤️
The beds were really comfy, didn’t want to get out of it in the morning.

Had a swim in the heated pool, great size, and wasn’t busy at all.
Then mum and I had out 55 minute full body massage! Wow. Olivia was the girl who did my treatment, she was absolutely fantastic, have to say the best massage I have ever had. I really loved it. Mum had Shelly, Mum was also delighted with her treatment! Well done to both girls for giving us such a fabulous treatment.
All in all we loved our stay and will definitely be back again ❤️

Have stayed at this hotel twice in the last few months as part of a larger group. The customer service has been friendly and staff have responded to queries swiftly. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. The bedding is of a high quality, however the temperature of the rooms can vary significantly depending on location within the hotel. The food is of a high standard with silver service being offered also. The hotel appears to have had a refurbishment in between my stays and is now very deserving of it's 4 star status. I have not used the pool facilities, therefore unable to review this area of the hotel.

This hotel rates itself as a 4 star hotel, it's not! Our room was hot and the knob on the wall for the, "air conditioning, " was not there. We later found out that it didn't matter because there was no air conditioning. The bed was two mattresses pushed together and there was hair in the shower and under the soap holder on the bathroom vanity. There was a teapot and two cups in the room. The teapot was dirty. We washed out the cups the next morning and made tea and hot chocolate using the electric teapot. The electric teapot was clean. The next morning, when we picked up the cups to make tea, one of the cups had dried hot chocolate stuck to the inside of the bottom of the cup! The hairdryer only worked on cool. The restaurant staff was very nice, but both of the men in the blue velvet blazers picked their noses. Maybe I am too picky, but I do not consider this hotel a 4 star hotel.

Decent hotel, comfy/clean beds, and generally very friendly service. No complimentary coffee or breakfasts though, and the shower is a weird half-wall that easily swings open, allowing tons of water to get everywhere. I don't expect a bathroom to take a shower every time I shower, and it was annoying to constantly clean up.

Excellent bar and restaurant both serving above average food. Staff in those areas were extremely helpful and attentive. Recommended for a light snack or a full upmarket restaurant experience. Well worth a visit.

We spent one night in this hotel. We really liked the room. The 5th star is missing only because of some little things. The Sound in the bathroom did not work. And I had an issue at the reception. I had outdated 5Pound bills and someone at the reception said I could give them in for a change. After I returned from the room to get the currency another Person (who did not know about this issue) at the reception has been very rude and repeated in a very unfriendly way, that I am in a hotel not in a bank and that he cannot help me. It would be okay if they said it in the first place. I felt a bit muck about.

A Lovely Hotel on "Holyrood Street", right next to Scottish Parliament Building & Palace of Holyroodhouse & with Arthur's Seat (Rocky Outcrop) & Dynamic Earth facing it. A beautifully centrally located Hotel with Five minutes walk to the famous "The Royal mile". The Hotel was Nice, Clean, Warm, With Great Staff… May it be Front Office, House Keeping or F&B. The Rooms are Spacious, Clean, Hygienic, Squeaky Clean Washrooms, Comfortable, Great Comfortable Bed… With a great View.! Some Great Spread they have for Breakfast… Tasty, Healthy & Sumptuous. There Concierge is Very helpful & they render Great perfect advice. In-All… A Great Hotel to Stay in with the Family… Love Enjoyed having stayed there… :-) Thanks to One & All who took care of Us… Appreciate… :-)

Very comfortable bed, spacious room, very good shower space. Air conditioning working well, big screen TV. Nice room service. The attendants were very nice and the concierge gave us a great help with choosing a day trip to take in Scotland. Only bad thing was breakfast. A mix of buffet and "a la carte" with very few choices. For the price they charge for it, it's not worth it.

Had a great stay. The hotel itself is very close to many of the cities best attractions. Clean accommodations, good food, all around a great place to stay while enjoying what Edinburgh has to offer.

Superb room in a convenient location. Not too far from the heart of Edinburgh and the action but not too close either so you can get a really good night's sleep after a day of activities.

Pleasant overnight stay with breakfast. No car parking available. Clean and comfortable room, but bed was two singles stuck together. Breakfast had mixed service.

Visited during Edinburgh Festival so prices were ridiculous. I booked about a year in advance and still paid a lot. Hotel was ok but 4th floor rooms are well past their use-by date. Polyfilla'd holes in wall where trouser press used to be, stained carpets, clapped-out armchairs — pretty depressing. Breakfast fine and freshly cooked. Spa area nice and staffed by a girl who was incredibly cheerful for someone who spends their working day in a basement.

Well furnished but bad service. Takes them 15 minutes just to give menu for the breakfast? I wouldn't even call that a ****ing service —. —.

I stayed on February 2015 and their beds are so good to sleep. Very comfortable beds. Also had a chance to try their traditional breakfast. Tasty.

Old rooms/hotel breakfast below average nice staff.

Had Xmas night out on 13/12/14 and for a hotel of this reputation and at £45.00 a head the food was poor and cold and had to be sent back by people in our party. The room was over-packed that where I was sitting people had to pass plates round as the waiting staff could not reach to put on the table and if you needed to go to the bar 5 people had to stand up to let you out, definitely will not be back.
