Great place to stay, in the center of everything. You can walk everywhere or catch tour buses at the local bus stop right outside the hotel. Hotel is very clean and comfortable!

4 star hotel without excessive quality. The baby cot was very uncomfortable and so were the mulade. Proper but imperfect cleaning. The right service. Exceptional views, good location. The restaurant does deserve a congratulations: rich, cheap food and exceptional service. We ate 5 times there between dinners and meals. The restaurant I give 5/5.

We chose the Apex with the assumption this brand and 4 star hotel would have modern amenities. It's a hotel's responsibility to ensure their guests are comfortable. This "modern hotel" does't provide air conditioning for very hot summer days and nights nor does it provide a secure way for you to ventilate your room. I have never had such a miserable night sleep. It's important to know that you share a balcony with the entire floor, so if you open your balcony door to get air in, anyone can walk right into your room in the middle of the night… very poor security. So you have to pick, suffocate from hot muggy room or no security. They did provide a single 6" fan that was useless! Beware when booking this for your summer accommodations!

We stayed here a night and had a lovely time. Castle view was amazing. Just be careful there is another Apex right next door so don’t go to the wrong one.

Very good hotel with superb location. The rooms were very clean and large. The linens were fresh and the staff were very helpful with directions and recommendations. The hotel is located literally down the hill from the castle which is about 70-80 steps up. There are plenty of restaurants around and all the sightseeing places are within walking distance.

The rooms are absolutely wonderful. There is a lot of space and a modern look. Hotel service is great and speedy. They will do anything you need. The breakfast provided is the only area lacking. The menu is limited and not very tasty options.

Great hotel. An exceptional combination of excellent service, comfortable clean room, awesome location, and very nice amenities. This place brings together a cool modern ambiance with a warm, friendly, and knowledgeable service. The single room I got was small yet much bigger and more comfortable than most boutique hotels where I've stayed. The hotel is in a cool hip area of the city with a young crowd. It, however, was quiet and pleasant. The restaurant at the hotel serves a delicious breakfast buffet. Overall, a very nice pleasant and fun stay.

Excellent position close to all the old town has to offer. Comfortable bed, clean and modern decor. Rooms have a large couch and bathrooms are modern with great showers. Enjoyed the stay.

Lovely modern quiet comfortable hotel. Desk staff were amazing, helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms were comfortable, lovely comfy beds and bedding. The hotel, our room and ensuite were immaculate in every way. Breakfasts were fantastic. Buffet style with hot and cold foods or you could order from the menu. The restaurant for evening meals was equally of a high standard. Throughout staff were courteous without being over the top. This is a busy city centre hotel close to all amenities. Different coach tours in for one night, but the standards in every aspect were really high. It was good that staff were Scottish which for overseas travellers is a must. One of the best hotels we have stayed in for quite a while and would not hesitate to stay with Apex Hotels again preferring them to the large chain hotels. Thank you we throughly enjoyed our stay.

Excellent hotel ideally located for a stay in Edinburgh. I recommend.

I have been 3 days in this hotel. Great location in the center, nice person and friendly nice, clean, modern and spacious rooms!
To have 5 stars should increase a little on the amount of breakfast as it does not offer many things for the rest really nice.

The hotel is overall good and the staff very nice. The breakfast is plentiful. The beds are very comfortable and the room spacious and clean.
The hotel shows some signs of wear. The rooms had just been repainted and felt strongly about the painting. The carpet in the hallway was stained with paint. The evacuation of the bathtub leaks so bath impossible. Only one elevator works.

Great hotel only the handling of the breakfast was very confusing and too cumbersome. It's a great sun.

Came here for a work function dinner in the fifth floor restaurant and wow, what a view! Set menu was okay, with a nice vegetarian main course. Portions slightly smaller than expected but the wine was good.

Nice hotel, great location for the exploring Edinburgh. Currently undergoing renovation but it's not too obstructive. Rooms are comfortable if a little uninspiring, but the view from our 3rd floor room to the castle was stunning.

Very central Hotel. Perfect for visiting the Royal Mile. Spacious room with unsurpassed castle views. I would put the 5 stars but not for some works they were doing in the hotel on the same floor as my room, which caused that there was dust and a strong smell of paint in the room. The hotel is very good.
Important: A plug adaptor can be ordered at the front desk.

Super well located Hotel in Grassmarket Square which is a 5 minute walk from the Royal mile with a privileged view of the castle.
The rooms are spacious just like the bathroom and with TV of 42 ".
Comes complete: large hairdryer, iron and you can order at reception a plug adaptor.
The square where the hotel is has good pubs where you eat a bit of everything. And for Harry Potter fans there is a store 2 minutes away that you can not miss.

Good location of the hotel on the Grassmarket with a view of the castle, however the breakfast is really bad. Nevertheless, I would come back since price/performance total. Fit.

Generally really nice, we got given a castle-facing room which is great. However, the beds aren't comfortable (far too hard), our windows won't open (they don't have the key to resolve the issue), there is no air con, the walls have no artwork (althought the view out the window makes up for this). On a positive note, the location is great for tourists, the place is generally clean and well decorated.

Good central location. Had a room looking up at the Castle. Spacious room and efficient check-in/out. Would recommend for anyone looking for a business-style hotel in this part of the City.

This is a lovely hotel. Some refurbishment work taking place, but well managed to avoid any nuisance to guests. Refurbished rooms are comfortable, clean and well appointed. Rooms at the front of the hotel are affected by nuisance noise from revellers using the many pubs located nearby, but the hotel do provide earplugs. Food is quite good but in my humble opinion overpriced. Would definitely stay again. Good hotel.

Lovely hotel, lovely clean rooms and a surprise gift too. The only niggle is the lighting too dim for us ladies who put make up on!

Lovely hotel, amazing location and beautiful views of the castle, especially at sunrise and sunset. Minor issue with our room but staff very friendly and rectified it immediately. Definitely recommend.

The staff here is amazing, super friendly and very helpful! Gave me a complementary bottle of wine on my 30th birthday :). The location is perfect if you want to be in the heart of old town and close to all the museums, castle and some of the best food in the city. I would recommend getting a room with a view of the castle, it's absolutely breathtaking when you enter the room. The chefs here know how to cook!

Went here to visit the Finnish embassy in order to vote. The staff where very friendly and promptly direct us to our desired suite. The hotel was modern, clean and easy to navigate.

Only one elevator for the whole hotel!
Come back when the renovation is over.

Beautiful hotel with an excellent location for Old Town exploring. Grassmarket in your doorstep and walking distance to all the great attractions. Rooms are very comfortable and clean, high level of quality for the price.

Stayed for one night on business. The staff on the front desk were very friendly. My room, on the fifth floor, had a great view of the castle. The room had a massive flat screen television and all the comforts you’d expect. If there was one criticism, it would be that the room doors slam shut. Later into the evening this can become a little tiresome. Overall though, a good impression.

Arrived late and had a lot of hassle about finding my reservation, which they eventually did. The hotel is a bit dated, there was no way to control the temperature in the room either. The beds were comfy and the bathroom had decent toiletries but it seems over priced for what it is. You do get a decent view of the castle though!

It's in a good spot for exploring the city, the rooms are fine and clean. Breakfast service is excellent. It's undergoing refurbishment so felt the price was excessive and the reception administration was very poor, despite assurances to the contrary the one of our rooms was charged to the wrong card, no invoice or receipt provided. Please check your bill.

Really nice hotel bar a bottle pricey.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay. For being so close to the Royal Mile I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonability of the cost. Our room was very comfortable with a beautiful view of Grassmarket and the Castle. We experienced great service as well as good food. We would definitely stay here again if we ever get back to Scotland.

Very comfortable, nice beds, great shower. Right in the middle of all the action of shopping and pubs. Noisy at night until their cafe closes. Very hot rooms in the summer when sun sets.

Saw an Edfringe show here so can only give limited review. It's a beautiful, secluded location away from the busy Grassmarket which is lovely for visitors and overnight guests. All hotel/bar staff were extremely friendly and attentive too. Would love to stay here out of the festival.

Good central hotel. The beds in our twin were large and very firm but still comfortable. The restaurant was good although lacked atmosphere.

I stayed at the hotel during the 2017 Fringe Festival and the service was not good. The room is hot because there is no air conditioning and both elevators broke the second day. I had to climb up four flights of stairs each day. I would not recommend this hotel.

Had ordered twin beds but were originally given a single double bed, got a new room with twin double beds after bringing it up (unfortunately with a view of the lobby). Our room were cleaned between 9-10. Decent location, cute restaurants across the street. 5 minute walk to closest supermarket. No fridge. Shower made a mess on the bathroom floor because of the glass cover. Good Wi-Fi. Two Pokéstops in range! Nice and quiet bar/lobby. Expensive breakfast, did not eat here.

Upgraded to Castle view on check-in, which was a nice treat, and a wonderful view. Twin room was very comfortable with two double beds. Parking (£12) at the hotel was a handy feature in Edinburgh. A few niggles: the bath was very high, with no handholds, so getting in and out felt quite precarious. In contrast, the sink was very low! The complimentary take-home Apex duck found in the bathroom was full of water, so had obviously been used for a while, which was a bit off-putting. We were told that the breakfast the next morning was priced per item, so we're quite surprised when we were both charged £15 for a very light breakfast (the same price for a full breakfast). Overall, a lovely stay, and we would return.

The hotel has a great location for exploring the old town. It is only a short uphill walk to the Royal Mile. The rooms were very clean and spacious and we had a side view of the castle. Staff were very polite and helpful. Only downsides why it isn't a 5 rating is the £12 a day for parking and the continental breakfast could do with a little more choice. Although for £5 extra you can upgrade to a cooked breakfast but you then can't have anything from continental section unless you pay again.

The hotel is well suited to stop overnight. No special amenities. Nice beds, a tea set. Rooms are clean. He's definitely not worth his money. Breakfast is £16. The price is too big for you to be offered.

Very cozy and good facilities (SPA with swimming pool sauna and gym, spacious rooms, excellent breakfast)

Just stopped for drinks on Saturday night, lovely space for a drink either before or after a night out (if staying at hotel). We did notice that Tony Singh had opened a tapas style restaurant with Asian/Scottish fusion dishes. Well be back to try it out.

Went to apex grassmarket for a wedding reception and had a great time. I'm vegan and they catered well considering I was the only vegan there. Staff were friendly, surroundings were lovely and overall a great night was had.

Rooms are clean and have a pretty good view. The view of Edinburgh Castle from the restarunt on the top floor is great.

Excellent, very friendly staff. Comfortable room, great location, small but perfectly formed pool. Very good for families with children, my daughter loved the duck and the kids pack she was given on arrival. Highly recommended.

Great view of Edinburgh Castle from my room — the downside (not the hotel's fault) was the noise of late night revelers between about midnight and three in the morning. If this might bother you ask for a room at the rear. The room was very smart, as was the rest of the hotel. Good room sound proofing and I'd have given 5 stars.

Very accommodating staff especially when it involved our three year old and newborn. The attached restaurant was good but slow on a Friday night. There was unfortunately a lot of noise from both outside the hotel and the halls which is the main reason for not giving this 5 stars.

Really great hotel, fantastic location. Some of the corridors and the lifts look a little bit worn, but the rooms are very clean and spacious. Rooms with a view of the castle are very impressive.

Our short break in Edinburgh was from 6/11/15 — 8/11/15. We were impressed by this hotel as soon as we walked through the entrance. Check-in was easy and staff were pleasant and very helpful. The rooms were tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Unfortunately, I became ill during my stay and my friends were very concerned. The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to ensure that I was ok. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Pleasing rooms and efficient friendly staff.

We stayed in this hotel from 29th of March to 2nd of April. We are so delighted we have chosen Apex International Hotel to spend our 10th Year Wedding Anniversary. We got a lovely room, over-looking the spectacular view of the Edinburgh Castle and we slept very well and comfortably in that 4 nights of stay. We love the pillows. I just wanna ask where to order them? All the staff are all very welcoming and friendly. From the time of booking, even all the staff in the reception who were answering our queries over the phone are so nice. By the time that we arrived. The staff named Manuel already gave us assistance. My son got so unwell on the 3rd day, maybe because of the weather on our arrival. Raining and snowing. All the staff are so helpful and thoughtful. One of the staff named Duncan even gave us fruits and breads to keep for our son in our room during our breakfast in the 5th floor with the picturesque view of Edinburgh Castle. Manuel even took an effort to ask the chef to cook us some rice for our son so he can eat. My son felt really sick but it's only for one day, he felt better the next day. During our dinner in the Metro Brassiere, Vanessa and James Bond looked after us very well. Vanessa even took time to pacify my children who were crying that evening. The foods are in good quality and tastes good. We tried to fast because it is holy week, we just had Vegetarian meal and my husband ordered Duck leg which is so delicious. Thumbs-up for the chef.

Rather dissapointing for price paid direct, decent TV but not much else, only other plus was breakfast room with great view of castle. Pizza was poor.

Great hotel, very clean, impeccable service and spectacular views of the Castle. I can't judge the food because I always ate out. Beautiful also the sauna and indoor pool overlooking the Castle, particularly charming evening with Rocca lit.

Good business hotel. Rooms vary in quality with the rooms at the front having an excellent view of the castle and the ones at the rear looking over a courtyard / carpark. Also the rear rooms tend to be smaller and not as well decorated. A plus is a the Scottish Breakfast. A great way to start the day. Hotel shared areas look nice and stylish. Overall worth a stay but make sure you get a room with a view if the castle or you may be disappointed.

It has a great location, within walking distance of the Centre. It is very close to the bus station, and very well connected with the airport. It also has a supermarket and several restaurants around. The room they gave me was spacious and comfortable, and everything was very clean. Window overlooking the street but had good insulation and was not noisy. In addition it had a kettle electric water and several sachets of coffee, tea and chocolate, in order to prepare a hot drink, as well as some small packets of biscuits that complaints daily, and all of the best quality. The room rate includes access to the hotel's spa. To access it you must leave the building, but is worth the visit. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The free in-room Wi-Fi in this hotel is a refreshing treat, and although not spacious, the rooms are perfectly large enough. Breakfast overlooking the castle is a great experience, and the location of this hotel in the Grassmarket, right in the heart of the Old Town, is fantastic.

Never gonna come back. Terrible place.

Really liked this hotel. Price wise we got a good deal so it wasn't ridiculously expensive and it was certainly worth it in terms of the overall feel of this hotel. The breakfast was exceptional — one of the best full cooked you can get and kept us going until dinner.

I was staying in this hotel in December 2009. Unbeatable location. Perfect ratio. Very good breakfast. The view from the dining room over the beautiful castle. Highly recommended hotel. I'll be back. Without a doubt.
