Went to the ABBA night in Tontine Hotel on Friday night. This consisted of a meal and tribute show Firstly the meal was terrible. The steak in the steak pie was hard and dry and the food was cold. Everyone was complaining. We tried to complain to the Manager Laura, however it seemed that she could not get away from our table fast enough. On a brighter note The ABBA tribute band were really fab and had everyone dancing and singing. It’s a great venue and there is was an excellent atmosphere. It’s a shame that the night was ruined by the terrible food. Not sure that I would return or recommend due to the poor food. Sort this out please Tontine management.

I can’t thank the tontine staff enough we had our wedding in the garden room on Saturday the 7th of August and it was the best day and night the staff couldn’t do any more for us they were absolutely brilliant thank you soo much for making our day perfect.

Another fabulous high tea. Fantastic attentive service as always. We are so lucky having such a beautiful establishment on our doorstep. The service is always first class.

Recently went to The Tontine Hotel for a family meal for my daughter's Communion and the food and service was outstanding, everything was spotless, the staff couldn't do enough to help and the beautiful surroundings outside just made our day perfect.

Delicious lunch and fabulous service in beautiful surroundings. Couldn’t ask for anything more. Will be back again soon.

Attended a fab ‘Peaky Blinders’ night, entertainment band was amazing, food was good… But… What happened to the table magician? He was not seen at our table and after speaking to some other tables he was not seen at others too. This is my sons FB account, as I don’t have it.

Very helpful and pleasant staff, wheelchair accessible, relaxed atmosphere in bar area, plenty of food and drink choices, nothing was too much bother, very enjoyable meal and prompt service at very reasonable prices, would highly recommend and definitely will return.

Stayed here for 3 nights with a tour group, fantastic warm welcome, fabulous rooms, gorgeous food. All the staff went over and above which made our stay most enjoyable, wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Very nice rooms and comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet was relatively small but that didn't bother me! There was tea and coffee with biscuits in the rooms as usual here! I liked it very much here.

A nice, clean and friendly. Had one night stay bed and breakfast very good and reasonable price. Had a meal in the downstairs restaurant Eighteen08. As up stairs the staff were very friendly. They also have a function room to cater for your needs.

Many thanks to the managers and staff for their help, patience and kindness for jack and I wedding on Friday 3rd August. The meal was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The whole day went without a hitch and was made easier thanks to the hard work of all the staff again a great wedding day to remember Thank you Tontine.

I organised a surprise afternoon tea for my sister's 50th birthday last Saturday afternoon. I was able to secure the Garden Room as this gave us (26 of us) a a bit more privacy. I opted for the 1808 afternoon tea to be served. It was delicious… the sandwiches freshly made and well filled, lovely scones with cream and jam and the cakes… heavenly! Thanks to Rebecca (Receptionist) and all the staff for their patience and diligence in ensuring that the event was, indeed a surprise and also for putting up with my many questions and requests.

All 5 stars truly deserved for my two night stay for friends wedding venue held there. Outstanding service throughout, faultless, highly recommend.

My family (2 adults & child) staying here because our house has been flooded. The Tontine management and all staff have been amazing and have all bent over backwards to make us feel welcome and at home.

We had a family meal for 11 people in one of the private rooms. Was not impressed at all with the food, the price we paid per head was not worth what we received. We felt we were being rushed by waiting staff who continuiously looked in the door. Would not recommend, felt very let down.

Lunch time menu quite good but dissapointed they were not flexible in swapping veg or potatoes. Reasonable service. Coffee in the bar area much better. Staff warm and accomodating. I have been several times now and bar staff delightful. So gained an extra star for this otherwise it would have been 3 for the restaurant. Very disapointed in the standard of cleaning in the loos. Sink area fine but loos are often not and Ive been quite a few times. Seats are dirty, floors covered in bits of paper and dirt and sanatery bins overflowing not the level you would expect in a high end hotel.

Was there for a funeral, they were helpful and pleasant but did seem quite clean to clear up half eaten food and drinks.

Aside from creepy creaking floor boards the room was wonderful! A beautiful bath (bathtub! ) allowed for comfortable and relaxing showers after work and the comfortable beds (some might find the mattresses a touch too hard) provided for a great nights sleep. The room was quiet and very clean, the hallways and doors could use a fresh layer of paint. Some parts of the hotel feel a little run down, thus only for stars. The restaurant is nice, fairly simple menu with average prices. The bar is quite something, even though it is quite open and lacks a bit of cosiness… But very beautifully made up. Staff were great! Very helpful, very polite, very understanding of the fact I had a really hard time grasping the Scottish accent.

Want to say a huge thank you to all the Tontine staff for myself and Janna's Engagement party on Saturday night. From start to finish it was absolutely perfect. We were allowed in early to get our cake and extra bits and bobs we planned. The hall was absolutely beautiful. The food was delicious and hot. With so much left over the staff boxed it all for us to take home. As I have a severe nut allergy they removed certain drinks including nut ingredients from the bar to allow me a stress free night. Not only that the bar staff helped the older guests from the party back to their table with all of their drinks. They were so friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be working a Saturday night for us. The DJ was outstanding playing a list of varied songs and a few extras… the dance floor was never empty, my grandma being the life and soul of the party. Nothing was an issue for any of the staff. Our night was exceptional and we appreciate absolutely everything they done to make our special night one to remember. We cannot thank you enough for your professionalism and friendliness. Fantastic venue with fantastic staff. Would highly recommend. Thank you all again so very much. Janna and Kathleen.

What a great little hotel, lovely rooms, great food and friendly staff. My only complaint is when I was in the bar/restaurant the staff where emptying bottle bins which was really loud.

Recently catered for my husband's funeral. Very pleased with the service received. Staff friendly and attentive without being intrusive. There are three function rooms available, all of different sizes. The hotel is very popular locally for weddings and other events. Although not obvious from outside there is wheelchair access.

I use this place a lot for work meetings etc and have been there socially a few times. The work they have done during the recent upgrading is lovely. The new restaurant/bar is fantastic and the staff are always friendly and helpful.

Attended a mystic and holistic festival, had a Swedish back massage from serenity holisticks by Jane which was so good I phoned my partner to come in and get one.

Attending Wedding. Drinks where reasonably priced, food was good. Staff where friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb buffet style of cereals, toast, fruit juices, tea/coffee and fried breakfast.

Great night, nice staff, if an issue arose the staff were able to fix it. Overall I really enjoyed my stay.

The reception check in process was seamless and help was offered to carry our luggage to our room. The room was clean, airey and warm, it was spacious with tv, tea making facility and hair drier. The bar area was clean and tidy and prices were reasonable. Although we never got lunch or dinner the food that others had was served quickly with good portion size and little wastage. The breakfast was the only thing that was unnacceptable during our stay with rubber eggs uncooked bacon burnt sausage and potato scones. The black pudding was tasteless as was the mushrooms, the beenz were also dried out due to being overcooked, I did complain at the time and was told new items would be brought through shortly. My wife and I waited a further 15 minutes before we left. Although the hotel was fair I would not recommend staying for breakfast.

Had lunch in the new bar a couple of weeks ago and food and service was excellent and will definitely do that again. Would rate the bar 5 stars. Different experience today.

Lovely welcoming hotel staffed by local people who were all friendly and helpful. Very comfortable, spotlessly clean. Tea, coffee, biscuits in all rooms. Public areas and cocktail lounge beautifully decorated. Central to Greenock which has a great bus service up and down the coast. Will definitely return.

We attended here to celebrate family birthdays. We loved the menu which had enough choices for everyone without needing a week to decide. Mussels starters recommended by our waitress, Nicole, were superb! As were the others enjoyed by family. Our mains, ranged from Scottish tapas, salt n pepper chicken, steak pie, fish n chips, & steaks. Wonderful for all. Steak cooked perfectly medium rare. Wine choice good. Service was fantastic! Great to have service with actual knowledge of the menu items. Not the cheapest night out but worth it for celebration in a quiet environment. Please try this menu!

Fabulous day/night had by all at my sisters wedding on Saturday. Big thank you to all the staff who made this such a perfect day for the happy couple and for all our family and friends. I would highly recommend this venue for any function, if I could I would rate it higher than 5 stars x.

My husband and I had our wedding here at the weekend. We were really impressed with the service we received from start to finish. Very attentive staff, lovely food and reasonably priced.

Staff were amazing constantly moving and being helpful to make sure you have good service. The food was good and fresh and drinks were provided quickly, the hotel and the rooms were spotless and pretty much everything you needed you had or was easy to take care of, my dad who was disabled got a room with a disabled seat in the shower without even asking, that was amazing initiative shown by the staff. Greenock itself has seen better days but it is situated quite centrally in the 'posh end' and is in a very decent area for convenience being only a few minutes walk from town, it's probably the best place to be in Greenock, the area is nice and you don't get the noise at night from pubs and clubs. Rooms were better than basic, everything worked fine the beds were comfortable, the rooms had good showers and everything in the rooms were clean and well looked after.

Attended the Tontine Hotel with work. Its a beautiful place with very spacious rooms. Their food is outstanding and their service is second to none. My only gripe and it is a small one is how cold the main hall was but I'm sure that is easy remedied.

I have visited Greenock on 3 occasions in 2008, 2011 and only a few weeks ago (2015). On each occasion I stayed at the Tontine Hotel on the recommendation of a relative who lives in Canada. My reason for being in Greenock was to do research on my family history in the western lowlands of Scotland. The Tontine Hotel is ideally located for doing family research in the subject area, and only about a 20 minute drive from the Mitchell Library in Glasgow and a 5 minute walk from the James Watt Library in Greenock. On each of my three visits I have stayed for over a week, and I found the staff friendly and incredibly helpful. While the food served in the restaurant (breakfast lunch and dinner) is not classic French or Italian cuisine, it is traditional Scottish, more than adequate and reasonably priced. The top end rooms are great — I have only stayed in them — and do not break the bank. I imagine the experience is like staying at Fawlty Towers, but without Basil. The beds and bathrooms are great, and there is an ample sized desk for working with my computer. It is one of a few hotels I have stayed at where the Wifi internet connection works first time and is reliable. If I go to Greenock again, which I most probably will, I will definitely stay at the Tontine Hotel. I have only fond memories of my stays at this hotel. Mike Veitch Brisbane Australia.

Charming old building in quiet street close to the town centre but the clean, modern en-suite bathrooms are spoiled by an otherwise tired interior. Cheap furnishings including uncomfortable bed (executive room) and poor quality TV. Disappointing buffet breakfast with long-life orange juice and over-brewed coffee. For similar money, the local big chains offer better quality at the expense of character and location.

Very friendly and helpful staff, great location and parking available. Food is ok, rooms could do with touch up in an aesthetic way, other than that they were a nice size and kept clean. Also had to use the bar lounge to access Wi-Fi (which is free).
