Lovely place. Even under Covid restrictions. Good breakfast and fab location, close to amenities. The only drawback is the £10 a day parking charge but we’d still come back.

Went here for my Christmas due. Very nice! Lovely spacious room and friendly staff. Meal was lovely and was able to get gluten free.

It's a nice hotel. BUT AND IT'S A BIG BUT! The drinks are Very expensive a pint and a glass of wine £13.60 2 small bottles of perroni and a glass of wine & over £16.00 that's outrageous!

Attended a christmas party last night, food and disco were excellent. Newly decorated rooms are fabulous and staff were brilliant. A special big shout out to Bob, who saved us this morning when we over slept ensuring we still got a hearty breakfast.

Had a fab time at the loo awards great food lovely surroundings and very friendly and made you feel welcome.

Staff were fantastic… but just not enough of them. Really poor management in getting the right number of staff in when there is a function on. Who ever is making these decisions doesn’t deserve the loyalty from their friendly, hardworking staff.

This has been complely refurbished and the rooms are very good.
The food is well cooked.
Breakfast is very good.
Nice bar area.

We were there today to celebrate my Aunt's 80th birthday with all the family. Food was great the staff were fab.

I had my daughters wedding there in July 2018, the venue hall was so so hot, all the guests started to complain, everyone was literally having a shower in their own sweats, the hotel doesn't have any air conditioning. Cutlery's and crockery's were dirty not ready to use for the next event. The person in charge (duty manager) on the day of the event was rude and not helpful at all. The day let changing room was so hot my daughter was sweating from head to toe in her wedding out fit and about to faint. The Reception was not helpful at all called from the room to sort something out about the heat in the room but did not answer the call so I had to go downstairs to see why no one answering, the receptionist told me they did not get any calls from the room and told me check if the phone line is off the wall. I had to run around to find a fan for my daughter. After 45 minutes later the receptionist called the room to see if everything was okay and why we called. I wouldn't hire this venue again or recommend to anyone. Worst venue ever.

Location is good, rooms are just okay! but staff is not so co-operative. Lacks coordination amongst them. Will have to ask for & do follow-up to get basic services.

Attended this venue, along with several 100 people. Venue was great. Food was acceptable based on the numbers present. Staff were very busy and obviously not enough of them however they were very unfriendly with one in particular extremely rude. We went to the same event last year and would have given it 4 stars.

This has the potential to be a very good hotel but it needs significant investment in the hotel and most importantly the team and service. Rooms were circa 1980, clean but very dated and in need of a 're furb. Cracked sink in the bathroom, hot stuffy bedroom and basic amenities (we paid £120 per night so expected a little more than basic). Hair drier was one of those that mounted on the wall in a 70's bedsit but secreted in a drawer and best left there in my view. It gave th…e power if an elderly gentleman's sigh when fired up to dry my hair. Reception staff checked us in and took half payment by mistake so I had to them go back to pay the rest. While I was there they spoke to another guest about the car parking like she was an idiot and with little patience when the question was a very reasonable query. Conference rooms and reception/coffee area for this was well laid out. All chairs in the conference room were stained and had to be covered over it was so bad. Buffet on day 1 was a sea of cheese and pickle sandwiches — feedback before day 2 meant a revised and slightly improved lunch but still very random. The evening meal was deplorable. Someone also had invited Aunt Bessie who supplied her roast potatoes which were soft and soggy. Presentation was poor, quality not great and service abominable. I almost had to do a rugby catch to get my plate of dinner from the waitress.

This review is for 2 stays recently which haven't been great at all. The first night the room was way too hot and the air con actually blew out hot air and not cold which meant I had to sleep without clothing and didn't sleep much. I thought this might be an isolated incident so didn't want to leave any negative review. I contacted the hotel to let them know and they offered me another stay as I travel to Birmingham for work regularly. They offered a discounted night in a superior room but it was exactly the same. My watch actually had the room temp at 27c which was crazy. I found out from one of the staff that the hotel is due to change name or brand so no repairs or any improvements are to be made to a very dated hotel including the air con so I wouldn't recommend staying here during the summer months. I'll be using another hotel from now on unfortunately.

Room was ok, decor nice but dated. Bed was comfortable, but bedding was cheap and had marks on it. Bathroom lock was broken and hand grip poorly located making the shower end of the bath very cramped. Couldn't even get a nice glass of cold water thanks to the tepid mixer tap. The room was very warm and stuffy, but the old A/C didn't really help as it didn't seem to actually work — could only turn down to 18°C and even then it just blew warm air out. I had a lovely view of a brick wall from my room, but at least opening the window cooled the room down! Restaurant was poorly lit and I had to send my steak back as it was overcooked (medium-well despite me requesting it rare), once replacement arrived it was good. However, considering how quiet the restaurant was (2 other tables, no more than 8 diners total including us) the staff were inattentive and difficult to get hold of. My colleague is diabetic and when asked for diet cola was told they didn't have anything, the only alternatives were tonic water or fizzy water — need to have more options available. Breakfast was ok but not really worth the money (£10 on check in or £15 on the day) — bacon wasn't crispy and swimming in fat, eggs rubbery after sitting under heat lamps, toaster either left bread insipid or charcoal. Bit disappointed overall, considering the 4-star rating I expected better.

Not great customer services. You have to take your own luggage up to your room as there's not enough staff. Rooms are very dated and bathrooms need new fixtures and fittings as they are old and mouldy. Only good thing was the swimming pool hence 2 stars.

Fantastic hotel, the staff were all very pleasant and attentive. Well equipped and laid out conference rooms. Immaculately clean and extremely well presented from the moment you walk in the door. Food and drink were also great with lots of choice would look forward to visiting this place again and recommending to others. A+++

Lovely staff in a beautiful, quiet hotel. Friendly and calm atmosphere with a lovely room service menu if you are willing to pay the £5 extra for the trays to have it delivered. Spacious rooms with a very comfortable and large bathroom, with a bath and shower available, with the whole room cleaned daily. My partner and I had no issues during our stay here, even though there was a wedding over the weekend we stayed it was very quiet and well organised. Thank you very much for your hospitality! :)

A good hotel, close to town, very nice and polite staff, always helpful.
Beds are comfortable and you can sleep very well in it. The heating in my room did not work, but luckily it is not too cold in April and the blankets keep warm. Another point deduction, the cleaners don't really work. Make the bed, do en biscuit and finish. Floor is not sucked, shampoos not replenished.

Great location from junction 5 M42 Solihull with 2min walk across the road for the town centre and 5min from Solihull station. While the hotel benefits from central location it is dated and lacks any comfort and amenities. TV is 12' and only got one channel. Advertising they have a gym but again dated and limited facilities. Would advise if going for breakfast to go early as they are not busy the buffet can tend to sit and look old.

Mid budget hotel, clean and decent sized rooms although a bit dated decor and could probably do with some maintenance in the bathrooms especially. Staff were great and very helpful. Reasonable beer and drink selection. It's quite a hike from some of the rooms (the low numbers) to reception and bar. The room was too warm, it had air con but only went down to 18c, to be honest it was more 22+ so open a window if you're not a lizard.

Hotel with a good maze of hallways until you reach the room. Clean, good breakfast and very quiet.

Avoid at all costs! Awful place with rude staff members. After checking into our room we went to the restaurant to get some dinner. Apart from another 4 people the restaurant was empty. We were greeted by a waiter on his way out who told us to come back in 20mins as the chef was too busy. We asked if we could sit down and get a drink, but his response was “not by me. I am doing room service now” and stormed off. We sat down and were trying to get another waiters attention for at least half an hour but she chose to walk past us on a number of occasions without acknowledging us. We ended up going to the bar ourselves. The rest can only be described as experience from faulty towers — at one point we asked for a vinegar for our chips. It arrived and after couple of minutes it was taken away as “another table had requested it” The circus continued until we finally checked out!

Great hotel. Lovely big rooms clean and with a feeling of grandeur if somewhat faded. The facilities were good. Was here for a conference and enjoyed the food all three days.

Tempus bar and restaurant: Review is about the bar and restaurant. We went there for an afternoon tea. Instead of sitting us in the restaurant we were put in the bar area, the mulled wine was served cold, the waiter showed not interest in taking care of us, the food selection of the afternoon tea was really poor and poorly presented, we had to request ourselves to get the tea that goes with it. Then the waiter switched on the TV (without any customer request) and increase the volume of it quite high to be able to follow the football match that was going on. Not a nice experience, I do not recommend this place. When leaving, waiter completely ignored us, no service at all in this place.

Personally I loved this place. The food is amazing and the staff are really friendly, especially Chris from the gym. The mirror in my room was cracked and the decor is a little dated, plus I was put in an interconnecting room with these women who giggled REALLY LOUDLY all night, but overall it was really comfortable and I was happy with it. Also felt really safe as a woman traveling alone so that is major plus points for me.

My visit to St John's was unexpected due to being stranded in the snow. I can't fault the staff for their help and assistance. The hotel was warm clean and very comfortable. The breakfast was very ample and a good selection of hot and cold food taken in nice surroundings. I was really grateful for all the above and thank the staff.

Stayed here for a week and it was not a brilliant experience. Some of out party were left without hot water for 3 days, items like irons would just disappear half way through the week so when I attempted to iron somthing in the morning I wasn't able to, they'd leave glasses in our rooms even though they were clearly finished with and the rooms are extremely in need of an update. In the bedrooms the wallpaper is peeling in places & heating doesn't always work. I did have a nice experience with the room service, nice food, hot and tastey but I expected better of this hotel. This will be our last visit here.

Nicely situated hotel in Solihull. Well appointed rooms and helpful attentive staff. The hotel provided a very good buffet style lunch in the restaurant. The only detraction was that parking wasn't included in booking price.

Can’t give it a 0 so one it is. Why?, Well we stayed for one night and there was a wedding on right below us with music blaring so loud and into the early hours, despite complaints from my wife nothing was done. In the morning, breakfast was so bad my wife had to use her own porridge and soya milk which the kitchen screwed up. Following complaints we were later given a “discounted upgrade”… well that is a joke… we found cheaper five star hotels… so no actual discount. Manager said that they had they had quoted a rate that we had agreed to and that rate was discounted… no rate had been quoted. All the manager would say was “Well that’s the quote it’s what you pay” (simply put) but the price paid reflected a false discount. He wouldn’t listen to our view and made no effort to rectify any of our complaint other than saying we should have booked it directly through him… well hello, we were talking to him and still he did nothing… except discounted the car park charge, which we had no idea about in the first place… so overall, no actual discount of anything as far as we can see. Unhelpful manager… as managers our selves we know exactly how we would have dealt with that situation and our clients would have been very happy. Our last stay at this hotel and will not recommend to anyone.

The hotel itself was very presentable and very clean in most places. The only problem I had with my experience was the lack of helpfulness from some of the staff. Although there were one or two very nice staff who were polite and courteous. We found that during check-in the receptionists did not tell us or fellow guests basic information like breakfast times, restaurant location or checkout times. Additionally during the function I attended the bar staff were found to be supplying and charging for doubles of drinks which were not asked for and poor time management where there would be 6 bar staff attending one bar and only one in another bar. I hate to be negative because there were some genuinely helpful staff also, but it is the bitter experiences that unfortunately sour the occasions memory.

Very disappointed. We checked in at just after 5pm to be told if we wanted to eat in hotel then we had to be quick as food was finishing at 6pm due to hotel functions that night but could order room service as an option. We tried room service later that evening and there was no answer … we rang 4 times! Door card failed to work and had to walk all the way back to reception to sort out. On day two the bar had not only ran out of jack Daniels but also my alternative drink of shiraz wine. So we took our business else where to a local pub where we purchased food and drink! No air con in room, was so hot we had to open window and put a fan on. Towel rail in bathroom had been pushed through the wall. Won't be coming back in a hurry.

Went to St John's Hotel last night for Christmas celebration. The room was a lovely size with gorgeous table settings. Food was cooked well and full of flavour. Portions were exactly right for a night of dancing. Music was excellent with the dance floor full all night. There were all different eras of dance tracks right back to the 70s but all were selected with dance at the heart. I would recommend this evening out.

We used the leisure center and we had a blast! The pool is warm and clean, showers clean. And if you have a chance to go there in a winter you might enjoy the snowing scenery from the warmth of the Jacuzzi.

The hotel is a decent place to stay. We attended a function with 260 people and the meal served was decent and plentiful. Like a lot of hotels I do have an issue with the exorbitant bar prices but have to as Accept it as they will never change.

Staying for 3 nights B&B. In a superior room which is nice, like a standard room but with a little extra seating area with tow comfy chairs and a table. Breakfast was very good with a nice selection of hot and cold items. Only complaint so far is that the room at breakfast was way too hot.

This hotel has the worst administration I’ve ever come across. First I spent 2.5 hours on the phone to ensure we’d have the same room for our (unavoidable due to a conference organisation) 2 consecutive bookings for one night. When we arrived it still hadn’t been actioned and it took 45 minutes to sort out. Then we were assured the booking which had been made for us included dinner. We told them we didn’t think it did but they were adamant it did. Needless to say a £70 charge appeared on the bill for dinner which we then had another argument about (we would have gone out if we’d known it wasn’t included). The guy in the bar gave us a wine list, we ordered a £4.50 glass of wine from it and were given (and charged for) a £7.50 glass. If none of this was deliberate then they’re the most incompetent bunch of people ever to run a hotel.

Too expensive for the quality level.

Very good atmosphere, it is a very well placed hotel, the hosts and hostesses of hospitable are greeted, smiling, it's very nice.

Very nice high quality hotel with lots of parking available and in a good location. Would definitely recommend if you need to stay in the area as its a nice hotel and is easy to get to. The leisure facilities are also very good and definitely worth leaving some time for.

Very welcoming staff. Room was clean and extremely comfortable with everything I needed. Great location for attending the NEC. Will be staying again.

Great venue for work event. Plenty of space and facilities to easily accommodate our huge needs. Restaurant inside was good with fantastic staff about to help.

My daughter and I used the leisure centre for the first time today on the six weeks summer slimmer offer. Cannot speak highly enough of the whole experience. The center is well equipped and maintained. The staff were helpful, polite and efficient. Especially Laura. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to go again.

We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary as my husband used to live in Solihull before we married 45 years ago! We were thrilled to find a card, chocolates, wine and a banner all wishing us a Happy Anniversary! Thank you so much! The breakfast was superb too! So pleased my husband booked your hotel!

Went there for a wedding and was pleasantly surprised! It's very nice inside, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Not like other places we've had weddings. A genuinely pleasant experience.

Lovely hotel clean, comfortable. Most importantly helpful, approachable staff your staff's were fab. Wi-Fi connection was disappointing. You should definitely do your own family events etc family disco etc. Not just new year.

Very accommodating with friendly and helpful staff giving great customer service. Decor in the accommodation areas clean but getting tired. Junior Suite very spacious but would benefit from air con. Overall good value for money and I would stay here again.

Very accommodating staff reserved us a space next to a plug socket to charge our card overnight as they didn't have any dedicated charging points. Rooms may be a bit dated, but plenty of space in the suite and clean and fresh bedding and towels. Bathrooms could do with a deep clean, but nothing too untoward. For the price, a good place to stay I'd recommend, given the things already mentioned.

Overall a nice hotel, but some rooms still need updating. Food on set menus are a bit boring. Excellent breakfast. Drinks especially wine very expensive.

The hotel is close to the town centre and is in easy walking distance of the shops and railway station. Overall, conference facilities are good with pleasant rooms, plenty of refreshments both in the rooms and during break times. Lunch, however, was disappointing as was the lack of readily available cloakroom facilities for storing luggage etc — we had to ask staff repeatedly before any were provided. The hotel public areas seem to be of a reasonable standard but the toilets near the conference suites are very dated and could use an overhaul. I didn't stay in the hotel so can't comment on the accommodation.

Rooms are a little run down but clean. The Air con was very noisy and the room was very hot, it may be fine in the winter but on a summers day I had a very poor nights sleep. I didn't dine in the restaurant but did try and order room service, no one picked up the phone even after trying several times, I also tried ringing reception and the restaurant but no answer there either so gave up and ate elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The hotel facilities were good, the staff were very accommodating and the beds comfortable. Breakfast was lush. The only gripe was that the bathroom could have been slightly cleaner on arrival.

Excellent nights stay for professional conference. Good hotel, food and service. Will be visiting again soon and looking forward to my return visit.

Was there for a work conference. Facilities for event were good but bedroom and bathroom were a bit shabby. Food was very average and service a bit slow. Whole place could use a freshen up.

Professional meeting. Food lovely, meeting rooms clean and we'll prepared. Plenty of tea and coffee facilities so no queuing. Room for product display. Minor downside was toilets ropey. Need of referb/ repair.

Altogether, the environment and service was rather decent. The staff were helpful enough, but the rooms a little under-maintained. But the decider of it all, is the room you get. And take it from me, it's more comfortable sleeping on the floor than on the beds.

Room needs modernisation, bed not comfy. Cold tap didn't work. Coffee machine quality was very poor and then food was below expected standard.

Nice place, food was good and staff friendly. Rooms comfortable and I had a good nights sleep. Can't give much information about the surrounding area as I didnt leave he hotel, but it's a short walk from Solihull station.

The market was barely ever open and when it was, it was a major disappointment. No water, no useful stuff you may have forgotten. Only sugar sodas and chocolate bars, not even chips or nuts. The internet sucks big time, very slow and constant wireless disconnects no matter how many times I called the help. The pillows in the room were the subject of my colleague and my jokes for a few days. They're like 1 meter thick! You need to be a giant to enjoy sleeping on such huge pillows. They were bigger than my sofa at home. Otherwise, the hotel is decent, good location, staff is nice. The room was clean.

Stayed at The St Johns hotel for a conference. The venue was a little cramped and over heated, but clean and well staffed. The food was good and coffee was available any time. The rooms were standard and the bathroom could have done with updating. Hotel is walking distance too the town centre and bars. Staff were friendly and helpful.
