Lovely service really helpful staff. Room upgrades available upon request. Fantastic room size really quiet and peaceful. Very reasonable prices and directly opposite the train station and bullring shopping centre. Easy access and walking distance to the cube, library, mailbox and brindley place for shopping, eating and going out. It is also above a busy bar called Bacchus which is worth a visit. Would definitely recommend for a weekend trip or stay.

Fabulous service, beautiful hotel. The view was over all the roof and extra system. Room 219, ask for a better view if possible. Breakfast is lovely, full English served at your table and a beautifully presented continental. When my wife came back from shopping the manager came over and said she needed a drink, what could he get her. Old world class.

Beautiful building! Makes you feel quite grand upon entering. Rooms clean, welcoming and tastefully decorated. Food amazing especially breakfast. The only drawback we found was outside noise during the early hours and early morning. Difficult to sleep as it was hot and we needed window open. Inner city hotel tho, noise has to be expected I guess!

Given that it's a 4 star hotel, I'm rather underwhelmed. Sockets not really attached to the wall, tiny and very old fashioned rooms, really nothing special at all. Staff are very friendly, but the hotel is massively overpriced.

The hotel is perfectly located, however you have to walk to it because the road stops about 100 meters from the front door. The New Street train station is across the street (you can't hear the trains), the Bull ring market and shopping center is at the end of the road and there is a Tesco metro grocery store @ 100 meters away. With that said let's talk about the hotel. The pillows are flat, the beds are overly fluffy (messed with my back), no washcloths in the bathroom and you have to use your key card to turn on the electricity. They do have air conditioning in the rooms, nice mini fridge, no self laundry serves, no microwave, and access to ice is at the bar. The breakfast and continental buffet is wonderful and very good. The selection is quite extensive. The Check in and out were very simple. There are a lot of excellent pubs, shopping, and restaurants within minutes from the hotel.

Good meeting rooms and training venue. Helpful and polite staff. Excellent lunch served and nice cakes and coffee.

Lovely location. Staff very friendly and helpful with where we needed to be. Food was excellent including the breakfast. Nice bar area with a reasonable selection of cocktails. The only negative I would say is the bathroom was looking very tired. Bath panel had paint peeling off and grout and sealant mouldy. Great location for the station.

To be a 4 star hotel the attention a bit poor.

Came for a boxing event which was really good. From what I saw of the hotel it was really nice and not shabby. The drink prices are extortionate it cost £18 for a double Gin & Tonic and a pint of Stella.

Attended a group lunch event. Food was fantastic. Unfortunately bar was not staffed all the time. Facilities very good apart from no toilet tissue in the disabled loo on the Horton suite level.

This is a very nice hotel — clean and smart, with exceptionally high quality staff and plenty of small, unnecessary but lovely extras. We had a lovely stay there and will always use it for trips to Birmingham from now on. It's right in the heart of the shopping district, and New Street Station. We were surprised to find such a good hotel at such a reasonable price.

Gorgeous hotel, beautifully furnished, lovely, comfy bed. Went during Christmas Market and had a great view of the market itself. Staff were miserable though… not even a 'good morning' when passing through corridors. Didn't eat at Hotel, so can't comment on food.

Excellent hotel in the heart of Birmingham. Great for a city shopping trip. Loads of restaurants on the doorstep, so didn't use the restaurant there. Staff were a bit miserable at times. No acknowledgment to a 'good morning' from reception staff, just a blank stare… But all in all. Nice place to stay.

We have stayed here previously and always been very happy. This visit surpassed our expectations! We were given one of the spacious newly refurbished rooms which we really enjoyed. We appreciate the still and sparkling water! Our breakfasts were excellent with service to the table. The service throughout the hotel is exceptional. Not intrusive but very attentive. Thanks again! And the hotel is situated in the middle of the city and very close to the station.

Had a great Xmas party here. The food was nice and still hot even though there was 200 people there. Drinks were expensive but middle of town so expected it.

Great location, very plush public spaces. Bedroom is a little small but perfectly comfortable and not wanting anything. I would stay here again.

Noise wise the hotel suffers from its central location… which of course is also in some ways a huge bonus, it is right next to new street station. Some of the plumbing needs updating, my room had a noisy vibration… no alarm required at 6am the pipes did it for me. Breakfast, however, is where it falls down. They take ages… table service only for hot food which they don’t have the staff for… so it is slow and they come across as unprepared and unprofessional which I am sure they are not. The staff are very kind and apologetic… as I say not their fault… I think the management need to review their policy. Good quality when it arrived although too small… they ran out of some items at the buffet… had to ask eventually… and it was delivered… this should not have had to happen… take note management, you do not have enough kitchen and waiting staff to run breakfast the way you do well!

Noisy, unhelpful, very average food. The big front rooms allocated to us overlooked main railway station, so before we unpacked I pointed this out to the concierge. He suggested that it would be OK, give it a go, because other rooms would be noisier! Screeching trams directly in front of the hotel and below our room, station announcements throughout the night followed. We had to move next morning but next room had a plumbing 'whistle' that had to be adjusted the next morning. They knew what it was straight away. Two nights sleep lost. Checking out, they charged us for a breakfast that was before our arrival date. Couldn't un-recommend this place highly enough.

Classy and oldy worldly with a modern twist. The interior reminds me of what the Titanic might have looked like inside. Fantastic.

Attended a conference there. Convenient position very near the main railway station. Lovely building. Spacious and comfortable. Good catering. Pleasant.

Beautiful old hotel, well maintained and conveniently located. I was upgraded, the room was very plush, a bit cold but a lovely facility. Good value and quality in the restaurant is a bonus.

Not been here before and often in Birmimgham for work. Very suprised. Massive room. Classic style with marble and panelling all round. Literally 20 seconds from New Street station. Breakfast isn't a buffet but was good and served in a quiet breakfast room. Will likely be my default hotel in future.

Old school hotel with a lot of character but is still clean and modern. Very spacious rooms and bathrooms. I would recommend not driving here as the car park is a 7 minute walk away which is inconvenient with suitcases.

Very nice hotel that has been renovated over the years so it's still relatively modern whilst maintaining its charm. The rooms were a good size with everything you could need. Parking was offsite and a bit of a walk but otherwise it's a good hotel.

I had a decent day in a comfortable tidy room. The hotel is convenient right outside New Street station. The restaurant was decent enough. Breakfast was waitress or waiter served rather thank self-serve buffet style. The bed was old and soft and probably could do with a mattress replacement. But the staff service throughout was excellent and our conference meeting rooms the following day were acceptable too.

I liked both as a hotel (although I didn't sleep) either as you eat at the restaurant. Great meat steak. Central place and beautiful presence.

Clean hotel, easy to find, standard hotel food, loud music coming from the next door meeting room was distracting to the corporate clients we were presenting to.

A charming and traditional hotel right in the city centre, directly opposite the new street station and with the new metro train running between the two. A big room and bathroom for just me in a twin, with tea and coffee making facilities, free shortbread and still water in the room. Clean quality towels and bedlinen and nice toiletries. The staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming, and the public areas such as the reception, grand looking marble stairs and dining room with twinkling chandeliers were lovely. The negatives… my bathroom glass door had a dirty blackish mark about halfway down that rubs off on my hand. My inner bedroom door had black marks. The dated carpet had marks or dents in a few places. The TV didn't work but a lady from reception did try to fix it. She succeed but then it failed again so I had to keep fiddling with the ariel. My dinner was tasty but my steak was over cooked and not cooked medium rare as requested, and the meal was small. My breakfast I'm glad my work paid for as at 17.50 full price I'd feel it was overpriced for the amount you get. They can't help my sleepless night due to the noise from the trams, but without adequate sound proofing from the outside noise, I barely slept at all. It really won't take much to fix the cleaning of doors and maybe thinking about replacing stained or dented carpets when viable, so not a big thing. They may want to think about menu prices with quality and portions though.

A good hotel right in the heart of Birmingham and very near New Street train station mean this is a great place to stay when visiting Birmingham. It's right in the centre of the shopping area and easy access to everywhere else via public transport.

Well appointed conference room areas. Nothing terribly fancy but a perfect for the event I was attending.

The main bad points: — very cold rooms. The thermostat was on max and the room was still below 18 C. — a lot of noise from pigeons (howling all night long) that it seems have made their home around the hotel. Otherwise friendly staff and nice decor. Excellent location. Have not tried the food.

My initial greeting at the front desk was very short. I was given minimal direction to the conference room I should be going to. Considering I had a large case, it was disappointing to be told where the stairs were with no offer of help or information on the lift access. The conference room was fine, nothing spectacular, but not bad, it did the job. The sandwich lunch was fairly standard. People drilling in the room next door wasn't ideal when we were having a serious discussion. Access to the station was excellent.

My wife and I stayed in the hotel just before Christmas. Its location is perfect, right on the main high street and next to the station. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, the food was very good and would recommend. Our room was on the 4th floor and was very generously sized with a large bathroom. I would say the only critiscms I have is that the decor in our room was slightly dated and could do with a spruce up. And because we drove it was recommended that we parked in the NCD Multi Story (to recieve heavily discounted prices through the hotel). Due to roadworks the carpark was hard to find, the location of the Hotel from it isnt obvious (walk through the station opposite). All in all we had a great time and would definitely stay at the hotel again.

Stayed 1 night. Room was clean but the bathroom ceiling had a lot of water damage and the tiled floor was coming up where the floor was rotting underneath. Have stayed in this hotel a number of times and usually feel I get good value for my money this year my room cost more than usual and was of a poorer standard than usual.

Attended the Burlington as a conference delegate. The rooms were spacious and the food served was excellent — in small bite size pots and pieces. The let down was the temperature, the room was freezing, and despite our asking for this to be altered, we unfortunately had to endure sitting in our coats, gloves and scarves for the day, which was unproductive to say the least.

The food in the steak bar was fantastic a great suprise as I eat in lots of hotels. Staff were friendly and helpful and the bar under the hotel was a complete surprise definitely worth a visit.

Booked for 5 nights in a supposedly executive room arrived late on to find nowhere to put clothes or suitcases living off the floor at present then woke to find I'd slept in a soiled bed and no bins had been emptied. Living like a skip rat at the moment!

Very dated, soulless and tired! Despite being 'upgraded' due to the bathroom not being cleaned the room and general hotel are very out of touch with 2015! The noise from the train station and the high street are the reality of being 'only 2 minutes walk from New Street station'. I travel regularly, around the UK, Europe and further afield, this is my fourth city in 5 days with work and is by far one of the worst.

Welcoming staff. Clean room hot shower, comfortable bed. Gave me an extra blanket in quick time when I asked. Nice breakfast nice victorian interior. Helpful staff.

Limited car park facility available at hotel, required to use a nearby multi-story — but is located 2 min walk from train station. Good City Centre location.

Great stay at this hotel. Nice room, I will be honest that the view was of pipe work etc. BUT you are in a city centre. What do people expect? Fantastic breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

Despite reading some of the poor reviews I'm glad not to have given them any credibility. The reception was excellent. The room equally so.

It is so tired and grim. I am so, so dissapointed. All the reviews on trip advisor are so good so I dont understand what's going on here — did I just get the most horrible room in the building? It's so tacky I don't even want to sleep in the bed. I feel like crying, I could have had a nice room elsewhere for less. Red stains on bed frame, dusty, worn out sofa, tired towels, noise from street singers. Do I need to say more. Dont believe the fancy hotel website or glowing reviews on trip advisor, it's a rat hole. Serious update needed.

Wonderful rooms and genuinely pleasant staff. Best location out of all hotels.

Really quite horrible. This place is close to the station. As a hotel, however, it fails on most fronts. The rooms are small, grubby and fairly unpleasant all round. There was a nasty stain on the carpet. The bar consists of a few seats in a corridor. The restaurant is open to all, so I shall only review breakfast, which was the usual pricey affair but was OK, with plenty of choice. This is an expensive place, and not a steal at even half the price. Only even remotely worth it if circumstance has forced you here, such as my need to catch an early train. Even this shall never be enough to bring me back here. It is a disappointing, slightly depressing place to be.
