Poor response on our booking for the 24th april under robert mccowat got him 2 book it for me as a birthday treat but with lockdown and travelling from Scotland was a no go been fobbed of with all sorts told getting a refund then told there would be option 2 change booking and couldn't will defo not be using this hotel again we come to Newcastle twice a year and there is plenty more hotels 2 pick from.

The shower was good. Lovely and hot. Pillows were a bit low and there was no hook behind th e bathroom door to hang a towel or your clothes on. Otherwise, it was a nice hotel. I would certainly stay here again and I would certainly recommend this hotel to My friends.

Thank you for making me feel so welcome. Mark on reception was awesome and always chatty so thank you so much Jason also was very helpful on Friday and Saturday nights will be back again when coming back up north.

Simple but nice, well decorated and presented and in a wonderful location for seeing central Newcastle.

Cheap, yet appalling. The entrance is round the back. Room was big, but stuffy in the heat and windows were painted shut. The one we could open would do only few inches. Toilet is a mess. Lift permanently out of service. Reception staff is the only good thing going for this hotel.

Rooms were not as they looked in the photos windows wouldn’t stay open rooms were far too hot was quite grubby outside also were people injecting drugs good breakfast tho.

Location was great, size and cleanliness was great for the price, the only issue was the shower didnt work and then we had a hard time removing the plug from the tub.

we stayed here for the Ed sheeran concert… brilliant location. Very clean, yeah a little dated but who ever stays in Newcastle to admire the paintwork of a hotel shouldn't be staying in Newcastle full stop! toiletries tea coffee biscuits all provided in the room… fab!
Women on reception couldn't of been more friendly, told us all the best places to go for cocktails etc. Lovely lady.
Breakfast the next say was lovely.
If you want a 5* hotel this is not for you BUT if you want a comfortable, clean central hotel to everything this is for you!
would defiantly stay here again and will be recommending it.

Very handy for city centre, multi storey car park behind. Pleasant rooms, reasonable price.

Good location. Quite a few stairs here and there. Good bar. Lovely staff. Nice rooms. Deep bath that fills quickly. Hot water any time.

This hotel has loads of potential, shame the owners don't think the same. Listed building in the middle of newcastle, dirty rooms with stains on everything including bath walls windows, every wall had sticky streaks dripping from roof to floor. Ripped carpets, chips out of the bathtub, large rooms with large windows, shame it's over looking a multistorey carpark that people can see straight into, rooms were dark and unwelcoming, decided to go somewhere else. But was a cheap room. If looking for a budget hotel in Newcastle I would recommend sleeperz only a little more money, but worth it.

Lovely little hotel with friendly staff. Clean and tidy … everything u need really for an over night stay. Location superb. Walking distance to the quayside and the town. Train station a 10 min walk. Would Defo stay again, and at £44 saver room with breakfast include that's fantastic.

A pleasant stay. The rooms were very quite despite the amazing location of being in Newcastle city centre. There could be more signage inside, for example, to find the breakfast room.

Great prices at an excelent location close to most Newcastle's important places. Would recommend on a short or long stay.

Location is perfect for match or weekend parties. Central but quiet enough flights you need a lie in. Rooms basic and functional but acceptable in terms of quality and cleanliness. Staff helpful.

Tired hotel in need of some investment. Tattered carpets greet you on the bottom set of stairs and it doesn't improve much. Wi-Fi was intermittent, the TV kept losing the channels, the electrical consumer unit buzzed all the time, the bathroom light buzzed too. It's also in a noisy area exasperated by the single glazing. A poor night sleep all round!

Very central hotel near bars and restaurants Friendly staff and clean The downside was bit dated beds not comfortable and noisy at front (we were told) was ok for a couple of days stay.

The lift doesn't work permanently. There is no Internet access. There is no air-conditioning. And it is a hotel! OMG.

One of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. Is a little bit difficult to find if you aren't familiar with Newcastle. Staff are lovely. And enjoyed my stay there.

Stayed at the Surtees Hotel a while ago and it is a charming place with great rooms, especially the size for a city centre hotel.

I like the Big Room. Staff are friendly and the location of the hotel is very good.

We really enjoyed our night here at surtees hotel staff were friendly room was clean bed was so comfortable and was a nice cosy little room with complimentary tea coffee and hot chocolate with biscuits ready for us for when we got there hotel is perfect place with everything within walking distance would definitely recommend to anyone.

Great hotel. Offers all the basic amenities; continental breakfast, Wi-Fi, fully equipped bathroom and decent beds. Located not far from the main train station makes getting here easy. However, the only complaint is the main entrance isn't on the street, you'll have to walk up a dirty alleyway and it's not really well notice from the street.

Don't know were to start. This hotel is awful. We will be putting in a complaint to the manager. Do not book this hotel! It's a dive for the price of the hotel and the rooms were horrible, smelly and out toilet was disgusting! And were expected to shower in the dark. … Staff were horrible on reception and the bar was meant to be 24hrs but it got closed at 5pm! They had no ice either for drinks. The only nice thing I can say about this experience was the breakfast. It was lovely and the lady was very attentive and honest when serving us. We were a hen party of 15 and paid £130 per room that I wouldn't let a dog sleep in! And the cheek of taking £50 deposit per person was terrible. Would never stay here again or recommend it. Shame on this hotel for robbing us and treating us badly.

My mother and friends, went from Granada to visit that city and they stop at this hotel, the bad treatment, they were 3 nights and 4 days, they did not clean one day, in the sheets there was dirt and remains of nuts of the previous guests, a disaster, very outdated and not recommended to anyone. I put a star because I can not put a 0.

Stayed here last night, lovely hotel, 5mins walk from train station, bars and restaurants all on the door step and a 5 min walk up the hill to the shopping centre, room was lovely, shower was abit temperamental and not very powerful but done the job, bed was comfy enough, as soon as my head hit the pillow I was out cold until 8.30am, we had room 35 and initially was worried that it was right at the back at the train line but the first I heard the train was about 8.30-9am next morning but was fine cause we were just getting up anyway but not sure if it would've woken us up, breakfast was really good, Infact id say it was amazing lol best hangover cure id defo come back to this hotel and I'd defo recommend it for price and location.

The location of the hotel is great, but that is about it. There is no parking, except for paid, our bed was extremely uncomfortable (springs were jabbing into us) and there were extremely bright lights shining directly into the room that the drapes did not block. Other than the location I would not recommend this hotel to anyone… maybe if you get a more expensive room it would be better.

Wish I could post the photos of the rotten window frames and the black mold. (A previous guest has posted the same photos I took) Leaking water marks on the ceiling in several places. Outside entrance from the street looks like homeless people live there. Hotel is behind a loud bar. Entrance mat is not welcoming, dirty, worn, old. Elevator rarely works and is dirty inside and crappy piece of carpeting on the floor. (Doesn't anyone have any cleaning supplies there? ) Someone "jerry-rigged a wooden door to replace the original one it it looks it. This is all before I tried to find my room in the maze of corridors, stairs and doors. Had to ask the clerk to show me to the room. There was no bedside lamp for reading, the window would not stay shut, the sink light did not work, had to unplug either the TV or lamp to plug in computer, chair seat was so dirty I had to put a towel on it, carpet stained and wrinkled. No phone in room for any assistance. Manager not on site, receptionist not interested or could not do anything. Sent 3 emails to their website the first night. Send another the second day when my key did not work in the door after I have climbed 3 flights of stairs (elevator not working again). Bed was not made up on the second day, the duvet was just pulled up. Pillows were flat. Halogen lights on the 24-hour garage glared through the cracks in the curtains. When checking out, receptionist said she had not received any emails. Send another after arriving home.

Great hotel to explore Newcastle, 5mins walk to town centre and the riverside area, hotel is a bit run down but fine for a few nights stay.

Really nice clean room and bathroom, was just what I needed for one night stay whilst in Newcastle for Kings of Leon concert. Only one little complaint that the lift was out of order and having to use the stairs too the top floor.

Only good thing about this place it's breakfast which is cooked really nice, if you get a room on road side ask to be moved can here every noise outside due to single glazing kept me up most of night with drinks walking past arguing. Worst nights sleep ever.

I stayed here with a daily deal voucher and thought it was an *excellent* value for what we paid, but not worth the prices on the website. The hotel staff were super friendly and on their personalities alone I'll recommend this place. They're great with giving directions and making you feel welcome. They said the hotel had recently undergone refurbishments, and while the dining area looked fantastic, our rooms were in good condition but didn't look brand-new, and the hallways seemed very tired and some of the walls were in need of repair. Regardless, the Surtees is about a 10 minute walk from the station (which is great if you ask me! ) and sits right atop a Brew Dog. Which I thought was bloody brilliant because they serve up some of my favourite craft brews.

Friendly staff. Internet was quick. Stairs are a pain and lift is unreliable. 3rd floor was like a sweat box. We were in the top room facing the street but I didn't find the noise over the top. Just small things were a pain like power outlets were in annoying places. Would recommend for younger travellers as it is located right in the pub district. Overall enjoyed our time here.

First impressions. Stair carpet is incredibly stained and smells, asked for one double bed and one single bed in a family room and got 3 single beds, there were cigarette ends littering the outside window ledges, bedroom carpet stained and smelled of tobacco. On the plus side, location was good, staff ok and the bed was clean. You get what you pay for, next time I'll pay a little more to stay somewhere cleaner.
