A lovely hotel with a pretty good gym. As close to the rail station as can be, you are also well located to get into the city centre. Only complaints would be train noise at night, and the heat (we did start during the heat wave though so not really a big fault there! )

Great location and well connected. As such it can be pretty noisy but earplugs are provided. Amazing foyer and nice bar area. Our standard double room was smaller than expected however given the pics on the website, so much so we checked with reception to ensure we hadn't been allocated the 'small double room' instead. Would stay again!

Room my mother was in, very dated and filthy. Carpet and curtains and basically filthy and really in need of updating a bit. The woman who cleaned had a lot of rooms to do alone. There were dried noodles and stuff, in tea kettle. Which is gross. The towels were not fresh. The building is absolutely gorgeous. The lobby and public area had some amazing, original features.

A super hotel in an excellent location. Stylish and elegant and right next to central station it's always worth keeping an eye because good room rates are often available — which is always good to save a few quid on : the rooms are large and very nice, massively recommended oh, free Wi-Fi as well — always a strong plus.

Booking was straight forward. Rooms nice and warm with everything you need and more in it! Ample parking in the station car park costing £8 a day which I think is reasonable!

We love this hotel… centrally located, free parking, leisure centre. Great breakfasts. Came to see Bryan Ferry at the City Hall, which was about a 15 min walk away. Been coming here for a number of years and wouldnt stay anywhere else. Thanks again.

On arriving as it was during the week parking was easy at the front. The reception was spacious and stylish. The receptionist was very helpful. The room was large 2 x double bed 2x shower one in bath. Very clean and comfy complimentary drinks and chocolate as standard 40" flat screen television. Very little noise from street.

Loved this hotel. The room was great as it was a good size and the bathroom was spotless. This is an historic hotel and is well looked after considering. The architecture is typical of victorian times and in its day this was possibly the grandest hotel in Newcastle. The staff were very friendly and the prices at the bar were reasonable. All our requests were catered for. The fitness suite was fantastic! The pool was warm and a reasonable size and a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi are also available for those who wish to use this kind of facility. I would recommend this hotel and will stay again. The only issue was with the noise at night were people returning to their rooms late could be disturbing at times… but otherwise was very satisfied with our stay.

Room situated in centre of hotel with no external windows. There may have been a sun roof window, however, the electric blind did not work and we never saw outside light the durtaion of our stay. The air-conditioner was also out of order. We went to eat at the restaurant/bistro but they were never quite ready. We were twice given a time to comeback but when we did we were again told still not ready. We eventually just went out for food. Amazing building but our room was dark and small.

Great room and service. Have stayed here a couple of times in the past and always enjoyed my stay. Right next to the Central Station and Metro so ideal if you are a train user. When we arrived we were upgraded on our room which was a nice bonus. Reception staff were very polite, professional and helpful.

Really lovely staff and great building in terms of history. The room was ok, shower was great. Its a bit noisy in the room I had towards the back of the hotel as its so close to the train station. It has a warm and friendly feel though and enjoyed the stay. Also had bag drop facility for free which was great on the last day of the trip.

Location is spot on in the middle of Newcastle next to the station. It has around 20 spaces for car parking but is first come first served, if you cannot get a space then you can park in the station but it's around £16 for 24 hours. The hotel has some great character and I must say all the staff we dealt with were top class. They also have a health spa you can use as a guest which has a steam room, sauna, plunge pool, Jacuzzi and swimming pool of good quality. Our room was fine with a large bathroom with shower and bath and twin beds. The only downsides were being woken up at around 5.00 am both days by glasses being collected very noisily outside! The beds were also not the best I have had, and parts of the bathroom were missing e. G. No front on taps in shower, cracking plaster on ceiling. Small things that mean it doesn't get 5 stars from me.

Beautiful, but overpriced and HOT. The room was £123 for a compact double which overlooked the noisy train station and had no air conditioning making it impossible to sleep comfortably. In fact, I got up at around 4am to go and cool down outside. The staff were great and the building itself gorgeous, but wouldn't recommend for a stay. Best go there to use the restaurant; and stay elsewhere.

Stay one night for business, in January single room murky and very small large bathroom very cold (no radiator) Classic Breakfast Only the lobby of the hotel is beautiful.

Hotel is in an outstanding location if arriving by train, perfect for anything you might want to do in Newcastle. Beautiful lobby and nice comfortable rooms of decent size. Make sure to go to the leisure centre as the sauna and steam room are great. Pool was a bit chilly on our visit.

Great location next to railway station with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. The metro arena is only 10minute walk away and city centre shop similar distance. Check in was good, friendly staff and our room was on first floor, this is a traditional old fashioned hotel with modern room. Our room was a double but spacious enough, complimentary drinks and snacks in fridge. Ensuite was a disabled bathroom but modern and very clean. Overall a great hotel in fantastic location, nice room and would definitely stay again, albeit our recent visit was just a short one. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and highly commend the staff for their politeness and helpfulness. I am looking forward to staying again in the future.

Great customer service — we were given a room upgrade at No extra cost. Room was very spacious, clean and modern. No complaints at all. Would return again.

Great hotel, excellent location, staff were very nice and friendly. Room was lovely and well managed. £44 for a Friday night was an absolute steal. Would stay again and highly recommend.

Travelled up from London for the day for my mum's birthday. Had afternoon tea in the Empire restaurant which was lovely. Our server Michael was very kind and really made everything perfect for us :)

Lovely old grand hotel of the Victorian era. Comfortable and clean rooms with complimentary toiletries. Good breakfast. Pleasant surroundings in bar. Only problem was the fact that after my shower the water only only ran at a cool temperature for my husband. And I was not in the shower that long!

It is right next to the train station which includes the Metro for good access to the rest of the city. Room was decent. The breakfast service was good, decent selection.

Great location next to the Newcastle Central train station. The place seems to have been recently refurbished but still maintains its clearly aged character. The staff were excellent and very attentive. The beds were very comfortable and the included Wi-Fi excellent, I was able to use Skype and Netflix without issue. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the attached gym and sauna. Though complimentary it wasn't at all to the same standard as the hotel. There was only one running machine available as the other was out of order and the general condition of the changing rooms was poor.

Stayed here last wknd. We were upgraded to a king room for free. The hotel entrance is beautiful. The rooms are very clean with hairdryer iron and ironing all provided. The hotel is an ideal location. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Beautiful building at a great location. The entrance looks amazing. Rest of the hotel is really old and the room I got was ridiculous. My view out of the window was an ugly damaged stone wall. Room is quite spacious, especially the bathroom but it could use some freshing up. Bed feels also really old.

Attended The Royal Station Hotel for a wedding. Very nice hotel. Staff were very helpful. The drinks however were very pricey. 4/5

Convenient parking right outside the hotel, however arrive early to secure a space as there are only around 5 spaces. The entrance to the hotel is quite grand & appealing. Checking in was a quick easy procedure & I was given the key to my room on the second floor. The hotel's corridors are a little dated but don't allow that to put you off. The room (standard double) was quite large, with a separate large ensuite bathroom. The bed was very big and comfortable, large screen TV + a free minibar which was stocked with bottled water, chocolate bars and orange juice. Also the usual tea/coffee facilities. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was spacious with a bath and overhead shower, the shower was really good. Very powerful. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would stay again.

I've stayed at the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle twice now. It's a great hotel in an ideal location. The rooms are modern and have everything you need. The free minibar is a nice touch, with some essentials. Breakfast is really good too, plenty of choice. I would highly recommend staying here.

It was fine for a stag do, wouldn't bring my wife. They took a deposit of £60 (which was Both annoying and odd for a Hotel) for our room and wouldn't give us it back until the whole group had checked out. We had to leave for a train therefore we didn't get our deposit back from them. They also wouldn't let me have any breakfast as it was after 10 a. M. Even though the buffet was out full of breakfast and nobody was there to eat it. Literally they let food go to waste rather than let a hungry guest eat it! Room was clean though and good location.

This hotel is good, value for money, comes with ensuite room, bar and pool table. Can hire a hall for as less as £50 for a day.

Good location 10 minute taxi from Newcastle centre. Rooms are small, basic and dated. Bit of an old musty smell but generally clean. Staff were helpful. Good breakfast. Acceptable for the cheap price.

A friendly bar with a good atmosphere. Staff and management are incredibly friendly and willing to help in any way they can. A top class pub.

Stopped here 30 years ago and remember it fondly.

We had an awesome stay at the royal, the staff were great very helpful, good bar cheap drinks! we are already thinking about booking again.
