Hostel Alma Hostel

Booked for 2 nights but will only be staying 1. Reasons: (I'll be as positive as I can) On arrival as you walk into the cafe, there is an overwhelming smell of damp. Tried to ignore that, was given the codes for the room/ main door and the lady showed us how it worked on the main door outside — which was nice. The room appeared clean at first — however, it is not great or even good in my humble opinion. Its only fair that I tell you why and you can decide for yourself: 1. There are hairs and specks of whatever all over the room. 2. Damp patches and Water stains on the ceiling and walls. 3. Mould growing all over the bathroom (you can even see it coming from behind the mirror in there). 4. Mould is also around the window which is covered in condensation — even though it was left open all night, and it doesn't close properly anyway, so can be quite noisy too. 5. The TV only works on one channel and you are not given any Wi-Fi codes. 6. The parking is — on the street parking, so there are restrictions. 7. There was a small bug crawling on the bed — possibly a bed bug, but I'm not sure about that! If you have any kind of breathing difficulties like asthma I would suggest that you don't stay as even though I don't normally, I could feel it in my chest, and it was hard to sleep — I only got 3 hours. Cheap but not cheerful for me. Good if that's what you are looking for.

We booked in on a working stay. The place is definitely not a 3 star. The bedding was dirty with loads of hair still in them. We didn't even put our bags down, walked out, lost our booking money and booked somewhere else. God only knows what the food is like there.

Become polite and stick to the terms agreed.

This is by far the worst place I have stayed in, in all my life!
I confirmed with the hostel that my party of 4 would be arriving at the very earliest 11pm on the day of check in and potentially into the early hours in the morning to which they provided me with 2 codes to access the building and the room. We arrived at the hostel after a 7 hour journey from North Wales at 2am. I entered the code to the main building door which allowed us access straight away. We then proceeded to the room to which our access code given to us would not work. After trying various combinations it was evident that it was not going to work. I then tried to call the hostel contact number to which I heard a phone ringing from the floor above. I proceeded to locate the ringing phone which led me to a bedroom door. I knocked on the door to which I very angry man answered to. At first I thought I had woken up a guest but it turns out I did not. This man was the owner. He was extremely rude, shouting in my face asking me what I wanted. After trying to explain to him numerous times that I was needing to gain access to the room I had paid for I was certain he was going to assault me. He smelt of booze and was clearly in no fit state to be running any place of accommodation. Finally he came and opened the room for us after about 10-15 minutes of verbal abuse towards me. The room itself wasn’t bad but smelt terrible.

The landlord smelled of alcohol and was unkempt.
The property was the same.
It was rental, loud, dirty.
There were countless hairs in bed. I assume that it was not freshly sourced.
Even the shower wasn't clean.
The door jammed. Read hard to open and spill only emphatically.
Even with ear ropax, the traffic noise can be clearly heard and this with the window closed.
Absolutely not recommended!

Tiny but comfortable peaceful place to stay abd enjoy the centre of beautiful city and nature around. Thank you.

What a dump! Worst place I have ever stayed at.

Basic but clean and comfortable bed.

Not exactly well maintained accommodation. Hair and mildew in the bathroom and at the shower enclosure. The railing in the hallway is full of sticky and greasy. The pillow had little green spots. In the bath water dripped from the ceiling.

It's a place owned by immigrant for immigrants which is fine but not for everyone.

Like the saying goes… you get what you pay for. Top floor rooms very small. Couldn’t stand up straight in most of the room because of sloping ceiling. If you’re just passing through and need a bed for the night, it’s good enough.

Unfortunately a terrible experience, was informed It was able to book in between 15:00pm until 22:00pm, I arrived there 5 times with no one around to answer the bell, no one in the bar next door either, eventually had to call the number and after 5 minutes a person appeared and just gave me a booklet with the room and security pass numbers… Unfortunately the code could have been written by a kindergarten child with a few braincells… ie room 10 was code 10 room 12 was 12, was not happy leaving my valuables in a room that could be opened by a baby, on the same context, what's the use of the front door security with pass code, when they writ the pass code on a paper and tape it to the door window for anyone to see?

Bargain price but you pay for what you get. Accommidation basic, noisy, clean and comfy bedding, but cramped and could do with a good hoover — grime… Good to crash but not to linger about in.

I'll try to be objective as much as I can in this review. We booked a double room for 1 night and arrived for check in at 21:58. The reception: The man that welcomed us not only that was rude but also scary and potentially drunk. In the booking it says the room is for 'single occupancy' which we didn't read assuming a double bed is for two. He demanded £2.5 for an additional person to stay in the room. As I went across the road to get cash the time went past 22:00, he started to get irritated saying that checkin time had passed. When I brought the 2.5 which he demanded around 5-7 times in 2 minutes he went outside to check the cash so that we don't trick him. As the reception was not lit it felt like a scene from The Shining. The room: The room was small, but fairly clean and had an en suite bathroom as well as a TV (not working). The shower water was cold and pressure was low. All that was acceptable as we went in with low expectations for the price we paid. However the fact that the window wasn't closing properly and the hostel is near a busy road made it hard to sleep. So we had to put two of the pillows in the window. I would agree with a previous review that in winter could be impossible to sleep in that room. Based on the initial greeting from the guy we were so freaked out that we used a small table to block the door just in case.

The rooms basically are ok but lots of things are broken (TV areal/light/bin), the kitchen is tiny and the very basic continental breakfast is served in a smelly café.

It's a good value for money — when you need a roof before heading for early ferrie, but don't want to spend fortune on a bed this is good for you. Just make sure you understand word "hostel" right. It's basically room with en-suite. Not much space there so don't take you luggage with you into room.

Walking distance from waterfront and historical sites as well as a shopping centre (supermarkets). Rooms are basic.

Good experience overall, cheap rooms, decent breakfast but a cold shower. E-mail the owner if you arrive after 10 pm! He will give you a code to enter the building.

No email telling me the door's code. Owner is drunk ignore people. No one answer phone calls. Wait oitside keep knocking on the door for an hour in rain at night. Change another place to stay at the end.

Not in the best condition but ok.

Moderate hotel. Considerably reasonable price. The attic rooms have really low ceilings, but worth it of you want to save an extra buck. Breakfast was not that great, toast and eggs were cold and took a while to serve. Understaffed but the staff are quite accommodating in regards to storing luggage post check out.

Nice compact and secure stop-over for your trip into Europe. Excellent breakfast and comfy orthopedic bed. Conforms to all HSE standards. Save yourself £40-50.
