Great place to stay, 10 mins walk into town. Lovely room and lovely brekkie.

Lovely friendly staff. Our room was big and clean. The lift had broken down and the staff couldn't so enough to help me as I have limited mobility.

Staff lack basic care and communication skills.
On asking English waitress, about the vegetables, I was not told about cauliflower cheese.
I do not eat cheese.
On requesting gammon and pork belly, I was served beef.
On complaining about this, second meal arrived, with cauliflower cheese.
I was told, I should not have requested cauliflower cheese. Foreign manager of restaurant, seems totally clueless, about basic communication skills and requests.
I will not be rushing back there, any time soon.
Very disappointed!

Breakfast is very generous and rooms are perfect!

We 23 ladies only used the Wellington suite for a luncheon buffet. Staff friendly and great choice of buffet dishes. There was also a salad bar. We all enjoyed the meal & service.

Needs an update. Rooms so hot with little ventilation. Fans need to be offered. Staff all excellent as was food for price.

Great hotel, Nice location with friendly and helpful staff. Delcious food and Great wine. Only complaint is that they held a party in the hall and couldn't sleep until it was over.

Well priced rooms, very clean, good condition, tea and coffee complimentary in room and a wonderful breakfast. Only negative would be the lack of air-conditioning and the day of the visit it was sweltering.

We held our Wedding Reception in May 2018 at the Red Lion Hotel and We want to say a HUGE thank you to all the staff who helped made our day special and especially Stacey the Events Coordinator and thank you to the receptionist Emily who went that extra mile for us. Our day couldn't have been more perfect. The Honeymoon suit was more than what we expected. I would definitely recommend the Red Lion Hotel after an amazing service they gave to us.

Nice place to stay. One concern was the automated number plate cameras on the car park. I was dropped off at the hotel by a colleague who then drove home after dropping me off. Neither of us was aware that his number plate had be recorded simply for dropping me off. I had to spend the evening trying to contact him to get his number plate details so it could registered before 10pm otherwise they issue a £60 fine. This is a very unfriendly way in which to treat guests. You would imagine a 10 or 15 min allowance for drop off to be part of the customer service. Otherwise the hotel was Ok, but this initial experience left a bad taste for the rest of the stay.

I liked it. The breakfast was good. Of the disadvantages: no European sockets, soundproofing is not ideal, the password for Wi-Fi should be updated daily, the shower cabin is strange, no air conditioning, do not leave drinking water.

We got married here on 19th May. It was truly exceptional, from the cleaning staff who did a wonderful job, the kitchen staff who prepared exceptional food throughout the day, the waiting staff who were extraordinarily helpful, the receptionists who did sterling work to Stacey who managed our whole wedding. Can’t praise them enough. Thank you so much.

We stayed at the red Lion in Basingstoke for two nights. The rooms are very nice and the staff are so frendly. Breakfast was excellent and the service was great.

If you are looking for a budget hotel at the centre of town, this is the place to be. Staff are friendly and helpful. Ask for rooms on 2nd or 3rd floor as they are refurbished. Avoid level 1 at all costs as amongst other things, decor and furnishing are very tired. All in all a really good place.

Good, friendly service. Not too busy but not empty. Nice heated and covered smoking area.

Great staff Rooms where decent for the price. Breakfast was nice. Only reason for 4 and not 5 was due to the heat in the room that couldn't turn down. Was during the snow and still melting with the window open.

This small but ever so personal venue hosted my wedding only a week ago. Truly outstanding service staff were accommodating and lovely going the extra mile, not to mention the food, both us and our guests enjoyed a lovely meal and commented on the fantastic friendly staff at the red lion, a venue I would wholeheartedly recommend for those that are looking for a personal yet fun venue for their wedding!

Great room, brilliant night's sleep and staff incredibly helpful as always. Meal in the restaurant last night was also exceptional.

Hidden gem. This place is clean, comfortable great staff. Perfect location. Would certainly recommend. And definitely return.

My grandad had his 80th birthday meal here the food was excellent and staff were brillant special with the kids.

Came into the hotel for a couple of drinks and it was very pleasant. Nice modern decor in the bar area. Was a quiet night as well so we were served instantly.

If you are looking for a budget hotel at the centre of town, this is the place to be. Staff are friendly and helpful. I do think it need a full refurbishment though as decor and furnishing all a bit tired. All in all a really good place.

Perfect for a party meal, prompt seeing with NO bugging of the dinners (is tour meal okay every 5 minutes)

Great place, staff excellent. Over the weekend there was a few Christmas parties and the staff coped extremely well with only a few hiccups for us residents. Definitely come back.

Had a Christmas dinner here, was good service but the portion size was small and the roast potatoes unremarkable.

The Red Lion have recently done up their bar and it now has a lovely cosy feel with squishy sofas and a warm atmosphere. Their coffee is wonderful (so is their hot chocolate) and their afternoon tea is fabulous. The best thing about the Red Lion, for me, is their staff — especially their reception staff. Always friendly helpful and polite and you're always assured of a warm welcome.

Nice, Clean and decent size room. Cheerful staff and good breakfast. Lots of Parking spaces and next to the High Street. Close to all the shops and Restaurants.

It was ok. After a very good afternoon tea several weeks ago, this was not great. Wrong service, wrong food, missing items. Good when the staff listen to you.

Hotel itself is in a superb location in the heart of Basingstoke town centre close to the theatres and shopping mall, ample car parking spaces with the staff being very friendly and helpful. Now the hotel itself is in need of some tender loving care in our room the bed was a standard double with aging furniture TV that didn't work properly a toilet cistern when flushed made an annoying buzz for around five minutes after and when we open the curtains there was a brick wall and just up the corridor a bucket catching rainwater but would I stay again yes.

Very good value. All expected amenities, nice breakfast included in room rate.

Went to the hotel to attend a wedding ceremony, friendly service and lovely, simple, clean rooms. The elevator broke down during our stay but the hotel staff were very obliging and helpful to the more elderly members of the group in that case. Great stay throughout, definitely stay again.

Great location, not far from town centre. Lots of parking available. Good service and atmosphere.

Room — okay. Bathroom — okay. GREG the overnight manager — absolutely brilliant. He really made us feel welcome, and was attentive, efficient and professional — with a smattering of charm. I would follow that man into battle.

I thought the Red Lion hotel in Basingstoke was well worth the money, was not too happy with the room no view other than pidgeons on the roof. Very clean and breakfast was excellent, would stay again in a different room x.

So far so good. Great 3 nights!. English charm, traditional English cuisine and of course the classic English amenities in a hotel that's been around for 414 years. A Surprisingly comfortable bed and enough packets of coffee and cookies to help relieve some lingering jet lag. … English breakfast was just how I remember and last nights fish and chips were also up to proper British standards. Nothing fancy, just a simple little hotel doing the best they can in a small town. Just like they have done for 414 years.

RLH hosted our meeting. Central location, friendly staff although they could be on the ball more when it comes to initial booking of meeting rooms. No problems on the day though. Would recommend.

Handy for shipping but not in the centre of town. Ample parking and very helpful staff. Bar and restaurant is nicely decorated and the beer was good. The room was fairly decent, if not a little tired. There was renovation going on during my stay. Breakfast was decent enough.

Went to the comedy night. Brilliantly funny. Drinks are a bit pricey at £4 a pint though. Small venue but fully booked out and well manages. Couldn't get parked in the hotel car park but loads of parking in town only a minute away. Main bar is really nice now that it's been refurbished.

Visited the hotel for Jan Jack's Laughter House. So I've no idea what the rooms / food are like. Parking is excellent and easy though.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to attend the New Years Eve party at The Red Lion hotel. We were both apprehensive as neither of us knew what to expect.
It was like a big family party. We were treated to some great food from canapés followed by fresh salmon, prawns and other seafood delights, every type of cold meat you could think of, jacket spuds, green salad and … a wonderful spread. This was followed by a large choice of sweets including a profiterole mountain. The…n each table received some home made sweet delicacies.
All through out the staff were excellent. We were part of their family or so it seemed.
After the food an excellent disco with a brilliant DJ, helped us to dance and welcome in 2016. A really excellent night made by the management and staff of this lovely Hotel in Basingstoke.

Good location but rooms are very small and bathroom sink has two different taps as UK tradition. Wi-fi is free only in the lobby and in the restaurant.

Hotel is OK, but expensive for what you get.

Best place I've stayed in ages…

We were advised on arrival of a Christmas party and the chance of there being noise until midnight. The room was clean and comfortable and as we were on the 3rd floor there was no disruption from the party for the majority of the evening. The porters on duty were very helpful and provided extra tea and coffee (plus biscuits! ) When some late night party goers decided to be loud and disruptive in the early hours the porter dealt with the situation quickly and quietly. We would definitely stay again.

If you want good quality accommodation at a good price, then I would recommend this Hotel. Staff were polite and helpful, and the room was of a good quality. And a free car park. Excellent value.

Had a great stay at the red lion, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. For a town centre location, I couldnt ask for anything better. Staff helped me find out where places to go were as they were all local. Food was great and at a decent cost too! would definatly recommend.

Staff were lovely but booking a family room was informed "some noise from club next door". Asked "can we sleep with it or not? " told oh yes! In reality staying in a family room on the side of the town centre is pretty much like trying to sleep in the middle of very busy motorway. Screeches, screams thumping music all until 3am. As you are advised "some noise" no real come back. Would not recommend for famlies at all if you want any sleep.

A very dissapointing stay. This hotel looked lovely and had quite good reviews in general that I read over before I booked. We stayed for three days. Day 1: Felt spring in bed and unclean bathroom and had to change rooms and no soya milk and cooked breakfast so oily it provided lip gloss all day! Day 2: Soiled sheets that had not been cleaned so had to ask for clean ones. Day 3: Still no promised soya milk (where is tescos?! ) and nightclub noise keeps you up all night. In general, very poor hygiene and poor service which may be due to them all being so young.
