Poor service, tuna sandwiches served with the vegetarian afternoon tea and sandwiches served in bowls rather than on a cake stand. No explanation given of what the sandwich fillings or cakes were so hoping there was no meat or fish in the other ‘vegetarian’ sandwiches! And rather than have substitute cakes for vegetarians, we just got less cakes! I’m guessing because the mousse etc had gelatine in but there was no alternatives.

We continue to visit this hotel on a number of occasions for personal and professional business. The staff are so very attentive — nothing is ever too much trouble. Lovely General Manager Diane Williamson and great chef too! Highly recommended.

We went for the lunch with Santa and it was wonderful, lovely food, fabulous staff, and a visit from the man himself. Thank you.

The most wonderful stay at Great John Street for my friends wedding. Venue was beautiful & the staff were so thoughtful and friendly and could just not do enough for you. 100% recommend.

What a great place to get married this hotel is, from the moment we arrived we were looked after so well, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, the concierge Steven was amazing what a guy, Adam was in charge of the wedding itself again fantastic and all the staff were great a special mention to Richard on the bar upstairs really friendly guy. The hotel is gorgeous and the food for the wedding delicious as was the breakfast, massive thanks for everything.

Attended a wedding here on sunday, what a FABULOUS hotel, every thing is in the attention to detail, nothing can not be done for you.

Afternoon tea, my daughter took me last week and I loved it my 4 year old granddaughter got her own afternoon tea sandwiches and cakes.

I had the best time here at my wedding! Everything was how we imagined, the staff were extremely professional and attentive and made our day! We can’t thank everyone enough!

We went and celebrated our aunties 100th birthday there and it was fabulous the staff were terrific very friendly and helpful, it use to be an old school house and it has been beautifully fitted out, well worth a visit and definitely not our last

Surposed to be a memorable day and night for my wife. Booking messed up on arrival, upgrade not carried out despite being confirmed, no champagne in room despite being confirmed. Not told at point of booking that there is a wedding on, resulting in loud music past 12:30am so far. Therefore, not a peaceful night. Waste of £400.

One of the best hotels I have stayed in a few years now. Old fashioned hotel with modern amenities. Was a great weekend to spend there. Ideal for couples and great service. Good food and friendly atmosphere. Been there for a team building and stayed over the weekend. The hotel staff and especially the bar staff were awesome. Good breakfast and delicious food overall. I can't forget George one of the bartenders that looked after our team. 5* service he delivered and would deserve an employee of the month recognition. Would definately go back when I will have the chance and highly recommend for someone that would love to stay over weekend in Manchester and have a great opportunity to visit and spend time in the heart of the city.

If you want a trouble free Wedding and to be looked after, this is the place for you. EVERY member of staff so friendly and nothing too much trouble! All pre Wedding meetings and discussions so professional yet personal too. On the day I was dubious as the person dealing with us was off and another young woman took over for the main day. I need not have been nervous as professional and perfect in every way. All food on the big day and breakfasts clearly have quality at the heart of it all and this is so obvious. Just go and visit as you will be blown away by this modern yet Victorian boutique hotel.

This is quite a unique/bespoke hotel that offer something more than just a plain dull room to hold a wedding. Firstly, the wedding was handle brilliantly, great co-ordination and staff could not be more professional, helpful and friendly. The entire day flowed magnificently due to the planning on both parts of the couple being married and the hotel. The food was excellent. All tables served promptly maintaining that everything was hot and fresh. After the wedding the rest of the visit was a pleasure, my past experiences after an event like this haven’t been as welcoming.

Another great hotel to stay in Manchester. Outdoor seats are really excellent and well decorated. The roof top terrace are marvellous which provides you the city's good views. Setting the sun is of the great experience from the roof top. Highly recommend if you looking a great and clean place to stay.

Cannot thank Great John Street Hotel enough for making our wedding day so perfect on Saturday. Nothing was too much trouble for them, the food was amazing and they went the extra mile to ensure everything went perfectly and that all our guests were looked after. A special thank you to Tom, Isabelle and Carol for looking after us this weekend and to Lauren, our Wedding Co-ordinator, who helped us plan the most amazing day — she took care of us from our first appointment all the way through and made us feel truly relaxed and confident the entire time. Great facilities for a wedding reception, shame the disabled toilets were so cramped that I couldn't turn around without hitting a side table with bits and bobs on! Otherwise great indoor and outdoor spaces. Great service too.

Held a last minute training here. There was availability. Reservation process was straight forward. Setup was clean, neat and presentable. Catering menus were great… ranging from healthy to hardy foods. Service was excellent. Technology available. Beautiful facilities. 10 min walk or less to cut centre or £5 uber ride.

I visited with some friends to try their afternoon tea. The food was delicious and the staff were so helpful and attentive. We all had a wonderful time and hope to visit again soon.

Disappointed with having to sit in the bar area for afternoon tea — not very comfortable as the chairs were very low and afternoon tea served on two small tables, staff served us had to read off a piece of paper what we would be served because all the usual staff had gone home. Not much choice in sandwiches — half the sandwiches were the same only difference was that one was on white bread and the other brown. Bar staff were very nice and the cocktails we were served were excellent.

A lovely building with Amazing decor. Our room was fantastic, with the most comfortable bed. There was plenty of tea, coffee and bottles of water for our arrival.
The bathroom was on a mezzanine, complete with a roll top bath, excellent shower and separate w. C. We were provided with robes, slippers, complimentary toiletries and an abundance of fluffy white towels.
The staff were great, and the bar prices were comparable with local bars (situated close to Spinningfields. )
Would love to return for another stay or maybe an afternoon tea.

The timeless class in English, clean and comfortable the rooms and just a marvel.
The hotel is grandiose in every sense of the word and the bar will make you want to stay for hours to sip a drink in love while enjoying a decoration and a relaxing atmosphere.

We attended a work's Christmas event. Whilst the event was pleasant and the staff were incredibly helpful, the venue had our party divided over three rooms which was not conducive to catching up with colleagues old and new. Additionally, some of the table planning was poor with some tables more crowded than others. The fayre on offer was well done and prepared but lacked something. Overall very good, just not excellent.

Attending a wedding and stayed overnight and found it to be fantastic service all round. Staff couldn't have helped more. Bar on the top provided great views across West Manchester from the terrace while the bottom floor bar was a delight with a separate sitting area. Rooms were amazing and usually split across 2 floors with a mezzanine. Comfortable beds and superb bathrooms providing free standing bath and walk in shower. Fantastic hotel, well worth the stay.

Just been for a (very) belated Father’s Day Gentlemans afternoon tea. What a fantastic afternoon. The food, service and atmosphere was faultless. The staff were so lovely, we can’t wait to go back again. 100% recommend Great John Street Hotel.

Attended for cousins wedding. Beautiful boutique hotel. Lovely facilities. Luxurious rooms and very comfortable beds. Good food. Ample selection at breakfast. Enjoyed every minute and would definitely recommend a stay here.

We booked a baby grand room and were swiftly upgraded to a Suite which was fabulous! The mattress is one of the most comfortable I have slept on full stop! Staff are really friendly and hotel nice. We didn't use the roof terrace as there was a private event (Shame). Room service food was lovely and the rose petals, champagne and strawberries on arrival were a lovely touch! Will definitely stay again and indeed want to try King Street Townhouse too.

Visiting hotel for a close Friends wedding. The decor was beautiful throughout the venue. From the main bar area to the roof terrace. Food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and despite a large number of people at the wedding the service at the was quick and efficient. Would definitely recommend visiting and hosting an party at the hotel.

Hotel was nice couldn't fault the service and the room was lovley. Shower was really good. Room service food menu abit small during the night but the sandwiches were nice. Would stay again.

Visited the hotel for a conference. From my experience it seemed like a very nice hotel. Great location nearby the theatre and walking distance to everything you need within the centre. Also, a lovely terrace with a view.

Superb afternoon tea, which was served upstairs, overlooking the roof terrace. All of the staff were very welcoming and accommodating, moving us to the armchairs by the terrace windows, at our request. The sandwiches and cakes were delicious and I'd highly recommend this beautiful hotel if you're looking for a relaxing afternoon tea in the city.

The rooms are lovely, the roof top (playground) was brilliant, lit up heaters and very relaxing. The venue and staff were fantastic. Bar prices were a little expensive.

Excellent hotel. Brilliant service. We had our wedding there in may and it was the best decision we made. All our guests commented job great the food was and the service. Definitely recommend.

Incredible venue and the rooftop venue was spectacular although be prepared to spend through the teeth for drinks as they don't serve pints and bottles where extortionate :S.

Thanks for a pleasant stay at st john Street hotel. We really enjoyed the rooftop bar, although it was noisy at times, we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The rooms were spacious and well decorated. We had a fantastic time, although we would appreciate if there was a wider selection of restaurants within the hotel. This would be a deciding factor as to whether we would consoder rebooking with great john Street hotel. Location is excellent, can't fault it! Location.

Was there as a wedding guest and food was of excellent quality and beautifully presented. Hotel is a little quirky but I liked that. Rooms appear to be all different and our room was great. It had a mezzanine floor with bed on entry level and sofas and TV, shower and loo on mezzanine. Great power shower. We were blessed with the weather and rooftop bar is fantastic with lovely furniture and plenty of atmosphere. The only negative was that there could have been more staff serving at the bar for the evening reception.

We went to great John Street hotel for afternoon tea. We received a very nice welcome and they happily made room for my baby's buggy. There was a choice of tea and hot chocolate or coffee were also available. Afternoon tea was served in a lovely room with a very relaxed atmosphere and the food was great. One of my favourite afternoon tea experiences in Manchester.

Scrumptious Champagne Afternoon Tea What a lovely and unique place to enjoy afternoon tea. If you want a hotel with a difference, a relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and attentive staff then this is the perfect place! One great tip for ordering afternoon tea for a party of two, is to share a male and female afternoon tea. This gives a fantastic balance of savoury and sweet which appeals to any pallette. The male afternoon tea consists of a mixed plate of home made fish and chips/chicken pie/burger/scotch egg and prawn dumpling, followed by brownie, ice cream and cheese and biscuits. This was very different to the traditional afternoon tea and extremely tasty. The female sweet afternoon tea consists of a more traditional range of fingers sandwiches and delicious cakes. The hand made jam that accompanies the cream scone is amazing!

I loved our stay here, simply the best hotel room we've ever had and the service is second to non.

We loved our stay at the Great John Street Hotel! From the room design and decor to the price, everything was terrific. But what stood out above and beyond for us was the fantastic service by their staff. Claire and Jason were especially kind and helpful to us. Claire went out of her way to help my boyfriend print and fax an urgent document. She also treated us to two welcome coffees from their coffee bar before we'd made our final decision to book a stay. She was so kind and generous, we absolutely fell in love with the kindness we received. Before we booked, we were given a wonderful tour of the hotel as well as some historical background on the hotel being a school. The lounging and function rooms are beautifully decorated. If ever we're back in Manchester for a night, we will definitely look forward to returning to the Great John Street Hotel. Oh, and I forgot to mention how much we loved the claw-footed bath tub and over-sized walk-in shower in our room, as well as the classical music quietly piping through our room's sound system as we checked-in.

The headmaster conference room is a great size and the facilities are great. Equipment is supplied, projector, and a comfortable environment to work in. The food is very good and prepared freshly. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

This is a review on the hotel as an event space. I have not been fortunate enough to have stayed here YET! I went to a wedding here which was great. Really good cosy party atmosphere. The band were located on the balcony above us and the main space was used for dancing. Excellent fully stocked bar with plenty of cocktails to choose from.

Only been here for drinks, but great service and wonderfully made cocktails. Great for a nice drink after dinner.

Visited this hotel for a wedding reception in the Rooftop Terrace and Bar. What a fantastic place! With views over the Coronation St Tour, and a quirky but quality ambiance. I would happily recommend this hotel.

I worked for Eclectic Hotels for four years and have to say, I absolutely love them. Every time my parents come and visit, they book a room here — or the Didsbury ones, which are a must too. I can't wait for the new one on King Street to open. Fantastically designed, beautiful rooms, shabby-chic, great cocktails, lovely menu, fab service and they put on a wonderful show if ever you wanted to book an event here. I have definitely got here (or Didsbury House/Eleven Didsbury Park) in mind for a potential wedding venue — just the best.

I came here for their afternoon tea earlier this year after being recommended by a friend. She was right to recommend them because it was absolute perfection. We ate ours on the mezzanine level, seated in big comfy chairs, and could happily have stayed for the entire day. Beautifully presented afternoon tea, with plenty of sandwiches and cakes, the fluffiest scones and tea on tap. Staff are attentive without being intrusive. This would be the ideal place to take your mum for a special treat.
