Review of The Laslett 5*

The welcome was superb, the recepion staff were excelelnt and being shown to the room exceded my expecation. I asked on check in could I leave my suitcase on check out and was told, as I'd expected yes, the in room guest information contradicts this and states there is no luggage store which was quite concerning as I have a day ahead at Olympia I don't want to be trundling around with my carry on. Fortunately I was "permitted" to leave my case. Despite requesting a quiet room, this was without doubt one of the worst nights sleep while staying in a hotel. Each time the room next door closed their door, my headboard shook from the strength/vibrations of the door closer. At 2am staff were using a store room/prep room next to my bedroom and crashing about in there. At 2:45am it sounded like the chairs from the terrace were being scraped across the floor outside for around a half hour, wether it was this or something else I don't know it had the sound of metal scraping against tile. At 6am some other guests returned to their rooms rather noisily, having tiled floors does not aid in difusing any sound. Each time the bathroom is used above me I hear the running water/sewerage down the soil stack. For a recent conversation I had expected so much more with regard to sound insulation and therefore sleep quality. The room is spotless, spacious and very nice but starting a day away after little and very disturbed sleep is the farthest thing from a 5 Star experience.
This aside, at 5 Star, I had expected a turn down service and complimetary water in the room along with a greater selection of teas, better coffee than the instant sachet and at the very least a complimetary biscuit.
The product is not worthy of the rating. I can not reccomend and would certainly never consider a return visit. The hotel had been chosen because it was winner of the 2016 Independant Hotel, next time it will be back to The Sheraton Grand on Park Lane.
