Review of The Z Hotel Shoreditch 4*

This was the most racist hotel staff I have ever encountered. They were rude, inconsiderate, and did not make us feel welcome in their establishment. My manager and I (both black women) stayed 5 days; costing a significant amount of money. During our stay, our room smelled horrible. We complained countless times and never received any accommodation until the day before leaving (we were given air freshener that didn't get rid of the pungent odor). We asked for another room and they didn't move us. Housekeeping waited two days to clean our room after we repeatedly asked them to clean it. When we did ask them for minimal things (like soap, towels, etc) the staff was reluctant and had bad attitudes. Our guests (who were also black) were mistreated by staff. We were also accused of smoking by the manager. We NEVER smoked. Not once. She blamed us for the foul smell of the room, saying it smelled like smoke. The room smelled like decay or fecal matter. There was no chemical or artificial odor coming from our room. Not only did she have zero evidence supporting her claim, we volunteered to let her go through our room and belongings to prove we did not smoke in our room. After realizing we were right, she continued to try to justify her baseless accusations rather than apologizing. Immediately afterward we asked her to leave our room and she belittles us, exclaiming "I am the manager! This is my hotel" and refused to leave until we opened the door for her and repeatedly asked her to exit. We felt threatened and harassed. We spoke to multiple supervisors who were dismissive of our complaints and defended the cruel woman. We received a very insincere apology and zero re-accommodation. This hotel is NOT a safe space for people of color, ESPECIALLY black people. Do not spend your money at this establishment!
