Would like to thank Jamie and his staff for an amazing send off for our Father Henry Hookway. You were so accommodating from the start and the whole event was just what Henry would of liked. In a very emotional time you made everything stress free and we can’t thank you enough. RIP Dad and thank you from the bottom of hearts for your help xxxxx.

Lovely staff, totally dog friendly, Alfie was very contented resting by the fireplace and treated kindly too.

I would happily recommend the Star for food, drink and service. The above are all very good. The staff are very friendly. What I can't recommend is that you stay here. The noise from the bar is extremely loud. So much so that you have zero chance of getting to sleep before the bar is emptied and the staff have finished cleaning away. I have stayed in many pub hotels over the best part of 30 years and have never experienced this level of noise in the room. Very saddened to find this, especially as the charge for the stay is a level that you expect more for. Promised so much but didn't deliver. I can not recommend you stay here, especially as The Star sells itself as a higher end establishment.

Fabulous Inn. Town centre. Very affordable accommodation, food has been excellent so far. Room large, double bed, walk in shower room, warm, comfortable bed.

We had a very enjoyable meal tonight simple but very tasty home cooking. Really friendly staff made us welcome with two dogs in the bar area.

Went to star last night. Definately not what it used to be. Food was good but menu was not anything special. Mainly burgers. Service wasn't very good. Dinner plonked down, no checking we were ok or happy with meal or drinks. Drink overpriced… £9.30 for a glass of wine! such a shame… it used to be so much better.

Great food and beer. Tapas were lovely and so were the muscles. Great lunch with me mum all washed down with a pint of Tribute.

Great food and good beer.
Service was a little slow at the bar, could have done with another member of staff behind there. Four of us ate, all chose burgers which were super! … Would visit again if in the area.

The pub was very quiet. We ordered lasagne from the Specials Board. It was very dry, obviously reheated and the meat tasted odd. We couldn't finish it. We mentioned this to the waitress but there was no further comment from the staff.

Delightfully traditionally old England. Cozy and while fully patronised not a noisy barn. The fare. Delicious and ample. The cost absolutely fair.

Lovely pub the rooms are nice and clean and the staff really nice. Nice food and good choice of beers and wine. Also has a really nice courtyard would stay there again.

Five star roast beef dinner with nice house red and real ale. Very good value. Lots of other menu choices too.

Lovely old pub in this beautiful Cotswold village. Didn't eat here, but food and menu looked good, and the courtyard was a lovely suntrap for a couple of beers of which there was a good selection! Nice internal décor to the pub. Recommended.

Pie night is great. Beer garden out back is a really nice place to be on a sunny day.

Pub and restaurant in Woodstock, Oxford. The pub appears inconspicuous from the main street. It is only when you enter it that its greatness and beauty become visible.
Unfortunately, the service probably didn't have a good day today and appeared grumpy.
The food seems good. The Soap of the Day (Mushroom Soap) wasn't to my liking.

Great pub! It is cozy and small, good service and average price. 15 pounds gets you a delicious meat pie with mushie peas and chips (fries). Guinness is good too!

The location was in the centre of Woodstock. We sat outside in the garden, which was very well kept. The lady working behind the bar was very friendly. Would recommend.

Friendly. Good food and portions. Only one complaint. Wasn't made clear that mushy peas were £2.00 for a thimble full. Surely you could chuck them in, you can buy a bucket full for £ 2.00!

Went for a meal to celebrate an anniversary, we ordered lots of tapas dishes to share-they were delicious. Service was a bit slow though.

I had a mixture of starters : scotch eggs, halloumi — yum yum with chilli jam, my personal favourite! Also calamari, very good and lastly onion rings — don't bother. Staff very attentive.

Good spot to stop off by after a walk with the dog. Can be worth booking in advance for a table during peak times.

Nice friendly popular pub. Had quiz night going while we where there which looked like it was fun but we arrived to late to take part.

Visited on a very busy Boxing Day lunchtime but ervice & ambience were good. Real Ales limited to Charles Wells' portfolio, nothing enterprising available.

We contacted the Star inn several months ago about a wedding that was happening on the 29th Dec and that we would like to come over after the ceremony for some Drinks, we double checked this about a week before the wedding, explaining there would be around 25 of us. When we arrived at the Star there could not have been a more frosty reception! We were told we couldn't sit anywhere in case other customers wanted food. We had to stand outside in freezing temperatures with small children. I have never been made to feel so unwelcome anywhere! Such a shame as the food here is wonderful but the service was plain rude!

Received awful, rude service. We went to the pub for drinks as my friends had gotten engaged walking round Blenheim palace. As we were just drinking not eating we had to keep moving tables and were made to feel very uncomfortable. It ruined a very special day. On leaving a review I then received even ruder unprofessional comments back. I have never received such shocking customer service. I have also called to leave a complaint and spoke to the supervisor and he didn’t even seem bothered. Such upsetting service am lost for words. The “general manager” has been sharing my complaints all over Facebook. The pub and the staff are a joke. Never waste your time going there. Many nicer places to go in Woodstock! Let’s the area down massively.

I visitted this inn as part of an xmas party. I didn't stay in, so my review is about the food and the service provided. The service was quick despite the inn being crowded and having a lot of customers. The food was very tasty and it was looking nice, it came pretty quick, as expected because we had prebooked our dinner. I will definetely visit again to have one of their burgers and cheesecakes.

Wonderful food in a lovely setting. Staff were friendly and a great overall experience.

Great place to stay. Only issue is the stairs up to the rooms which are very steep and narrow winding stairs. Not easy for someone with mobility difficulties. However rooms are fantastic as is food and service.

Lovely pub, fantastic warm atmosphere serving good hearty food. The staff are always very pleasant and polite. The rooms all have their own style and character clean and warm with very comfortable beds however rooms 1 & 2 can be very noisy until the pub closes so if you need a quiet early night try rooms 3 or 4… The breakfast is well cooked and plenty of it setting you up for the day … we will keep coming back!

Be wary of thieves here, I had some of my possessions stolen and staff weren't very bothered.

Fantastic food and friendly staff I have been here a couple of times recently and loved every second. There are so many restaurants in Woodstock and I'm sure the Star Inn isn't normally a first choice option for people. Well it should be! 5

Tradition pub, the food and drink sampled were very nice and the courtyard beer garden was a must for a gloriously hot day.

Excellent food in a relaxing environment. Given the sunshine we were able to sit in the garden with the dog and enjoy food. The scotch egg was a particular high point.

The Star is a very pleasant pub in a great location on the Market Square. The staff are friendly and there is a decent selection of ales. However, the food could be better for the price.

Just got back home after really enjoying a 4 night stay at the inn. Was booked months ago, as they have only 4 rooms, and liked the look of the place, price was good, and the good reviews it had. We stayed in room 4, and was more than adequate, large enough for us, comfy, and quiet enough to sleep with the window open. Good range of toiletries in the bathroom, tea and coffee in room, decent freeview tele (not used much) … The whole 4 nights there were excellent, ate at the pub for 3 of the nights and all the meals were excellent, best fish and chips we have had for a long time, the ribs were massive, and the pies were awesome… Not a Massive range of choices on the menu, (to what we are used to up north), but that goes for all the pubs in the village. The breakfasts were very good too, cooked to our liking… Nice range of beers and wines, lots consumed!. Has a lovely patio garden out the back, and luckily it was warm enough to sit out in the evening, or at the tables at the front, and watch village life as it happened. It is only 2 mins walk to the gates of Blenheim house, or to the bus stop for regular bus to Oxford.

An absolute all rounder for us! Great choice of seating (smoking allowed in the garden/dining area — huge tick! ) Great choice of Beers, which you can taste before you buy, and friendly smiling staff! Finally, and most importantly, food. The very best ever pub fish & chips, with gorgeous homemade tartare sauce, that I have experienced. The Sunday Roast was very tasty and a 'plentiful' portion! Highly recommend. Ps — can you please takeover The Bell in Aston Clinton!? :) ) )

Really good Sunday lunch, lovely beef, vegetables and awesome Yorkie and gravy. An excellent choice of drinks, good service and staff. Lovely outdoor courtyard for summer drinks.

Recommended by a friend who knows the owners. I included this as part of my husband's Christmas present. We were both really impressed! Great sized portions and quality service. My husband has even declared it his new favourite place to eat!

Popped into The Star Inn on a recent trip to Blenheim Palace to have some lunch. Food was good, with hearty portions and friendly service, albeit a fairly expensive meal (although when compared to other local establishments was not the most expensive venue by far).

Delightful pub with a great choice of food, reasonably priced, friendly service, and really tasty chow. My favourite eatery/pubbery in Woodstock. Well worth a visit.

Best place at the moment in Woodstock as pub food. The British tapas though a good idea were really just starters renamed for marketability. Fish and chips was one of the best with real ale fish batter and not soaking in an oil bath in your plate. Nice for the warmer and sunnier months in the back garden that is one of the best setups for Woodstock.

Good beer good food but expensive for the portions.

Good beer and excellent food. We sat in the courtyard at the back of the pub/restaurant which is very pleasant. All the food was great, good servings and very tasty. I enjoyed the nut roast. They do an English tapas:small interesting dishes to mix and match or share. Puddings were very good too, we had the brownies and the banana cheesecake and would recommend both. Polite and friendly staff and considering it was a busy Sunday afternoon, quick service too. We will be visiting again asap.

Came upon the place by accident, just walking past at lunchtime and noticed it was practically full, which is always a good recommendation — so we booked for an evening meal for our group of 4. Very tasty food from an interesting menu, at a reasonable price. Excellent service, quick, friendly and very professional. Nice decor.

Had Sunday lunch at the Star Inn. There were 7 adults and 3, 1year old babies. The staff seemed completely unfazed and were extremely helpful. The food was excellent. We will certainly be returning.

Probably the best chicken burger I ever have. As always in Europe service has room for improvement.
