The night manager on December 13 2019 was extremely rude to me for absolutely no reason. I returned at 8 pm on Friday evening and was told I wasn't staying here in room 29 which I had paid for, he said " your not staying here " in a very aggressive and rude manor. He hadn't even asked who I was he just felt it was acceptable to talk to me this way. The lady that was there during the day was lovely the food was good and no further problems until the same man returned on Saturday evening and seemed to have an attitude again, looking down his nose at people and even went as far as putting his hands on a young teenager outside and causing a scene. I can only suggest that his position be re-considered as he is only making your establishment look like a joke run by an overly aggressive person who also smelt quite strongly of alcohol. I was very unhappy with the treatment and I would hope that something is done about this as it is unacceptable.

Stayed for 2 nights. Management staff were very helpful and understanding. Overall clean hotel to stay in a good location near the beach. Rooms were specioues but there was a limit on the number of wall plugs. Bathrooms were to a reasonable standard but the water flow was found to be sub standard.

20th Aug had takeaway today 30th ate in and the staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful. Fish was locally sourced, fresh and so crispy. *Warning* portions are plentiful. Loved the ambiance of J Mac's ❤

The staff here are very warm and friendly, what's more they serve a good breakfast you don't leave the hotel hungry. The rooms are clean and tidy with comfy beds for a good night's sleep. This hotel is my first choice when I visit Clacton on sea.

We have just finished our 2 night stay here and we have had a brilliant stay. The place is very clean the staff are very friendly (especially lady who does breakfasts) the location is perfect. The breakfast is absolutely delicious and will accommodate any requests you have (even made john a bacon sarnie to take away after a heavy night) will defo be returning. Best fish and chip shop around. They cooked me grilled fish saved on a large salad boy was it Good. Husband of course a had battered cod and chips woofed down in no time very happy face at the end of it.

Johnny Mac is the doyen of fish and chips. He ensures every serving is crafted for the customer and never fails to produce good, wholesome food. The restaurant has a great ambience set off by good service and fun graffiti. Enjoy.

Nice Fish & Chips here & cooked fresh while you Wait. Also very clean inside the Restaraunt. You can watch the world cup here while tucking into your meal. Good portions plus there are other dishes on the menu here. If you order large then be prepared… it is large.

Our 1st visit with friends who have been several times. Excellent food freshly cooked friendly staff. Can't wait for our next visit to Clacton to visit again.

50th Birthday Party. Food was great and staff were lovely. Fish restaurant next door was great too.

Johnny Mac's is a must visit if you like Fish & Chips. Great food, great people, reasonably priced. Right on the seafront.

The fish was cooked to perfection, staff are friendly and very helpful. The room was bright airy and although has only two stars, well worth staying in.

Stayed here one weekend with my partner just as a quick break. Room was clean and sea view was beautiful, staff were polite and location was brilliant. I would come back to this hotel if visiting Clacton again!

Beyond a shadow of a doubt this is the best fish and chips I've ever tasted in my life! Very generous portions, cooked to perfection and a very clean establishment. If you visit clacton on sea your trip is not complete until you try these fish and chips.

The best fish and chips we've ever had (tried the cod, eel and haddock). Also the curry sauce was fantastic. Staff are really friendly too. Would definitely recommend.

Great front of house service. I had the good old English favourite with Cod and Chips. Chips were very good and the Cod was 4 out of 5 as it was just a little too greasy. Overall though, I highly recommend trying Johnny Macs.

Food isn't great at all, not sure what oil they use down there on the coast but they should stop. The prices are more expensive then London! Chips were greasey felt sick after. Won't be going there again. Oh and that's a chicken burger.

Best fish and chips I've ever tasted, Chips not greasy and the fish melted in your mouth. I will definitely be coming back.

Catered for our club Christmas meal and did so handsomely! Very friendly and great food!

The cod and chips were good with crispy batter and succulent fish. The burgers and nuggets on the other hand were low quality cheap processed examples and the children didn't eat them. Tried one myself and have to agree. Although not necessarily good parental advise if you want a burger or nuggets walk to McDonald's and save some money.

We had fish and chips for lunch. Great food and service. I would highly recommend!

We are spending two nights here our first night horrendous journey from Devon rain sleet and hold up's. The room is clean and pleasent big room and en suite. Warm welcome at reception and in the bar. We ate at the Fish Restaurant and were supprised by the amount of food with medium Haddock and chips side salad quickly served and nice and hot, Staff couldn't do enough. Here for another night Friday would recommend a stay here sea right across the road so even this time of year stunning views …

A great place to stay. One star dropped for awful Wi-Fi and needing to park on the street.

Due to previous mixed reviews, had almost cancelled. So glad we didnt. On arrival we were met with a warm welcome, shown to our room which was on the small side but fine, during payment were asked if we would like a sea view. So were upgraded free of charge, lovely room with sea views. Breakfast very nice, room comfortable and warm, staff very attentative. Would stay again without hesitation if in area.

In the middle of refurbishment by new owners. Room clean and comfortable but needs updating (which is under way). Staff friendly. Very quiet considering we were right on the front. Wonderful view of sea and pier. Breakfast very good. Look forward to returning when works are completed.

Basic 2 star hotel, staff were friendly enough my room was clean and so was the rest of the hotel, Very good breakfast, its not perfect and small items in the room need to be addressed but you get what you pay and it was a pleasant stay so I would come back.

Firstly we would like to say a very big thank you to Bobby and his lovely family that helped so much toward our wedding reception that was held on the 2nd September 2017. Very friendly, helpful in every way you can think of they even all helped with clearing the hall for us. If anyone is thinking of having there reception or birthday or any other event please go and see bobby before going anywhere else. My husband and I could not fault this anyway what so ever. Big thumbs up from is both you was all amazing. Will pop in to see you when back off honeymoon xx.

Vile. Rat infested, very rude manager. Was woken by staff chopping rats head off they then left it to bleed out and didn't apologize. Ladies at the desk are lovely and graffeati staff were nice but after discovering the hotel had rats I will not return until they prove their hygiene rating. No fire alarms (they were disconnected with wires hanging out and switched off at the main circuit. Our light wasn't earthed and didnt have a cover on it making it very easy to get a hold of and almost got electrocuted multiple times, manager is just a bully. Picks on small things no problem raising his voice and being extremely rude to people treats his guests as if they're misbehaving children and is in general not very accommodating many guests have told me they leave early because of him. He's very rude and disrespectful to his staff aswell. Out first room had ants everywhere, broken windows, no heating, only window that opened smelt like potent sewage and was right next to the kitchen so was constantly woken up by them, as we woke up due to the kitchen noise (not only that but the noisy doorbell for the back door and bin outside our window) there was ants all over our wall, babys milk and bedding. Kitchen staff would lean on our window to smoke and talk amongst themselves with no respect for us. Our baby had to wear a long vest, sleepsuit, sleeping bag and two blankets due to huge holes in the window (that you cant see out of) the walls also had an abundance of mold and damp.

The hotel is very basic, but the room was clean and the parking at the rear of the hotel is very handy.

Graffiti restaurant was fantastic change to the norm for your Sunday Carvery going all American.

Firstly, the positives, considering the cost the room we were allocated was clean and very good value. The en suite bathroom (which looked quite new) was also clean and roomy. A good full English breakfast was served in the "American Diner" which was also very good. The main negative aspect of this visit was the fact there was little or no heating which thoroughly spoilt the visit as it was a ver cold night in November. The radiator in our room was quite warm upon arrival but nowhere near sufficient to heat the room, but by morning all heat had dissipated and the room just got colder and colder. Unfortunately could not make use of the facilities in the bathroom as there was no heating in there at all. This is a large hotel to heat, I understand that, but this is an issue that has been mentioned in reviews in the past and clearly has not been addressed, such a shame.

Very clean hotel, staff polite and helpful, food very nice, the only downside was the heating was turned off before midnight, and my bedroom was very cold, there were no extra blankets in the room, and no alternative heater, and I'd recommend they provide butter with their toast at breakfast, which was absolutely delicious and they even made proper strong filter coffee, and not instant and real orange juice, not dilute. If only my room had been warm, I'd have given 5 stars.

We so happened to if made a mistake with the booking and booked it in the wrong day. We asked the women if we could exchange it for the same room just on the right day she said yes. Then a man working there turns up and says that you cannot stay in that room and you would have to go in the premier room which would add an additional £90. We ended up walking away without a stay at the hotel.

Came here short notice and the staff were very accommodating and very friendly the room was nice the breakfast was lovely and the restaurant attached called graffeati was also very nice and the staff was lovely especially Tracy the head chef/owner of the restaurant… Would definitely recommend to friends and we will definitely be coming back…

The Hotel was good. Everthing was well done. Staff were friendly and helpfull. I had no problems with anything in the room was clean and tidy nicely layed out. Tea, kettle and coffee were in the room and a special plug was needed and was got for us. The Breakfast was cooked well and very filling. The Hotel was two minuets from the centre and the pier! Great! The hotel needed new glass in the windows as not to clear but not a complaint! I would deffinatly go there and stay there again. Liked the Place and Clacton a great weekend. Thankyou. ☺

Disgustingly filthy. I stayed about 30 minutes and never went back. If you have children and have planned a stay here, please please please double check windows. My 15 month old son could reach and open them with ease. They open wide and the room was upstairs on the first floor. Further to this, my daughters stained Z bed was placed under the short window hiding the mould, which made falling out of the window more of a possibility for my son. Saying this though, I know some of their rooms have been renovated (although I did not get to see any), so maybe not all rooms the same… Would of given 0 Stars if I could.

The whole room was dirty even the babies travel cot that they supplied. The woman on reception didn't smile once. Young kids congergated in a room on lower floor smoking funny smelling fags and swearing. I wouldn't leave my dog in there. Mould everywhere! Doors lock at 11 pm so u can't escape the torture!

Single room? No kidding. Bathroom even smaller with a high shelf to put my toiletries. Not even a hand towel! The bed dips in middle. And they're metal bars.

Absolutely dreadful. We booked a room here because we were in the town and needed somewhere to stay. I would rather have slept in the car! The "hotel" is extremely dated. The bathroom was not clean, there was mould around the bath sealant and the shower curtain had mildew. I wonder if the owners would have been happy to have used the bathroom. Perhaps they would have been, but in a modern day hotel there's no excuse for it. They wanted to charge us £75 for the priviledge too. We sat on the creaky bed, almost had to force open the door to the balcony, read the information leaflet that told us in big red letters that if we wanted a Wi-Fi connection we would have to pay extra. Really? In 2011? Get real! I promptly marched downstairs and demanded my money back. The owners, who reminded me of Basil and Sybil Fawlty, wanted to know the reason. They only need to find the website for the Hamilton Guesthouse in Southend, beautiful rooms and £15 per night cheaper! Don't under any circumstances stay here, it really is bad. Stay in the car instead, it's cheaper and cleaner.
