I can’t comment on the food as only went for a drink to see if I’d like it as my local, and I liked it. Customers on the next table had food, and judging by their empty plates I’m guessing it was good. We are going for Christmas Day lunch so I’m looking forward to it!

Me and my mum came here today for a breakfast, the bartender was very polite and friendly, atmosphere is nice and cosy and food was lovely. We have booked a Christmas dinner here which we are looking forward to.

Wonderful service and the food was amazing.

Very, very dog & people friendly! We turned up with 5 dogs and no-one batted an eyelid. We were all made welcome — the human food was great and the dogs got a treat from the jar on the bar. Would highly recommend.

We stayed at the pub for our daughters graduation. We cannot fault it at all lovely rooms nice and friendly staff. We will definitely be back x.

Really friendly staff… drinks are a little cheaper than barbican pubs… spent new year here a few years ago and had a great time.

The check out was not confirmed by the hotel, which we thought we were staying till Monday. Instead whilst out on our trip the hotel had threw all our belongings into bags including some sentimental earrings. It wasn’t a pleasant experience to walk into your hotel room to see everything gone. Our trip that was meant to be a relaxing time away after having a hysterectomy, ended in a tearful, emotional and awful experience. No communication between staff members.

Great location on the Hoe. Landlord was very friendly, gave warm welcome and show us to our rooms-even called to tell us we had left something in room. Room 1 on the front in great with its balcony and big (but a little noisy), room 3 to the rear is smaller but quieter. Great beer in pub that can be taken to rooms. Being above a pub and in a city, you should expect a little noise, but other than that, was great.

Nice place, worth noting this is a sports pub. Acceptable rooms, they lack small finishing touches but are not expensive.

Overnight facilities were average. Pub was lovely, however the food was awful! I had a mushroom risotto that had clearly been kept warm for a few hours or had be reheated as the rice had gone to complete mush. Wouldnt have fed it to my dog.

They are brilliant, they do child's meals that are big enough for adults. The appetizer is big enough for 2. It's doggie friendly and I can't fault them. We would have loved to have a pudding we had no room for it.

I was in there earlier today with my elderly German Shepherd. The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. The roast beef lunch was top notch in taste and quantity. Can't recommend this pub highly enough.

I've walked past it dozens of times but this was my first venture in. Lovely decor with touches of humour and surprisingly spacious inside. Really friendly staff. Great menu with the option to have smaller portions. Brilliant! My gammon at under a fiver was delicious and just enough. Good choice at the bar and sport on TV in the snug if wanted. A great find and we will be going again.

Recently visited here for a meal and a drink after working in the area. The service was excellent although the portion sizes or the meals were small (this is a general consensus from myself and 3 other work colleagues). Overall though there was a good atmosphere especially for a mid week night and would definitely recommend it.

Lovely pub with great owners and great selection of drinks. Food is really yammy, dog friendly and a nice vibe Mon-Sun. The staff is extremely friendly and chatty, Jade is a star!

Had a beautiful roast dinner on Sunday. Roast potatoes were the best I've ever had and the homemade gravy was delicious.

A lovely little pub & accommodation lovely for the price that was paid… great value for money. Parking a nuisance but if you find a space it's £2 over night from 6pm through to 8am in the morning but beware between 8am & 10am as you need to add another ticket or ring a number them you can request a voucher from the pub from 10am which covers you till 10pm for £5. We unfortunately didn't know until it was too late so spent a fortune on parking as we were there all day doing Christmas shopping. The pub itself is lovely & friendly staff. Will definitely use again.

Stayed here for 2 nights really good location at the seafront room was clean and warm all facilities were their that were needed staff ere really nice and helpful had breakfast this morning which was excellent recommend this pub good value for money.

Fantastic, really couldn't fault the place (well, except the Beer Garden which is a work in progress! ). Salt and Pepper Squid as a starter was quite possibly the best I have ever had. CAMRA pub, therefore excellent beer, great food, fantastic service and good atmosphere and to top it all B&B rooms for £50-£60 per night.

Great location and nice atmosphere. Rooms were clean, bathroom nice if little small though. Would go back again as good value for money and friendly staff.

Location is good but parking could be pain because of the location, our room was very noisy because of the pub beeing below, breakfast is too expensive what it was, the rest of the food menu not worth for price you pay unfortunatly… in other hand very nice staff and dogs are welcomed.

Stayed here recently, large King room with balcony. Very friendly staff great prices and perfect location. And best of all a pub under the accommodation. Roll on my next visit to Plymouth.

Basic accommodation but great prices and location. An old fashioned pub style not spoiled by being part of a chain. Friendly staff and a proper breakfast.

Made to feel very welcome, everyone was really friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. Relaxed atmosphere, great selection of drinks. The room was just what we wanted and the price was good. Great shower too! You didn't have to go through the pub to get to your room either which can be a plus for some people. Breakfast was really nice, attention. To detail with the presentation of it, great selection of teas. We will be going back!

The pub had a nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly. The food (I had breaded squid and roast beef) was tasty and the portions were spot on. Possibly a bit pricey but overall an enjoyable Sunday lunch.

The new owners have done an excellent job at revitalising the pub on the hoe! They do lots of good beers and cider, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere was really good after my graduation!

After a previous visit to this pub when we sat outside talking to a member of staff & enjoyed a really pleasant evening my Sister & I decided we would visit again for a meal taking a friend with us. We were taken to our table, which was sticky & dirty & would have benefited from a table cloth thrown over it, then given a limited choice menu, the other two ordered fish & chips but I wanted the swordfish steak. I ordered at the bar but was not confident that the bar girl understood what I was asking for so I pointed it out on the menu (she was foreign) After a lot of head nodding I thought she'd got it. Our meals arrived. 3 plates of fish & chips! Not knowing how they serve swordfish I decided to accept what was in front of me & not Co Plain after ten minutes the waitress arrived with another plate, 'fish of the day' meal, I explained that neither meal was what I ordered but said I would prefer the fish of the day so she removed the fish & chips. Did I enjoy it,? NO! Are we going back? NOT a chance! Pleasant bar staff, shame about the pub & the fact that they employ some staff that do not understand spoken or written English!

Awful. My pint of IPA had a terrible smell off it so I returned it at the bar. The manager was great and replaced it. A local then said to a barmaid, 'it just keeps happening doesn't it' whilst looking at me and her. Clearly it's not the first time. We ordered two steak pies, the worst I've ever had, I can't believe I paid £12 each for them. They were not cooked fresh but simply re-heated, we couldn't eat much of the meat as it was not warm. The carrots and chips were not much better. This is a bad yet expensive introduction to Devon.

Lovely wooden beamed pub with a a fantastic atmosphere. Good prices. Good range of beer and drinks. First time I've been there and loved it. Will be going again very soon.

Place is nice and quiet, a pub with a family vibe to it. Food is terrible! Had a 'chef special' (cajun salmon) salmon was overcooked, on top of overcooked/dry beans with no sauce, together with average chips. Avoid eating here! (size was small too! ). Complained about this after writing the review, got the money reimbursed and they were positive for making it better in the future. They earned one star right there.
