Had a really lovely afternoon tea we would recommend it for the food and lovely grounds.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. Everything from the location to the atmosphere to the friendly staff. The hotel is located in a quiet area out the way. The atmosphere was just amazing and everything was laid out perfectly. Everything had it’s own space, and there are nice grounds to look out into while having breakfast and a nice dining room for when eating a meal. We would definitely for sure go back there should we have another holiday in that region of the country.

Stayed here for 3 day’s in room 2. Four poster bed. Lovely big rooms and bathroom. Proper windows you can open for fresh air!
Staff were all lovely and very accommodating.
Funny hotel reminded us of faulty towers. But has an old world charm that you would love.
Definitely would come back.
Only issue we had is who ever risk assessed the situation for breakfast time had really made wrong decisions. Too many staff constantly at ur table making a lot of rushed mistakes trying to table serve a buffet with the chef serving with no mask leaning over guests at their tables squirting ketchup!
Only need the server if buffet!
Keep staff to the minimal. Let one family up to get served at a time.
Caos at breakfast.
Hopefully better when things are safe.

The Gipsy Hill Hotel helped to arrange and hosted my 50th birthday party on 25 January 2020. Nothing was too much trouble, the buffet was amazing, as was the breakfast buffet the next morning, and the staff were friendly, helpful and hard workers. There were about 65 guests so the two ladies behind the bar were kept on their toes all night!. About 8 couples and a couple of singles stayed the night. They all said their rooms were really nice. I think we had the best room, a lovely 4 poster bed, huge bedroom and nice en-suite. I would definitely recommend as a party venue.

Attending a business meeting so no real experience of the hotel. Lunch time sandwiches very good and plenty of tea and coffee. Good venue with plenty of parking.

What a Lovely Hotel, Great Room, Comfortable Bed, powerful and invigorating shower. Great Staff and Service and Excellent Food.

I actually really enjoyed my time there. Yes its a little tired looking but everything else makes up for that. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they are lovely, the food is seriously lush, the terrace and gardem to die for. Would I return? Yes, yes and yes again. Thank you so much.

Really liked it. A bit old fashioned but has a charm about it that you don't get in the likes of your modern hotels where all the rooms are identical. Nice staff too, has a family run feel to it.

Very dated, service not exactly brilliant. Decent food. If you’ve ever seen Fawlty Towers then you’ve a good idea what this place is like.

Sadly this would only be a 1 star on AA rating of guest houses. It could easy be a 4star if the owner took pride in the place and got annually deep cleaned. As it happened the room 4 I stayed in stunk of damp. Didn't want to put my suitcase on the floor as it was filthy as none of the hundreds of spills had been cleaned up. The linen and the bath were very clean otherwise would have left. The shower head and tile grout had black and brown mould over them so had to have a bath which was nice change but would have preferred to be able to use the shower especially with an early checkout. The room was huge and we'll decorated though an update wouldn't go a miss. It was at least a king size bed. Wouldn't choose to stay here again unless was able to verify things had been cleaned properly rather than a rushed dusting. Staff were very friendly and a credit to company, the maid in the breakfast room was particularly helpfully when I didn't like the sour source the fruit was in and fetched selection of fruit. As I said this could easy be 4 star.

Very unfortunately the website pictures did not reflect reality. My room in the coach house no. 28 was dismal. The wet room / bathroom was pretty grotty, the walls in the bedroom had been touched up with different coloured paint and the overall condition of the furnishings looked as if they were out of a 2nd hand shop. The walls were thin and the sound proofing between walls none existant. The Wi-Fi although free was so slow it was unusable at less than 0.5meg download. It has to be the worse hotel I have ever stayed in. I booked in for 2 days, and asked on arrival having seen my room if I could cancel the 2nd night. Sadly I couldn't. I voted with my feet and booked into another hotel for the 2nd night it was that bad.

Nice venue, car park needs some attention and some if the decor is a little dated.

Lovely location, loved the room, not modern, not new, scuffed around the edges but lovely old fashioned place. Food was good but not fantastic, slightly over priced for bar food. Excellent staff. Free parking and for those who need it free Wi-Fi.

Great venue for training Staff excellent, cannot be more helpful. Good food and plenty of it. Flexible approach to catering for our needs.

Due to the horrendous snow conditions I had to abandon my car and find a place to stay for the night. The Gipsy Hill was the only place available and they couldn't of been more accommodating to me. The price was very reasonable for a last minute late check in, the food was Was amazing the beer was good, staff were friendly and the bed was extremely comfortable. What more do you need.

I stay here fairly regularly with work, staff are super friendly and although some decor is a bit dated the rooms are generally very clean and well kept. Food is really good too. Love this place!

This place thought it was something it wasn’t, the woman that owned the place thought she was running the Dakota hotel, the way way she treated her staff in front of the other guests were apaulling, we even asked for a U-shaped table which we overheard them say they do only to be told they don’t do U-shaped tables. The French Bar man Henry was first class and great entertainment he even told us a funny story for about 20 mins on how he quit smoking he was hilarious. The head waitress Sue was a little darling, we really built up a firm friendship with her she was a fantastic host and made us feel very welcome. The rooms were adequate they did their job.

The staff were great. Very accommodating when they could be. Very clean hotel and nice comfortable room to sleep in. Breakfast was brilliant. A+ all round!

Have stayed here a few times when working in the area. Nice hotel and grounds. Friendly staff. Downsides : bar isn't 24 hours and creaky floorboards in places. Nothing to warrant not recommending it to other people though. I would be happy to stay here again.

The room I stayed in was massive and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

The staff are helpful, had booking details to hand making check-in a dream, had lots of info a pleasure to stay.

Middle of no where really nice place good breakfast… But I got savaged by bed bugs.

Great place, slightly out of town with private parking (perfect for those traveling by car). Really great rooms and really great continental breakfast rich and plentiful, there are also fruits and cereals for those who want. Consogliatissimo.

Lovely staff and good food. Sorry about the rooms mine needed a good spring clean. The bathroom had been redone but the shower either froze or boiled me lucky the pressure was very bad.

A hotel with friendly staff. However there is limited parking, the place is run down, if you're vegan then don't expect much in the way of food options. It is near the m5, and in nice countryside style spot.

Lovely hotel in a nice setting. Small, but well appointed conference facilities. Good food, great staff.

Stopped for a coffee whilst cycling, friendly staff, very welcoming and offered early food as chef happy to cook half an hour early. Didn't eat but will be sure to go back! Menu looks very good and prices reasonable.

Only popped in for quick coffees which were very nice and reasonably priced.

I attended to take an exam. Hotel looks well or sentee, clean and tidy whilst a little out dated.

Lovely gardens, friendly staff but rooms are very outdated, could do with a refurb.

First room we were in was dirty! We were moved to an alternative room where we found broken glass on the floor by the bed. Management were very apologetic and gave us a bottle of wine.

This hotel is a blast from the past (1970s) although the staff where very welcoming the hotel definitely needs a refit in the bar and restaurant. My room was in one of the out buildings and was clean but had a strange smell. The shower did not work properly and it would have taken a week to fill the bath. The breakfast was not served until 0730 this we found to be a little late when having to get into Exeter for appointments at 0900. A reasonable chose of evening dinner was OK for the price. Would I go back to this hotel NO.

Lovely warm atmosphere and great staff who always go out of their way to help you! The large gardens are beautiful — brilliant for eating, drinking and relaxing outside on a sunny day, while the food itself is always of a high standard.

The web site states twin standard room is £70 got to hotel and charged £110! rip off small dank rooms steer clear.
