Just got back from 5 days here great value for money good food, excellent spa staff were amazing.

Lovely place, great rooms clean well presented. Friendly staff and very helpful. Good food.

Very small room
Shower so small difficult too use and flooded bathroom
Late breakfast sitting very poor on refilling up fruit juice, toast, butter etc and full menu not available
Short bar hours
Understand short staffed, or appeared to be!
Extremely high bar prices, and a small coffee £4.95!
Very disappointed, Doubt will return.

Overpriced room and breakfast was never worth £15. Terrible window view. Out dated decor. Dangerous bathroom. Bed was noisy and uncomfortable. Toilet took 4 minutes to fill.
Felt like I was at a retirement home.

Pool green. Shabby. Place Needs a full overhaul. Wallpaper peeling off in public rooms. Bedrooms smell damp. Complaints from all staying there. A la carte menu a joke.
Staff try their best but no leadership. I just wish I had read reviews before we went. Used to be a lovely hotel gone downhill and just can’t recommend it. We paid nearly 200 pounds a night for bed and breakfast. Not worth anything like that price. No one wants to help or get manager to speak to and complain.

Awful! over priced, asking 5☆ prices for a very poor 2☆ offering. Rooms are tired and musty with poor dated decor — the one bar area was so musty with its antiquated curtains we chose to go back to our slightly less musty room 😑 £360 for a 2 night stay and we couldn't even book a table in the one restaurant as they were fully booked? what hotel cannot facilitate their guests in is own restaurant? this is also post covid restrictions being eased. 😡 ensuite was disgusting and poorly maintained as was the entire hotel — clearly this hotel is reliant on coach bookings where the elderly are easily fleeced😡 the heated pool was green & looked anything but inviting rating is misleading and prices are outrageous — DO NOT STAY HERE.

Second visit this year. First time here was May 21 for a wonderful dinner. Lovely restaurant with great staff accommodating requests.
Food is good value and tasty.
Today met family to enjoy cream tea. 7 of us were shown into the Reading room which was great to have our own room. Again good service and good quality food.

Every thing. Had a wonderful Christmas day meal yesterday with my 92 year old mum. Staff were amazing and attentive, food was cooked to perfection, think I can safely say it was the best Christmas lunch I have ever had out. The hotel was decorated very tastefully and just made an otherwise strange Christmas into a wonderful experience. Thank you Currant house, and to the staff, chef and anyone else who worked so hard all day.

Such a lovely hotel and they are trying so hard to make everything perfect in these circumstances. Would recommend for a holiday at any time of year.

What a beautiful hotel. Lovely friendly staff made us feel so welcome. Lovely food in the restaurant service was spot on. I’ll definitely use this hotel again. Just so sad as staff look very worried about the lockdown but I know you will all get through this and then carry on with what you do best, looking after your guests. Thank you guys and good luck x hope to see you all again soon xx.

Had a lovely couple of days at the hotel and hanging around the area and visiting beaches.
Staff were all adhering to social distancing with masks to ensure comfort and safety.
Our room 58 was okay but the view was nothing but a wall. The morning after our first night there was a big leak in the ceiling so we had to move. The second room was much better and management gave us complimentary wine for inconvenience.
Breakfast was okay on the first day however staff seemed quite flustered on the Saturday morning and we gave up asking for our order.
A nice stay however. Dog friendly :)

Terrible, the whole place needs a bulldozer. Worst hotel I have ever stayed at, here’s why:
1. Old and tatty — particularly our room (116)
2. Room was dirty, dust everywhere, decor from the 60s! Poor quality amenities, carpet worn, dirty bathroom, duvet cover doesn’t fit, dirty curtains, smell of stale smoke, shower runs cold constantly, bloody hole in the ceiling!
3. Customer service at the bar was terrible, kept waiting and ignored, staff clearly show a lack of training!
4. The corridors are falling apart, was a miracle I didn’t fall through the bloody floor!
5. The Wi-Fi is shockingly bad, constantly disconnecting
6. Why is there 80s music playing in the corridor constantly?!?
7. The pictures the hotel use are definitely NOT true to life. Biggest CATFISH ever! Want me to post the ACTUAL pictures?
8. The price — for the fee we paid, I’d have rather of slept in my car! SORT it out!

Lovely building with everything you needed but what makes it stand out is the friendly and helpful staff, well done all.

Stayed here for New Year what an absolutely fantastic night gala dinner entertainment glass of champagne to let new year in. Staff are amazing they made it a very enjoyable stay … we will be coming back again.

I have been there loads of times over the last 30years and always had a lovely meal there.

Food terrible — it was from the £8.50 menu admittedly but the sausages I literally wouldn’t have fed my dog — service was ok, staff weren’t very happy, a smile would be nice. Also rather poor dog owners have to eat in the cold draughty lobby with main door opening all time and people staring at you eating. The management seem unable to reply to messages and requests to curb excessive noise during our stay were ignored. The room was old and tired, needs massive overhaul just seems to cater for OAPS, Would never come back — heard locally it is called the ‘ dirty durrant’ am seeing why now!

I stayed at this hotel on a coach holiday. This October the rooms are very good the food was ok.
but the meal service was very unorganized on the first night we were not tolled we had to mark the menu with what we wanted until a waiter snapt don't you want to eat…
also all week the staff appeared to be running Around like headless chickens.

Needs work on the corridor floors… they squeak when you even look at them, the rooms however are well kept, tidy and the staff are first class.

Delightful room with separate lounge area. Ample food and lovely restaurant to eat. Good table service from friendly staff and a spa for extra R&R to make our weekend even more special. Recommended.

Excellent food and great service. The room we had was good, some minor decor issues but did not detract from apleasant stay.

Very helpful staff, friendly comfortable atmosphere, excellent food and really efficient waiting staff. Plenty of safe on-site parking. Beds very comfortable and good en-suite with powerful easy to use shower. Room has hairdryer and iron/ironing board. The rooms are away from the road so traffic noise is not a problem. There is a lift for those who can’t manage stairs, it’s a bit slow but adequate
Bus stop right beside the hotel carpark so local bus travel so easy for Bideford and Barnstaple etc.

We called in for dinner in the restaurant without booking and were seated immediately. Our main courses were fine, and the desserts were delicious. Service was good, our waitress was pleasant and friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food and drinks to arrive.

This was our second stay at the Durrant and was just as good as the first, if not better. Our room was lovely, the food very good, and the staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. Our room looked out onto a lovely, little courtyard with a fountain. The sound of the water was nice and relaxing. The outdoor pool is heated now, which is an improvement, and there's now a lovely, quiet reading room on the upper ground floor where you can have tea or coffee served if you like. There are small things that could be improved, like an electric socket nearer to a mirror for the hairdryer for example, but that's a detail that could be remedied easily with a longer cable. We enjoyed our stay.

We have just returned from 3 nights at this hotel, we have had a very good time. The food was very good, plentiful and nicely presented. The staff were friendly and efficient and the lad that called bingo made us laugh. Beds comfy and clean. Rooms do need a freshen up but everything worked. Only complaint was the lift, useless, only appeared when it felt like it! Only 2 floors but we had to wait ages every time, I can't manage stairs cause of bad arthritis. That's it, lovely place and would go again.

Great staff, nothing too much trouble. Hotel decor a little tired. The bathroom I had was in need of work — cracked tiles grab handles on bath broken off. But had a great stay and was looked after very well. If fixtures and fittings had been better it would have been 5 stars.

I only go to R@R, which is the beauty and hair place on the first floor. Any one can book up and have a massage or your nails done. Or a fake tan or even a real one. The girls are lovely and so helpful. I book for a massage as often as I can. They have quite a range of beauty treatments. The place is very elegant and u feel really comfortable there. Really recommend it. But can get busy.

Having recently moved opposite this 'place' and I refer to it as a place now; following our visit today, it is certainly not a hotel and restaurant of a standard required in the 21st century. So having booked our visit for a birthday lunch the day before, we arrived to blank looks from the miserable male individual at the reception desk who could hardly bring himself to speak but grunted and pointed to the Appledore Bar. We entered this stale tired bar room with no atmosphere with even more tired staff who almost had to ballot who was going to take our order. We booked the restaurant and ended up in the bar ordering our food. Half an hour later we were still waiting for our gourmet feast only to be presented with what could easily been a frozen ready cooked roast (value range) which had been microwaved with it was even more tasteless frozen undercooked vegetables, totally insufficient in quantity for three adults. The deserts were equally poor and supposedly free but three pounds for two small spoonful's of cream. We couldn't get out quick enough after paying. This place is opposite where we live and would be so nice to frequent for it's convenience. I feel so sorry for non local visitors being treated so badly and going home and say like us — never again. Amazingly I can honestly say — to date — this is the WORST hotel I've every stayed in. The locals laughed when we said where we were staying and told us tales of "Fawlty Towers". We assumed it was some lighthearted banter. Nope!
The rooms are small and in dire need of updating. Yes it's an older period property but that's no excuse for peeling wallpaper, cracks and chips on most surfaces, ripped and torn carpeting.
The place isn't "tired", it's pretty much deceased! The receptionist (South African lady) can take only notes and cannot make eye contact. Excellent customer service — but not here.
The place is dog friendly but beware, that will limit you to only a handful of dingy ground floor rooms.
They've tried to upgrade some of the bathrooms but it's been done shoddily with great chunks of plaster filling. Zero attention to detail. The place is old so you expect creaky floorboards but not what can only be described as the sounds of dragging furniture till 1am. Peaceful this place isn't! The breakfast is award winning… though I'm not sure what century. It's greasy and un-appetizing. Coffee? How many slices madam? The rooms have very few plugs, not viable really for 21st century needs. We asked for an extension cable that took a day to arrive. The handyman who has zero grasp of English simply let himself into our room — highly embarrassing as we were getting dressed! A wonderful experience and the height of privacy!

Lovely pampering session here. Girls very welcoming & helpful. Amazing massage. The high tea was to die for, thoroughly recommend the silver package.

Myself and my fiancee stayed here recently for my birthday. This is our third visit! I was treated to a wonderful Gold Spa Package at the R&R Spa which I highly recommend. The therapists in the spa are highly skilled and so friendly and attentive. The spa package included Lunch and Devon Cream Tea. After a relaxing time in the Spa, we went to our room (we always go for a Romantic Jacuzzi Room) The room was modern, clean, and the spa bath was fantastic! The service in the restaurant is on point, we had a lovely dinner and the waitress was so kind, she brought out dessert with a candle and sang me Happy Birthday! All the staff are so accommodating and friendly, they all work long hard hours yet still nothing is too much trouble. Nice surrounding area — Appledore and Westward Ho! have some nice views, places to eat and vintage arcades We will definitely be back again for more pampering and relaxing times!

Staff polite, food over priced but edible. Had a small problem but Debbie sorted it quickly & professionally. Can't praise her enough. Cleanliness of room not good, dust on lamp stand, sugar sachets on drink facilities in room stuck to tray because tray is dirty.

Went to a theam night with 3 coarse meal great night was had will do it again value for money worth supporting as some of the money goes to charity.

Booked a twin room for our annual reunion which takes place at the beginning of March every year. This year due to the severe weather many of us were unable to attend due the dangerous road conditions and advice from the police not to travel unless absolutely necessary. The roads didn't clear of snow and ice sufficiently until the third day of our 4 day stay. Despite giving the hotel daily updates of our predicament and our eventual cancellation we have subsequently been told that we would not be entitled to any form of refund on our booking. Perhaps in future the hotel would prefer all guests to ignore all police advise and travel to the hotel, hoping that they do actually arrive in one piece. Lesson learned, Don't book again.

Stayed 4 nights on a dance holiday. Food was mediocre but edible. Coffee was lousy. Stayed here two years ago and told them that we enjoyed our stay apart from the lousy coffee. Clearly, they haven't improved it. There were 87 in our group and there was just one person behind the bar serving pre-dinner drinks. The queue time was 25 minutes. The staff tried hard but it was bad management. Rooms were not cleaned properly and mattress was really uncomfortable. Dance floor was a good size but old and uneven and held together in places with gaffer tape! We won't be returning any time soon.

It's not a fantastic hotel, in need of a revamp. Staff work hard, room comfortable though not that clean, one young waiter thought he was something better, (rude at times), we have been to better.

Quite difficult for me to star rate this coach break I had at Durrant House Hotel. Big old place, very hot small room without a view… except of an ugly wall. The staff made it to my mind, they were happy and friendly, also were working in every aspect. Pro's and con's, needs a little bit of work on the building. First breakfast wasn't really hot but otherwise good food. Bus stop right outside hotel, so convenient to get to places. Large car park. Outside pool area unkempt and not inviting. Disabled friendly with ramps etc.

Stayed here for weekend on a coach trip. We ate downstairs but the room was cold. Service took a while, breakfast one day was tepid otherwise food was good but we had to ask for extra veg as we were only given one veg dish between four people. Had stayed here about fourteen years ago but thought it had gone down since my last stay.

First stay, October 2017 had always wanted to stay, for over 40 years of yearly visits to Westward Ho!, I was not disappointed AT ALL, it was all VERY lovely, as a female lone traveller, felt happy,. Safe, welcomed, and enjoyed every minuet.

Went there for a craft fair wasn't designed for the disabled lots of steps everywhere the gentleman assigned to help us was excellent. Food was expensive. Didn't offer free tea or coffee to traders.

Really good food, fantastic staff, very nice atmosphere. Easy to find located near nice village and easy to get to beaches for a nice walk amongst the dunes or on the sand not too far from Woolacombe or Barnstable.

Quirky decor but comfortable rooms. Hotel in winter caters for bargain weekend stays. Good service. Located short drive from Bideford.

Staff are polite and helpful. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. The food was good and reasonably priced. The hotel is convenient for travelling to local places of interest and there is a good public bus service from outside the hotel. There is also a decent sized car park.

Went to the Adele tribute night this evening the young lady who performed was fantastic that all of us there asked for more songs from her which she did oblige in doing. However the christmas meal was absolutely bloody dreadful. The prawn cocktail was served on a side plate with probably a tablespoon of prawns in a nasty sauce topped with smoked salmon which I cant stand anyway, four salad leaves from a bag of salad about a week old certainley not fresh and the brown bread was stale and like cardboard in fact cardboard was probably fresher. After that was the turkey or beef dinner well both meats were obviously boil in the bag rubbish which was tasteless, the pig in blanket was vile, the stuffing was vile tasting rubbis the only decent thing was the potatoes. The veg was hard and cold and the gravy was non existant and what you had was lumpy. You could have more but I prefer to pour my own not have an extra drizzle poured on for me like a child. I have to say the dessert of sticky toffee pudding was lovely and I crammed it in because my first two courses I had left barely touched. The coffee was bitter the mince pies were dry Was it worth £28.50? No it wasnt I did complain but they were not interested in listening. If I could of just seen the entertainment without the awful food I might of been happier but never again will I subject myself to eating such mediocre food like they served up tonight.

Staff were incredibly friendly. Very nice large rooms including bed and sofa. Close to the beach, Bideford town and Barnstaple.

Visited on a coach party for 4 days from 25th Sept 2017 hotel fine room lovely, service ln the dining room would you like to sit for more than 2 hours in the evening for your meal which when it eventually came was very good apart from this an enjoyable stay.

The hotel is very dated in its decor and needs upgrading. This could be because we had a dog friendly room and they probably put dog owners in the worst rooms. The view was of a blank wall outside. The only mitigating factor was the dinner, which was good. The breakfast could be a lot better. They only offered sliced bread and tinned fruit for example. I wouldn't want to stay here again.

It's OK. Clean, nothing to shout about, breakfast average — no fruit except dry or canned, no vegetables of any form. Staff to posh or just fed-up and looking tired. Wrong room, no Internet, struggled to found room for parking. I will try not to bother again. Sorry for being inconvenience.

Absolute shambles. Booked for a night to celebrate my birthday with my other half. At £170 a night for a romantic room with four poster bed and juccuzi. We arrived, early to have a chill in the bar before we could go to our room. Waited 20 mins to get served with a drink at the bar. When we got to the room it was un clean and not up to standard. Noisy air conditioning unit right by the window… Juccuzi bath had the wrong plug so hardly held the water, pubes on the floor, motors were extremely noisy and hardly any of the functions worked. Bed was extremely sqeeky and un pleasant. Noise from down stairs could also be clearly heard in the room. When I went to complain I was told to fill out a form for review. I said this wasn't good enough and after an hour finally saw the manager who couldn't be less helpful, he said that he knew the room and the faults were not there when I asked him to come and see he responded he didn't have time. No other rooms were available so I asked for a full refund which was processed but I'm still waiting for it to go through. We decided to find elsewhere to stay that night I can recommend Hotel Royal in the town… As for The durrent!?!? It's more like Faulty towers this hotel and its staff are a complete shambles and will only disappoint.

Stayed here for a night despite being local. Was quite impressed, passed this hotel many times but never seen inside before now. Inside feels quite grand, perhaps slightly dated but that's in it's character. The food is amazing! I wasn't sure it was going to be good but it far surpassed our expectations! Worth a visit even if your not staying. The lady serving in the restaurant was very nice, professional and very good at what she does! Room was average, not a bad thing. If definitely recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel in a lovely part of the world. Rooms are adequate. Food is lovely. We've always had a great weekend when staying here.

Very nice hotel. Food very nice. The staff are very pleasant. Most seem to be Polish. Building does seem dated, but if you just want a nice meal then you can't really beat this place. Try the 2 course from the menu. As this is the best value. This place offers fairly cheap accommodation and is favoured by holiday firms. Most nights there is entertainment. There is a outside swimming pool. You will need to check to see if it is open before you go down in your swimsuit. Convenient for visiting Bideford or Westward Ho! as the Durrant is roughly halfway between the two. Visit Appledore, this quaint fishing village is famous for the ship builders and Hockings ice cream.

Hotel nice but could be a lot better! It's a pity it's run down and in desperate need of a make over! Food lovely, staff lovely! Situated to far out of town. Ground floor room comfortable but could hear every step and movement from room above, floorboards creeping!

The room was good and the staff couldn't do enough to make our stay any better. Meals where good and the waiters are excellent.

Never spent the night here but have enjoyed many parties or receptions here.

I do not know what people find to moan about! If you have got a really cheap offer on a room then you get what you pay for… last 5 times I've been in June for a double room at £40 with breakfast has been fantastic! Makes me and my young daughter feel very welcoming and comfortable.

Stayed for 2 nights with friends, rooms are depressingly decorated, particularly the fake (plastic) brown marble walls and floors of the bathroom, shower head was thick with limescale, clearly doesn't get cleaned, many of the staff were poorly trained and unaware how to deal with the smallest of problems. After speaking to the illusive duty manager it is clear a lack of training in customer skills starts here, on the plus side their beer and spirits prices were reasonable for a hotel, glad it was a short stay. Won't be going back there.

Most might overlook the drab and dreary interior for a cheap stay, but you can't ignore the RUDE, IGNORANT management! They don't understand the meaning of the word 'hospitality'. Worse still if you travel with a dog, expect to be treated like a second class person!

It's best described as traditional. That is to say it's a little stuck in the past. The food was good, the drink selection was good and it has a pool. One of my party had problems with their room. The decor was a but tatty and the entertainment was 70 working men's club. More Fawlty towers than the Hilton but that may be the bonus.

I have to firstly stress that the lass who looked after me (Jessica) in the Treatments Room (massage) was jolly courteous, & very good at her skill. Slept well, but fortunately for me, NOT at the hotel! The FILTH to be found in one corridor was appauling. And not new filth, this had been there some time, showing the carpet edges are fluffy/grey & littered with all sorts. I complained to reception, who found it easier to pass the buck to 'oh this is housekeeping' even when I suggested they look, to support all I was conveying. The whole place is tired. Dirty windows & glass. No sparkle in premises or staff. As a housekeeper myself, of many years, and having done a good few years in hospitality (licensed premises), I was both angry, but saddened too. It is almost a sort of 'oh only coach loads of pensioners' attitude; so do the least one can get away with. The cream tea: A stale scone with that ghastly white synthetic cream (couldn't eat). And the sandwiches: nothing dainty, would have looked perfectly at home on a building site: cheese & chunky pickle. Someone needs to do an undercover job here, in all departments!

They gave me food poisoning, upscale dining?! More like head over the toilet for a week. My poor poor stomach. The floor was also disgusting and the shower had hair stuck in the drains. And there was a spider nest with a family of 6 under my sheets. Loved it though:).

Just stayed last night. Took my girlfriend for her 30th birthday. Booked a romantic room. The room was stunning I was unsure after reading the reviews but neither of us wanted to leave the lady on check in was nice as was the lad who built rapport around coming from the same area. We originally had a room with a Jacuzzi in a separate room to the bed however we asked if they had a room with a jacuzzi in the bedroom free like on the pictures we had seen. That room was taken on the first night but we were kindly transferred without any hassle the following day all our bags were taken for us whilst we were out at Woolacombe beach. Room 153 overlooked the outdoor pool at the back and had the jacuzzi in the room so we watched the worldcup final from there as the TV is ideally situated to watch from the jacuzzi. The jacuzzi also had a radio and was very clean as was the shower and bathroom. The hotel although old is in very good condition and the location is is very good with only short drives between key areas and the views were fantastic. I would happily recommend this hotel. The breakfast had lots of choice and the dinner was reasonably good value but most importantly tasted very good. My partner loved the lasagne and she is VERY picky when it comes to lasagne. Parking was easy with plenty of spaces the room we got was good value compared to other places I. E. The marriott which you get a lot less bang for you buck.

This hotel is ok, but they keep locking me out at night! 24 hour reception, apparently. I was locked out for over 2 hours I rang on my mobile and pressed reception buzzer. But nobody came. Since I've also had a 20 minute and 15 minute wait.

I was a bit hesitant after read some of the reviews but ended up booking a three night stay while on business in Bideford at this hotel, I was very happy I did no complaints at all had a lovelly stay, my room was spacioucs, clean mordern bathroom was clean nice rain head shower and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was excellent hot and served with a smile, I had diner on one night and it was very good, I liked the hotel very much the staff were very frendly I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.

Have stayed here twice now in the last six months. Fantastic. Food service everything was fabulous. Bar manager a bit moody on occasion but generally everything was tip top. The entertainment not always supported which could mar your stay but it didnt ours. It was all very good. Highly recommend it and we will be returning as often as we can. Also surrounding area is delightful. Came home feeling pampered and refreshed.

The worst hotel ever, coach holiday trip a disaster, polish staff, rude and unhelpful, food disgusting, not allowed to have more than 1 bread roll which was edible floorboards creaked, window broken in bedroom, rain coming in. Fawlty towers of Devon please avoid this hotel, you will be amazed how bad it it.
