Not dog friendly and we waited well over half an hour for a sandwich!

Popped in here for the first time today, soon as we walked in the pub it had a friendly / warm feeling / the pub is stunning and kept to a high standard and very clean, the bar man was friendly/ polite and smiles all round even happy to have a chat, after a peek at the menu we decided to stay for food and wow it didn’t disappoint…. Food was absolutely amazing/ and my 2 fussy teenagers enjoyed every bite, home cooked / fresh / portions were just right and well presented, homemade coleslaw beautiful, I will definitely return again and would highly recommend to anyone visiting :)

We popped in for the toilet & a pint. Which can I say was delicious. Absolutely friendly staff & very welcoming. Definitely go back again if we come up north. Up here on holiday half term as I work in a school. 🍺

We went here for lunch, £16 for a defrosted and microwaved lasagna, inedible chicken and other meals were average at best, asked to speak to the manager to feedback our experience, took a while to come and see us. I wasn’t looking for a refund, Manager was very aggressive and rude saying they’ve only had 6 complaints “in the festive period” implying we were tourists looking for a free meal.

As a party of 6 we had a very average, clearly microwaved and very over priced lunch. We asked to speak to the manager to give some feedback, she took about 10 minutes to come over to our table despite the place not being busy and appeared with an attitude. Her immediate response was overly defensive and aggressive telling us that she wouldn’t give us a refund as we had eaten the food even though at no point prior to this had we mentioned wanting a refund.
Whilst arguing she did also mention that she had had 6 other complaints in the past week which didn’t even seem to concern her!
I wouldn’t have bothered writing a review just about the food quality and price however her attitude was horrendous.
Would not recommend.

Just had a lovely lamb dinner, and a couple of pints of crafted beer. Very prompt service, helpful friendly staff, really nice pub to visit😄

It's a horrible place run by a horrible. Little man who attacks pensioner's and thinks he's some sort of gangster, rude staff, crap food, overall a terrible. Place to visit.

Popped in Sunday for a family meal. Massive portions, friendly service and gorgeous food. Covid safe with screens fitted between tables. Highly recommend (When we are allowed to visit again! )

Always love a visit to the peacock! Such a friendly atmosphere and can not fault the food, have worked our way through the menu over the years and every meal has always been amazing. We’ve just had an overnight stay and the accommodation was lovely. Spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable and even has sky tv! Our stay was finished of with a gorgeous breakfast. Well worth a visit!

Very rude and slow staff the short older man is awful. If you want to get a feel for how this pub runs then go to trip advisor and read the owners replies to reviews left. Its that appalling its actually good reading.

Waited almost 1 hour for 2 hot sandwiches and 1 portion of chips. Was very nice when it eventually came but wouldn’t go again.

My friends and I went to the Peacock today after a rather pleasant visit to Bakewell. It was very busy but still a nice place to stop and have a cold drink and some lunch. We ordered our food at the bar and I specifically said my order and my friend confirmed it. However after a hour long wait (which was expected and completely understandable) a simple misunderstanding occurred where they forgot the third bowl of chips as we thought we had ordered it. But that is not the reason for my review.
We told a member of staff that we thought there should be a third bowl and they fetched who we assumed to be the owner/manager. He came over and straight away I felt intimidated — as a young woman It was in fact quite scary! It was as if he came out ready for a fight. His body language was aggressive and the way he spoke to me in front of my table of friends and the surrounding customers was despicable. He was incredibly condescending and very patronising. I was in such a shock with how he was acting that I didn’t feel the need to kick up a fuss / didn’t think it was worth it for a bowl of chips. In hindsight on the drive home I wish I would have stood up to him as it really did ruin the day. Customer service is so incredibly important for any business and needless to say his customer service is non existent.

Been here numerous times … fantastic food, fantastic staff, cannot give one negative comment. We always take our family and friends when they come over to visit and everyone loves it … highly recommend.

Food was ok. Had to wait an hour form order. No warning of the wait no apology. Guinness was poor. Felt it was overpriced won't rush back.

We had a excellent meal the last time we visited had a varied menu. Its very popular and has alfresco area outside Though not cheap. We would visit again. The picture of the outside display, makes it very inviting,. Right bang in the middle of the town, near or next to the river and close to the town's overflow car park,

Cosy, appealing inn that's been awarded 3 rosettes by the AA. A country pub offering food, local ales, outside eating, parking (only a few spaces) and a lovely atmosphere. Sadly, on this occasion, our order was misplaced meaning we had to wait an hour for our food after following up. Not a great experience. Staff did try to make it up which was much appreciated and the steak and ale pie was impressive (and recommended). That said Lamb Cutlets (special) were overcooked, possibly due to the early mix up. Not sure it's worth the 3 rosettes but it's tasty enough. Hope you have a better experience!

Food was excellent. Clearly local produce cooked perfectly and well presented on the plate. 10/10. Staff were pleasant enough but inattentive. The bar manager taking my order didn't listen to my replies to his questions for the order and I had to repeat a few times. Customer focus needs improving.

Fantastic food for a very reasonable price. You'll be spending along time searching to try and find food better than this inside a pub. The best curry I've had in years and excellent local Peak Ales to accompany. Friendly service and a lovely venue. Compliments to the chef!

We had a beautiful lunch service was quick and the servings were generous without being over-powering. I can fully recommend the baked camembert and chutney it was done to perfection. Two of our gang had pensioners special Gammon steak which were large for our small ladies. Daughter had southern fried chicken and hubby had chargrilled chicken burger. If down in Derbyshire again would be happy to return.

Five stars awarded because I was given the best fish finger sandwich ever! No exceptions. All made fresh on the premises.

Pub review. Staff were busy and took a little while to warm up but where friendly after initial fluster. Food was tasty and music was good. The atmosphere in the main room was really nice and relaxed near the jukebox. Unfortunately we were sat in a separate room, that leads to both loos and the outside areas, felt a little like sitting a darkened corridor! Room needs more lighting / heating (and we were there on summers day). We could hear the music in the room next door, but with no speakers we did feel we were missing out a little! Would visit again to sit in the main room or garden, would be worth making a reservation to make sure you end up in a good spot.

Brilliant. Clean and comfortable. Modern and quite room with very comfy bed. Good breakfast. Good beer on tap including a small selection of craft ales. We arrived late on and there was an hour wait for food so we went to the Chinese restaurant across the square. It was also excellent.

Booking here is essential. We booked for 12 as they started serving. It got very busy with long queues to order food. There was a bit of a wait but it was worth it. Amazing roast dinner. Came away feeling very full and satisfied. Good service and excellent value.

We stopped in for a drink on the sunny bank holiday weekend, it was busy and there was a queue at the bar, but even when got to the front about 10 people who came after us were served first. Understand it was busy but frustrating on a sunny day when wanted to enjoy a refreshing drink. We didn't eat but the food did look and smell delicious so would consider trying some if we were back in the area.

Not cheap, but then to be expected for Bakewell! There is a nice beer garden in the summer, but it is right next to the coop car park so don't expect peaceful views! However out of the pubs in Bakewell it's one of the best. The food is good and the beer is well kept.

We were visiting the area for the weekend, and thankfully I found this lovely pub on line and booked a table for Sunday lunch, so glad I did both… the pub was very busy and the food was amazing. I will be recommending this pub to family and friends…

A pleasant pub serving high quality food. Prices are ever so slightly inflated, but thanks to large portion sizes, you do get good value for money. We both felt portion sizes were too large, to the point of being ridiculous. The Ploughman's lunch could easily feed two people, as could the fish and chips. Staff were run off their feet, but were friendly and helpful throughout. I'd recommend The Peacock, but order wisely to avoid wasting lots of food.

Great pub. Right next to the market. My grandad and nephew were made up with the nice warm pub after being in the rain and tasty pub grub. The is a step up into the pub and the staff were great helping my grandad who is disabled on his left side from a stroke. They helped him up the step and seated him and looked after him well. And helped store his mobility scooter as well. Plus the beer was great to I noticed 4 local beers on tap. Tasted great the peak golden ale and the pale ale so fresh hoppy bitter refreshing. So good I had two. Felt like I needed grandads mobility scooter after.

The pub is lovely inside and very comfortable. We had an excellent meal of poached salmon and a Yorkshire pudding with sausages in an onion gravy. Would definitely come again.

Really friendly staff from the minute we booked. Our room was lovely tastefully decorated. Really nice and warm, we arrived in — 1 degrees. The breakfast was great. I would definitely recommend staying here.

I cannot recommend the peacock enough. It's own brewery on site, fantastic food and great atmosphere. We go here regularly given any opportunity. They have rooms which from outside look amazing.

Went for a nice meal with the wife. I had a surf and turf which was delicious but a little expensive. It had as great atmosphere and nice staff. I would go again.

Called in on a trip to the Monday market, nice warm welome on a freezing day. We had the fish and chlps which was cooked to to perfection, the beer was also first class. Will be bacl soon, would recommend the pub to all.

Busy place especially on market days. Nice food and does good deals for those on pension. Large outside space for the sunnier days which is nice for eating and drinking and watching the world go by.

The Peacock is a traditional pub in a premium Bakewell location, let down by staff who don't seem to enjoy their vocation. I've been here on a number of different times. The food is reasonable and the setting warm and welcoming, but I've yet to see a smile particularly from the bar staff.

Local to me, but not been here to eat before as the prices are expensive. On this visit I had a pint a Chatsworth Gold, and to eat I had a beef sandwich. The sandwich was very good, 2 generous slices of hot beef with 2 slices of white bloomer, rocket, chunky fries and gravy. The food was delicious, but it’s still £10.95 for a hot beef sandwich and chips. We also had a filled Yorkshire pudding with vegetables and chips, and a veggie burger. The other food was reasonable, but the chips served with the other meals (not chunky) were awful. The pub was busy, as it always is. We sat at the back of the pub, which had the misfortune of carrying a citrus odour from the toilets, which for me doesn’t complement the dining the experience. Service wasn’t great. I asked twice if it was okay to change 2 things on the order, to which I got no verbal or visual response. When our food arrived we had to ask for cutlery. When our cutlery arrived we had to ask for condiments. Our group are the opposite of demanding. And finally, only a minor gripe, but there are 3 Wi-Fi SSIDs published over the bar. We were only able to see 1, which the password was refused every time. I really suggest that you rename your SSIDs and make your passwords customer friendly.

Warm little pub in the town of Bakewell. Wish I had taken a photo of my food but I was too busy enjoying every bite! Very hearty and wholesome food plus cold beer and great customer service.

We walked in the peacock and all the tables were reserved I didn't think this was fair and when we sat down on at one of the tables that said it was reserved we just got dirty looks from one of the members of the staff just going around cleaning up the tables I won't be coming back here in a hurry. I can appreciate the fact that you want to make money from people eating and drinking but this is going to bit too far.

Nice pub with a good menu, good atmosphere inside cozy sort of place with small seating areas off the main passage way, also has a beer garden to the side of the entrance. A good selection of drinks available including a few craft beers although these are on the expensive side.

Highly Recommended! Great pub with a great selection of locally brewed beers with great food. I highly recommend the 11oz burger which is mouth wateringly delicious, you will have to wait upto 25min for the burger as the staff will say as it's made fresh to order but trust me it is worth the wait! A proper burger that just melts in your mouth (if it's big enough to fit in!? ) with chunky home made chips that are truly chunky, I can only describe them and potatoes that have been squared off to immitate chips which are amazing.

Extremely rude, ignorant unprofessional bar staff! Need customer service training! Small bar, so very easy to keep an eye who is next to be served. Not that busy but waited 15 mins to be served! Was going to order food as well for me and my family but decided not to due to the appalling attitude, disrespect and sheer ignorance of the bar staff.! Never ever been spoken to like this before. Such a shame our day ended like this at The Peacock Inn as Bakewell is a lovely place to visit.

Came here as they had a good vegetarian section on the menu, and we'd struggled to find any in Bakewell. Unfortunately when asking if their veggie burger was suitable for vegans, one waitress didn't even know what this was, and the second said they couldn't be sure. They made no effort to ask the chef or check, and I was then told that they 'wouldn't chop or change anything because they were busy'. I found this very unaccommodating, as all they would need to do is not put the cheese on. Shame because it looked like a lovely pub, but we didn't even stay for a drink after the way we were spoken to.

Food at the Peacock is very good, and they know how to look after their ales. The pub itself is pleasant, if a bit tired inside. Prices are on the high side, which is why I couldn't give the full five stars.

Location is good, beer was fine. Went for a meal with friends and our families. We were shown to our pre booked table promptly. The main issues were the food and service. It was obvious that the children were an inconvenience, despite being well behaved. After an hours wait my partner went to the bar to point this out, she was told by the bar staff that we had not been waiting that long! Not a good response to paying customers. (I have since seen the rudeness from staff as noted in another review). The food which was expensive, was not up to the standard the price indicated and could have been the Pubs saving grace! It looked relatively well presented but lacked in all other areas, the important ones! A real disappointment and one that will not be repeated or recommended to others. What a shame, it looked very promising.

Location is excellent in the centre of the lovely town of Bakewell, rooms are large, clean, nice bathroom, nice food and atmosphere.

Great pub. Excellent staff and a wonderful selection of beers. Love the fact that although they have Wi-Fi they encourage the clientele to talk to each other. Will return as soon as I'm back in Bakewell.

Visited the peacock whilst on holiday. Nice place to have an evening meal. Staff plesant and nice service. Food was great, generous portions and straight from the oven.

A great location for couples break. In the heart of Bakewell there is good food, well furnished and comfortable rooms for you to enjoy Derbyshire from.

Amazing stay for two nights. Beautiful room with stunning en-suite. All modern yet still using the original beams. Food was delicious with plenty to choose from. Great value for money.

Love this place, be patient for the good and you will be rewarded… Perfection takes time!

Called in for lunch today. Looked a nice place but my welcome was as cold as the day. I was on my way back from the toilet to go the bar and was told "if you want to use the toilet the public ones are outside! I then spoke to the bar staff to complain about the waitress and was told it was the LANDLADY who has been very rude to me. Needless to say We did not stay for lunch nor would I recommend this establishment.

Went for a family lunch yesterday and have to say it was the best club sandwich and chips I've ever eaten. My other half's steak sandwich was awesome too, there was so much food we couldn't finish it. Great setting and service and awesome food. Will definitely be returning.

Too dear but my God was it worth it to stumble upon the manager's rants on trip advisor in response to criticism. Customer service masterclass! And he takes the bait every time…

Before writing my article for a newspaper, I was advised to get a look behind the scenes at The Peacock in Bakewell. During my time there I couldn't help but notice how Graham, the landlord, appeared to get his kicks by repeatedly putting his staff down at every given opportunity instead of building them up. He would even go as far as to begrudge them a measly snack, let alone a sandwich, come 2-3 pm by which point they were running on empty. Projecting his nasty, critical nature onto others will not benefit him, or others, ever! It’s simply not good business practice. Has he considered the possibility that it would be far more effective to have a positive attitude toward his employees? No doubt a foreign concept to the likes of Scrooge; I mean, Graham. Of course, I shouldn't be surprised with his attitude toward his staff considering he has originated from the Gorbals of Glasgow, or so I presume!

10 pounds for two pints of cider. Staff was really abrupt when we got served really bad service.

Terrible. They actually forgot our order and offered no apology or compensation.

Excellent hearty pub food at a reasonable (for a touristy area) price. Portions are enough to fill up anyone and the service was nice and friendly.

Lovely pub, very friendly staff. Everything I've tried on the menu has been delicious. We have been coming up here from London for the last 15 years for holidays, the current owners have got it spot on. It's my favourite Bakewell pub.

We went on a really busy day. The staff were being rushed of their feet and the service was a bit slow. When it arrived the food was very good and huge portions. Recommended.

My family and I visited The Peacock on 4th June and although I had read about it on the Tripadvisor website I thought our experience was even better than described. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was the best food we have had in quite a while, not the cheapest but certainly the best and in my opinion, you get what you pay for. On the whole, a lovely experience and a hidden treasure in bakewell which we will certainly visit again.

Reading some of these reviews have made me laugh. For example: "Outsiders trying to run a town pub like a city pub very un friendly atmosphere" " very busy due to being Easter weekend however the place needs to remember that lots of customers equals lots of profit and isn't an excuse for poor service. " It sounds to me like some people are just complaining for the sake of it. Let's face it — who actually comes online to slag of an establishment. If you aren't happy just don't go back. Put your time to better use and take the stick out of your arse. It's a great pub with a fantastic atmosphere and has actually had better and more custom since the new owners have had it. Plus it's actually nice to have an establishment with a bit of spring in it's step and excitement in such a repetitive place for people who go often. Bakewell has been a one trick pony and been getting boring with the same old early morning market and duck feeding for years. Every pub in the area (as nice as they are) are filled with the same flat cap knock off nigels. I've been in them all on a pub run with mates. We stayed there for two days and the landlord and landlady made us feel very welcome. We had a great time with the Jukebox and can I reccomend the ploughman's lunch. Yes I can. To summarise. Stop complaining about how many chips you got in a bucket and enjoy your meal you mardy bums.

My wife and I lunched with you today. We were delighted with the speedy and polite service we received. The food was first class, steak and ale pie superb. A really pleasant and relaxing hour and the decor festive without being too ostentatious. Well done. Sorry landlord but I can't remember the web site you asked me to visit, I hope this will do just as well. Merry Christmas to you and your staff.
