Had a beautiful dinner here today, the beef brisket melted in your mouth, the vegetables were perfect and the gravy was the tastiest I’ve ever had! Beautiful mustard mash too! The Horse and Jockey are consistently good and the atmosphere is cosy and modern which is why we always return! Thank you!

Popped in for lunch today, the food was so tasty. A lovely salmon fish with a spicy tomato sauce and chopped potatoes. Staff all very friendly. Definitely recommend 👍

Great place to getaway and for great value.

Would not recommend at all. Wait nearly half hour to get seen to and seated wait about the same for drinks every time and the food well Jesus I’ve had better at Wetherspoons pure shite.

Lovely barman’s brunch, food was really nice and Dan was a lovely host, made sure everyone one was catered for, friendly guy.

First time I’ve been in here, lovely service and nice food, felt sorry for the bar lady she was on her own and it got really busy.

Went to bottomless brunch with my bestie Chloe! I had a briliant time and lots of cocktails which were amazing. Dan was absolutely perfect at making cocktails and they tasted amazingly. Thank you Dan 10/10 We will back soon love sophie and chloe xx.

First time in this establishment since it has been fabulously refurbished. Loved it💖 Had a gorgeous lunch and a few scoops, staff fantastic, atmosphere really kind and easy. So much so booked to stay here later on, thank you Xx.

Travelled quite away to come for a meal on recommendation, did not disappoint. lovely decor, very clean. Friendly staff. the food was delicious — had the butchers block roast. Huge portion size. Black forest sunday was lovely too. Will definitely return.

Barman’s buffet! Fantastic value for money… get Dan the man as your waiter! He took care of us from start to finish! Best barman, best brunch, amazing cocktails Xx.

Very good food although the salted caramel chocolate brownie lacked salted caramel and the sweet potato fries with the kids food turned into normal fries. But delicious none the less!

We ordered the Takeaway Christmas Dinner this year as we were originally booked in for a meal on Christmas Day. I was so impressed with our takeaway I was pleasantly surprised — although I’m always extremely happy with our food at the Horse & Jockey I don’t know why I expected anything less than perfect! Everything from delivery, presentation and packaging, to the customer service when contacted was top notch — not to mention the delicious food we received to reheat on Christmas Day. I didn’t need to spend hours in the kitchen prepping away from my family and the portion sizes were so generous at such a competitive price. I would absolutely recommend; and whilst I hope to be eating in the restaurant here this coming Christmas I would definitely order again!

Had a wonderful time, staff were all so friendly, place is stunning, room was gorgeous, food was delicious, already planning on coming back. If your after somewhere to get away from everyday life this place is it!

My husband and I have been for breakfast twice in the last few weeks, excellent service, lovely food and looked and smelt spotlessly clean everywhere, really impressed.

I have been to this pub for several occasions and I absolutely love the place. I have just had a takeaway roast dinner for myself and my family and I have got to say it was amazing! absolutely delicious. After speaking to them regarding the recent events they told me how they were delivering supplies to local vulnerable people in Wessington following the Covid 19 outbreak. Fantastic work guys very commendable! hopefully we can get another round of roast dinners next week! ♥️♥️♥️♥️

As a partner to The Hurt Arms in Ambergate which I don’t rate at all (poor service, strange layout) I wasn’t sure about this place. But how different! Same menu but service was excellent, lovely decor and good food too. Enjoyable evening. Worth a return.

Just had the pleasure of visiting the horse and jockey at wessington for the first time. Staff are very friendly, Alex on the bar in particular a real credit to the pub! Will be back very soon.

Staying here for two nights. Room is excellent as is the food and service. Would definitely come back. The meat pie last night was superb!

Lovely decor and nice atmosphere. Very average food, similar to a standard carvery, maybe slightly worse. Staff were friendly and welcoming if slightly too laid back.

Absolutely love this place! Great food, great drinks, lovely rooms and great prices. Have been a few times and never had a bad meal/ night. Bus stop outside that runs into matlock town for a couple of quid also if you wanted a day out.

Wow. I mean just wow. Talk about a hotel. This place has been totally refurbished from the ground up as of last January and has all mod cons you could desire thrown in. Swanky rooms, stunning breakfast, great atmosphere and wonderful service, such as we needed it. Only downside was we were travelling with a lot of expensive gear which we didn't want to leave in our vans so having to lug it all up two flights of stairs was a pain, but can't complain about that.

Lovely interior, good ambience and decoration. Newly built with a small outdoor children's play area — everything clean, tidy and new. They have air-conditioning for those hot days too… A long wait to get our order taken, and for the food to arrive… other than that it was a great afternoon! Staff were very helpful and friendly, being willing to redo an order for a special dietary restriction. Not cheap but good value nevertheless. Highly recommended.

A lovely local pub, always has a warm welcome and a nice choice of wines. Have eaten here about 3 times mostly in the bar at lunch times with friends and The food has been good wholesome food. The lunch menu is a little odd not really lightbites and no everyday sandwiches here, not like any other lunch menu but I can always find something I enjoy. The homemade sausage rolls are phenomenal and the Yorkshire puds on the sunday lunch are epic.

The chef very kindly offered to cook us breakfast even though we'd turned up after the serving times. Beautiful and fresh food. I had the blueberry pancakes.

Stayed at a nearby Caravan Touring Park, went here for afternoon food, the food & staff was perfect, so much, that we went back the following evening for food & drinks again, will also be taking up the Getaway deal in the near future, this is a 3 Course meal, 1 bottle of wine & Breakfast & room all for £125 per couple, per night.

Had a fab meal here for my dad's birthday recently. One meat eater, one veggie and two vegan all catered for brilliantly. Can't recommend this place highly enough to any vegans out there. Separate menu with lots of choice. Compliments to the chef and great service by all the staff. Thank you. We will definitely be back.

Stayed their for the night the room spotless the evening meal and wine was super and very filling then had a good night's sleep. Staff couldnt do enough for you and so friendly there a credit to the pub… all this and a large breakfast for 99 pounds… ju.

We have just spent the night here. We arrived at about 2.30 in the afternoon, had a few beers & a sandwich, which was very good, they had my favourite beer on tap. Bud & many other lagers to choose fro. The football was on which was an added bonus. We went to our room which was large & airy, immaculately clean, decent bathroom fittings, large shower & a corner basket that was big enough to put shampoo & conditioner in without it falling out. The bar area was lovely & you could see a lot more f thought had been put in to this pub, the decor was modern & light, the toilets immaculate, more thought with hooks on the back of the toilet doors for handbags & coats, rather than a n the floor. The staff were all fairly young but very polite & helpful. The big fight was on the TV & the pub was full. I feel the only thing that let it down was the meal we had, £25 for a steak that was over cooked & quite thin, though the breakfast was very nice. Overall a very enjoyable stay, would definitely stay here again.

What a great pub and restaurant. Modern contemporary design with a great traditional bar. The restaurant has a great menu,, service was good from friendly helpful staff. I can highly recommend.

We have just called in for an evening meal, the welcome and service from Leon was simply the best, all staff so young but all seem well mannered and polite, food to die for and again nothing was too much trouble, triple chocolate brownie that was the best we’ve ever eaten, how nice to find a place that is so tastefully renovated, selling good wholesome food and variety, Please Keep up the good work xxxx

Nice food, good staff and good choice of beers. Welcoming pub with atmosphere.

Just returned after a couple of nights stay. The rooms are very good, clean, airy and fairly comfortable. I say fairly, as I do think they ought to put a couple of easy (bucket) chairs and a small table in the rooms. Wanting to watch TV was not a good experience sitting on a tiny stool or on the bed (Bad backs! ) Room service is offered, so eating that would be very difficult.
The bathroom could have done with a couple of hooks for clothes or washbag, but everthing was so up-to-date we have taken away ideas for when we revamp ours :)
Ate two breakfasts, one evening meal and a snakette. All were very very acceptable. Hot and tasty.
Also loved the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. Nothing was too much and they were all very cheerful.
So hope the event we attended happens again next year as we would not hesitate to book again.

Went for Sunday lunch, not a great experience. I think being put in a corner didn't help as we were left without service for quite some time. Lamb was very tough but getting attention of waiter was almost impossible. Eventually sorted but by then one meal was cold. Opted for dessert and coffee. Problem was sorted out and money off the bill was offered. Still a bit of a shame though.

This was our 1st visit to this lovely little pub. We were shown to our table within a minute of our arrival our drinks order was taken and bought to our table. Within the next 5 minutes we ordered our food which swiftly arrived. The service and quality of the food was by far the best Sunday Roast we have had the Beef was just perfect. They have very attentive staff who are not overbearing. The pub inside is very clean with ample parking. All in all this pub is well worth a visit. Thanks for a very nice eating experience. Will definitely return.

Extremely limited menu when we arrived. Opted for the Christmas lunch menu. Turkey & pigs in blankets — turkey was very dry & not enough gravy + I think the chef forgot how to count as only one pig in blanket came on the plate — massive disappointment as I was looking forward to them. Staff informed. Beautifully renovated, great on the outside but once we was in it went downhill.

Went today for my 45th birthday, the service and meal was fantastic, the place has a lovely relaxed feel to it, I will be going again thats for sure. P. S try the beef and stilton pie, its beautiful and all food is home cooked.

Food fair service not very good between main and dessert I think they forgot about us the dessert was lovely the pub is full of character good for two or a crowd of people.

Lovely meal, restaurant can get very noisey as roof is low so you can barely hear each other speak. Last time we visited I did ask for a table in a quieter area, we were given this but then they brought a very loud party of 6 people to sit next to us so this ruined the night as we couldn't hear each other speak and ended up having to shout to each other all night. Food and service were excellent but food not as hot as it normally is.

Myself and my husband stayed over last night arrived just after 2pm had a 2 course meal for £12.50 from the lunch menu and we honestly couldn't fault it the plum dessert was to die for the staff are all young but very friendly and professional the room we had was large and very clean with a really large bed we will definitely return and would recommend it.

Parents and sister stayed at the hotel. Clean comfortable and good breakfast. We joined them for an evening meal, plenty of choice and about the right price for what you get. No complaints and would recommend.

Superb Breakfast! Open to non-residents too, the breakfasts (and there's lots of options to suit all tastes) are not only freshly-cooked and delicious, but also superb value for money. Highly recommended.

Very well renovated place. The room was huge, bed was king-size and very comfortable. Brilliant place. Only downside, bar adds a 50p charge to card transactions under a tenner. It's 2017, the days of penalising card users should be over.

Very good food. New build. Nice local walks round the pub. Room is very big and well set out. Has bath and shower. Very nice and cheapest rate we found in the area. Very impressed.

Stayed here one night during a UK road trip. Staff was incredibly friendly and customer service that was unbeatable. Dinner was reasonably priced and FANTASTIC. Best scotch egg. Breakfast was just as good. Room was clean and comfortable. Cannot recommend this enough.

Popped in for quick dinner with 2 kids, good staff, very nice burgers, kids happy!, only comment lovely place watched being re build, what is with the patio furniture assume this is going to be replaced? Did you find at anothet pub or tip? Sorry let's whole place down get some lovely chairs, tables will be there every week in their summer evenings until will be coming when it's raining.

Impressed, lovely comfy but extremely smart modern rooms, staff were extremely friendly and efficient. We were a table of ten and food was brought out together and was very nice and well presented. Lovely we will be coming back.

Went on a Friday evening, early booking. First time we've visited place was rebuilt. I had steak and my wife had gnocchi. The steak was ok, some chewy fatty bits that I couldn't eat. My wife's gnocchi was served with peas, which is a first. And a last. The chips we had were good, the salad uninspiring and not particularly good. Service was reasonable, until we wanted to pay. Lots of young staff doing their best, but there wasn't any personal touch. And that's the biggest issue I have with the place. It's got all the right ingredients, looks nice, contemporary, clean, but somehow it doesn't work. The place lacks atmosphere, character. It feels like it should be a pub in somewhere like Centre Parcs. Like it's going to cater for 400 people a night, and they want you in and out. We didn't feel unwelcome. We just didn't feel anything at all. And ideally we like to feel special, and eat special. This for us did neither.

Stayed for a night at the horse and jockey rooms are beautiful very fresh and clean, food is just beautiful, had a 3 coarse meal and bottle wine in the stay a night deal and was absolutely beautiful, breakfast was delicious lots of variety, as well as a full English again beautiful staff very friendly and very organised thank you for a wonderful stay highly recommended will come again.
