Fantastic meal, excellent service, beautiful place. Could not find a fault with any of it. We will definitely be returning. We will also be trying gilpin spice. Wonderful.

I treated my boyfriend for his 21st birthday a trip to the gilpin and we stayed in the spa lodge. This is the first time I have been to the gilpin and we had an absolutely amazing time. We couldn't of asked for anything more perfect to spend his 21st birthday. The lodge, food, staff, everything was just perfect. We will definitely be back to the gilpin and recommend it to our friends. Absolutely incredible! Thanks again!

Great restaurant and exceptional Asian food — beautifully presented and lovely tasting. Don't go there thinking Indian takeaway, it's miles above that!

Fantastic hotel My wife and I visited for our 25th wedding anniversary. Had a fabulous time ate in the evening at hrishi restaurant which is Michelin starred. The food was very very good.

Had the tasting menu at Hrishi which was fantastic. Very inventive, varied and well executed dishes. Even the bread and butter was memorable! Possibly the best of the few michelin star restaurants we've visited.

Great country house transformed in an extremely comfortable resort. Spacious and well decorated guest rooms and welcoming common spaces. Very good service which pampers the guests.

Gilpin Spice is a good concept with pretty good food. Staff are ok, if a little standoffish. Reasonably priced.

We stayed at Gilpin Hotel for 4 days over New Year 2017, this hotel is perfection, our room is idyllic, the food is outstanding and the staff of this family run establishment impeccable, highly recommended, and we will be booking for 2018.

Just spent a fantastic couple of nights in a private spa lodge and we can't wait to return. Exceptional accommodation in a beautiful location, looked after by professional and engaging staff, and with a Michelin chef on site the food at both restaurants was superb (recommend Spice's sofa seating).

We were really impressed with the quality of the service. We had a meal in the Michelin star restaurant which was excellent, but even better than the food was the quality of the wine selection that went with it. Our room was also fantastic and we really enjoyed our private outdoor area with a hot tub!

Booked Afternoon Tea for hubby's birthday. Made us feel special great service, excellent staff, food fresh 10 out of 10. Would recommend.

I don't understand a single bad review for this place! Everything about our stay here was perfect. The lodges are beautiful, tranquil with a lovely view, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, large shower and large bath. The hotel staff are wonderful, friendly, happy and just cannot do enough for you — you only have to ask. The staff are not arrogant or snobby, they are simply professional, leaving the decision on how friendly to be to you. Smile and talk to them and you will see them open up! Everybody was lovely. The food in the restaurant is just divine, we had the tasting menu with matching wines and did not have a single bad dish. It was stunning in looks and taste. I could easily have stayed much longer than a long weekend, our stay was out of this world.

Service, service, service… oh, and the food. Gilpin absolutely nails it on both fronts. Other hotels might match the quality of the decor and rooms but very few can match the quality of Gilpin's people. Personable, knowledgeable and clearly proud of the stunning hotel they run. Throw in some exquisite fine dining and you're in a lake land paradise.

We stayed at the Lake House in Ethel. Room was small, but cozy. No view from the bed. The Jetty Spa Trail was decent, though I think the description on the website was a bit misleading. The salt snug is just a sauna and the salt scrub just a bowl of salt in the pool bathroom. There wasn't a woodland trail, unless you count a few straggly trees along a walkway — certainly nothing like the photo. We also weren't fleece-lined wellies, just flip flops. Still, it was a pleasant experience. The tasting menu dinner was amazing! Sandwiches at lunch disappointing. Staff were very friendly throughout. We'd go back.

Wow. This place is amazing, from the food to the setting (the lake house is breathtaking) we weren't disappointed. There were a couple of things which seemed a bit odd and I'll list them here only as constructive criticism because everything else was great and if these things were fixed then we wouldn't have been able to find fault at all. Firstly the sonos system in the room is controlled with a kindle fire, which is fine, but someone made the decision to save some money and get the ad supported version of the tablet which displays a massive advert everytime you use the tablet which does nothing to add to the relaxation. Secondly there's a limit on Internet data before you have to pay which when already paying £600 per night feels like rip off. There was a lengthy on boarding for the spa rooms, I'd have appreciated it to be written down rather than expect me to have to remember it all as soon as I turned up. We stayed in Birdoswald and felt that we didn't have much privacy in the bathroom or shower as a tall person walking in to the next Hut could easily see in. This was actually a bit stressful when I wanted to just have a relaxing bath.

No children allowed! It's a great disappointment as they boast about being a friendly and family run hotel! A real shame!

I've been this hotel almost 20 years ago. Actually, I have not been able to find a hotel in which I could enjoy myself better than this supreme hotel.

This is a great hotel for couples. Very relaxing and in a beautiful setting. The staff are very friendly, the breakfast is superb (be sure not to miss this! ), and the rooms very comfortable. Had a wonderful stay.

We had the most wonderful lunch at the Gilpin today. The staff were fantastic, courteous and accommodating. We picked between different menus and spent 3 hours having the most relaxed and delicious lunch in the garden dining room, watching the birds (including a large hen pheasant! ) come to the bird feeders amidst the snow flurries. Every detail was just right, the flavours were marvellous and my mum was fussed over just enough to make her birthday lunch special. Afterwards we retired to the lounge and sat in front of the fire while we had petit fours and coffee. Perfect! And really excellent value given the quality of the food and the attention to detail. A priceless experience, well done.
