Lovely pub, very friendly staff and excellent food, good value for money.

The food is excellent especially the chips and iam not a chip person. Also friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere can’t recommend it enough.

Absolutely appalling service having pre booked from the festive menu for nine. They missed the two kids meals, so kids had to wait for there meal. We had to ask several times for condiments straws etc. As a positive they did not charge for the kids meals. I will definitely not be returning.

Me & my husband had the 2 course lunch today, I had the sweet chilli tiger prawns to start & they were amazing! Wow! Main courses were lovely too, friendly staff & good service.

My tuna Salad wasn’t particularly good, and a few of the things on the menu weren’t available, however other people in the party were more than happy with their food, although the service was very slow xx.

Not bad but service was very slow and I did hear lots of people complaining about their food. The food we ordered was OK but not fantastic. Staff are friendly and polite.

Lovely carvery. Tender slices of thickly cut beef, just melted in the mouth. Tasty, nicely cooked veg with a good selection. Would recommend.

Visited today and great food as usual but very dissapointed that the £7.95 senior citizens menu has been replaced by an early bird menu with a poor choice of mains. To get my favourite chicken in peppercorn sauce I had to pay £10.95 from the main menu. Also the vegetables were not served at the table with the meal and had to be collected from the carvery which meant standing in a cue. Not what you expect when ordering from a main menu. Won't put me off returning.

Used to be great, no longer so. Extremely expensive drinks and poor staff. Customer service is non existent.

Called in today for lunch and had the carvery. The lady behind the bar said she would bring our drinks over while we went for the carvery. We waited nearly ten minutes as there was no-one manning it before we were served with the meat. The yorkshire puddings were like bell metal, the person who had served us had disappeared straight back into the kitchen. There was no gravy left and nobody around to ask for some. On returning to our table the drinks had not arrived so my husband had to go to fetch them. Just to make things worse we were overcharged on paying for the meals and drinks at the bar. The correct amount was on the receipt but then the bar lady transposed the figures and overcharged us on our card by £4.40. What is going on? Had we not asked for a copy of the receipts we would probably not have realised what had happened.

First visit. Meal was superb, all 4 of us agreed with this. Staff were lovely but music was too loud for me. Saying that, when I asked staff why it was so loud she apologised and turned it down. Will definitely go back there.

Booked on line, +phoned before to check was double room and told yes. Arrived to be given twin room, little things need addressing before giving better rating. Breakfast was better than the room,

This is the place where I had Fish and chips for the first time. I thought it would be oily but for my surprise it tasted really good. The service was excellent and the waiting time reasonable. The place is nice, I can say it has a very romantic vibe, the music selection great as well. Clean restrooms and good parking space.

Had the chicken curry which was made with coconut milk, when I explained I don't eat coconut they said as it was made fresh they would use cream instead — it was lovely.

The food was lovely (had the carvery). Staff were pleasant and friendly. Visited at a busy time so service was a little slower than hoped but to be expected.

Not to be recommended. Food below standard, Gordon Ramsay would have a field day! Chicken fajitas with no chicken, crispy wraps, cheese stood around too long, limp lettuce instead of salsa. No salmon kitchen finished early. Chips fried too often, black and glassy and no onions with the steak, described in the menu. Chicken with basis was lovely.

Very enjoyable visit. Staff were excellent. Polite and helpful. Service was good and food excellent. Good choice on menu plus carvery. All in all a very good experience. Highly recommend and will certainly visit again …

Have a small appetite but was allowed to order from children's menu, had fish Goujons with chips and salad. Fish was beautiful, fresh white fish with amazing light battery. Family had carvery, meats were lean and tender. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone. worth traveling for.

Family organised a birthday meal for my husband, First time for carvery food was excellent. When bringing out birthday cake the staff sang happy birthday and gave a complimentary birthday drink to my husband. Made the meal very special. 10 out of ten for staff and service.

Family of 5 visited tonight we all enjoyed our meals. Can highly recommended the carvery, ample portions, meat was lovely and tender, vegetables fresh with lots of choice. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Definitely will be back.

The food is always lovely at the Kings Head. Good portions & great service & good value prices as well. The carvery was beautiful & their steak pie is to die for Lovely place, would strongly recommend to try it if you haven't been before.

Hate leaving bad reviews but leave one I must!
Tonight in the kings head was diabolical from the rude manager to the grumpy waiting staff the burnt food that we waited forever for and the bad attitudes floating around it made for a total washout of a night.
Was a regular not now sort yourselves out kings head.

I had the fish cakes and steak pie. Home made and totally delicious, the best steak pie I have ever tasted! Friendly helpful staff, great deals and lovely food. Thank you, we will come back.

This must be the most inconsistent pub ever! The food is either nice or just about OK. Today I had to return my desert because the custard was luke warm and the crumble cold. When it was returned yes it was warmer but was the exact same desert only the crumble had been turned upside down and there was definitely no blackberry in it as advertised. To top things off we tried to use our discount voucher which we received from dining on Christmas Day only for it to be rejected. Now we were well aware the envelope stated Monday to Friday however when we dined there on Saturday 13th January spending a respectable £100 others were using their vouchers and they were accepted! On explaining this we were met with complete disinterest. I’m afraid having been regulars of this establishment for quite some time, the inconsistency and poor customer care means we will not be returning and we certainly won’t be recommending the place either.

Gorgeous pub lovely staff and service but came in for full breakfast 7.95 way too much, it was nice average portion but certainly not worth 7.95. Won't b back only due to the price and my two stars where also based on the price only.

We lived in Lanchester for 5 years until April 2017 had never been in The Kings Head until today, we had friends visiting from Preston and we decided to take them for lunch, we were greeted by very friendly and welcoming staff, we ordered our food and we didn't wait very long to be served, the food was excellent, we will certainly be returning. We would certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice warm friendly place to eat.

We had booked our Christmas meal out at the Kings Head so there was a group of 20. We were sat down straight away and the manager came over and introduced himself and the other serving staff that would be taking care of us, which was a really nice touch. The food arrived promptly and it was fantastic, the portions were really big, there was also extra vegetables and gravy available. As well as the excellent food the staff were all really friendly and helpful and we will definitely be going back. The pub is situated right in the Middle of Lanchester on the main road from Consett to Durham, it has a large car park to the rear and has a ramp for wheelchair access at the front entrance.

Food excellent, very friendly service, breakfast waitress pleasant and helpful, The Kings Head well situated for Beamish etc. Definitely recommend Kings Head.

Very warm welcome to a lovely pub. Food was excellent and plenty of it. Excellent value for money.

We love staying here. If the shower cubicles were deep cleaned or replaced it would be perfect.

Clean and modern, food was very night but dessert was lacking any sort of sauce (sticky toffee). Music was almost dead couldn't hear much.

Great place. Lots of space inside and amp car parking Staff were fantastic to deal work and simply nothing would be a problem they could not help sort for you We had a small funeral Wake party recently and we're so happy with the service we received highly recommend the place!

Great local pub with good hearty food. Perfect for a meal out with the family or a date with the other half. I've never had a bad meal yet :) Will definitely be back at some point. Lanchester is a great location too so get yourself for a walk around the country village after you've stuffed yourself full.

We had a superb two course special for 9.95 each. Everything from the friendly, helpful service to the huge portions of tasty food was amazing. Haven't eaten here for years after it went downhill with a previous owner but would not hesitate to recommend The King's Head to family and friends. Husband even said it was the best sweet chilli chicken he'd ever tasted! Can't wait to return.

Really great place for a meal with big portions! Also told them on the phone that we were celebrating a graduation and they gave us a free bottle of bubbly which was a kind gesture. I would definitely recommend it if you're in the durham area.

The kings head at lanchester. We went for breakfast after a night shift. 7.30am the doors were opened we were greated by a lady who promptly sat us and brought coffee and oj. The breakfast and coffee was brought in good time and our meeting was left to be confidential. Lovely place and thefood was great.

3 of us went for a Sunday lunch. We waited 50 mins for our meal. When it arrived my veg was raw I mean rock hard unpeeled huge carrots. I sent them back. My son's meal arrived without veg at all, when I asked if the veg was coming they said I don't know. It never arrived. The second bowl of veg for my meal arrived it too was raw. The third time they served it, it had been placed in a microwave and was disgusting. My Yorkshire pudding was freezing cold. When I complained I said I wanted a fresh meal bringing out I was told I may have to wait another 50 minutes. I honestly don't think I have had a worse experience anywhere. The other customers sitting near us were telling us never order the dinners, they are terrible. I'm afraid I have to agree. They try to cram so many customers in then they can't cope. Absolutely dreadful. They don't even deserve the one star I have given but the waitress who served us did. Do yourself a favour, go elsewhere.

The first time my wife and myself had food and drinks was last Wednesday could not of been better but this Wednesday puir rubbish main meal s where cold chips half cooked wine was warm staff are very good but! I think it was not the same cook! Not chef? They wouldn't give any refund at all! After paying a lot of £s l asked for the food l had left but said it was in the bin?! My advice don't go near and I hope that people take notice spend less at wetherspoons and better food and drink!

Booked a table for Saturday lunch, all of the meals were excellent, lovely bright restaurant area and the staff were friendly and polite and couldn't do enough for you. A really lovely comfortable place and well recommended. Thank you very much.

Just been along for Sunday lunch. The doors don't open until 12-00pm by this time there's quite a crowd ready to go inside. We waited quite a long time for someone to come, the waitress said there was Pork, Turkey and lamb on the menu, we had to ask "was there no beef" she came back and said yes, then went away without taking our order. The next girl that came with the menus wouldn't take the order she said "Adam" was coming round for the orders and would go to the people in order that they came in. Seeing as we were 2nd to go in, we thought 20 minutes was a long time to wait for someone to take the order. Everyone on our table thought the service was poor. Perhaps if they opened the doors earlier then everyone wouldn't be coming in at the same time. Food was very nice but the service let them down a lot.

Very upset and disappointed to see that The Kings Head in Lanchester were host of the Braes of Derwent Illegal Fox Hunting (26/12/14)! You should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing this to happen 10 years after the Hunting Ban.

Never written a review before but staying here was a pleasure. The staff went out of their way to help, the food was lovely, the room was clean and comfortable and the service was top notch. I will recommend it to anyone staying in the area and next time I visit Durham on business it will be the first accommodation I check out. Five stars.

Good pub atmosphere, plenty of tables but they are usually busy, so its a good idea to book. The new chef seems to be very good, the staff are friendly and the service is usually good. Check out the menu because there's something special on most nights. The beer is good too.

Very reasonably priced hotel/pub with very comfortable rooms and friendly staff. The bar food is wide in choice and very well prepared. The service, especially at breakfast, was personal, but unobtrusive. Impressed by the chef asking personally at breakfast what we would like, and preparing to order. Excellent value for money and highly recommended.

Went to this establishment for a week day luncheon. The restaurant was not especially busy, on arrival the food was acceptable. However we had to wait 20 minutes for the waitress to take our order only to find what I chose wasn't available. On choosing another dish we then had to wait an hour before our food arrived. We shall not be returning to this establishment and have advised others to give it a wide berth. Slovenly service all round.

We went to the lanchester kings head for a drink and bite to eat. The price for a pints was 2.90 which is normal in places that sell food. The meals were reasonably priced at 2 courses for £9 which was the early bird price or 3 courses for £13. We went for wedges for the mrs and wedges with black pudding over brandy sauce which was very nice. For mains the mrs had scampi and chips and I had mixed grill with chips, onion rings and veg which I enjoyed but could not eat it all. For dessert I had golden syrup with cream which was enjoyable but very small. All in all well worth the visit.
