Strands Hotel/Screes Inn & Micro Brewery Hotel

On a very wet date we were made most welcome. Brilliant Gammon and chips, lamp chops and steak pie. Great beer too — had to take a few bottles home to sample a wider range of the brews on offer.

Great pub in a fantastic area. Good food and a wide selection of ales brewed on the premises.

A group of 13 of us recently stayed at the Strands Inn for an overnight stay. We had a 6 hour mini bus journey to the lakes and had climbed Scafell Pike so we were all feeling quite worn out when we arrived. The staff and owners were friendly. Welcomed us and told us where each of our rooms were. I had a twin room which was small and basic but had everything you needed. No need for fancy things when you're at the Lakes as you're spending all your time outside. The bathroom was nice but only had a shower, no bath which was a shame but not a big deal really. We had a table reserved for dinner. The food was excellent and served quickly. Lots of drinks available. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was also very good. There were cereals, toast, fruit and cooked breakfast, as well as a vegetarian option. The hotel is in a great location with beautiful views and only a short car trip from Scafell Pike. I would certainly return again when in the area.

Excellent selection of beers brewed on site, along with quality draught ales. We had booked in advance for after a long walk so the great selection of food on the menu was very welcome. Good quality roast and local tattie pot. Unfortunately the steak wasn't of the best quality but it was only a minor downside to a good meal. Would certainly visit again, really friendly and hardworking staff, even if they were a little fragile after a long bank holiday weekend!

A beautifully located hotel, pub and micro brewery. Food is beautiful and locally sourced. Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.

Visited on a Saturday evening when they were very busy. The place was booked out, but as I was on my own, hungry, and they had reserved tables awaiting other guests to be ready, they were really accommodating and sneaked me in. Great meal (Steak and ale pie, which was massive), just right after a hard day's fell walking. Selection of beers very good, and locally brewed. The Inn has a main bar and at least four other rooms of various sizes. It is twinned with the Screes across the road. When I was there, no Wi-Fi as someone had been messing with their music system through it. Hope they get it fixed soon. In all a great pub, with the opportunity to meet local celebrity on Sunday…

Staff very rude. Made you feel totally rushed even though it was very quiet. It was like they were trying to get rid of you asking you to order before you had time to look at the menu. Mumbling about how busy they were. Turning locals away saying they were too busy even though just about every table was empty. No drinks would be served at to the table while you had your meal. You had to go to the bar. Made to feel totally un welcome. Spoilt our night.

Absolutely can't fault the Strand! Amazing food and wonderful atmosphere. Friendly, welcoming with very prompt service in a beautiful setting. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I will most definitely be returning soon!

Great old stlye country pub very tidy and clean. Friendly staff and good service. Good value for money.

Delightful Inn with friendly staff and delicious food. Room was cosy and warm on one of the coldest nights of the year and the breakfast was very substantial with lots of choice.

A warm friendly well orginiased pub and resutrant… The staff a super lovely a d the food was just fantastic … the breakfast was great the service was remarkable. A truly one of a kind b and b with the heart of home … The rooms are rooms nothing fancy the beds are warm well presnted… but if your worried about that then your in the wrong neck of the woods :-) The prices are reasonable and drinks too… The views are breathtaking as the clouds roll over the mountains early morning… Plenty of seats and plenty of drinks from the bar to choose from … If you want the Ritz head to London it you want good honest value and a smile and warm welcome the above says it all…

Stayed for three nights recently and loved it. Rooms perfectly comfortable, suitably equipped, with a good shower and a hearty breakfast to boot. Micro Brewery next door so no shortage of a decent pint after a day on the fells also a fine collection of whiskeys and gins. Staff friendly and accommodating. We ate in house each evening (table is booked for you as a resident) plenty of choice, good portions and piping hot.

First visit on a Sunday here and we opted for the Sunday roasts. There was a really good selection of veggie but the meat itself was nothing special (it is not a carvery) Having ordered lamb one of our party was given beef and when questioned the waiter claimed it was actually lamb. We were disappointed that despite it being a lovely sunny September day we were not allowed to eat in the garden and were told their were not enough staff to clear up. Our other visits here have been much better maybe taking over the Screes pub opposite has stretched them too far?

Lovely local pub with an excellent range of locally made ales, serves a good range of hearty pub grub at very reasonable prices. Muddy dogs welcome. Well worth a visit.

A lovely place to stay. Handy for climbing scafell. They will automatically book you a table for evening meal, which is good as they get busy and there is nothing else for miles. The food is good with generous portions. A good veģatarian selection for the veggies! prices for a meal are about £9 — £15. A good cooked breakfast for guests.

Service was good and greatly enjoyed the location. The microbrews were great.

Fantastic stay at The Strands Inn. The room was cosy and clean. The pub is beautiful and the staff were friendly and fun. We came as a group of lads to go hiking and although most of the other customers staying were couples (I will go back with my wife 100%) we were made to feel welcome! The locals at the bar are also very friendly and were very happy to give advice on good hikes! On a final note the pub also doubles up as a microbrewery and so all the hand pull beers are home made and fantastic! I litrally tried every one of them. We also had the pleasure of eating here every night. The food is fantastic and all appears to be home made! The breakfast provided in the morning was amazing, and they also did us a great pack lunch for our hike! Great place all round!

Found this pub by chance and so glad we did. Excellent meal, shame we live so far away from it.
