This is a lovely hotel with such character. The surroundings are absolutely stunning and the staff friendly and helpful. There is a lift in the hotel and plenty of parking. Highly recommended.
I really wanted to love this place, I really did. We went for Sunday carvery since our local was heaving and we have heard good things about this place. The location is amazing, tucked away in a valley you can almost feel the history of this place to life. It's a shame the 70s couldn't have left this place alone, the art deco look is nice but against the 70s refurbishments it does look a bit dated in places. Getting into the carvery it's self feels more like passing through airport security, I have expected to see an x-ray machine at one of the many steps we had to go through to eat. The food it's self was, good, not great but good and since starters and pudding was included the value is okay, My main gripe with the carvery (and in fairness it's not exclusive to this place) is the guarding of the Yorkshire puddings, "would you like a Yorkshire? ", "No, I want three, in fact just give me a second plate filled with them". Apparently Yorkshire puddings are so valuable should more than the one per person rule be broken the whole place would be bankrupted. With exception of the carvery chef I think the majority of the staff have been recently lobotomized, they stand to attention at the sides but when you need some help they seem unwilling or just ignorant to the fact. My son spilled a glass of coke and despite there being over 10 members of staff standing around (not exaggerating) I had to get up to ask for assistance.

Room was clean but a little run down. The room smelt musky and old which wasn't pleasant. First night was freezing cold but the second night was fine. Breakfast was good although the tables weren't all clean when we looked for somewhere to sit. Overall, an ok stay.
