Don’t stay here if you like sleep. Every floor board creaks and the walls are paper thin. We booked 7 rooms. The beds in 5 of the rooms were extremely uncomfortable (the other 2 had kids in them and they said they were comfortable… the adults got no sleep though). The staff were lovely and a fan was provided which was a great (and necessary touch especially on the top floors) the windows opened wide which is unusual these days! If you are around 6ft or overweight you won’t fit easily in the bathroom or the shower, the room is just not suitable for big people. Unfortunately I wouldn’t stay here again.

Good, relaxed, simple. Walkable to the city. Didn’t have breakfast but it looked good. Not a massive room for us (but we didn’t need it) — had real coffee / tea/ got extra milk from the cafe downstairs. Would stay there again.

I have stayed here on a number of times on my return visit to my home city. It is good value and in an outstanding area of Bristol. The centre of the city is a short but steep walk down the historic Park Street. Clifton is in the other direction, but a similar walk and has a range of great attractions, suspension bridge and zoo. There is a fee (small) car park but free for motor cyclists like myself. Street parking overnight is possible. I will book again on my return to Bristol.

I seriously can't even give this hotel 1 star. I was seriously disappointed by the state of the room, it was a long journey after travelling from Yorkshire. I got to the hotel at 10pm only to leave the next morning as I had a busy day ahead in Bristol. I walked into the room to find that the toilet had poo stains on it and the cockery had brown stains on them. I couldn't use the shower as it was dirty and the carpets were very old. The room had a stuffy, musty smell about it. I left a complaint slip as I was shocked that they would expect a guest to sleep in such a state. In all that's said, I know for a fact that I will never be going back there again! Its not all it seems from the pictures trust me.

Good hotel for English standards, with pub and restaurant. One 20min walk from the bus station and the centre of Bristol. On weekends It is a bustling area and there may be some noise, but with the English schedules (at closed 23horas) It is not annoying for rest. They leave fruit, biscuits and tea/coffee with what you can have breakfast in the room.

Cheap rooms, but clean and a good shower and comfy bed. 24 hour reception is great. Tiny rooms, but the price is also tiny too. Very happy.

Small rooms, but excellent, friendly service and a tasty breakfast. Everything you need for a pleasant overnight stay. Good location.

Really comfortable beds, really nice staff, free Wi-Fi, close to the city centre. What's not to love about this place?

Good hotel. Parking available. Short walk into Clifton and from there to Bristol city centre. Hotel facilities were fine. Our second stay. Easy to find. Walking distance to the suspension bridge and Bristol dockside.

The staff where amazing towards me a s my friend on our visit. Was close to the O2 like we wanted and we paid a good price for the stay. I also liked the bar being at the bottom of the hotel which was handy. However there was a few faults, like our room was not serviced on arrival. We where given a complimentary drink at the bar for this. The shower took a good 10 minutes to warn up. And the beds just where not very comfortable. Would I stay again? Yes if I was going to the o2 again as it was within walking distance.

Very good welcome; facilities excellent and food in restaurant was brilliant. Left 1st ar off because of very poor parking but otherwise a really good stay.

I gave 5 stars for the staff, they were really helpful and friendly, the room was very clean but quite dated but it was just somewhere to put your head for a night.

I arrived on a Saturday after about 30 hours of airplane travel, exhausted and needing a comfortable room and some good sleep. I was staying at the Clifton through Monday, when I was to move into my new apartment. I unfortunately had a terrible time, and I will try to outline why. The room (executive double) was tiny and cluttered. When I arrived in the room, I immediately noticed dirt, grime, and general uncleanliness. The desk was covered with a layer of dust, towels were crimpled on the floor (thinking about it now, they might never have been replaced from the last guest), the bin in the bathroom actually had trash in it! There were stains on the walls and celing. Three matresses were being stored in one of the hallways. Everything was outdated, there was a smell of deep fried something in the hall, and dirt and general mess everywhere. Exhausted I showered and went out to eat, before I got ready for bed. The walls started shaking with a terrible bass. There was a party somewhere in the building, and the noise was so loud it penetrated even through my earplugs. I called the reception, and yes, they could confirm there was indeed a party downstairs until midnight. They said they had emailed me to ask if I wanted to a quieter room (I had received one email from them, but it only had check-in information, and when I said so, they just said they were sorry). All I could do was laugh. Why would anyone want a room in the middle of a loud party?

The hotel was generally very pleasant. A warm welcome from friendly staff. There are a few aspects that weren't great but can't be improved due to the nature of the old building; narrow corridors, creaky stairs and floorboards, original windows that are drafty and not sound proof. The room was very clean and decor was quite modern. A good selection of teas, coffee and biscuits. A complimentary bottle of water might be nice but not essential. The bed was very comfy although a blanket instead of duvet is not my preference, blankets seem old fashioned to me and I hate the feel of them but I sleep pretty well. The bathroom was clean although very small. There was no temperature control so the bathroom was incredibly hot. The shower head was very poor and had a very narrow head so very concentrated jet. The pressure and temperature were fine but a wider head would make it much nicer. The light built into the morrow would not turn off so had to keep the door shut so it didn't keep me awake. My biggest issue with hotels is when there is no plug socket near the bed / bedside table. I'm sure most people are like me and wish to charge their phone overnight and use it for an alarm where they don't want it on the opposite side of the room. This really annoys me these days. Breakfast was good. Very nice quality and variety. Once again the service was good with friendly staff.

The location is great. Not too far from the Clifton shops and restaurants and also in close proximity to the famous Bristol bridge. Room was very cozy and clean. Service was great too. I would definitely chose this hotel again if I wanted to go to Bristol.

Single room small but perfectly formed! Complimentary fruit and ground coffee in the room. Clean and comfortable if a little cramped.

Good price and location close to university. Both room and bathroom were a bit small, but for one night provided all I needed, so no complaints. Did its job as expected! Friendly staff, and a nice pub downstairs!

Staff was very polite and professional, hotel was clean, overall good experience. My stay was 1 night for work. The pub downstairs is also excellent with a good selection of beer and food.

Given a terrible cold room, no power points worked so had to go to another room on a different floor to dry our hair. Staff unhelpful. Never would use again.

Good price. Friendly staff. Only thing wos interesting shower experience (not wot ya think! ). Ending up standing in four inches of water. Forgot to say as well maybe drain wos blocked!

Good room, polite staff. The water in my room lost heat on the second day, there was no hot water at all. Took a long time for this to be rectified so I had to forgo a shower. My room on the top floor was a good single, not really made for tall people as the ceiling slopes.

A lovely friendly hotel. I stayed in a spacious single room with all the amenities necessary to make for a pleasant stay. The hotel is in walking distance to shops and eateries. Car parking in a separate location thatay be a little hard to find at night.

Can't fault the basic feel for the price. Clean and welcoming. 20 mins walk to town.

I visited the Racks wine bar and watched the England v Wales rugby game. The beer was good. I particularly recommend the "Proper Job"

Well laid out, very lively bar. Great views across to Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Severn. Good selection of craft ales etc.

Drinks were London prices (£15.10 for 3 pints) and place was crowded with not a lot of seats and poor selection of beers. Good atmosphere though and very friendly staff, maybe better on a night where it's not hired out.

Room was clean but not very modern (long time since its last renovated). The staff were friendly and there is a good bar/restaurant next door.

Great service, loads of rooms handled well and the evening at Racks was also great. Very small rooms, not a problem for us but some might want more space. Nice breakfast as well.

In general the hotel was good value for money. Rooms are compact but have complimentary fruit, tea, coffee and biscuits which is a nice touch. Would give higher rating but room had no air conditioning and no room fan was provided which made the night a little uncomfortable.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Prime location in the Clifton area. Room was small but functional and comfortable. Staff were friendly and professional. Great value for money. Recommended.

Stayed last month at the Clifton Hotel and had a really lovely stay. Was warmly welcomed by reception upon arrival and was pleasantly surprised to see I had been upgraded to a recently refurbished double room. Fresh fruit and coffee in the rooms are a nice touch as are the funky radios! The bar downstairs has a lively atmosphere and it’s location is well suited to a trip to Clifton Village and the suspension bridge.

Was undergoing refurb when stayed. Not sure if finished yet.

Room was far too warm. Had to ask for an additional fan and cot provided for infant wasn't fit for purpose.

Breakfast OK, rooms OK, not sure about the rate as it was part of a stag weekend. Beer expensive. Free parking on road after 5 or 6pm on a Friday!

Had a lovely stay here over the easter weekend. Perfectly located for what we wanted to do and see. Clifton Village is lovely! It was cheap as well which is a bonus, compared to others in the area. Staff were very helpful and the rooms were nice. Top tip: have a drink or dinner at the bar/restaurant in the basement, really great food.

The Clifton hotel is a two star budget hotel, and it certainly felt like a budget hotel. Before we even arrived at the hotel we were told (by phone) that we might not have hot water. And surprise surprise, there wasn't. The heating also wasn't working. The facilities and the cleanliness needs improvement. The staff however was absolutely brilliant and helpful. They provided a heater and offered us discount to compensate for the lack of hot water. If you are staying for a short time, I would recommend it.

Now before I get started they lie about the parking. To anyone booking this hotel there are 15 spots at best for their parking they have 80 rooms. You can only park for 3 hours on the street between 9-5 so no lie in and good luck not getting a ticket. Asked for best room told it was best room it was tiny. Wifi didnt work. When I asked them to sort the Wi-Fi I was told you 'we cant do anything because you didnt pay for it' it says thats how they reward you for booking with them so its included in the price. I got them to change my rooms the other room was much nicer still small but much nicer. So to give you some context their website screwed up and booked the wrong month and my phone happened to be broke at the time so when they called to ask where I was it didnt come through. So I had paid for 1 day a month before I asked for a deal but still wanting the best room for my gfs birthday. The food in the bar which is seperate is nice the room itself was ok and most of the staff were friendly but I will never stay again mainly due to the parking.

A fantastic place for a quiet drink with a few friends or a lively outing with all your friends! 5/5.

I stay in Bristol quite often with my work, and even though my company covers my stay, it can be still a very expensive place to be in a couple of nights a week. I have a rate set up with the Rodney and its great. Its not the fanciest hotel, but has everything you need in the best area of Bristol. They let me have the room I like best and the restaurant has steak Mondays which I religiously attend. Love the staff, its the best thing about it, and it is a home from home. I have stayed here for so long, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else.

I had a fantastic stay at the Clifton recently. I stayed with some friends and we really enjoyed the bar downstairs and friendly service.

This is a nice hotel and good value for money. Stayed in a standard double room, good size though it was quite hot in this weather. Receptionist were really friendly my only gripe was that the car park was already full when we arrived — but luckily we found a spot on the street so all in all a nice stay.

Like the quiz and great for a few drinks. Food is generally pretty good, but dessert was a bit too sweet and wedges lacking in flavour.

I recently organised a great weekend away in Bristol staying in The Clifton Hotel. It was great value for money for a weekend getaway and the staff were all wonderful and friendly. Having the cafe in the reception was great as it meant cakes and snacks were readily available (the brownies were to die for! ). Overall, I'd hugely recommend it if you're staying in Bristol.

Stayed in Bristol for a dwarf and elf convention. Was really impressed with the Clifton. The staff were very helpful and friendly and my room was comfortable. Plenty of space to hang dwarves. There was also free fruit in the room which was spaftastic.

Excellent food, including great Sunday roast, and good selection of wine and beer.

Start the petition to 'STOP adding dregs to the pint'. They put glass under the tap to collect 'dregs' from previous serving and add on a pint of next customer. Ale sitting on glass for a while added to freshly served pint. It might be ok-ish when it is busy, but they do that even when the dreg is sitting for more than 10min! According to the bartender, it is an instruction from the manager and just doing what they were told.

The historic pub underwent a major refurbishment in 2005. Retaining the two bars, it certainly has benefited from a good lick of paint. A wide choice of real ales and unusual lagers, and an emphasis on good food, are now the main selling points.
