Very disappointed. My wife and I had dinner at the Bavarian Inn on Nov 8th for a celebration. Having been there in the past and always satisfied I was expecting a similar experience. This was not the case. The service was exceptional, the food not so. For some background, I lived in Stuttgart, Germany for a few years and know what Bavarian food should taste like. We started off with one of their salads which was very good. My main course was the Jaegerschnitzel, “Hunter’s Style”. This was very disappointing. The Red Cabbage was passable, but both the Spaetzle and Jaegerschnitzel were much below what one would expect at this price point. It tasted as if they were just re-heated. For the money spent one would expect better quality. When I mentioned this to the manager he was very apologetic, said there had been other similar complaints, and took my contact information down saying someone would be contacting me. This was on November 8th, so far no one has reached out. Which is probably more disappointing than the not so good Spaetzle and Jaegerschnitzel! I still think the Bavarian Inn is a good place for an upscale evening, just be aware that it may not turn out that way.

Thrilled to be part of the Oktoberfest return in 2022! An incredibly well organized and thoughtful event for all attendees. Highly recommend for weekend getaway by couples and families alike — the views, food, and staff brewing the cocktails and beer are epic! We will be back!

Spent the night after a 90 mile ride careful, dining closes at 9 but we were able to order Dominos direct to the room. Two pizzas were perfect!

The bartender, Diane, was friendly and sweet. Makes a terrific Bloody Mary. The Shepherd’s Pie was tasty. All staff that we encountered were all very pleasant. Considering spending the night there sometime.

I recommend the place since very beautiful, but the manager at the restaurant not the best, he clarifies the customer depends what are you wearing, I get tot it looks like a very expensive place but be is you are not wearing tie it doesn’t mean you can’t pay and leave a great tip. That’s all. Do I will go back maybe since our server was good but she add the tip on bill, she lost money because we are great tipping our servers. But I’m assuming her boss told her to do it.

Went for a quick getaway with my wife. Everything was excellent. Food, facilities, and the service from all the staff was top-notch! Yes there is some work going on but that is to make it even better.

The ambience and wait staff. However, this time around the food portions were small and the flavor was sub-par. If you are going to skimp on flavor and portions, reduce price. Also, We wanted to sit at the fire pit; there was no propane. We asked for a new tank and were told no one was available to help us. So at 8:30pm you have no manager on staff? A lovely guest who overheard us, went to a shed himself, found a tank, and put it in. For what you charge, it is unacceptable that a manager could not help us. When we expressed this at checkout all we got were excuses that the staff was young. Again, if you cannot meet the needs of your guests, you should not be charging the prices you do. We have enjoyed all of our previous stays. I really hope you step up to where you used to be.

Our server was great until we were ready for the check and then she was no where to be seen. We she did final show her face she was snappy not sure why. The stuffed crab pretzel could of of been amazing if the shredded cheese was complete melted and the stuffing was cold. The Ruben and the shepherds pie wasn’t very tasty!

GREAT place to dine! Authentic German food and home brewed beer. Has been the best restaurant I've been to yet this weekend. The whole design was very authentic to old wchool German roots and the staff we're very polite and on the ball when it came to their menu choices. And, it's right off the Potomac river. Great place to visit!

A wonderful resort, just amazing views.

Took my mother to the brunch this afternoon for her birthday like we do every year. Food was great but since then they put a bar where the food use to be. The patrons at the bar were rather loud and noisy and we weren’t thrilled about walking thru the bar to get food. The once quit brunch we were use to for years no longer exists! Why put a bar right outside a quiet meal setting. Very disappointed not really interested in going back.

This place had amazing food. A great overlook and infinity pool to take pictures. I was there for a for a social event wedding rehearsal dinner, great time.

Fantastic service and beautiful setting! Servings were relatively small for all vegetarian options, but the food itself was delicious. They were also very flexible about the dress code which was convenient for my party, as most of us were travelling and didn't have a ton of formal clothing.

Brought my granddaughters ages 6 and 8 for 1 night stay. Loved the infinity pool but when it was time for dinner they had booked a large event and were telling us to go into Shepardstown to a another restaurant. The little girls were very disappointed. All dressed up ready to have a fancy dinner in the dining room. To say the least I was mad! The whole point of the trip was to stay at the Inn and swim and eat.

This place is run down and outdated. They must have been nice back in the day, to have gotten such a following of people willing to blow that exorbitant amount of money. The beds are all springs and the sheets feel like sandpaper. The rooms are dingy and humid. The bathrooms are moldy. The only great thing here would be the view… except even that was obstructed by extra heavy curtains that wouldn't stay open, a little broken door beside a broken window so neither would open easily, and a deck with such thick, dark wood, you can barely make out the view from inside the room. I was super disappointed and wouldn't have even paid half that price had I known how junky the place was inside. The pool was pretty nice though.

Rooms are ok but need updated. Pool has a great view and is very cool, but small and crowded. They make great drinks at the pool bar. Unfortunately, there was a wedding going on the weekend we visited. Wedding members were permitted to get wasted on hotel property and they were loud and obnoxious. They slammed doors all night, screamed and they made it impossible to sleep. Called the front desk and spoke to them about the noise. They said, "well, would you like us to talk to them about it? " Uh… yes! The noise did not stop. I enjoyed the view, bar, and pool, but the noise and poor service ruined the serenity for me. Ive stayed a lot more relaxing places for less $.

Top shelf service. Had great Sunday breakfast and food was outstanding. Beautiful dining.

A scenic place to stay along the Potomac where I (we) have stayed many times. I had to ask to have the porch cleaned of the massive mosquitoes caught in multiple spider webs. The work was somewhat cleaned within 45 minutes of my request. The whirlpool tub was welcomed; however, the hairdryer broke on the second morning. On the first morning the maids arrived late as we were returning from a visit to Antietam and as a result our room could not be made up. Seriously, do people really need to slam entrance and room entry doors? At one time it sounded like someone fell against our door. I love the locale but this visit was not the best. We stayed in the Danube House overlooking the river.

Room was great, would not dine here again. Our room was great. The pool bar was great. Beautiful views from both. The dinner at the inn was just ok. I ordered the whole Branzino and it was difficult to eat because of all the bones. My husband's meal was good though. Service was really good. The decor was so dated, very 80's. I would definitely stay here again but wouldn't eat here again.

Nice traditional atmosphere. Friendly service. Waited for our meal AND dessert longer than should have for sure… but apparently that wasn't normal. Overall we enjoyed our time there and the food. Plus it is in a very beautiful area, right along the Potomac river.

Sunday brunch buffet was excellent with a mind boggling selection of food. Very comfortable surroundings with great patio seating overlooking the Potomac. Do go there!

Delightful, hospitable inn–restaurant with a charming, luscious property. Old World feel with a modern twist. The wine list at the restaurant has an enviable section of quality German wines of many vintages. I got the sausage sampler and the spätzle, and both were deliciously, carefully prepared, and rich. The sauerkraut that came with the grilled sausage slices was meltingly unctuous. So good.

Very enjoyable stay. Close to many local attractions. The Sunday brunch was incredible! We were able to enjoy so many different types of foods over a few hours we had never tried before. I hear a pub is being built onto it which is going to be great.

Very disappointed in our visit this weekend. Brought our numerous complaints to the attention of the Asst. Mgr. Who responded with a condescending "I'm sorry you feel that way". Requested specifically in my reservation to not be in a specific building & that is where they assigned us. They did move us but it was a hassle. Check in was very uncomfortable, worker had me reaching over other guests to check in. Poor service from other personnel. Toilet ran half the night til we turned it off (requiring to be turned on again to be flushed). Yes, it was fixed the next day but PM would have prevented half a sleepless night. Why would you build a stone wall on a Saturday? Hearing the hammers pounding away was not peaceful. Food was very average. I used to love coming here for the atmosphere and service. Sadly that is a thing of the past. Shame on you Bavarian Inn.

The jewel of Shepherdstown is no more. Tonight was probably my last experience at the restaurant. Recently, the owners of the Bavarian retired and left the operation to their children. The sons have managed to take the restaurant from a truly unforgettable Germanic culinary wonder to a 3rd rate cafeteria experience. I wish I could say that I am just being over reactive, but I’m not. It’s truly uninspired and downright awful. I could go on and on about how wonderful it used to be, but in the end I am just lamenting the loss of an old dear friend. I’ll just move on… In response to the owner's reply… you keep replying to reviews that the menu is the same. It’s not even close to the offerings and quality that defined the Bavarian for decades. Just be honest. You are building a brew pub and trying to draw in the college crowd. I don’t blame you for that. But please stop calling your restaurant “fine dining. ” Those days are obviously and painfully over…

Exclusive food very exquisite and very excellent attention I like.

My wife and I booked a luxury room with river view for our anniversary. There were two old apples in the room, as a welcome gift. I showed them to the front desk and they sent a cheese and fruit plate to recover, which was appreciated. The plate came with a hand written note “apology for housekeeping. ” The idea of the note was good, but blaming housekeeping? The facilities was worn and some items just dirty, like the carpet outside the room and doors. Poor caulk job in bat…hroom. The deck had cigarette butts on it. There were many boring bees on the deck and we could not stay out. The deck light stayed on at night and we could not go out at night due to bugs attracted to the light. There are too many light switches, hard to figure out what went with what light. The ice machine was not producing ice and we needed to go to another building. Also, the soda machine at our building was out of several sodas and had to go to another building. We had a nice dinner at the Inn with very good German food and great service from Jason. The steps going from the Inn to cottages are spaced oddly and are dangerous. In summary, we were disappointed with the facilities at a luxury price. No attention to facilities details.

A unique and wonderful destination! The room was clean and comfortable, and had an EXCELLENT view. The staff — from reception to dining, to chance encounters on the grounds — were helpful and exceptionally cheerful. The meals were delicious. My husband and I think dinner may have been our best restaurant meal ever! (We called to change our reservation 2 times and each time the staff people were gracious and accommodating) The menu was innovative and every course of the meal was beautifully presented and remarkably flavorful. Our server (Nick) was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable both about the menu and about the history of Shepherdstown and the surrounding area. We truly enjoyed our stay and will be back again soon to explore and to check out the Infinity pool and the new Brew Pub. The owners of this lovely gem obviously know what an amazing asset they have, and cultivate it appropriately. Thank you for a very memorable weekend! We wish we could have stayed longer…

We recently stayed for one night for a get-a-way weekend. This has been a fairly regular event for us at this location over the past 20 years. We had not been back for a couple of years due to a less than pleasurable experience previously and thought it was time to give them another try. It was a mistake. The property has seen a gradual but generally continuous decline in maintenance. The site was under construction with no provisions in place to ensure the convenience of the patrons. The rooms are desperately in need of updating with evidence of old finish and furnishings. The wait staff was polite but the food quality was not up to previous standards. The arrogance of the ownership appears to permeate through the staff in general and an aloof attitude toward service quality prevails. We have traveled extensively nationally and internationally and recognize quality of service and accommodations; this property does not present well.

We go to the Rathskellar every year for a special anniversary dinner. This was our fourth year and it never disappoints! The past two years we have brought friends and they are always impressed. The prices are high — it is fine dining, after all — but the quality is worth every penny. We prefer the more casual dining experience at the Rathskellar where we can enjoy phenomenal food in a more relaxed atmosphere than upstairs.

It's worth the drive (or hike or bike). The dining room does a great job with German standards, but also has some great seasonal options, and generally have something creative (in a good way) for vegetarians. If you're looking for German wine or beer, you're not likely to be disappointed. The Rathskellar offers German favorites (including beer) in a more casual setting.

I drive all the way to Shepherdstown just to drive through their parking lot! It’s suck a pretty place. The food here is amazing — the sights are breath taking (garden lovers) — this family owned and operated facility is a wonderful place to get a taste of luxury as well as get away for a night or two of relaxation in their soaking tubs, and grab drinks by the infinity pool.

We had dinner in the main dining room. The menu options were a wonderful combination of German options as well as traditional American options. This was definitely a dining experience geared more to adults or those with older children as our 3 courses spanned 3 hours. It was very relaxing and even though the dining room was half full, our server made us feel as though we were his only table.

Had Thanksgiving dinner with family. Food, service, and atmosphere were perfect. Beautiful location overlooking the Potomac River. Drive through western Maryland was spectacular.

The food is excellent. The staff is on point. The rooms are comfortable and relaxing. I would suggest the Bavarian Inn for a nice overnight get away. A perfect spot to explore Shepherdstown from.

I was in a wedding held at Bavarian Inn, the week between Christmas and New Years… it was beautifully decorated, our event coordinator Kaitlyn was fantastic, the service from the front desk to the wait staff to the managers was wonderful, and the food was great! Moreover, the Inn has been under construction inside and out for updates, but things were clean, organized and/or well hidden. Weddings can be high stress, but BI was so accommodating; and provided complementary champagne to boot! I am local, and I was incredibly impressed with the quality of our experience at BI; and it was really great for the out of town guests. I did not stay overnight, but the rooms I saw very very nice; the bathrooms with the big whirlpool tubs look awesome. The room rate was also really good. I know from a separate experience the Sunday brunch is amazing. I highly recommend BI for an event or just a stay. It's going to be even better when all the renovations are completed… thanks, BI!

Great Sunday brunch! The wait staff could be a little hard to find at times, and while the food was good, it wasn't exceptional. For the price, though, I'd definitely recommend it. Good for children, too.

German food. No wait, stick with me here. German food is awesome and this place has some delicious, hearty dishes. I have had some delicious meals here. I would recommend that you visit the Rathskeller in the basement as it is a cozy place with nice booths. They also have a regular brunch buffet up top.

I stayed for two nights during the weekend. We stayed in a room overlooking the river. The room was nice and clean. The bathroom was clean and the hot tub worked. The staff and servers were all very nice and helpful during the stay. The little town aside of the Inn is the real jewel. It is small with many places to eat. The best place we found for breakfast was the pressed flour, its just a get food and go place, no seats. Breakfast at the Inn was just OK. The portions are very small and kinda $$$. The main dinning room seems out of date and not really German themed. We had dinner at the restaurant in the basement, it was ok German good, I have had better. The red cabbage had clover overload done too it. The MAJOR disappointment was they only had 2 beers on draft and the bar was to small.

Food is always excellent! Eaten and stayed there many times since graduating from Shepherd in 1963. They serve the best coffee I have ever had and wish I knew where I could buy some for when I'm home in New Jersey! Maybe I will get the answer from this review! This place needs a new marketing team and menu. Also some renovations wouldn’t hurt. I feel like it is geared toward an older crowd and old money. Way over priced menu, for food that is nothing to write home about. The “dress code” is ridiculous. They could really tap into the younger crowd at the local university too.

The pub is more interesting that the restaurant. Sunday brunch is good but there are better close by. Menu has both German and traditional American items. The location is sweet and a meal on the terrace can be very enjoyable.

Very High end restaurant but so worth the meal. Requires business casual clothing to dine inside (no shorts, or sandles). I suggest if you have small children dine outside or upper level due to the older guest. I have been approached by older guest before about the dislike of children eating at such a high class establishment. Most plates are 30+ dollars. Celebrities have been known to dine here. This is a 3 diamond establishment.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal tonight at the Bavarian Inn. The food was fresh and flavorful and we saved room for the German chocolate cake, which was very good. Our server Wade was delightful and took very good care of us. This was our first visit but not our last. Hope to return soon.

We ate a lovely dinner there. Very nice waitstaff amd food was well worth the trip. Have a Game food selection right now, with elk, buffalo, venison and others. Glass did have a spec on it.

The establishment mixes old world European charm and class with a modern contemporary touch. Their food is 5-star quality, as are their drinks. I had never tried German cuisine before. After eating at Bavarian, I am now a big fan of German food. The staff are all super friendly. Will definitely go here again.

Third year to stay at this hotel and every year the service seems to erode. No parking for dual occupancy, locked doors from the patios, disappearing patio furniture, the removal of "pet friendly" status and a noise complaint as we entered our room tonight after being out all day. While the coffee service this morning was nice so many other things seem to run counter to the "hospitality" industry. It's a pity, we used to love the place. Three nights at a bit more than $200 a night is no bargain.

While the location on the Potomac is definitely idyllic, the establishment tries to be something it is not — it's not European. It's motto is 'European elegance on the Potomac. ' Mind you, I have not stayed in the German-inspired chalets so this review does not cover the hotel-side of the business. For the restaurant: the right 'German' things are on the menu and they are executed with effort but they never quite hit a high note. The decor is elegant and the staff appropriately attired but there is something more in line with New England rather than Germany in the atmosphere. Decent, ok, so-so food served in an attractive dining room festooned with flowers. Oh, the establishment should consider replacing the carpet: it is an unwanted olfactory sting coming in the door.

VERY DISAPPOINTING! Six of us went for dinner. The service was very very poor, the food was sub-standard and way over priced for what you receive. It took us three hours to try and have dinner from beginning to end. There were 30 minute breaks where we couldn't even find our waiter. One item we ordered was rockfish with asparagus. The fish was the size of a dollar bill, and just as thin. There was literally one piece of asparagus as the side! The other five dinners were just as disappointing. When we tried to discuss our concerns with the waiter he said he would tell the chef and walked away. Needless to say our waiters absenteeism became longer after this. No one ever addressed our concerns. We sat with dirty dishes in front of us for 40 minutes! Then the bill came… yep you guessed it … the bill was wrong. Another 30 minutes to try and get it right. Still, no one concerned that we had been sitting at this table for 3 hours at this point! I would have thought that maybe this was just our expectations being too high, but looking around at many other patrons, I could see they were annoyed and frustrated too. Don't waste your hard earned money dining here! The views are beautiful. But that's it. Maybe I just expect too much for $125 a couple dinner. Really breaks my heart to have to give the dining such a poor review because we had waited so long to visit and had heard it was very good.

The rooms were a bit dated, but all have a view of the Potomac River. We found the rooms to be clean and well stocked with supplies. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Great place to get away from the city, but still be close to the DC area. The main house has 2 restaurants, one formal and one casual. $$$

This is our first time here and night one out of two. The grounds are beautiful and the pool looks great. Hopefully we will get to use it because it rained today and is supposed to rain tomorrow. Our room is nice but the bed is too hard for my husband and he chose to sleep on the couch. The balconies and windows need a good cleaning because of the many cobwebs. It is not an attractive place to sit. First time visiting Antietam and Shepherdstown. Really enjoying the area.

There aren't many places around here like the Bavarian, either as a restaurant or an inn for a weekend getaway. As usual, the grounds were very well-kept and the new infinity pool is gorgeous, overlooking the Potomac River. My family and I had dinner at the Rathskellar, which is the basement level of the restaurant. Service was a bit slow, but I can forgive that to a degree since we were a party of eight. The important thing is that the authentic German food was outstanding. It had been years since I had eaten at the Bavarian, but it definitely won't be that long again. Highly recommended for special occasions or for when you're craving great German food and happen to have a few extra dollars in your pocket.

I have loved this place for years. Only got a chance to stay there this year. Normally eat in the restaurant which is wonderful. But now there is an infinity pool and really nice lounge chair and umbrella area surrounding it as well as a pool bar. Also people can take their drinks in the pool with them. Fabulous view from the rooms although they have gotten rid of the observation deck which we miss. Great place to stay if you have kids next door in Shepherd's College or are there to visit Antietam.

The photographer did a great job selling this hotel, however the pictures were too good to be true. The rooms were dark and outdated. The place could definitely use a facelift. A premium price per night for a below average stay. The pool was very nice, however. My family would not stay here again (at the current prices) until there were some simple renovations and amenities.

The grounds were lovely, the pool had a great view of the Potomac River. If you want a drink they had a bar for adults, free lemon water and towels pool side. The room was nostalgic, yet house keeping forgot to leave shampoo, had only one regular coffee and two decafe for the single cup coffee maker. The windows had splatter marks all over. The bed was comfortable, but don't bring any leftovers, no frig or microwave.

Upon arrival the complex is very neat and tidy. The landscaping is great. The registration desk is a little difficult to find. Plenty of parking g though and it has a great location and a beautiful view. The pool is arranged fantastically and the bar is well stocked. Although the staff at the bar were overwhelmed with relatively few people. We stayed in one of the cheaper rooms but it was nice and simple. Restaurant was nicely decorated and the food was very good yet expensive.

Attended a friend's wedding, did not stay over night at the hotel. Staff was very nice, but there were a few hiccups in the process of the actual ceremony. Have been in the past for dinner and the food is very high quality.

The food I ordered was pricey but awful. I assumed that a Swanson's TV dinner box once housed my beef dinner but quickly realized it was much too tough to be Swanson's and the sauce was awful. I spent a decent amount on two rooms and a dinner to entertain my visiting parents. Way to ruin the evening Bavarian Inn!

The food was good, but I'm not sure it was worth the price. I got the sausage platter, which came with some really good sauerkraut. The sausage was hit or miss, though. I tried my husband's potato dumpling, which was good. The service was nice, and it's in a very beautiful location.

Great food and atomsphere. The Bavarian Inn is a great resturant for special occasions. I highly recommend the Chateau Briand as it is excellent.

We had a wonderful experience. The food was amazing. Wonderful customer service. The room was clean. We loved our balcony with views of the grounds and river. We will be back for sure!

I have enjoyed the Bavarian Inn for many years. It is my go to place to get away and be treated in quality manner. Love the inn food and the family that runs it. Some say it is dated. Yeah! it is an old inn in great european style.

Great weekend getaway spot! The food at the Inn is delicious and the local history, shops, and restaurants will keep you busy the entire time! If you can't find enough to keep you busy in Shepherdstown, Harper's Ferry, Charles Town and the Antietam Battlefield are just short drives from the Inn.

This was our second time staying at this Hotel. The first time was awesome. Had a great time. This time we decided to spend our 11th year anniversary there… Our problem was. We spent almost 300 (including package) a night for this hotel room. When we filled the whirl tub … It was so filthy, there was other people filth rising to the top of the bath water and bubbles was filled with dirt. Was the most nasty thing I ever seen… And before that, it took forever just to get the hot water to work. The maintence people had to come up twice just to get it to work… And when I went downstairs to complian about the how dirty the tub was. And to show them how the dirty bubbles got all the wash towels. The guy actually told me I was Lying… I couldnt believe it. I felt sooo disrepected… He siad that dirt doest do that or something to that nature. I tried to explain to him how dirt rises like that. He tells me Im insulting his intelligence. And on top of that the woman hands me the bottle of cleaner and expects me to clean this! COMPELETY UNEXCEPTABLE! I didnt spend 300 a night to come and clean a dirty hotel room. They didnt even offer us clean bath towels… Or a differnt room… I never in my life had to deal with any thing like that. I took pictures of this disgusting mess and sent it too management. Still no response. At this point I dont even care anyomre. We had our 11th year anniversay ruined and treated like it didnt matter and wasted 300 bucks. We will never go back there again.

Very good service. The food, and the whole wine-pairing dinner were fabulous. I love the whole feel of the Bavarian Alps, and the decor.

Only ever come for dinner or lunch. The decor is a bit dated and if it were updated it would be more elegant. The food is okay well pretty good but could use more diversity.

I normally have given higher ratings for prior visits, but was taken aback today when we brought out of town friends to brunch. Had a wonderful meal and great service, until after the check was paid, and we were enjoying the last of our coffee/teas and conversation, when the waitress came by to pick up the bill, which included a 22% tip, and asked us how much longer we would be. Half the tables were empty and we had only been there about an hour, so we found this request to be very rude. She said they would need to push some tables together for a group coming in, but we were at a circular table in the corner, and, as I said, there were were more than a dozen tables open, in addition to the little dining room that was already set up for a large group. Food was great, service was a let down and embarrassment at the end.

First time visiting for brunch. Beautiful place, food was okay. After one hour of being there, we were talking and the server asked how long we were going to be as there was another reservation coming in for our table. She said we can pull some other tables for them if we have to.? The restaurant was not full by any means. We found it very rude. The other couple we were there with are locals and go there often and they were very surprised that we were asked to leave after one hour. Very rude.

With a wonderfully polite staff and a pleasant outdoor pool area, the Bavarian Inn is a good stop while you're in Shepherdstown, WV. The price is pretty high, and while the property is in a great location near downtown, the rooms haven't been updated in a while and you may find yourself wondering why you spent quite so much.

Stopped here while biking from D. C. To Cumberland and had to stay an extra day. The town is charming and the Bavarian inn was absolutely lovely! The rooms are comfortable — bathroom had its own thermostat which was a nice touch particularly since it was getting cold and all of our clothes were wet. They were very accommodating of bikers. Also, good german beer and THE BEST POOL EVER for tiny people.

The view of the Potomac River is great. The Inn is difficult to find because there are few signs. The rooms are not easy to get to especially if you have problems walking. The decor is nothing special. The food is German in name only. I lived in Germany for 6 years and I would say a true German would be sadly disappointed in the food. We will not return.

This was the first time I visited The Bavarian Inn. Wild game was on the menu, and the wild boar and venison sausage was fantastic. Their restaurant deserves the AAA four diamond award. The staff was friendly. I stayed overnight in one of the rooms with a sitting room and fireplace. It was clean, and it was a perfect place to relax. I highly recommend The Bavarian Inn, and I look forward to visiting again.

Bavarian Inn/"resort" was pretty cool, the original estate house was nice/quaint (although we didn't have a meal there), and the reception area was actually very reminiscent of authentic Euro inns. The grounds were nice and well-kept, on different elevations which made it picturesque; there was a wedding and reception going on when we arrived. Separate bldg where we stayed was more standard, even though they dressed it up "bavarian style". The bathroom was massive, meaning lots of open space (we're not sure why) with a whirlpool tub. We regretted not bringing our tennis kit. Highlight was really the infinity pool (with bar of course) with views overlooking the (cleaner sections) of the Potomac. Bonus that the equally quaint high street of Shepherdstown was an easy few blocks walking distance. Overall a good weekend getaway from the metro-DC area — — and a relaxing destination after a days-worth of moto-riding.

My family and I stayed at this inn for a night while visiting Antietam NP and found the staff to be outstanding. The food was great and the lodging superb.

Ok. So. First of all, i´m german. Since i´m 17 I used to work in german restaurants and hotels. i visited the bavarian inn in 2013 for their meaning of "oktoberfest". Here MY impressions: i had kassler (pork) with potoe salad. Well. What should I say. The meat had no flavour and I needed to drink beer being able to swallow it. The potatoe salad reminded more on a VERY thick potatoe soup. No flavour at all and the potatoe pieces (they are supposed to be cut in slices and you still need to see slices once it is done) where about 1 inch big. that food had NOTHING to do with german food! ok. I thought "give it a try and lets have the apple strudel". Big big mistake. First of all $5 for a tiny piece? come on! then. No vanilla sauce with it or a scoup of vanilla ice cream, nor whipped cream as it is supposed to be served. Nothing. instead a dry "something" which was nothing but brown inside. Even the apples where brown. Now. I am NOT a master cook but I love to cook and to bake. That stuff what they called "apple strudel" had absolutly NOTHING to do what you get in germany. Even the crappiest stuff you get here in a grocery store is better compared what they offered. so. I decided to talk to the owner/manager. The german. after I found him, he talked to me in english and once he figured out I was german, he kinda turned arround and did not wanted to talk to me anymore :). Hello?! so I decided to talk to the chef cook in the kitchen. a german.

We stayed here for our first time last week while visiting Antietam Battlefield. The rooms were clean, comfy pillow-top beds and a view of the Potomac River. We dined at their restaurant and the food was nothing short of amazing. Very pleased.
