Review of Hilton Portland Downtown 4*

My sister and I just enjoyed a very nice stay at the Hilton. The room (two double beds with a city view) was nice but basically average. And the service was exceptional. The food at the bar was decent, but nothing to write home about. But the staff was absolutely lovely and made the stay great for us. From the valet to checking in to having food delivered, I did feel that the service was exceptional. It was an overall lovely experience. We aren’t really TV watchers, but having a massive TV on the wall was pretty awesome so we made sure to take advantage of it. We ordered drinks and truffles for arrival, which was quite lovely. We left a note for housekeeping requesting extra shampoo (two women with lots of hair can’t get by on one little thing of shampoo and conditioner! ) and also extra coffee. They remembered this for each day of our stay, which we appreciated. We felt well taken care of, with lots of shampoo, conditioner, and coffee. A small gripe — when checking out I basically was told a dollar value and wasn’t able to review the receipt. They just check you out and send you on your way — you don’t review the charges and sign or anything. So I thought the amount was off based on the “long weekender” rate I had booked but couldn’t tell until after I was checked out and away from the desk. I’m not cheap, but I do want the deal I signed up for. So I looked at the receipt, pulled my reservation up on my phone, and was able to verify I had been charged about $100 too much. I would have liked an experience where I could review all the charges first and confirm. Instead I had to go back to the hotel and ask them to fix it. That being said, I would have been okay with them fixing it with no real issue, but once that was done the person I was dealing with did offer us a free lunch at the restaurant, which we definitely appreciated. So I felt at least that they do value customer service there. So while I was annoyed at the fact that I really wasn’t able to understand the charges until I was away from the checkout area, I was still pleased with the outcome as a whole.
