One of the worst hotel experiences of my life. Born and raised in CT, travel a lot but this hotel and staff near a resort compound was unbararable. Everything from the shower curtain rod to the carpet was either torn/broken. No water pressure, stained shower curtain and towels you name it, it had a mark on it. Not to mention pee on the sheets. Yes pee. Staff was very unprofessional and unhelpful. We booked the room over 30 days prior to our stay, confirmed 24 hours before with the front desk answering “hello” rudely and without the proper welcome hello on a phone — and we paid $207. I’m sure all of these reviews other than mine are complete garbage and paid accounts and with this review, Im sure this company will be extinct soon in the future. Renovate, innovate and clean! Proper property management and upkeep is key, oh and clean!

Stayed for a month on business. Staff was very helpful about services near the Hotel. Awesome Breakfast with hot waffle, cereals, pastries fruits, yogurt and juices. Fast in house laundry. An outstanding variety of restaurants are located close to the hotel. Recently renovated rooms look wonderful with hardwood floor; no stain or smell. Walking distance to Grocery store and shopping center. Definitely recommend to travelers who looking for accommodation near Old Saybrook!

Recently stayed two weeks at this wonderful resort. We have been coming here for many years. This hotel has gone through various upgrades through the years. We love it because it is a medium size hotel that gives you personalized attention. A suite room was clean and neat as always! A special thank you to Mayur. Mayur, you are the main reason we return to this hotel. Your gracious and friendly personality makes us look forward to returning each year. A thank you also to Christina. It is always great to start a day off with her greeting you with a smiling face around. Can't wait to see you again in Summer!

My grandmother lost her glasses in the parking lot; someone brought them to the employee's attention and we ended up getting them as we left.

Good and cheap for a quick stay. Breakfast is not bad for what it offers.

Ecconolodge is the place to be if you plan staying in a hotel/inn in Connecticut, staff is very friendly and the rooms literaly fantastic.

Great time. Staff is very accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was good. Quiet. Central to many attractions and fine dinning, but also quick places to eat. We will be back next time was visit the area for sure!

This is a no frills accommodation, they do make an effort to keep the property clean and fairly up to date. Our room has a pergo floor, TV from this century and the Wi-Fi is good. There is a nice deck and an outdoor unheated pool. Reasonable rates and proximity to local attractions landed us here but we probably would not return. Staff is very friendly, no smoking property but people seem to hang out smoking all day on the lower deck.

Terrible place to stay! the manager and his wife are very unwelcoming and rude! not family oriented at all! No housekeeping and the manager is rude to his staff! He has made comments like "let the men talk" when I was giving my opinion mind you he was speaking to my husband! wow! Last time I checked I was born and raised in America land of the free! let's not forget all the mold all over the rooms and wet carpets,! gross!

Was absolutely the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The grounds were awful. The staff lived there and all you could smell was cigarettes. The price advertised is not the actual price for what it costs you could stay at a way nicer hotel. I can't say one good thing about our stay. Completely gross.

There were only a few positives… the beds and the pool were clean. However, the whole place smelled musty and damp, the carpet was dirty and ripped in places, there was hair in the refrigerator, mold on the back of the shower curtain, the eating area was small with only 2 tables and only a few breakfast items offered and the whole decor needs updating… very 1980's. I paid as much for my room as I did for a night at the Fairfield Inn down the road only it was a 100% nicer room.

We stayed at this Econo Lodge last year, and again this year and will be going back at the end of summer this year. Pleasant, friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend staying here. The facility and the rooms are kept clean; they offer continental breakfast. Priced very affordable; central location to beaches, shopping, variety of restaurants.

I liked the new improvements done by the owner. The staff service is amazing and they are very friendly. We stayed 3 nights during Christmas holidays and hotel was decorated so beautifully, we enjoyed cookies and eggnog every evening! If you have big family, go with Suite room, bigger space with pull out sofa. Definitely we recommend this hotel to our friends and relatives!

In terms of convenience, price, and hospitality, this is a miraculous lodging option in one of the most underrated getaway destinations in southern New England. We visited on the day after Labor Day when the weather was still seasonally splendid but the crowds were gone and the prices were down. We were anxious to spend time at Connecticut's leading state beach, Hammonasset, in nearby Madison, which we had virtually to ourselves. The Econo Lodge is on Route 1 (Boston Post Road) but set back from the road enough to be completely quiet at night and to provide enough room for a restful sylvan setting including a gazebo and duck pond! The rooms (ours had two Queens beds) are spacious and clean and regulated to a perfect temperature. One of the highlights was the Lodge's continental breakfast featuring homemade waffles which you pour and grill yourself. They're almost reason enough to take a trip back to Old Saybrook just to have breakfast! The staff is serene, smart, and helpful. This is a perfect place to get away from a more hectic existence. I was 90 minutes from my home, but it felt like 900 miles.

This was my first stay at the Old Saybrook Econolodge and I was delighted at how wonderful the experience was! First, the staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. Owner Mayur and his wife, the desk attendants James and Christina, Nita, the lady who cleaned our room — — all went above and beyond what is normally expected of motel staff! They treated us like family! Then, the room was near perfect! Two Queen-sized beds, a large flat-screen t. V. A microwave, refrigerator, a small safe for valuables, free Wi-fi, wonderful bathroom, etc. Etc. Etc. Everything was provided. Plus there was a snack room and washer and dryer on our floor at the end of the hall! As for the grounds, there was a duck pond (! ), gazebo, swimming pool that was so clean and clear, you felt you could drink the water! And there was even a poolside restroom and bath towels provided. Not to mention an amazing free Continental Breakfast that included a do-it-yourself waffle maker that produced waffles better than my Mom's; fresh fruit like apples and bananas; yogurt; mini muffins and bagels; cereals; coffee, tea, milk, apple or orange juice, etc. I just know I've forgotten something! And pets are welcome! And we were only about 20-30 minutes from gorgeous Hammonasset Beach and State Park. And at night, we ate at a fantastic family-style Italian restaurant called Luigi's about 10 minutes away! And as for the price, I am still stunned!

Great service, very friendly staff. I had no complaints for what we paid.

Not the most eye pleasing building in the area. Everyone working there is wearing normal clothes so you can't tell who works there or not. They were able to check us in a couple hours early which was nice. They have a sign saying to excuse the mess as they are remodeling, but I believe I got one of the rooms that still need to be remodeled. The bathroom shower faucets were free floating and not attached to the shower, found hair in the shower even though I got a note on the table that said the room was clean, had to jiggle the toilet handle otherwise it was going to keep filling all night. The carpet in the room was old and popping up from the floor. The table, nightstands, and dressers seemed new. We paid $170 for one night. Which I felt was very overpriced for that hotel. If it was $70-$90 a night I would be fine with it. Next time I'm going to spend $10 a night at one of the nicer hotels in the area, probably not going to use Econo Lodge again.

Smelly room and over priced.

Not as shown in pictures… its not terrible but thats the best I can say about it. The area around the hotel, other then one small spot by the pond, seams as though it has had no upkeep. Half the doors dont unlock, due to "lack of batteries" according to management, so they remain open… if this hotel were not in a decent area I would not stay here. The price is right and the rooms weren't dirty, and management was very kind just did not appear to be very good at upkeep around their facility. Just wanted to give a fair warning so no one else got the same surprise I did.

Rooms smell like cats and dogs. They must get rid of the rugs in the rooms when they renovate.

The hotel is really nice and I stay there once or twice a week. I am a truck driver so I get truck driver discount too which is I believe 15%? I usually do not write reviews but their service is good so I spare 5 minutes for them. One thing I have noticed that breakfast are has been improved and that's good for people like me who is heavy break fast eaters! They have big enough parking area for 18 wheeler trucks and therefore I stay there, plus it has pretty quiet environment.

Really nice hotel. Large, clean, comfortable, quiet room. The bathroom is wonderful! Friendly front desk staff. There was good breakfast in the morning with fruits! We stayed in suites room for 3 nights in 2 rooms with my friend. The outside scenario with a pond is amazing. Great hotel at a great price. Will definitely stay there again and recommend to others!

Worst place to stay to much rude staff un clean rooms there was a shooting there the cop always there so don't stay there it smells.

Stayed for 3 nights. This is for sure one of the best hotel experiences I've had. Was able to get the cheapest price available directly on their website. Friendly staff, clean room, excellent housekeeping. I opted for the suite, it's a great room. Absolutely the best ed I have ever slept on. Key features of the room I stayed in included 40" LCD TV, mini fridge, keypad safe, marble counter-top, king size bed, remote control climate control (battery on remote was dead, not a big deal), fold-out sofa, large mirrors. The microwave, ice tray, extra pillows, kitchenette sink, chain lock, and wall-sized window were nice touches. I couldn't seem to connect to their Wi-Fi network using the code I was given, not a big deal, was able to sign into the Xfiniti network. The next time I visit this area I will more than likely wish to stay here again. They also granted me a late checkout. Additionally, AAA members do get a discount.

My stay was brief, the staff was nice, however the room I stayed in was in no way a resemblence to the rooms they have pictured in the virtual tour portion on their website unfortunately.

I stayed here last week and had a great experience. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was great and the staff very helpful. I will stay here again.

I am surprised at some of the recent positive reviews. We attended a wedding at Waters Edge right down the road and the hosts had reserved a block of rooms at Econo Lodge in Old Saybrook CT. The bedspreads and plasma TV are (I guess) the result of a recent renovation mentioned in some of the other reviews, but the bathrooms have not been re-done. There was almost no tolietries in the bathroom (one shampoo, soap) for three guests. The bathroom was very shabby. The air conditioner ran on 60 degrees all night to keep the room barely cool, and would intermittently make loud noises throughout the night (which woke us up). We paid $162, including tax for one night, not a good value at all for our money. I would not recommend this establishment,

We stayed there for an extended weekend. From the moment we arrived the personnel was excellent. They have invested a lot of money remodeling the inn, both exterior and interior. The lobby was clean, modern and welcoming. The room even had a Jacuzzi tub. The grounds are well manicured; the pool was clean and warm. I would stay there again.
