What a disaster! This is a $50 a night hotel experience masquerading as a Renaissance. I have been a Marriott Elite member for more years I can remember, and have never had anything but fantastic experiences at Renaissance hotels across the country; until we came here. The first room they tried to put us in was handicapped accessible which met that instead of a regular shower the room had a slightly sunken area of the bathroom where a shower fixture was mounted and most of the floor space was taken up for some type of metal and nylon fold down seat for handicap people to sit on while showering. This might have been OK, except the shower “stall’ was shielded by a shower curtain that only came sort of close to the floor and was mold covered. We drew the line at the mold and requested another room. After much arguing with the lobby clerk and a 1 ½ hour wait with our luggage in the lobby we got a new room with a regular shower; and peeling wall paper in the bathroom! Rather than do more arguing we shut up took this new room and settled in. Rising early the next morning we left to enjoy the city and returned at 4:00 in the afternoon to find our room still not made up. After 3 calls to the desk (their default assumption was it was our fault the maids had not made up the room), and another hour waiting in the lobby we got clean towels and the bed made. This was important as we discovered the first time we used the shower that the door leaked water across the entire tile floor and that you either laid towels across the floor or risk breaking your neck by slipping on a wet tile floor. I could go on with more of this nightmare stay but you get the picture. I travel over 150 nights a year with my work and am an elite member of a couple different chains. Even if it was a Fairfield Inn this hotel is hands down the worst Marriott property I have ever experienced, and certainly not worth the cost. Based upon my observations of the staff and how they operate, I suspect the issue here is really one of management at this specific site. There are other Marriott properties close by, do yourself a favor and choose one of them for your stay in new Orleans. BTW, one of the previous reviewers mentioned the on-going construction; we experienced it first-hand the other night when they opened up with a jackhammer just below our window at 2:00AM.
