My family stayed in one of the townhouses and the setting was perfect. The view of the lake out the back was stunning. The townhouse had comfortable beds and plenty of linens. The kitchen was reasonably equipped, but could have included more cookware and a sharp knife would have been nice. The resort was wonderful. We were able to go kayaking on Lake Superior, standup paddle boarding, family kayaking on Caribou Lake, and had a bonfire on the beach. The staff was great and the paddling guides were fantastic!

Our family has stayed at the private cabins located on this property on several occasions. First of all everything here is just gorgeous. The Lodge itself is quirky and original, which I find so interesting. I can't comment on the rooms here at the main facility, but the pool is large and my daughter loves swimming here. The bridges on the property lead to interesting trails. They even accommodate walk-in swimmers if the Lodge is not full. The cabins are expensive, but beautiful with ample views (shown), and well stocked with everything you need for a comfortable stay. I also enjoy photographing the mushrooms that sprout up here in the fall on the property. I hope to come back in the years to come.

Really pretty resort set in the hillside. Nice indoor pool with large outdoor deck over looking lakesuperior. Fresh water river with trout fishing and nice beach area. The red covered bridge is pretty as well!

Favorite place I've stayed on the North Shore! We stayed at their Poplar River Condos with 7 adults and 3 kids and it was the perfect setup for us! The lodge with swimming pool and game room was just a short walk along the lake and over the river. Bonfires/Smores on the beach, live music in the lodge, kayaking, fly fishing, golfing… So much to do and it's all organized beautifully!

We stayed in one of the Sea Villas this past weekend. We were at the resort for my brother's wedding. Overall it was a pleasant experience. I did find that our server for breakfast on Friday and Saturday was not the friendliest. Also I felt the prices for dinner in the dining room for Friday nights dinner were a little high, but overall I enjoyed myself and would recommend the resort to friends.

Wonderful stay! Condos are amazingly well stocked and the views can't be beat. Staff is extremely accommodating and friendly, going above and beyond in service. Good hiking, great beaches. We will be back.

This is one of my favorite places on the North Shore! We've stayed in the Sea Villas, Poplar River Condos and the 2 Bdrm cabins. We've never been disappointed. Great pool/ hot tub with glass dome allows for great views of Lake Superior. Covered bridges and walkways are great for exploring. Enjoy a meal in the beautifully rustic dining room in the main lodge. Great for extended family vacations!

The hospitality from the staff at this North Shore resort is incredible! They seem to be always going the extra step to make you feel at home :) We came here for a wedding tour to see if we would like our wedding venue here. I have to say I was already leaning towards this place for location itself, beautiful Lake Superior and the fall colors! But what really sold us was the staff. They continuously went above and beyond our entire 5 day stay. Whether it was the front desk, dining service, event coordinator, and every one in between! The food was amazing! My fiance is a professional chef and it was important to him to have high quality food for our wedding day. The food here exceeded our expectations! The final touch was how eco conscious the resort is. Very important to me to see the steps they take here to minimize their footprint! Super happy with our choice to book our wedding here!

Classic family friendly resort right on the shore of Lake Superior. Skiing is easy with shuttle bus service, front door to steps from the gondola. A great vibe lobby with live music both the Saturday and Sunday we were there. Bring your wine or snacks or get some in the Pub and sit and relax with your family and friends, chat or read or play a board game. This is a historic building with old pine wall paneling and beams, the Wi-Fi is good, the staff is great and very helpful. Food is a little more expensive, but it's convenient and good tasting. My favorite place on the north shore — experience history!

Had a package deal with Mountain Inn and had breakfast vouchers for the Continental Buffet. Option to upgrade to full buffet for $5 more. One drink (coffee/tea OR juice) included. Great views and nice rustic lodge feeling. Friendly service and great view of Lake Superior. We did not stay here so this review is only regarding the breakfast.

Stayed NYE just to sleep. Radiator heating was insufficient (possibly not operating). Messed with the knob per instructions but nothing happened. Didn't turn on once. Had blanket and pillows so slept with those in addition to bedding. Not sure I'd call anywhere a resort that doesn't have modern amenities. Woke up for the breakfast buffet. Food was average quality from the buffet. Understaffed to the point of not even getting one water refill from our server within one hour. Sufficient place to sleep, but would have had better or more updated everything at a basic hotel. Not a bad stay, but a bit disappointing for the price.

The resort is next to lake superior and has nice views. We didn't stay there. We went for dinner. The restaurant was not open until 5:30 pm for dinner. But there is a pub which was open. The quality if food was very good and price was reasonable. We ordered cream of wild rice soup and chicken artichoke pizza and both were delicious. The pizza was spicy and I loved it. There is a gift shop and a game room there too. There is a nice fire place in the lobby which is very good in cold winter time.

This was a cute resort and we were happy yo find it. We'll stay again when we Ski at Lutsen but the 3 star review is because on this particular visit we went to ski on Friday morning around 9am and when we returned in the afternoon our hotel room was left wide open. All of our personal belonging were left exposed and on display… and the room wasnt even cleaned. I had left my purse and everything else in the room. I called the front desk and left a complaint but the when I went outside again the cleaners weren't even at our villa so they had gone down 3 houses to clean while leaving our room wide open. I have never had an experience like that. I'll assume it was an accident.

Great stay! Rooms were cozy, they upgraded us to the lake side view for free. I think it helped that we might have been the only guests.

We rented a cabin for a week in July. Great location with so many things to do nearby. The cabin was clean, comfortable and well maintained. The deck had a great view of Lake Superior and felt private even though other cabins are right next door. We signed up for some of the included resort activities — highly recommended. As a family, we especially enjoyed paddle boarding on Lake Caribou, our guide and instructor was excellent. No equipment or experience needed — just sign up and let the resort take care of the rest.

We stayed in the log cabins at the resort and they were cute and fun. Beautiful location close to Temperance and Cascade parks. We signed up for the free guided kayak tour along the lake which was amazing. You must sign up for them in advance. The disc golf course was a nice beginner course that allowed my family with little experience to have a blast on it. The staff is friendly and helpful. The pool was well maintained. These are all reasons why my family comes back to this resort so much.

Had a Lunch with my family and it was a great experience. We left our bag accidentally but came to know once we are back home. The staffs responded with utmost care and mailed our bag. Thanks to them. Looking forward to stay in this resort next summer as well.

We stayed in the Sea Villas a few miles up the road but visited this main resort regularly. Everything is upscale and probably a bit better than you imagine. The main reception is handled by friendly staff and is large with comfortable seating. Restaurant food is very good and the bar/pub is quite cosy. Good pool and Jacuzzi.

Our family stayed here during a trip to the North Shore. A few days prior we called to change the details to our stay and they were so helpful and informative. Upon arrival, we were very impressed with the quality of rooms, the amenities, and the staff here. Our stay was wonderful, we would highly recommend for families and couples, and we will definitely be coming back!

The location is simply perfect. We have a beautiful view of Lake Superior through our picture windows. Our room is well appointed and comfortable. Pretty much the only bad thing I can say is that our upstairs neighbors' kids were noisy.

Stayed at the Poplar River condos on the hottest weekend in July. Due to them calling themselves "luxury condos" we made the mistake of not verifying the presence of air conditioning. It was over 90° outside, and we were stuck in a unit with 1 ceiling fan. I get it though — these units would probably only need air conditioning for a few weeks in July/August, and so it doesn't make sense for them to have them. That said, I wish I would have known prior to coming up that there wouldn't be an AC unit in the building — I probably would have packed a fan. I called the front desk upon arrival to see how/what they handle/offer their guests of the "luxury condos" on the hottest days of summer. The front desk attendant was unapologetic and offered no suggestions, remedies, fans, water, or anything other than, "well, it cools down at night". I would have expected an, "I'm sorry, we would really only need it for maybe 1 week a summer, but because you're here this week let me give you a fan, bottled water, and a big bag of ice delivered to your room. " That would have been 5 star, luxury service. The Poplar River condos do not even have an ice machine in them (unless your unit has a kitchen), so drinking ice water to stay cool is out. Otherwise than this mishap, Lutsen Resort is absolutely fantastic. The charming lodge, the planned activities and thorough recreational amenities make this a great place for a North Shore vacation.

Accommodations were fine, food was great BUT front desk (Bob in particular) fell well short of the quality we expect from Lutsen Lodge. From the moment we walked in there was no greeting, no "can we help you", no acknowledgment whatsoever we were even there. Once my husband said hello, Bob was argumentative at best when we asked if we could possibly check in early. We're told in so many words that company policy prohibits that etc. We left and came back. Upon check in, noticed our rate was higher then quoted when reservations were made. The lady assured us at check out, a credit would be made. Upon checkout with Bob, we noticed no credit was given. Another "discussion" ensued with Bob telling us there would be no credit. When we informed him of what we were told at check in, he then looked on computer and said "a credit will be applied for being misquoted a rate. " While waiting in line, we could hear other customers having issues and arguments with Bob over wrong rates… People very upset. Again, beautiful setting, great bar and restaurant. Experience at check in/check out was not a good experience. Bob should not be handling guests, we witnessed a number of guests have issues with him. He has zero etiquette or customer relations skills. Lutsen Lodge guests deserve better.

I loved my stay here. I had a lakeview room, which I recommend for the price. The sound of the waves was soothing, the windows open to let in the fresh breeze, and the view was beautiful. The bathroom was a little small, but after all, the hotel was built in 1885. The room, as well as the hotel, was made of logs. The hotel reminded me of The Awahnee Inn in at Yosemite, but for a fraction of the price. The pool was enormous, and the grounds were spectacular, with a waterfall and a river emptying into the lake. The food was first rate and the staff were all very helpful and friendly. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Rustic & charming. We've been absolutely delighted by the cabin feel of our small lodge room, the number of activities at the lodge and in nearby areas, and the incredible staff throughout the building. This is a definite WIN for a simple, relaxing, and fun vacation.

The activities are amazing and they are included in the price. Its hard to decide, hiking, day camp for kids, tons of other activities just for the kids, kayaking, hanging out at the lake. Whats nice is the lake activities are at near by lake which is much warmer and less unpredictable as lake superior. Everyone has been so nice. Stayed in lake side sea villa, view is nice but site is not very descriptive that each of the cabins are connected. This for us was disapointing as we were hoping for privacy. Also the cabins are 2.5 miles from the lodge making it a trek if you sign up for activities or want to dine at the lodge. Close to trails, including paved bike trails. Get the family package, it will save you a ton on food if you eat at the lodge. You can get breakfast and wonderful dinner. Free Wi-Fi, board games in the cabins.

I can not say enough good things about this resort. Every interaction we had with an employee was outstanding. They obviously do a great job hiring and training all of their employees because everyone's customer service skills were outstanding. We stayed here for four nights between Christmas and New Years 2015. We stayed in one of the Cliff House Townhomes. It had plenty of room for all 6 of us and was very nicely furnished. The main lodge is very welcoming with the fireplace and comfortable seating. Our four boys (ages 12 — 21) used the pool, hot tub and rec room almost every night after we returned from skiing. The activities department has snowshoes and cross country skis you can check out at no charge. Since we stayed in a Townhouse, we did not try their restaurant so I can not comment on it. We were impressed by all aspects of this resort and would highly recommend it to anyone! Thank you for helping us have a GREAT family vacation!

Was just there this past weekend for a girls getaway weekend and we stayed at one of the cabins. Beautiful place with amazing view of Lake Superior. The cabin was clean and kitchen is spacious. Staff was very nice and informative of daily activities. Will definitely stay there again.

I look forward to our family's return, a annual ski adventure. It is old and wonderful, the prices are reasonable for staying in a wonderful cozy lodge on lake Superior. We love Lutsen Lodge and have been coming for 11 years to enjoy a 3 night stay for the price of 2. It is a fun tradition!

This was the second time I have stayed at the resort loved it the first time so I thought I would bring my 2 daughters, 2 daughter in-laws and my 3 granddaughters with this time. We stayed in one of the Two Story Villas. All of us had a "FABULOUS" time. My girls were so impressed with the accommodations and the view we had from our room. We had such a good experience we are planning on making this into an annual trip. Needless to say we will definitely be back, hopefully next time for a longer stay. Thanks to everyone who made our stay so welcoming and fun and for being a part of my families memories for years to come.

Stayed in the main lodge. Layout is strange and finding the room was difficult. Should have been the first red flag. It was a 300 level Room but the entrance is in the 100 level? Room itself was old with minimal amenities. Barely any hot water or water pressure. Toilet liked to run. Not a problem but not environmentally friendly. No a/c during the humid summer. 2nd night decided to switch to a condo. It was called a premium waterview unit. More like sliverview. Could barely see the lake between the woods and the building. Nicer room for sure but It was still overstated. Only good thing was the location right on the lake and activities.

The rooms do not look like the pictures on the website. The website makes them look way better; they are shabby and cramped. The wood on the walls was rough and icky. There were 2 chairs and a tiny table by the window — it was so cramped you had to move the chairs to open the armoire to see the TV. Things did not work right — our bathtub would not drain and our TV was so fuzzy we could not stand to watch it. We tried watching a DVD, but that didn't work either. The bathrooms are really small too and have no ventilation. There are problems with their heating system — it was 90 degrees everywhere in the building. There was a lot of noise in the hall — the sound carries right through the doors, which are small and low. Someone was moving furniture above us; I can't imagine what that was all about. Everything in the whole place seems to be from the 1800s. The floors squeak like mad. We were in a room in the main lodge. There were people partying and laughing and being loud by the fire on the beach — really late — 1 — 2 in the a. M.

Had a great time at this resort on a family long weekend in July. The dining room serves phenomenal food for being a "resort". I tried a ribeye. My wife tried the seafood fettuccini and thought it was very good. She loved the scallops the most. The pesto mashed potatoes that came with the ribeye were delicious, but I wasn't crazy about the sauce on the ribeye. It reminded me of brown gravy (of which I am not fan).

Lutsen is creating artificial scarcity preventing you from using your LivingSocial deals claiming they are all booked so you can't reserve any unit with your discount. But, they will accept a reservation for full price. So they do have availability if you pay full price, but don't if you try to use your LivingSocial deal. Go figure, all weekends are full for the discounted price, but they have openings if you pay them full price. Different from blackout dates, this this is a modern day bait and switch where you think you are purchasing something but get something else. Beware of this practice when considering the purchase of their LivingSocial deals. You may need to pay much more to stay there.

We like it. Two problems: Coffee maker was broken and, the refrigerator were not working.

Stayed at the Sea Villas about 3 miles South of the main resort. It would have been a bad deal at half the price. Old crappy furniture and nothing fancy about the townhouse. After we pulled up through the gravel parking lot we knew we had made a mistake. For $300 a day we just had way higher expectations. Made us pay the entire balance for our visit at the time of check in. Would not have done that if I had seen the Townhouse. Wanted to leave the last night but they would not give our money back. Shop around, you can do a lot better for the money.

Not recommended. Bad service, and in poor form they delete any post that is critical of them even if well-founded and admitted by their clerks. And no they didn’t bother to contact me despite their promise to do so. So why am I annoyed? I purchased a deal, and arrived to the picturesque location and presented coupon. All seemed well until the next morning. Was planning on getting an early start hiking but there was an error with my fully prepaid stay I was told. Apparently, they accidentally refunded my stay the night before instead of charging me the tax I owed. So I called my bank to verify — nothing on record I was told. Bob the rep. Told me I needed to re-pay for my (already prepaid) stay. After an hour plus confirming that I did actually get the credit so that I knew I wasn’t paying twice I repaid. At this time I was annoyed, but accidents happen. But then Bob did something frankly creepy he went so far as to suggest one of my companions requested the refund, but only so when said companion walked out to pack the car. The problem was, Bob was trying to cover his butt. I had been there the whole night before, and besides random people can’t dictate what you do with MY CARD. His attempt to deflect the blame was cowardly at best, and the promise of a perk for my patience that never materialized was even worse. As a result of this delay we ended up getting rained on for the last 30 min of the hike and I never heard back for a mistake they admitted was theirs.
