Do not stay here. Worst experience ever. Not only was the lady super rude when we checked in, but our room was terrible.
For starters you try to walk in, and you have to use force to get the door open. Then as you walk in, you get smacked in the face by the smell of mildew. (Which I am allergic too as well as black mold, which there was). And I noticed all the windows were wide open (probably to try and air out the smell).
Tried to take a shower, the shower head was messed up, it shooting out backwards
There was bugs everywhere!
Then our toilet was plugged, and I had the hardest time getting ahold of someone to help me get it unplugged.
I am so tempted to just sleep in the car.
Do NOT waste your money here.

Worst experience ever! We arrived and our room was disgusting! Black mold in several places, cobwebs everywhere, the floor wasn't vacuumed, the tub was disgusting amd not clean, and our air conditioning didnt work. The room was just plain disgusting and not clean. Not to mention the pool room was filthy and had cobwebs everywhere, broken equipment, and the floor was broken in several places. I had a baby with me and expressed my concerns and they didn't seem to care one bit. We ended up leaving and finding a much better hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE! See comments for pictures.

Clean room at a cheap price. I'll be back next year.

Newly renovated, nice clean rooms, awesome beds! but the staff… they are awesome, just the sweetest people. They even fixed my car. Really helped us out a lot. Sometimes you need to keep trying the desk cuz they wear multiple hats there. Eveyone helps out with everything. Great little family run. We will be coming back!

Stayed when they were just opening for season, pretty sure they close in winter, so many things were not ready, hot tub and outside pool not open yet, indoor pool not warm, freshly painted though by the paint it left on my swimsuit. First room was not cleaned and had no towels, friendly girl working made sure next room was cleaned before we got back from dinner, heat/ac, tv, internet all worked fine, tub drained a little slow like almost every other motel we've been to. Hot breakfast was nice. Friendly owners were remodeling rooms starting with upper floor. Within walking distance to everything in city was great.

The location is not far at all from downtown and the staff was extremely friendly. The rooms and furniture, etc. Was all outdated, but it did not have a negative impact on our stay. Compared to the prices at all of the other hotels/motels in the area Great Lakes Inn has a good recommendation from me.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. This hotel is not worth your time or money — I wouldn’t even pay $60 for a room. Our hotel rooms door was falling off the hinges. The hotel was clearly empty, so we went to ask the front desk if we could switch rooms to a different one. She stated they were completely booked full, even though there were only 5 other cars in the parking lot. When we explained to her that our door is falling off the hinges, she told us she’s call her manager but we’d have to stay in the room until then. She was extremely rude and not friendly, absolutely ZERO customer service whatsoever! Talking to us at all was an inconvenience to her. The fact that we paid any money for this place at all is appalling.

Had to ask for towels and toilet paper that house keeping didn't provide although they changed the bedding. The towels replenished had fresh blood on them and personally returned to the front office. Fresh towels received minus an apology from owner. Not sure where the breakfast area in the pictures posted are from.? Blood on two of the fresh towels? I'll pass…

Clean rooms but so many bugs outside and whenever you open the door they come inside the room. I liked the service and they also provided breakfast and internet had some speed but not good.

Wonderful hotel! Affordable. Mom and Pop place. Very friendly, and American! My room was clean. They are remodeling some of their rooms so there is construction stuff around, but new rooms means newer cleaner amenities! My favorite part was the heating and cooling system worked really well and wasn’t noisy, you don’t find that often hotels. It is within walking distance to Mackinac Island ferries and Mackinaw City.

What a dump. So not stay here. Dirty rooms. Cigarettes in my toilet. Obviously from the maid who does a horrible job. Dead batteries in the remote. TV with no signal. No one ever answers the phone at the front desk. I guess the first sign should have been that one of the rooms had about 5 liqour bottles in the window. If it was not for this awful MOTEL it would have been a perfect visit. Honestly not even worth 1 star.

Great rooms. Very clean! Friendly staff excellent room service. The indoor pool & hot tub were awesome! Really enjoyed our stay!

The hotel is well located near the pier. Rooms are decent and I stayed for 3 nights with no complain.

The picture on Line was much better than the actual motel. I've seen better, seen worse. The staff was pleasant.

Wish I could say it was nice. Hot tub moldy and empty, pool gross and hand rails falling off, room absolutely filthy, I had to go get cleaning supplies myself to clean the toilet myself, coffee maker had a fly in it fridge was filthy. Could say more but was just so so unhappy for 100.00 a night.

The continental breakfast was hard to find and had a poor selection. Nothing warm but toast and nothing good to drink except poor coffee and mediocre oj. Hotel not worth the money.

I would not recommend this place. First off, we walked into our SMOKE FREE ROOM, and were rudely greeted by a strong smoke odor. The towels also had yellow stains on them, and the room was dirty. Lastly, the beds weren't very comfortable and the breakfast was minimal.

Not the greatest place to stay, moldy beer smell in our room, took forever to get what we asked for (extra pillows and new towels because no one cleaned our room) Breakfast was a couple doughnuts. Out door pool was freezing, indoor was dirty. "Spa" was decommissioned with a puddle full of bugs. Too expensive for the service provided.

The rooms were alright. Beds were comfortable, however the Wi-Fi is really unreliable and super slow and the tub wouldn't drain.

Good for the price but not a up to a standard in Mackinac city. Property seems to be under maintained. Manager seems to not care either. Hope it gets fixed.

Honestly, I don't know how anyone could give this place a high rating. I paid too much for what kind of motel it is. The room is crappy and has bugs in it. They couldn't even make the bed well. I left a souvenir in the room and I called about it and nobody answered so I left a message. They blocked my number!

My room was well cleaned and spacious, the service was top notch and the employees friendly. The environment was quiet and comfortable and provided easy access to the downtown area and ferry. I enjoyed my stay.

Should have spent the other $20 for a better hotel. Room smells like mold and mildew, Wi-Fi doesn't work, both pools and the hot tub are filthy (Not to mention cold because the warm water hadn't been turned on) and haven't been cleaned in God knows how long and to top it off everything in the rooms are dirty and in serious need of updating. Staff is friendly but not friendly enough for me to come back or overlook other serious details. Also claims to not be pet friendly but the owners dogs run around barking at everyone and everything. Children's area is full of trash that you can tell has been mowed over and not picked up. Free breakfast consisted of stale cereal and mini muffins and no one was there for check out and we were told we had to wait to check out. Completely absurd. Please don't make the same mistake I did and go to a different place!

Everything was unclean, the rooms smelled moldy and stale even the outside area by their swings was covered in litter. The pool very cold and filthy, outside pool was extra horrible, scrum on sides. The "hot tub" was as cold as pool. They had family staying in rooms and dogs on property even though it's dog free. The Wi-Fi was also down… bottom line pay the little more for a nice place in this nice town.

Friendly lady at the lobby. Hotel was advertised as $54. It's outdoor sign said Walk In Special. She said it was $146 for July 4th weekend but would give it to us for $99. We got a non-smoking room. It was clean but very musty smelling. TV remote didn't work, she said nothing about a continental breakfast. The best thing about it was in walking distance to downtown shops.

The rooms were quite clean and reasonably furnished. The breakfast options were a little limited. But makes for a decent option for overnight stay.

Everything was good except for Wi-Fi. It did not cover my room.

To begin I hate to even give this place one star. The rate we found online for the weekend was $54. When getting the room they charged $75.59 for the night! We went to our room and it was extremely hot and humid in there. In the bathroom we found mold around the toilet and a water spot with mold on the ceiling above the sink. When turning the faucet on in the bathroom it leaked all over and the shower head leaked from multiple spots. You could tell they tried fixing it with silicone rather than just getting a new shower head. When confronted about all these issues the lady at the front desk didn't apologize, she made excuses, then made me show her the room. When viewing the room she told me there was not mold anywhere that it was just the grout peeling up and she'd have to tell the maintenance man and housekeeping about the issues. Never not once did she offer us anything back to make it right, she just rushed off acting like she was concerned about a possible leak upstairs. Listen to my warning, do not stay here, go to the super 8 up the road. They have clean rooms and free breakfast for the same price!

$100 bucks for the night the room is okay but the pool is disgusting and the hot tub is freezing also dirty and bugs just pool area is just nasty and no one is at the front desk or answering the phones.

Paid $368 for 2 nights in a king jacuzzi room, tried canceling my reservation 2 days prior couldn't get through to anyone on the phone got stuck flipping the bill. Room was filled with mold and bugs in the jacuzzi. I drove from Flint Mi for a honeymoon weekend for this… will never come back, and will be arguing for a refund of some sort. Managers response to the mold was just to keep the bathroom door closed. Didnt offer to change rooms, didn't offer a refund, and didn't really seem to care. Not a happy person here. I've been dodged by the owner who is now wanting to only refund one night when I paid for 2. Well that's not going to fly, she passed HER problem off to a house keeper who shouldn't have to deal with it. In room 101 you will find black mold, and bugs in the jacuzzi. Be wise don't stay here, Carol is shady and does not care about the customers. Forget this hotel, I pray anyone reading this review takes me seriously this is absurd.

There was mold in the bathroom of room 101! My husband paid over $300 for the room for two nights! Wouldn't refund us the full amount when we only stayed one night! Owner dodged us for 7 hrs.

Friendly staff with easy check in/check out! Located in southern Mackinac City, Mi. Not quite like it was 43+ years ago BUT has changed hands a few times.

We stayed here two nights. Our experience here was nice. The rooms were clean, the motel staff was friendly and helpful, and the chek-in and check-out were smooth. My only misgiving was that the walls were'nt exactly soundproof, but the folks next door didn't stay up late, so it really wasn't an issue. I appreciate the location — south of the Mackinaw City stuff, so we're not right in the middle of it, but not too far.
