Very disappointing. Room old and carpet stained with 2 ft long tear/snag in it. Plastic food wrapper and dirt and dust along edge of bed, clearly visible. Towels had odor. Went to go to bed, no fitted sheet on bed! Waited 20 minutes for housekeeping to bring one before we could go to bed. Issue with elevators, guests were getting stuck in them. For a hotel with such an impressive reputation, was highly disappointing. Most of staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, except for check-out desk clerk. Never bothered to inquire about the stay, I think she knew what she would hear.

My husband and I came here to celebrate our 27 year anniversary. For such a well-reputed hotel, we were very disappointed on many fronts. We arrived after 7pm to find that our room was not ready. We decided to grab a drink while we waited and were greeted by Dennis in the lobby, who could not tell us if the bar downstairs was open. When we found that it was open, it took three tries for them to make a dirty goose martini. Three. When our room was finally ready, we proceeded upstairs to change for a relaxing trip to the hot tub before dinner. Well, the ADULT hot tub was closed and the FAMILY hot tub was overtaken by swarms of loud, rambunctious children. We had a wonderful dinner at Ruth’s Chris that night, which was attached to the hotel. But, back at our room, we climbed into bed only to discover a huge piece of hard plywood under the mattress! We just started laughing at that point. We were in total disbelief that the ‘best’ hotel in the city could have been outdone by a Motel 6.

I went to this hotel for a weekend with a group of people. My three friends & I stayed in a hotel room with two queen beds. The custodial staff came in to clean the room (and barely cleaned it at that) and only did our roommates beds. They threw the stuff my two friends had left on the bed onto ours & left a note that said they couldn’t make our bed because we had items on top. Also, we asked for pillows and they never brought us some smh. Anyways it was a fun weekend so yeah this hotel is cool.

Beautiful hotel with lots of restaurants and shops. I stayed in the older part of the hotel and thought the rooms were very spacious, clean, and in great shape. The bed and pillow were very comfortable as well. The fitness center is huge and has dumbbells up to 70 lbs, a squat rack, and curl bars up to 100 pounds just to name a few. The down side of the fitness center location next to the pool was that I had to scare the little kids off that kept wandering it with their wet swimming suits. Overall, a very nice hotel with a great location downtown. Great staff as well.

Very modern up to date room. Love that its a shower not a bath tub. The fitness pool area was very nice. Fitness center has something for any workout. The hotel is situated in a perfect spot to walk by The river or around town. Quite a few restaurants within walking distance. Only thing I could say bad. Warm thw pool up more please. The toilet in the room was loud.

Great customer service! My husband is "the funniest man on Earth" and he always books my stays under Mrs. McFarts. I'm not kidding. The receptionist was wonderful and professional. Stay strong and don't break, that's just what he wants! Also, the historic building is beautiful! Great downtown location! The late-night food selection is nice as well.

Amazing. I love this place. The gym and pool are good. They have continental breakfast for about 20 dollars but well worth it. The rooms were spacious. Can't really say anything bad about this place. I would recommend.

I always enjoy going to the Grand Plaza, you go visit the many shops and restaurants in the hotel or go to the spa and many more amenities. I have stayed in the hotel and had a nice relaxing time. I also visit the Grand Pearl Spa to get facial treatment and other things skin related. There is also a surgery center for any needs concerning the cosmetic options. Very nice, clean facility with caring professionals.

As a West Michigan native, the Amway has always been a point of reference for directions and a staple in the community, especially during ArtPrize and before big running events where people congregated excitedly in the gorgeous lobby. However, I had never stayed. Until recently, the rooms of the hotel were a mystery to me. Don't get me wrong, they're absolutely beautiful, the layout is nice, and the view of the river is exceptional — a really nice perspective on the city I know well. However, when checking in, we had to wait two and a half hours for our room — after the check-in time. Reception told us that the time was not a guarantee, and we waited in the main floor restaurant with all of our bags. Once we finally got into our room, it hadn't been cleaned. Someone had to be cleaning as we were moving in, rushing to get ready for a concert. The television in one of the rooms also had to be repaired while we were in there, and I found wrappers and uncleaned areas even after maid service left. They offered us a $100 gift card and a slight discount on one of the rooms, which is the big reason for the three-star review (instead of a lower one). For as much as you pay for your stay, things like what happened in my experience should not be occurring.

If you get a Tower room you will likely enjoy this hotel much more. Pantalind rooms are significantly smaller, old and dingy. Some may say that there is a slight charm and historical significance in this section of the hotel but I much prefer the amenities and location of Tower rooms. It almost feels like your are a second class citizen being relegated to the old section. The hotel bath products are unappealing and seem cheap, as well. I enjoy trying new, luxurious products during a hotel stay but do not care for the shampoo, soap or lotion. I realize this may not be a bid deal as they are free, but I share this to give you advance notice to bring your own. The hotel is a great location and I attend many conferences here, so I continue to come back for the convenience factor. I do not typically write poor reviews, so I am trying to be balanced. Positives are clean rooms, nice pool, free gym, staff is friendly, and service is good.

What a beautiful hotel… Hilton always knows how to properly upkeep a unique hotel in its curio collection I believe it’s called. Hilton has so much money that if anything breaks or a chandelier falls or whatever it may be, it can be replaced. This is why I love when hotels as rich and fancy as the Hilton take over older buildings, because they know how to keep it properly maintained beautifully. Hilton, keep doing what you’re doing. Next time I visit grand rapids, i’ll stay here 100%. Thank you for the beautiful hotel and the modern/historic room choices.

This place is really something. My husband and I were there for a marriage conference. It has so many attractions within the hotel and is within walking distance of many great restaurants. The hotel also has a historic and a modern side. We had our choice and chose the historic side. It was very cozy and homey. We loved it and will be back, some time in the future.

The hotel is wonderful. Samantha, at the front desk, checked us in and was awesome! Restaurants are nicely located within walking distance. Plenty to see and do close to the hotel, and no worries walking the sidewalks after dark. GR is a great city, and close to many other great cities in the area!

The view was amazing from our room, we could see all of downtown. All of the staff is friendly, the valet is quick, and the in-house restaurants serve delicious food. You can also call down to any of the in-house restaurants and they will provide delivery to your room, and they are fairly quick about it. Overall the experience is unique, you are treated like the most important person in the building. Definitely a great stay.

A classic old hotel in downtown Grand Rapids. Great place for a wedding reception or romantic weekend. There is an old part of the hotel and a new part. The old part has more charm although some of the rooms are very small and poorly laid out. The new part has less charm but is where the fitness center — which is not 24 hours — is located. There are several restaurants in the hotel although some of them seem to keep odd hours as does the shop where you can buy snacks and gifts. Beautiful views of the city.

Beautiful downtown hotel with the Hilton properties. Access to many popular and large venues through indoor 2nd level tubes, which is a huge help during the long, cold Michigan winters. The ample lobby areas are impressively decorated with huge chandeliers, large floral arrangements and indoor fountains. Our room was very spacious (the bathroom was tight) and the decor and furniture was gorgeous. I would call it a 5 star property! And we would love to return. There are several top notch restaurants attached and meeting/banquet facilities galore.

Nice older hotel. The rooms were clean and spacious. The hotel is involved with green living and the give you $5 a day voucher if you participate while staying which was nice as it paid for my morning Starbucks coffee. There is a Starbucks and a couple of restaurants in the hotel. The Starbucks was busy but fast and the sports bar food was okay. I didn't like the fact that there were no refrigerators in the rooms and the AC seemed to only cool at night. It was not able to keep the room cool during hours of sunlight which was a huge issue for me since I stayed there during the middle of summer.

I felt very elegant inside… and I'm poor.

There are numerous reasons to be a visitor to the Amway Grand. My experience has been that the Ruth's Chris restaurant is an excellent dining experience. The hotel itself is majestic… lots to look at and many photo opportunities. You feel as if it could be 1917, if not for the modern clothing of the visitors. I recommend journeying to the Cygnus restaurant at the top of the hotel to take in breathtaking views of the city, even if you're not staying for dinner.

I absolutely love this hotel, and I stay here every time I visit Grand Rapids. It’s conveniently located and has many great amenities in or attached to the hotel itself. The lobby is elegant, the restaurants are top notch, and the rooms are nice, always clean, and comfortable. Also the staff is very friendly and helpful — I recently stayed for a few days and got an amazing room upgrade from the nicest receptionist.

I stayed here for a work event so I didn't spend a whole lot of time enjoying the amenities. However, the staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. In fact, I typically sleep with a fan and forgot it, I called the concierge and they brought one up to me in minutes. The room was very spacious and quiet. The bath towels seemed a little old, they definitely have lost their fluff. The elevators were a bit small and a bit of a pain having to scan your room key, especially when multiple people were riding and one card would only allow 2 floors to be chosen at a time. Overall, it was a good experience and I would stay their again.

The Grand Plaza was a great place to stay. I attended a professional conference there. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the staff was both friendly and professional. There are a number of restaurants located in the hotel, including a Starbucks, which made staying there very convenient. However, things were slightly more expensive than normal as a price of this convenience. The hotel takes up an entire city block, as it is compromised of 3 different buildings originally. This made navigating the different areas challenging, but the hotel had interactive touch screen maps posted in many locations, which helped a lot. The location of the hotel was fantastic. We were able to walk to the museums located near by, as well as a wide variety of restaurants and bars with live performances in the downtown area. The hotel also had a gender nuetral bathroom, which was a boon to the transgender members of our conference. I'm very happy I stayed there.

The staff was professional and courteous, and the lobby is amazing. I stayed in the old part of the hotel and they did a great job renovating. One thing that I wish they did better was sound insulation. I heard my neighbors pretty easily later at night. I didn't want to complain because I didn't think they were being excessive, it was just easy to hear them. Also, the outlet situation could be better. Overall, despite the exquisite setting, I feel like the room could be more comfortable.

Very nice, but also old (historic. ) If your a tall/large person, this may not be the best place for you as it was built a very long time ago. But again, it's very nice and in a great location downtown GR.

Spotlessly clean, cheerful staff, good location riverside on edge of downtown, two very good museums — Gerald Ford and GR historical museum — just a gentle stroll across the footbridge. Interesting building joining old and new. Food very ordinary and attached Wolfgang Puck kitchen and counter truly underwhelming for me although local reviewers are more sympathetic. Very helpful concierge, efficient valet parking. Our stay in Grand Rapids definitely enhanced staying here. For sure, the ‘headquarters ‘ hotel in this interesting midwestern city.

The room was a corner river view which was very nice. Rooms were just the right size, no wasted space. The placement of electrical outlets did not make charging things very easy. We did not use any of their services. The people at the front desk we're very pleasant and helpful with big smiles even though they were very busy.

This review is solely for the aesthetics of the hotel — Came here for ArtPrize 2017, as they regularly host several pieces each year. The hotel has a very classic feel (and as I'm told it continues up into many of the rooms, though some are without television), bringing you back to a time of nightly formal wear. Parts of their lobby have been renovated, with a bar/cocktail lounge offering up drinks. Given the style and feel I would love to come stay a night!

This is a classy place now renovated and modernized. We stayed at the historic (Pantlind) wing — which is awesome, at one point (1920s) was named one of the 10 best hotels in America. Enjoy the grandeur, elegance and decor of this place which was patronized by Kings, Queens, Presidents and Prime Ministers from around the world. The restaurants are also very good — food is amazing. And staff is super courteous and efficient.

I got a riverside room with the romance package to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday with him this year. From the moment we arrived, it was amazing. The staff truly cared that our needs were met. The room was clean. The view was beautiful. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in ever. It's just blocks from a great variety of bars and restaurants. I can't wait to come back again.

Went to the restaurant for our anniversary. It was Labor Day so most other places were closed. Our server was excellent. She was very knowledgeable about the different menu items for both food and drink. Both of our appetizers, and entrees were delicious. I would definitely consider returning next time I visit.

Stayed in the old side of the hotel. The room was interesting, not in a bad way. The shower head was not too low for me, a pleasant surprise. I liked the location in relation to other attractions in the area. Did not like that parking is not included and $30/day for parking is highway robbery. Best bet is to park across the river and walk in.

This hotel is absolutely fantastic. The staff goes above and beyond to make every stay perfect. The rooms are generous and the views are great. The restaurants on floor level are also superb. The fitness center features a large pool, two hot tubs, and an exercise room. The tower side rooms are modern and the other side are historical. Call if you have questions about the differences.

One of the best hotels we have visited. It was downtown and parking is very expensive but it is like that anywhere downtown GR. Valet parking was pretty quick especially calling down before you leave your room. We stayed on the older side, not by choice but it was a huge room. Clean which is very important. The evening shift Bellhop was awesome and very friendly. Food was good but not great.

A bit dated, but definitely recommended.

The overall complex is very nice. Staff is courteous and were helpful. Exercise and pool area great. Great choices for dining available on site and near by. We stayed in the Pantlind side of the hotel. Rooms are small and show their age, but nice. A weird sewer smell radiated from a mechanical and maids area near by but wasn't noticible in our room. If I were to stay there again I would try the tower side of the complex. It looked more modern and the pool/rec area is in that complex. Overall it is a nice place but maybe not worth the price. Parking is $24 additional and not included in your room rate.

Staff was very nice and the hotel is beautiful. Our room was in the Pantlind part of the hotel, the historical part, so it was decorated as it was when it was built. Some things have been updated through that part of the hotel, but we were not overly impressed with the accommodations. There was hair in our shower and the shower curtain was stained, so that was a little gross. The other parts of the hotel are gorgeous and the fitness center along with its' pool and workout areas are very nice. The signage directing you through its' incredible maze are horrible… Although we did have fun exploring trying to figure out where our room and the pool were.

The rooms were clean and the new tower had excellent views. The service was present when needed, but unobtrusive. Perfect for the long hours I spent with my business concerns. I was less than pleased about how the hotel staff looked down at other members of my cultural conference. I was deeply concerned with the hotel rerouting the access with to my conference because of a wedding. I'm also appalled that the quests of that wedding continously harassed our conference goers and trashed mutual restroom facilities. In all, the location, rooms and services were good. The response of the staff to diversity and the response to harassing behavior needs to be improved upon.

Great hotel! Top notch service and pristine accommodations. Loved the fitness facility with weight room, pool and steam room. In the beautiful downtown area, overlooking the river.

We stayed in the Pantlind wing. The room was beautiful and the bed was luxurious. We ordered a late night pizza that was mediocre for the price. We ordered in breakfast and it was also mediocre. We would have dined in the restaurant if we had known how lackluster the food would be in room.

I will start from the beginning. I walk up to the hotel and Seen employee using obscene hand gestures to a small gathering of people. I walk into the hotel and the front desk staff was polite and nice. I go up to my room and hear the room cleaning service using obscene language and talking loudly about personal issues of "messing people up. " (Heard this numerous times. ) Inspecting my room I find water damage and pink mold growing in the corner of the room with the paint bubbling and peeling. The antique chair support is broken and one side of it looks as if it were caulked together. The batteries on the remote are dead and the channel lineup on the complimentary card do not match what's on the television. Dust is built up in every corner of the room and the hotel. You can see the color difference just looking at it. Bathroom mirror was smudged up. Half of the power outlet by the window does not work. Had to switch the lamp outlet around. The water in the bathroom smelt like I was taking a shower in horribly treated pool water. To scared to brush my teeth. The elevators need to be cleaned daily. Hand prints and smudge marks everywhere. Went to ES Sports and bought dinner and a drink. Food was great. The captain and coke I had was bland and flat. Went to the Kitchen restaurant. Order 6 cookies, a salad, and a diet coke. Wait time was 30-45 minutes. The salad was warm and soggy. Walking out of the hotel and to my car to grab something, I find the police looking for someone.

It was beautiful and well maintained. I was only there to site see so really cant comment on staff or rooms. What I did see was really nice. Location was central to downtown and within walking distance of a lot of places.

Stayed here over the weekend for my sister's graduation. Excellent service, clean rooms, friendly staff and great food. You pay what you get for — truly looks and feels like a 5 star hotel because it is!

Everything was easy from check in to check out. Rooms were incredibly spacious and quiet. Ate at Wolfgangs The Kitchen and had a wonderful meal. Highly recommend both.

The rooms were nice, but we found a pair of underwear from the last guest in our room. There are beautiful lobbies and fountains, abd the meeting rooms were great, but there are also alot of stairs to walk up and down. On the bright side, there are restraunts nearby, and many other buildings are comnected, so no walking in the cold winter air.

The lunch offered was small and disproportionately expensive. Half way through the first day at lunch, they ran out of sandwiches. I told one of the people bringing out rplacement food, and they sticky told me "There are no more, that's all they ordered. " During mealtimes, most of the trash receptacles were overflowing before the end of the meal. For the conference sessions, there wasn't enough room to set our notes in most rooms. Lots of the session rooms had large visual obstructions in the middle of them, making it hard to see the presenter and presentation. In many cases, a river overlook room was used when gallery overlook rooms were left vacant, causing conference attendees to walk excessive distances. Overall, everything at the Amway is absurdly more expensive than the quality and service offered in return.

Arrived late in the evening after a long day of delays and cancellations due to bad weather. By the time I checked in all the available microwaves had been taken, but the hotel could heat up my food for a five dollar charge. After speaking to four different people about waiving the charge, and getting a "no" for an answer each time, I spoke to someone at the front desk who could waive the fee this one time, but made a condescending reminder that they will not do so in the future. A) It wasn't my fault all the microwaves were taken, B) Are you going to remember my face for "next time"? C) Most hotels have a microwave near the front desk for guests to use or have microwaves in ALL the rooms.

Lots of shops and such. A little pricey, but very in reach. Super clean. Cool place. Located near a bunch of restaraunts and such in town.

I attended a conference held at the Amwa you Grand Plaza. The numerous conference rooms were spacious and spotless. Hotel staff were always more than helpful with answering questions. Breakfast and refreshments were gourmet. This would be a place I would vacation at if I were to visit Grand Rapids again.

For billing itself as a high service hotel, it didn't live up to the reputation. Granted we stayed in the older wing, but the rooms were small, walls paper thin, and the room wasn't the cleanest. The restaurants and workout and pool facilities were nice which was it's saving grace.

It's expensive. The building is old, which is ok, but the fixtures in the room were ancient. The electrical outlets all seemed like they were one bad jostle away from killing someone. The TV was from the late 1990s and didn't work with the remote. The staff were friendly and the beds were comfortable. The lobby and main floor area are very nice looking.

The stay was amazing, the staff was very accommodating and professional. The room was clean and comfortable. Spending tume in the lobby was coffee is an experience all to its own.

The Grand Amway was a great modern hotel with a touch of art deco feel. I really loved the atmosphere and location as well. When I come back to Grand Rapids I will definitely be booking my stay at the Amway again.

The lobby area has a great charm, especially on the historic side of the building. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, and the staff is friendly. I also appreciated the extensive skywalks, as the evening experienced torrential rain for a few hours, and I could still get to numerous restaurants, including the many options in the hotel itself.

We were there for a choir performance that my son was in. The hotel and performance were beautiful and first class. We did not see any of the rooms or eat in any restaurants. Parking was affordable and convenient via skyway walk.

Fun place for a drink before heading out for the night. Great people watching area… Great bartenders… Comfy chairs :)

Overpriced for a room 1/2 the size of a standard Holiday inn room View? Lovely if you enjoy duct on the roof that lies in the middle. Bed, more like a twin. Room was dark, cramped and just not worth what we paid. Will find somewhere else to stay next time.

Everyone is super nice. My only issue was that the hot water was very hot… out of the cold water tap. We called the front desk and they sent the building engineer up within minutes. He informed us that you may have to run it for up to five minutes to get the cold water to flow. Not a huge deal. Just wished they would have told us before hand.

Great stay and great personnel! We left multiple items near the pool and locker rooms. The staff there not only identified it as ours, but happily delivered it to our room.

Hotel is very nice. Beds and pillows were far from comfortable. Room didn't have a refrigerator or HD channels. Also lighting in room was odd. No main light on ceiling. Other than that experience overall was great!

Wolfgang Puck simply sucks. Names don't matter. Whoever drove this abomination should be fired.

Second time staying, first for NYE party, 2nd for Art Prize. Love the Amway. Friendly staff, plenty of amenities. Weird but rememberable, the shower was like a warm water hug. My wife and I love coming here.

Order 2 cakes a year from the Amway Grand Bake Shop. The past 2 cakes have been disappointing. The first, The whip cream was gummy and had bits of gelatin in it. This last cake was ordered with vanilla frosting (confirmed on the order slip at pickup) but was done in chocolate. When you pay $43 for a cake, you should get what you want. Probably will go to a different bakery from now on.

We loved the experience of this truly "grand" hotel. The lobby, halls, rooms have been very clean and decorated with style while the staff are helpful and glad to help serve. We have stayed there a few times and will continue to return when we are in Grand Rapids! The unique shops, Starbucks and Ruth Chris Steakhouse under the same roof are perfect compliments to the luxury this hotel brings to downtown Grand Rapids.

Good location, comfortable. Staff was friendly Watch out for all the hidden fees. I stayed 2 nights and they managed to tack on an extra 140$ in taxes and parking that they didn't disclose to me before hand. Already an overpriced stay. Their internet is so slow, cant even read the news. Room was way too hot even after adjusting the AC The bathroom door doesn't lock, and theres no fan in the bathroom.

Visiting from another city. Nice hotel, great service. There's also allot of cool shops and restaurants in the area.

We had a wonderful experience at this hotel. The hotel is gorgeous and unique and the staff was wonderful. Such a warm, welcoming place.

I travel frequently and have stayed at hundreds of hotels. The Amway Grand is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at. It is not overly fancy. Instead it is welcoming, with lovely rooms, amazing staff, and a wonderful collection of amenities. The building is absolutely beautiful. I was here on business this trip and the conference facilities and food were great. I would absolutely consider vacationing in Grand Rapids in the future so that I could stay here again.

We got to the hotel about 20 minutes after check-in time and we were told our room wasn't ready yet and there was NO time frame for when it would be! This was a huge inconvenience because we had to get ready for and be at a wedding in less than an hour. We waiting about 45 minutes before we got a call that our room was ready, an hour after check-in time. I asked the front desk if they could give us a discount for not having the room ready, the best they could do was waive the parking fee. We left an hour late for the wedding and when we returned your parking garage was full, the garage we 'paid' to park at, so we had to go park somewhere else. Trying to sleep was also an issue as we could hear everything that the party next door was doing including talking, peeing, their cell phones ringing, etc…until about 3:30am. Around that same time, it sounded like a rodent was running around in the walls for about 15 minutes which also kept us awake.

I wanted to try and get a room/suite for my wedding next September and tried calling Amway 5 different times to try and get information. Each time I called I was told that someone would look into for me and get back to me, and each time no one ever did. When I first initially called there seemed to be availability, but since no one called me back to discuss and book. When I called this morning again, I was told there is zero availability. Some of the event staff was also very short and rude with me and also never called me back. I am very disappointed that I can't get a room for my wedding next year, but at this point I am fine with not staying at this hotel, and never will again.

Our great stay started with our bellhop who took us up to our room and showed us everything, including the cocktail area. We stayed on the 25th concierge floor, and it was fantastic. It exceeded all of our expectations, the cocktail hour with appetizers and drinks was a great spread and very delicious. We returned to our room to find it turned down, it was very comforting. We had dinner at Cignus and it was amazing, the view was spectacular! The continental breakfast doesn't begin to describe the wonderful breakfast that was waiting for us in the morning. Overall this is a very classy, very customer service oriented.
