Love the look love the art and the bar was so nice so is the staff. Had a wonderful dinner!

Amazing staff. Gary is super helpful. Our kids and us had super fun time in the 2nd floor lounge. The whole skywalk concept is amazing. Walking from hotel to the swim meet at the Y in the winter is super clever. Director Lindsay was super friendly helping out for every request. We will definitely stay here again if we come back.

We made a reservation for the wrong weekend and it was unfortunately non refundable. Luckily we live in Ankeny so we are close. My husband decided to let me (his wife) use the room for the night to have a nice relaxing evening. We have two small children so this was a nice quite night away. When I got to the hotel they had upgraded my room to a suite! It had a full living room, dining area, bar area, separate bedroom and bath. It was amazing! Comfortable bed, clean, and quite. Service was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Amazing place … they need to think about reopening their bar and restaurant like other hotels have in Des Moines.

This was the cleanest and coziest hotel I’ve ever stayed at! Seriously felt like home. Ross was working the front desk when we arrived and he was amazing! He recommended a great spot for dinner that ended up being one of the best meals I ever eaten! I look forward to staying here again.

The room and bathroom are smaller than a regular hotel but this is a 100 year old hotel! great historical info in the lobby. We loved it and will absolutely stay again! great location, within walking distance to great restaurants.

It was such a thrill to stay here. A beautifully renovated venue that is simply gorgeous. Gracious, helpful staff made our stay absolutely wonderful.

Very nice hotel but our room was very noisy with the heater clicking all night and making the worst noise, didt sleep much at all, also noooo free Wi-Fi in rooms but only in lobby.

We have stayed here twice now, once on a date date night and once with our 3 children. Both times have been a wonderful experience. The location is great… close to bars, restaurants, Brenton Skating Plaza, etc… as well as easy access to the skywalks. The renovation is beautiful. The suite we stayed in both times is so spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The lounge has great drinks and food, as well as entertainment throughout the month. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone for any occasion. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My family of 5 stayed in a "suite". The set up of this place is absolutely a waste of space and totally un-functionial. The coffe pot and refrigerator are at one end in a tiny room with no microwave and no water… you have to walk all the way to the other end… thru every other "space" (not sure how you can call them rooms with no doors and walls that don't even connect to ceiling) to the TINIEST bathroom to even get water. One bathroom. Located off the one "bedroom". No privacy. No common seating area where a group can enjoy even eating together. Pull out beds with no extra linen, blankets, or pillows already provided. One mirror. So have fun with more than one woman and a tiny closet bathroom trying to start the day. 3 t. Vs… 2 remotes. Really just not comfortable or equipped to accommodate multiple people at all… not a suite. Definitely not sweet. Good location though.

Great location in the center of downtown Des Moines. Walkable area to many great venues and restaurants. Farmers market literally a block away during the summer. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was larger than expected. Would definitely stay again!

The Savery hosted our company’s most recent women’s event, a happy hour for a group of 40+, in the Coda Lounge. They were incredibly generous and provided excellent hospitality. Various members of the staff came down to the lounge to greet not only the event planners but most of our guests, ensuring each guest was welcomed and had a cocktail in hand. We greatly appreciated the generosity and the exceptional experience made all of our guests say that we have to come back for more events this year! The Savery is a wonderful spot to host an event, and we will be back!

Our stay here was great! very clean and a very beautiful hotel! the staff here are super wonderful! I had a last minute cancel. They were super great with helping me out! the only thing for me was the bathroom being small. I do understand about the hotel being historical and cant do much more but the bathroom was still very nicely updated! location is great! only a 5 minute walk to wells Fargo center. A lot is around being with in a couple minute walk. I will be coming back the next time I'm in des Moines!

Great remodel considering how old the building is… cozy rooms with seriously naphappy beds! downtown @ hotel is very clean for a midsized city and the staff at the hotel were/are friendly and helpful! I got a breakfast coupon and was VERY HAPPY to find they served REAL BACON and NOT that turkey cardboard crap!

We really do love the Des Moines Savery Hotel; and especially appreciate the many kind people who go out of their way to welcome us and make us comfortable. Last weekend we returned to the Savery for our 50th Anniversary; and we say "Wow! " = Kim is top-notch at pleasing Guests, it's such a joy to meet Mike T and all your cool Staff Members, and so much fun being treated like royalty. What a great hotel when their wonderful Chef, Donald Garrett even spent time with us, shared interesting Savery history, and knew all about our happy memories — — along with the delicious meals he prepared. Thank you again for giving us more sweet memories at the Savery.

Stayed 3 nights at this Historic hotel has all the amenities for a higher en hotel however, not too practical for a frequent traveler. In saying that, I mean the lack of refrigerator and microwave in the rooms is a little inconvenient in opinion. In addition, your options for parking are the valet at $18 a day or the parking garage across the street at $11 to $12 a day. I opted for the less expensive public parking, not only did I save money on the daily rate; I also did not feel obligated to tip somebody for driving the rental car. Lack of refrigeration, I found myself running to the ice machine on the 8th or 10th floor. For some reason there is no ice machine on the 9th floor. I seem to be on a "clogged shower or tub drains streak" as this hotel had a drainage issue in the tub. No worries I called and they fixed right away (within 30 minutes). It was humorous as the maintenance man stated, "Chewbacca must have been in this room before you" and we both laughed. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are quiet. The staff was top notch! I arrived at noon, way early, and although the Studio King they were preparing for myself was not ready. They were able to get me into a King bed room at that time. Highly recommend just for the experience and if your in the area for entertainment at Wells Fargo Arena, then you are a walk away. Video of the room on the YouTube Channel and thank you for reading.

Historic Gem At The Heart Of Everything Down Town DSM!

Celebrated a birthday here with a long time friend. An cozy atmosphere in a friendly setting. Had my benchmark onion soup gratinee, which was up to my standard. A nice thick topping of cheese with layers of bread in a warm rich broth that had a hint of sweet from the caramelized onions. At the recommendation of my host, I.

The place is under construction, we walked the skywalks and were able to see it through their, it looks pretty neat.

The staff is very friendly. Amazing location. The hotel is beautiful. Love the history. It attaches to the skywalk for even more convenience. Just a couple of complaints… no bathroom counter space. Hoping renovation fixes that. Lastly I was a part of a scam incident where the bar staff gave out my name, room number and bill amount. Obviously I shared my concern the next morning and was just given an apology despite the fact I did not sleep well. Luckily nothing came of it other than a sleepless worried night. I hope to upgrade the review when it re-opens!

Initially I would have put 1 star, but after speaking with Mark Herron (the GM), I would put more. I did not stay as a guest at this hotel, but instead attended a conference for 4 days. On the second day, my friend offered me her key to use over lunch to pump. Upon getting to her room I realized the key did not work and went to the front desk. They could not let me in her room (a policy I completely understand given they don't know how I got the key). However, what transpired after was completely ridiculous. I asked if they had a location I could use. The man behind the desk said, "we have the bathroom". I proceeded to explain how I was uncomfortable using the bathroom and at several other conferences I've attended, they've simply allowed me to use an unoccupied room. He explained they were full and I could use the restroom. I again explained how the restroom was quite gross and asked if they had something else. When he said "no" again, I asked to speak to a manager. He claimed he was a manager (I later found out he is not). After a few more questions, I explain I believe there are laws regarding this (I later found out there isn't an actual law, just common "sense" in customer service industry) and ask to speak to another manager. In comes another "manager" who quite honestly was so condescending and rude I wish I could have recorded the interaction. He was so arrogant and rude I still get mad just thinking about it.

Thus hotel is fair to good. It has a long history, and has been renovated over the years. It's in the heart of downtown, so there are plenty of places to go to eat and drink. The bathrooms in the rooms are a little dated, but the beds are nice. Internet is unbelievably slow, especially in the evening hours when everybody jumps on.

Truly pathetic. Tiny, tiny rooms; rude apathetic staff; restaurant seldom available. We were told hotel was closing in August for renovations and a lot of their staff had left and they could not find short-term replacements. They had no problem, however, charging 3 star prices for a third rate dump.

I visited for a few hours downstairs at the lounge with the couple of friends. I ordered a pineapple juice and a pizza both were very good and the service good as well. There was a nice ambience and they offered Nintendo 64 GoldenEye downstairs is just awesome.

If I could leave no stars, I would. I was in Des Moines on April 26-30th for the Drake Relays. After checking in and having the hotel valet my car, I went to bed. The next morning I went to pick up my car and head over to the track. When the car pulled up, I walked out to discover that my roof was crushed and my windshield was broken. The manager came up to me and asked me what was wrong. After telling him that my car was not like that last night, he filled out a form and said the hotel would take care of me. They claim that some concrete chunks were thrown off the parking garage and crushed my car. The interesting part about that is there are no scratches on my roof. The insurance company did call me the same day, but I was unable to answer. I called back the same day and left a voicemail. The following day, I called and left another voicemail with no return call. I left three messages the following day and still didn't receive a call. Five days after the incident, I finally received a call from the hotel's insurance saying that they weren't responsible for the damage. The parking garage is owned by the City of Des Moines who also say they aren't responsible for the damage. So at the moment, I'm left with a smashed car and it's my fault and responsibility to fix it. I would never let them valet my car again. The parking lot is unsecure and has no cameras.

Great location, lobby and amenities are great. Only real complaint was with the awkward bathroom set up.

I attended a work function at the hotel and the services provided were very nice. The food and beverages served were very good. The amount of seating around a single table was too cramped though.

Just checked in and I'm next to the mechanical room. I fear it will be loud all night and I can feel vibrations from the floor in the bathroom. Concerned…

Well I was only in the lobby. They are holding free classes teaching about alcohol and mixing drinks. My friend Andrew Scheiwe teaches the class at 7pm every Monday.

Rooms were small with poor layout. Not much space in bathroom. Ridiculous 20% non-gratuity charge for room service.

The room is really nice. The old parts of the building they decided to keep (old mail chute) really add to the feeling of the stay. I wish they would have let me know that parking isn't free unless it is after 6pm.

Very nice stay! We stayed last night for our 3 year Anniversary. Class A place… to our surprise they sent up a complimentary champagne and strawberries for the wife. Thanks!

The check in staff was friendly. Our room was comfortable. Our pillows were terrible and didn't sleep well as couldn't get comfortable.

There was rust everywhere. Cockroaches on the floors. Lobby was beautiful but rooms were subpar.

The room was a bit smaller than expected, but the service was good. I had a problem with the air conditioner, but they had someone come up and fix it promptly.

Had a conference here. The service and food was good. Easy parking.

Bathrooms are unbelievably small. One person has difficulty getting ready in it. Staff was friendly and helpful other than that, not much good to say.

As a Marriott member and frequent visitor to DSM, this is always the place to stay. Nice rooms, friendly staff with great location to downtown.

I do not understand some people's gripe in these reviews. My room was cozy, cute, with a great view of downtown Des Moines, and the pampering was divine (European-style walk-in shower, Aveeda bath products, super soft and comfy beds, attentive staff). Prices for inroom service were actually very reasonable compared to other hotels I've stayed, and the food was great. If you don't like historic, older buildings, then don't book your stay here. I for one found the fact that this is a 100 plus year old building fascinating, and there were many tidbits about the hotel's and Des Moines' history of those days all over for your viewing pleasure. Will definitely stay here again.

I do not believe in historic hotels. In this case the "historic" translates into a musty smell as you walk in the hotel — similar to walking into a water damaged basement. This smell is present throughout the main lobby. Along with the historic you also get mechanical rotary temperature knobs with small hard to read print in your room along with uneven floors in the hallways. I bumped into a sliding door that did not open in time, the doorman said — don't worry it happens all the time. I don't think this hotel has a pool, or it has a non usable one? Being "historic" also mean there is an ongoing annoying construction to prevent the walls from crumbling down. The view from 3 out of four hotel sides is terrible and you can only see the parking ramp or another wall of the same hotel. I reserved a "studio" advertised as having 414+ sq feet with kitchenette but the check in person gave me a smaller room w/o a fridge and no kitchenette? The staff did not offer to lower my rate and simply said that my room was a studio? I measured the surface of my room to be 350 sq. Feet significantly less than the 414 sq feet they advertise and there was no denying the absence of the kitchen and the fridge fridge in the room. This was a serious omission on the hotel's part. All in all this overpriced trap is not what traveling families need. It is unfortunate that this hotel was placed on the historic list of protected buildings rather than being torn down.

Booked a room for a business visitor. The visitor had flight delays and was a day late. I called the front desk and advised of the change in plans and they said "I'm the front desk, I don't know anything about that". I was put on hold for 20 minutes with national reservations line who then transferred me back to front desk to verify that the reservation was still in place. They then confirmed the room would be available My business visitor arrived and there was no rooms available. I have never experienced such incompetent and poor customer service from a hotel like this before and my employer will not use this property again.

Flight crews are given a room that is barely the size of a broom closet.

Musty smell and felt old and dirty.

Pillows were tiny. Room was tiny. Beds were uncomfortable, and I think they were both full-sized. Temperature hard to adjust. Wifi was easy and free. People were nice. Aveda bathroom soaps. Pamphlets in the room advertising things that were much nicer than what was actually in the room. Sheraton and Hilton in Omaha were much better for about $22 cheaper/night. The hotel was very pretty. Linens were soft. Room service was prompt and food was good. Room service was as expensive as you would expect. Large selection of food to order from. Check out at 12pm. Late check out upon request "if available. " Parking is expensive. $18 for valet. Or a garage across the street by the hour.
