A familiar place. The breakfast is simple but tasty.

Wonderful and cute! They've done a good job keeping it up. Very clean. No hair dryer. They may have had one to borrow, we didn't call to ask.

Such a great find! Don’t be driven away by its modest exterior. The room was decorated like an apartment, not a hotel. The front desk was so helpful during our first stay in Chicago — from navigating the transit system to breakfast in the morning! The breakfast had a waffle maker, cinnamon buns, donuts, bagels, English muffins, yogurt, fruit and hard boiled eggs. Coffee and tea as well. Perfect for a quick breakfast before sightseeing! We will be back!

We stayed here before and after three days at the Hilton Chicago. My family could not wait to get back to The Gateway. Everyone here was very helpful. If there is a problem, they fix it. I hope there are always places like this to stay.

As a native son of Chicago's South side who earned the ability afford any lodgings I selected this inn. I was overjoyed in my good fortune to experience a homey room, great desk service and a wonderfully cheerful, tasty breakfast while enjoying the company of other travelers along with "regulars" stopping by on their morning strolls. The location is excellent. It is safe and snug. It is so much of what we Americans of ALL backgrounds seek in these coo-coo times. The "Drake" was my go-to, pampered lodging in the past, but as I've aged (73! ) & now retired I am comfortable to stay in less costly accommodations with FREE PARKING & closer to my kith 'n kin.

It's a cute little place. The check-in clerk was very polite and friendly. Conveniently located.

Very pleased we found this place. Very warm and welcoming rooms. Not your typical hotel room. Getway Inn rooms make you feel at home. Diffiently will stay again when we return to the Chicago area.

Stayed with the Inn several times in the price reflected the area and found the owners and manager's took great deserved pride in the well-done breakfast and very clean stylish rooms.

A pleasant surprise in Chicago! Our flight got cancelled so we were forced to spend the night here, and not only does Gateway have one of the best deals in town, they also have a great hotel. Rooms were super clean, staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was great! I will stay here again for sure!

Awesome place to stay in. The desk service was very nice. And I especially love the breakfast room on the top floor. Has a good view.

It's a nice, quaint inn, not too far from downtown Chicago. I stayed here during Memorial weekend this year. The room was set up with 2 beds, 2 dressers, a night stand in the middle of the beds, a small fridge, and a tv. Thankfully they also had air conditioning because it was such a hot weekend! The cost wasn't bad to boot either.

This hotel exceeded expectations. At first glance, the area may turn you away but please give it a chance! The rooms are so neat and very comfortable. We booked two rooms and each had a different decorative design inside which makes each one unique! The staff was amazing. The person who checked us in answered all of our questions and even printed us a map to use the bus and metro to get to Wrigley Field. Karen was also very helpful and friendly. She was easy to sit and chat with which made the whole experience more down to earth. If we had any requests (like extra towels) she helped immediately and with a smile. The breakfast there is great too! In small hotels you just expect to have muffins and pastries but they offered waffles! We plan future trips to Chicago and the group of 5 of us agreed that we will return to this hotel for our stay. Wonderful place with wonderful people that we would love to see again. Thank you.

I been to the Gateway Inn in Oaklawn Illinois alot with my boyfriend & we love there rooms very comfortable beds & very nice & friendly staff & the rooms are beautiful & clean & I love the showers to a nice Motel to call home for a night or weekend or a week believe me u want be disappointed & its in a good neighbor hood to if u need a break from a stressful or bad day or u just want to be with some one special or by your self go there.

The room decoration was adorable! Very clean and nice.

This hotel is AMAZING. The nicest room I've ever stayed in, and I stay in a LOT of hotels. Kind staff, and a rustic, country feel right in the city. Loved it!

The room was nice but these thieves charged me an extra $50 because they accused me and my friend of smoking in the room. We checked in about 2:30am, I was tired and irritated when I arrived because events earlier in the night and my friend was going to pay for the room but he didn't have his ID so they wouldn't take his credit card so I used my debit. My boyfriend was being loud and we got warned twice so eventually I made him leave because I was not getting kicked out of the room. I though at first maybe this is why they charged me the extra $50 but when I finally got around to answering that is what they told me… that the room was smokey and there were cigarette butts laying around. First of all, by the end of our night nobody had any cigarettes left and my friend had been putting butts in his pockets all night because we were at an outside show and he didnt want to throw his on the ground so when we got to the room he emptied them into the trash. The extremely rude woman on the phone said the room was smokey. Straight up lie! They saw the cig butts in the trash and used that as an opportunity to charge the extra $50… I wouldn't be surprised if they had dumped some on the floor and took a pic of it just to make it seem legit. This place deserves ZERO stars. I guess not wanting to be a litter bug reason enough to steal money from me.

The room was good. Overall, good place to stay overnight. Enjoyed my stay albeit the room was a bit noisy.

Commuting for work. Spend several days here. Home away from home! Staff are very caring and helpful, rooms are nice and homey, breakfast and coffee are free in the morning. Great, safe and comfortable. And sometimes there are dogs to pet!

Nice clean place. It's so beautiful. Complimentary breakfast. Downside is that the Wi-Fi connection is really weak. Sometimes it doesn't work.

It's a quiet, clean, and friendly environment. Perfect place to kickback and getaway.

Stayed one night was fined kind of room I am looking to live in Wi-Fi wasn't good and couldn't get TV to work was fine because I came back to room at 2am went to sleep I will come back in the future.

Loved our stay! The room felt like we were in a friend's guest room! The staff is incredibly friendly and the breakfast is very nice!

These guys live up to all of the positive reviews I've read, and now they get another one! We were in town for a concert at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre and The room was clean and the decor is very homey. Bedding was clean and soft. We felt like we were staying in a friend's guest room. According to one of the staff members, our room was amongst the newly renovated.
It's on a fairly busy street, but the windows easily canceled out any noise.
Next time we stay on the North side of Chicago, we'll keep Gateway Inn in mind.

Down the street from my family is the plus! Caroline is very pleasant! Owner Female owner talks toooooo much and too fast! Room has a rustic smell but nice! Very spacious! I am impressed and would enjoy staying at the Gateway again.

I checked in at 4.15pm, the room was not ready. During the check in, I could not hear anything because the owner had 4 barking dogs (I did not mind until I was (ironically) verbally attacked by the owner because my dog had barked). Also, she seemed more concerned about my dog, than with providing me information regarding the Wifi and breakfast.
I had to go to the consulate and was travelling abroad the next day, I had no other choice than leaving my dog in the room. When I came back after being stuck in traffic, the owner did not even wait for me to get out of the car and snapped at my 12-year-old because our dog had barked. She then proceeded to verbally assault me in front of my 2 children telling me I should not have brought my dog at all (I had booked a pet friendly hotel knowingly and paid for it). My youngest was terrified and started crying. The icing on the cake: we were kept awake (9pm-1pm) by 2 barking dogs staying in the room next door (while mine was sound asleep) and she never said anything to the other clients. I came to the conclusion that she was racist (my children are mixed-race) and a coward. It is so much easier to lash out at a woman alone with children.
Adding to that, we were never given neither the Wi-Fi password nor any information about breakfast.
The room was barely clean. I opened the drawer and found hair and crumbs all over. The bathtub was barely clean.
I will never ever return to that place.

Bed bugs bites all over me after staying here. Place was filthy! I saw a used condom sitting on the dresser and the owner said I must've put it there after I said I didn't multiple times she said the maid wouldn't be able to remove it until the morning.

A pleasant family run motel. If you need a cheap place to sleep for a night, this spot gets the job done.

We went there for a three nights Weekend trip to Chicago, because we were looking for a cheap place to stay. As we finally arrived there, I was actually surprised how good this motel is. Rooms are relatively quiet, clean and well equipped with everything you need. The Motel itself provides a ton of free parking space and great breakfast in a nice naighbourhood and stuff is very friendly and helpful. It is located approximately half an hour from Chicago downtown by car. There is also a direct train connection to Union Station by Metra for only $6 one way.

My fiance and I absolutely love this place. This is our getaway place on date night. It's in the cut it's inexpensive it's clean and it's better than some up upscale hotels. Everything is upgraded you get more for your money flat screen TVs, DVD player, frigerator and microwave for the low. That's why we always come back time and time again and they are really nice.

I so wanted to give Gateway 5 stars. I really did. It's an adorable motel that's family run and run very well for the most part. The room was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was nice and the shower had decent water pressure. You definitely don't have to worry about bugs here. You can tell that they take pride in their rooms. But, the room air conditioners are in the back of the room instead of the front by the door. The room wasn't hot or anything, I… just like need the room to be chilly to be able to sleep. And it wasn't. The older units don't really push the air where they need to be. So if you like your room cold to sleep in, this might be an issue. The only other problem I had was with the Wi-Fi. They offer free Wi-Fi, but I couldn't get it in my room for the life of me. They even gave me a signal booster that didn't help. I had to use my hotspot on my phone if I wanted to go on my laptop. I called the desk a few times and even went to the front desk twice. I was told that the boss was called and the Internet guy was called and that they would change my room. None of which happened. Unless they knocked when I was in the shower. I think they kind of gave up. So while I really want to give them 5 stars, I just can't. But it is a nice motel for the price you pay. Edited to add that the air conditioner froze over and we had to turn it off. Now we have a fan and it's hot in here. I don't know if I'll be able to sleep.

Great room at a very reasonable price. The property is located in Oak Lawn off 95th street, which means it can get a bit noisy (especially during the day) because of traffic and the EMS vehicles headed to/from Advocate of Christmas medical center. This is simply because of the location and nothing else. The staff is friendly, rooms are clean and nicely appointed, continental breakfast is provided. This was a great overall experience, especially when considering the price. If you need to stay in Oak Lawn, definitely check out the Gateway Inn!
