With a name like Magnuson Hotel Red Baron, you'd expect a luxury hotel in Garden City, KS, but this is actually a low-cost motel catering primarily to truckers. It's okay if you're on a budget but squeamish travelers or people extremely sensitive to cigarette smells should look elsewhere. Opening the door to my room, I was overcome with a sense of nostalgia, due in large measure to the smell of stale cigarette smoke covered up with cleaning solutions. It was like being back in the 1970s, though the furniture is more like 2002. Turning on the air conditioner worked to moderate the smell, and the front desk helpfully offered to switch rooms or to Fabreze the room again. I was fine with just the AC but more sensitive people would be unhappy. The AC worked to drown out local traffic noise and the bed was fine. There are power strips which helps for plugging in devices, though you have to dig behind the furniture to get to them. The sink lacked a stopper which was fine since I wasn't going to fill the basin and just let the water run to shave. The shower has a modern adjustment head, which is too bad because older heads actually put out more water. The fiberglass in the tub was peeling. Of particular note are the foil shampoo packets which contain a scientifically determined miniscule amount of shampoo. Tip: rip the packet slightly before getting into the shower because it's almost impossible to open them with wet hands when showering.

We checked into are first hotel room and the fridge didn't work and there was mold in the fridge. Went to the office we got another room 10 minutes later the electric went out had no power for 2 hours. The sheets on the bed weren't clean at all very dirty the sheets didn't even fit the bed. I've been to many hotels and this is the first time I've had to write a bad review.

We Rodeo and we are always looking for cheap hotel rooms. If you do what we do this motel is perfect. Very clean, beds are very comfortable! Great choice for the money.

For a 2 star hotel, this place was excellent! The facilites were updated, the bed rather comfy, and very clean rooms. They did have an outdoor pool but it won't be open in colder months. They also gave me a early check in and provided breakfast, though I passed for a local breakfast spot. I would definitely come back!

Fantastic! Clean, comfortable, great water pressure in shower with plenty of hot water. If I had to complain the only thing I could think to want is a slightly larger TV, they do have a flat screen TV, microwave and mini refrigerator in room. Continental breakfast was great as well. Highly recommend!

Clean rooms, SUPER comfortable beds. Slept like a baby here. Toilets take forever to flush, but it's really no big deal.

Room entry doors have light creeping in through the left side of them due to improper weather stripping being used. The first room we stayed in had no hot water and the bathroom door wasn't installed properly, so you had to lift it up to close it. When this was reported to the manager, he said that nothing was wrong with the room and he was refusing to compensate us for the night. One of the lamps had a flood light and a regular bulb installed in it. The second room the shade for the lamp was stripped and would not fasten correctly to the lamp. The lamp also had exposed wiring, not good when you have a toddler. In addition to the light creeping through the door, the weather stripping along the bottom of the door came off and had to be rethreaded through the track. Finally the kids playground equipment has nails sticking up on the boards which are a huge safety and heath hazard to children playing on them. This will be my first and last time staying in this hotel. Clearly the management doesnt understand customer service nor are the rooms in proper shape.

Parking is bad. You cant park by your room. Better rates in town.

Well it would have been rated with 4 or 5 stars except this time around of us staying in this motel, we were harassed by the new owner and a swat team w/ FBI AGENTS CAME KNOCKING AT OUR DOOR! Questions about a vehicle from outta state and murder suspect! NEITHER ONE WAS US! Ugh#! ###! lol.

For a stopover to rest and move on, this is acceptable. Room was clean but very "tired". Plenty of very hot water!

Horrible place. The online pictures did not match. The room had an awful odor. The toilet stunk like sewer. The water stunk as well. Bugs. I stayed for 6 nights and bought bedding the first day I was there. Would never ever stay here again! Staff was rude and the hotel surroundings we not any better. Go elsewhere you will thank me!

After checking out, there were 2 extra taxes on our bill for each night. Overcharged for what we were told. Man behind desk was rude. Refused to give us available room on lower level. We were able to change to lower level next morning with different desk person. She said there were plenty rooms on lower level available day before.

Front desk kind and welcoming. Ice machine dated but it is obvious the owners are in the process if updating things. Room was comfortable and clean. Housekeeping could work on dusting the trimming throughout the room. ;) Great price for accommodation.

I had to sleep in my clothes last night. My heater didn't warm the place up till about 3 this morning. Mold in bathrooms stains everywhere I don't know where the other people stayed that put these reviews in but it sure wasn't here.

Customer service was great. Can't complain about that. Lady was very helpful. But the bathrooms are a little crowded. But my biggest complain was that one of the bed fitted sheet was ripped. And the back yard where the swimming pool is, could be a lot cleaner. Cut the grass maybe.

Nice comfortable bed clean room. Good for a night or a couple of nights. Sitting chair was stained dirty but I wasn't planning on using it. Didn't stay for breakfast but it looked adequate. I left to get back on the road.
