Not my favorite but this cheap price is for a reason, room not that clean and small. Location is ok but the neighborhood is very danger for single woman, or with family. If just need a place to lay down for sleep, it will get the job done.

Decent and good. Location is prime but comfort is low. Shared toilet and bathroom.

I want to give the place more stars, because it's quiet, has a comfortable atmosphere, great water pressure hot water, and the the gentleman at the front desk checking you in is probably one of the best front desk people I've ever met. I expect to be able to give more stars in the near future since they have a major remodel that is ongoing. It is clean, just in bad shape, due to age and years of neglect. But with the construction and current staff will nexpexg this place to be a gem. Prices are reasonable, location is ideal for city visitors, but the area itself is on the sketchy side, with an extremely active nightlife (I don't mean clubs) one block up.

So guys. Can say LOVE this place and give 5 stars, in spite of its downsides (a hostel! Not too clean, and shared bathroom and shower at the end of the hallway), because the owner is EXTREMELY nice and helping and welcoming and always available to. Help, and prices are so low (for SF). And it's pretty much in the center, walking distance to so many things. Remember to bring your flip flops for the shower. Hair drier was provided.

Very basic and old Hostel. It needs a good reform and updating.

Not bad… FYI — a hooker died in the room Your sleeping in. Someone smoked meth in your room last week. Several times your room has been the setting of an orgy of homeless gay men… just saying… but not bad, wouldn’t decline to stay again if I needed a cheap weekly rate. ’

This place is really nicely run, it feels like I'm in New York City. I felt like I was in a different place, but maybe it's because that's how it's built. I got to experience something new here. Oh the t. V. Was on when I entered and the fire alarm had tape on it. Maybe the police officer retired owner could run it a lot better if he could hire someone like muah!

Europa Hostel is well situated on 6th street, within walking distance of public transport. Rooms are well appointed with a sink and fridge. While it maybe a little dated, the hostel is good value, with the manager being an absolute champion who gave us good service.

Stayed here for a few nights over 2 weekends in two different rooms. As others have said, the place is quite run down. Don't come here expecting a hotel experience. This place is good for the price and ideal for students or young adults to stay while visiting from interstate or overseas. I was only spending my nights here while over from overseas and I found it suitable. Owner is nice and was a pleasure to deal with. To address some concerns others had, the area is questionable, but it's entirely possible to avoid the bad parts of the street by going up Howard and then up 5th. I'd consider staying here again, as it's in a pretty central location.

Good location, staff was polite and helpful, I got good price on long weekend.

It was worth the price. Bed, fridge, in room sink and closet. Access to bathroom and shower. Cheap enough and okay service. Loved it.

This place is a total dump ceiling is falling apart overall it wasn't that dirty but it's just a dump.

Love the employees! Customer service is great! The building is a bit old but if you get lost find the red and yellow door.

The only thing I can recommend is the relatively low price for a location near downtown.

This is a terrible place to stay. I cant believe that there's hotel like this is the usa. The city needs to check the condition of this hotel. Rooms are filty, shared bathrooms and restroom. The rooms, furniture and beddings are filty and smelly. Worst hotel ever that i've been too. Not recommended.

Better than sleeping on the street but filthy, run down, and unsafe. Stick to HI.

One of the worst hostel I have ever been. The place is gross. The shared-bathroom is all rusty and dirty. They stock the "clean" towels and sheets in a disgusting cupboard. If you have the choice, go for an Airbnb. Even if it is a bit more expensive: it is worth to spend more money for a pleasant place to stay in SF.

Location is a bit tougher, but an okay place if you aren't intimidated easily. Owner probably one of the nicest and most friendly people you'll meet. Rooms are a little dated but for the price it's unbeatable.

Well, if you're just going to sleep this well, the hallways are very narrow and it needs maintenance to the place.

Would definitely stay there again! So I'm going to start… We were picked up by a shuttle bus from the airport with other people when we were already driven through this area, we were already shocked, everywhere bums and everywhere reeked of grass. You really didn't feel safe that's why we also went to the hostel every night if we wanted to go back to the hotel, even if it was only a 5 minute walk.
Now let's go to the hostel: You came in and it smelled peculiar and it was very dirty. Then the heavy suitcases had to be carried up a long staircase. Arriving at the top we were surprisingly greeted by a very nice gentleman. When we had the 3-room tickets and walked across the hallway, we had a huge kotzfleck on the ground for the first time. When we reached the room we would need 5 minutes to get into the room because the cards were not the best. Arrived in the room the horror went on it was only the bare essentials and everywhere was this strange smell. In the end we survived the three nights…

Value for money but payment of my life!
The hotel smells bad, it is full of dust, old and sometimes dirty baths and the batteries get stuck… small shared showers and they tend to have hairs. I booked a large bed and it was uncomfortable and the mattress deformed.
The only good thing is that it was quiet and well located, however crossing 6th Street was the "Circus of Horror". You feel unsafe both at night and in the daytime…
I booked it, despite the bad ratings, because there was nothing else on Black Friday. As soon as I got out of that obsolete hole I found another cheaper, cleaner and more comfortable and a thousand times more enjoyable and over with free breakfast!
I wouldn't go back to this place, I wouldn't recommend it.

The only word that can describe this pigpen is 'disgusting".
There is no lobby. The entrance is dirty old door, followed by a few steps. The man that works there smells very bad and makes a lot of bad jokes. He doesnt wear a uniform and he is very unprofessional.
The floor is crooked, and you have the sense the place is going to collapse any second.
The rooms have no bathroom or shower. The public shower is repugnant: there is moss on the curtains, fungii on the sink, and testicle hair in the shower floor. The toilet was clogged up with abundant feces.
The rooms are small and uncomfortable. The bed is small and itchy. There are spiders, roaches and bugs. A nightmare.
It is located in the worst neighborhood of San Francisco. The streets roam with junkies who often shout and fight at night. Scary stuff.
The people that sleep at this hotel dont looked very good either. Most look like they ve spent some time in prison.
I wouldnt wish my worst enemies a night at this place.

El hostal esta situado en mala zona: abudantes yonkis y drogadictos vagan por la zona.

The area where it does not transmit security when walking at night, although there are some nightclubs right next door. The bathroom is shared and not everything looks very clean. Friendly receptionist. Without parking difficult to park because you have to consider the nights of cleanliness.

Bad hotel, smell, and bug and spider, so scare to get there and around hotel ppl walking as bad smell smoke and drug abuse, later I cencel hotel they charged me 170$ for cenceletion u kidding me.

This place was just disgusting. There is only one bathroom in the building. TV was awful. Neighborhood didn't feel safe and the guy tried to steal my aunt's Identity. People next door were LOUD and the blankets were nasty… AVOID HERE AT ALL COSTS.

The room was small and the TV only had maybe five channels. Other than that it is very quiet and the restrooms were always clean. Attentive desk clerks. A hidden gem.

Worst place to stay, the area is terrible and the pictures that they posted is different from what you will see in person, the place is really old and dark inside it looks like a haunted house and you notice they don't post any pictures of the front view of this place it's because all you will see is a dirty front door with a door bell and oh the area really looks scary trust me if you really wanna stay in a nice comfortable place I recommend to pay a lil more extra but if you really wanna pay cheap and doesnt mind dirty rooms then this place is for you goodluck.

Our room was gigantic. It looked out on the most notorious intersection in North Beach… Columbus and Broadway. The only complaint I have was the shared bathrooms… Of course with a few additional dollars you can have a private bath. And the Europe allowed us to have visitors all night long so long as they paid $10 (which I think is actually illegal in San Francisco County? ).

Not for me… Everything looked and felt gross, especially the bathrooms. I couldn't sleep because I didn't feel safe and neighbouring guests were too loud all night.

Bed Bug infested! Alert, My wife and I stayed at room 207 for 4 nights. It was a horrible, traumatic experience for both of us waking up to itching, burning, bright red big welts all over our bed and limbs in the middle of the night. We walked out of there with 175 bed bug bites between us and it unfortunately took us till the 4th night to detect that bedbugs were indeed the culprit. The owner is a decent chap but did not give us a full refund for our stay in the room, claiming it was OUR fault for not detecting the bedbugs sooner. This was despite our managing to kill over 20 bedbugs with kleenex sheets on our last night and showing him the bloodied sheets upon checkout. It has been weeks since our stay there, and we continue to fight off the welts and bites, which no topical medicines seem to heal. Truly a traumatic experience.

Dirty, Bad neigborhood, weird.

Looks sketchy from the outside, looks just a little better on the inside. It is good only for sleeping through the night, there is nothing except a bed, toilet and a small shower. Wifi works, but is pretty slow. The biggest issue I've had is with the neighborhood. It was the last day of a pride parade so maybe that made the number of drugged people higher, but it is still not pleasant. Definitely do not walk around here alone, have some guys with you, especially at night. It gets really weird in the dark.

DANGER! This hotel is Really Really Bad. It smelled extremely bad, since the owner was cooking all day long is this hostel. There is no lobby, everything is dirty and it's just not nice to stay there. The neighborhood is bad. Our car got broken into and they stole everything. I definitely do NOT recommend this hostel to anyone. You should not save money on your stay in SF and stay in that hostel.
