Reviews of Hilton Garden Inn San Diego Downtown/Bayside, CA 3*
Review done on 5/11/2022 so whoever reads this can track down the nasty blonde who was working the front desk this morning and teach her about customer service skills which she is obviously lacking in. Booked a week in advance. Got here last night (5/10/22) around 4:30pm — $50 to park (bit excessive if you ask me), but there is no place close by that you allows you to haul all your stuff down to the hotel. Room is gorgeous — although our harbor view room (#633) had a snow cone shaped obstruction blocking some of our view. Got a note slid under our door advising that the water is going to be shut off at 10am the next day? I booked a week in advance, you would think they would have warned us, but no. Asked when we checked in if we wanted housekeeping — told them yes. Double checked the next day (after finding out about the water), and a smart a** blonde gal gets nasty with us telling us they need 24 hours notice, which we gave. She then wants us to describe the gal at the desk who we talked to? Seriously? Who cares who we talked to — we’re diamond members……GET IT DONE. After her nasty attitude, we decided to find the housekeeping lady ourselves, gave her $20 to make sure it got done. Room was sparkling clean. So, here we sit at 9:00pm, still with no water. Advised that it will be back on at 10:30pm, so we’re waiting to brush our teeth. Breakfast was a joke — typical Hilton buffet, so we decided to upgrade and order off the menu instead. Took 20 minutes to get our drinks.
We had a lovely stay at Homewood Suites Bayside. Great location convenient to the airport, 5 minute walk to Little Italy, 10 minute walk to Coronado Ferry, and easy access to Lyft/Uber for further destinations. The hotel breakfast (for Homewood guests) offered lots of options — bagels, muffins, egg dish, sausage, potatoes, delicious coffee, and granola bars/fruit to grab for an on the go snack. Our favorite spot was the open air courtyard, with fire tables, comfortable seating, ping pong, cornhole, and giant Jenga. Online reviews were mixed, but we had a great experience and would definitely return.

I recommend it but I had a bad experience while I was there. I hope this doesn’t happen to everyone else. I went down to the jacuzzi and there was an older white guy in the jacuzzi but the bubbles weren’t going. So I cranked the timer and nothing happened. There was a red button below the timer and I thought that would get it going but instead, I set of the emergency alarm through out all over the second floor. They took their precious time coming to check out the alarm and in the meanwhile, the older guy asked me if I was here for a conference and I said no, just for a nice weekend because it’s my birthday. He said “so you came to San Diego by yourself? ” I said “no, I came with my husband” he was visibly shocked, uncomfortable and he couldn’t get out of the jacuzzi fast enough. As he was leaving he said “happy birthday”. When the maintenance guy finally arrived, he scolded me for pushing the red button! He said that the alarm deactivates all the systems for the jacuzzi and pool and if the chlorine levels came down, he would have to shut the access to the whole thing. I got mad at him and I said “so how do do get the jacuzzi going? ” He said that you have to crank it up and if that didn’t work to crank it down and crank it back up again. Like, how am I supposed to know that? UGH! 😡
