My husband and I stayed for a weekend and had an incredible time. Awesome view of the ocean where the sea otters are constantly making themselves known, the breakfast was an amazing experience, the staff is so friendly, and the location was top notch. Will definitely go back.

First time at a BnB and I feel the Martine has set the bar pretty high. Everything about the place was lovely and I felt spoiled the entire weekend. It is a historic building, so I went in knowing that there would be things we aren't used to; like the low water pressure and antique decor. None of that distracted from the delightful experience we had; in fact I feel it added to the experience. Gina, our hostess for two of the evenings, went out of her way to give us a memorable stay, and the kitchen and dining room staff are top notch!

We have stayed at several bed & breakfasts in Monterey/Pacific Grove and this is one of the best. I think what makes it stand out is they actually have a chef preparing meals and the dining room overlooks the ocean. Very quaint and unique. The staff are awesome!

This place was amazing, the staff were more than helpful and curtious. The breakfast was great too! The views and location are exactly as stated. We enjoyed ourselves!

The Martine Inn is a special place. The rooms are beautiful and each room is unique. Our visit started with a warm welcome and guided tour by the inn keeper. Our room was beautiful… upstairs and with a view of the garden. A bottle of champagne on ice was waiting for us in our room to help us celebrate our wedding anniversary. Unoccupied rooms are left open so visitors can see them and we’ve already picked out a room for our next visit. We loved the sit down breakfast each morning, and wine and hors d’oeuvres each evening in the ocean view dining area. When you stay here you’re writhing walking distance of restaurants and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We rented e-bikes from Big Sur Adventures and rode the 17 Mile Drive — make time to do this when you visit!

We had a wonderful stay. We felt really welcome and pampered. We had a lovely room, good food and overall a great experience.

We loved our stay here! I would come back here any time I came back to Pacific Grove. The room was amazing, the food delicious, and the people couldn't be more friendly. I highly recommend staying at this super cute B&B!

Great location with excellent, friendly service. It has a lot of history and perks and the free breakfast was great as well. Convenient, walking distance to the Aquarium.

Beautiful victorian style manor with several places to sit and watch the ocean. They even provide binoculars! Gorgeous antiques and plenty of free goodies. Only complaint is that the beds squeak as antique beds do and the walls are pretty thin.

Stayed in the Jenny Lind room. Service staff were absolute delights. Lots of extra things were included, like free baked goods and fruit, full breakfast, wine and snacks, etc. One star lost because the privacy is less than I hoped for, but knowing that now definitely wouldn't stop me from coming back. Was within walking distance to shops, beaches, the Aquarium, cannery row, etc. Gorgeous ocean views in serveral locations throughout the inn. One of the most relaxing stay locations I've ever had.

Wonderful experience. Incredible location, great innkeepers, great food, comfortable rooms. We had a business meeting here and they made it very nice for use — Apple TV to project our stuff, whiteboard, very comfortable meeting room. Super attentive staff. Cannot day enough nice about this one.

Very nice boutique hotel, with great ocean views from some rooms. It is converted from an old mansion, and so each room is unique, and a little bit quirky. Shopping areas of PG are within walking distance, if you want a little exercise. Staff were friendly, and the breakfast served in the quaint breakfast room (with a great view) is definitely worth getting up for.

This place is so deceiving it looks beautiful from the outside and is so close to the beach but it is outdated and looks like furniture from my great, great grandmother. It is actually scary looking inside. I would never stay here again.

We picked up a Travelzoo voucher and spent an extra $275 upgrade charge for two nights. I chose the upgrade after they said a suite with an ocean view was available. We arrived after a long drive and mid-evening, so we stayed there that night, but took the loss and left the next day. This place was so misrepresented! The description, the photos, what they told me over the phone – it’s not vintage, it’s run down! Here’s some of it: — I told them, “This is not a suite, it’s one living area and a bathroom! ” and she said, “No, that’s just the name of the room – The Suite. ” — Our “ocean view” was about a 20-degree angle as there was a house right in front of our window. — The breakfast in the photos? Not even! Poached eggs on mushrooms with an English muffin. One strip of bacon. One? — There is no television, which was fine, but the Wi-Fi was so poor we couldn’t even stream music. — The shampoo in the bathroom had already been used. — The refrigerator is a mini fridge just sitting on the floor. — No in-room coffee and no ice machine anywhere. — Everything is just old and tired. The finish had come off fixtures in many places, the carpet was stained, the footboard on the bed was loose, etc. — No air conditioning, so be careful if you’re going when it’s warm. I will say the staff was very gracious and gave us a partial refund when we left. We’ll NEVER go back though! It should rent for $125 a night at best!

We loved the place it's different. Very friendly and nice people there take good care of us. It's our first BNB and we celebrated our 27th years Aniversary there. Very intimate and great ocean view from our room you can hear the ocean and the waves very relaxing… Thank you!

Earlier trip to community hospital was half mile south of where I needed to be. You had me turn in where 10 20 30 40 and 50 was on LOWER road when 2 UPPER is half mile away!

Beautiful bed and breakfast with a wonderful staff! What could be better than watching for whales over a cup of tea in the dining room? Great deal on tickets to the Monterey Bay aquarium for guests too!

It is a nice place to stay. They want you to have a great time. You can make a fire in the fireplace. They feed you breakfast which is great. This place is old and has antiques all over. There are cars you can look at. The lights are not that bright so if you like to read at night, you may have to ask for an extra lamp. No tvs in the rooms. They have a place to watch a television but that is for everyone to watch!

Overpriced, but quaint. The rooms need an update and some of the antiques need TLC. I liked the location and the parking. I won't repeat.

The Martine Inn was an excellent place to stay. All the rooms are unique and have their own story. There are tons of things to do throughout the inn, such as a library full of interesting books, a game room, and a sitting room with an amazing ocean view. The price of a room comes with hors d'oeuvres and wine at night and a full breakfast in the morning. All the staff are friendly and accommodating. Overall, it's a great place to stay.

We made a last minute decision to head down the coast from San Francisco. I called The Martine Inn and the woman on the phone was so helpful! She explained the rooms she had available and we arrived to the house that afternoon right before the wine and appetizers were served! It was ridiculously hot (95 degree heat wave) outside, so she brought us a fan for our room. My boyfriend loved the old MG cars in the garage and my kids enjoyed watching the Sea Otters play in the ocean with the binoculars provided in the main dining room! We loved the carm and friendliness at this place and are already talking about which room we want to stay in when we return!

Unfortunately we were there for too short a time to explore all of the amenities, but this place is sweet, charming, and comfortable. You feel very cherished as a guest.

Horrible Customer Servie. I've never had such a big issue when it came to booking a stay until I booked here. The ladies at the front come off as sharks who don't care to accommodate anyone. I felt disrespected and talked down to. On the phone I couldn't even speak a full sentence without being interrupted. I tried explaining a situation that arose keeping me and my husband from being able to make out scheduled date. Keep in mind Im calling and calling and the front desk tells me I can't reschedule until 72hours before my booked date. Which is ridiculous! They have a 72hour cancellation policy. Anyways This place just wants your money and they don't care about customer service. Im so happy I won't be staying here.

I had made a mistake in the booking. The staff were very accommodating, and helped us get into an even better room that worked for our family. Great views, nice rooms, and the breakfast was great as well.

We love this place. You never need to leave. They have a yummy breakfast in the morning. Wine and horderves at 5:30. They have a lovely courtyard, pool table, ping pong table and a TV room for your entertainment. The owner (Don Martine) comes to meet you at breakfast and wine time to visit. The chef came out to make sure everything was perfect. We can't wait until next time.

By a wonderful massage therapist. We stayed in the family suite. Beautiful place, great staff, and great food. I loved that it was so close to Cannery Row but far enough away from the busyness of it. I prefer staying in PG by far. I would definitely return and stay in a different room — it's amazing the Inn has 19 and are all beautiful. If you love antiques, you will love the history of this B & B. I enjoyed how the owner visited the parlor room during breakfast and appetizer and wine hours to express his gratefulness to his guests. He has a number of old cars on the premises too … so if you enjoy old cars, that is a plus! The B&B has a number of areas for one to sit and relax … parlor rooms and wonderful courtyard areas.

Great location. Easy access to aquarium and Pacific Grove. Breakfast was OK, but more of a value add vs the raw lodging experience. One note pay attention to the check-in instructions and times as there isn't a 24 hour desk.

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the Martine Inn and thoroughly loved it. The staff and ambiance was so delightful. The food and other little things they bring out, was very delicious. The view of the ocean of course is the main attraction, plus being so close to Monterrey Bay and Carmel, made our stay so enjoyable. We highly recommend your trying it out.

This was our 14th time at the Martine Inn, so we are clearly fans of the place. We found it by accident while looking for a B&B near Monterey in 2002, and it was such a great experience, we have come back at least once a year. The location is right across Ocean View Blvd from the Pacific Ocean, about a half mile south of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and between Cannery Row and Lovers Point. In November, we come Thanksgiving weekend, arriving at the Inn in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Or a little earlier, in time for the Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay which goes right by the Inn. We have stayed in five different rooms at the Inn. Each room has different antique furniture, and I think every room we stayed in had a claw foot bathtub. The fireplace rooms come ready to light, with the logs and starter in place. It's very cosy, especially with hearing the waves crashing outside. Every evening there wine and hors d'oeuvres are served in the dining room, the same place where breakfast is served, and Thanksgiving dinner. There are large picture windows facing the gorgeous view. Breakfast varies as each day there is a fresh bakery item followed by the chef's special. There is fruit and juice served with the meal. If you don't like the special, you can get granola or oatmeal or scrambled eggs, but so far I've stuck with the specials of the day which are varied and interesting. The service is amazing. Food is served on antique china with antique flatware.

This is a charming inn chock full of amenities within easy walking distance to both Cannery Row and Lover's Point. It's right on the coast along the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail, and the views of the ocean at breakfast are gorgeous. Service was attentive but not overbearing or hovering, and breakfast was tasty. (Portions are fairly small but were enough for me. ) The major downside to our stay — — I would NOT recommend staying in any of the rooms on the entry level floor (Monterey, Jenny Lind, or Garden) unless you don't mind being awakened at 6:30am sharp by staff preparing breakfast. There was lots of chatting among workers in the hallway (at least they all sounded as if they were in good moods) and inadvertent clanking of dishes as they were removed from a nearby closet. I don't know about you, but if I get to escape to a B&B for a romantic weekend with my honey, I want to be able to sleep in! Because of this, I'm not sure if we'd stay here again in one of the upstairs rooms or check out one of the other B&B's along the coast.

For those who travel on a regular basis, and perhaps even for those who have seldom left their home town, you may have come across a place that feels like a second home, a place that you hold more dear than others you have visited. In my own travels, the Martine Inn has come to fill that niche. It is a place that I return to for the reasons many other reviewers have already espoused. The views, the food, the convenient location (within walking distance of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row), the hospitality of Don and Anne and the rest of the staff, and of course, the charm of the inn itself. My wife and I have been fortunate enough to have had many positive experiences such as this elsewhere in the world but, for one reason or another, it is the Martine Inn that has captured our hearts, so much so that we got engaged in Pacific Grove during one of our stays. It goes without saying that I highly recommend the Martine Inn, but only on the condition that anyone who stays there recognize that the experience will not be one you will encounter at a chain hotel. There are no televisions, you can (and should) walk across the street to the beach for a slow, lazy stroll along the beautifully rugged coast, each room is entirely unique and you may actually have a conversation with a stranger at breakfast (and maybe even your significant other). So please, leave your tablets and laptops at home and enjoy the beauty of doing nothing.

Go back in time. My wife and I stayed two nights here recently and can’t wait to come back! If you are looking for amazing views while enjoying table service breakfast and a chance to experience turn of the century living of the wealthy, you will enjoy the Martine Inn. This is not todays accommodations that several of the viewers seem to covet, this is yesterdays. If you are going to go back in time to 1899, you are getting all that comes with that. Embrace it folks. Our room had an amazing ocean view, a fireplace that we enjoyed in the evening and morning as well as the craziest shower (early 1900’s) that I have ever seen. The inn keeper was a delight, taking time to share stories with us about the restoration and history of the inn and area. There was coffee and fresh fruit always available and were only second to the fresh baked brownies and chocolate cookies my wife had me going back for several times. We felt that we stayed in a wonderful B&B, but we also felt we stayed in 1899 for two days. Thank you Don and Ann for a warm welcome and a nice visit to 1899.

Not at all what I expected. The reviews I read were great, but I was less than impressed, and very dissapointed. The room we had (empire), had such a strong smell of smoke that my husband couldn't sleep through the night. I understand the rooms have a fireplace and in such small quarters there wil be the smell of smoke. Keeping that in mind the draperies and canopy should be cleaned regulary, you can tell they're not! The bathroom ceiling is in need of repair. They've patched it with a board that doesn't quite meet, therefore each morning we were greeted by spiders in the bathroom, not my idea of fun. From the parking area to the front door there are three different sets of stairs. The bottom one is lit beautifuly, the second two are not lit at all. There are solar lights along the way, NOT ONE OF THEM WORKED. With the late evening and early morning dampness on the steps it was very dangerous walking up them. I was the one who insisted on spending my 50th birthday there and I could tell my husband felt bad because he knew I wasn't enjoying myself. What this did do was get us off the property and out and about to visit the sights, it is a truly beautiful area. Being a Travel Agent, I should have researched it better, I didn't do my homework on my own reservation. I can promise you I won't do that again.
