Great little boutique hotel, real gem in the heart of eclectic Venice… walk to the beach or nearby Abbot Kinney for shopping. The real show stopper is the view and vibe on the rooftop deck! But make a reservation so you can easily get seated and enjoy a cocktail and grab a nosh… the garlicy fries and fish tacos are the best! Friendly staff and cool, spacious rooms… had a room with partial beach view and it was perfect on the 17th street side… super quiet and comfy bed. Breakfast at the lil hotel restaurant was yummy too!

Nice hotel, great view from our balcony room on the 6th floor. Quiet and lovely Christmas morning. Comfortable bedding. Clean. Had to ask for Glassware as only plastic cups were provided in the room. Would book again.

Excellent hotel and lovely location near the beach, Santa Monica, the canals and the shops! Roof top bar sounds great but found it too cold and windy and a bit noisy for a summer's eve. Good food there and down below in the other bar. Great staff!

It’s 5’Oclock somewhere… however this was the breakfast of Champions on National Donut Day! Amazing staff, great local happy hour, amazing breakfast joint and a rooftop that simply sizzles!

We love, love, love coming here! The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. We are always treated like family here. This is our favorite place in LA and will definitely come back sooner than later.

We stayed in a spacious and beautiful corner suite with an INCREDIBLE view of the sunset over the beach. We ordered room service for dinner, dessert, and breakfast and were very pleased with all three. I appreciated the gluten-free menu markers. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special, especially the front office manager, Mohit. We will definitely be returning! Thank you, Hotel Erwin!

We had a great check in and received a wonderful room with a great view. Unfortunately, the experience ends here. This establishment seems to focus more on guests attending their rooftop bar versus the hotel guests. I think this is my first 1 star review, and it’s greatly deserved. First of all, they made us wait in a line to enter a hotel we have a room in! Second, they asked us to pay a cover fee upon entry. Once we stated we were overnight guests here, they told us to take the stairs to the 6th floor. It’s not difficult to walk 6 floors, but why is the only elevator available reserved for bar guests and limits overnight hotel guests? Once we made it to our room after a beautiful day, we called for room service. The menu clearly states 5 PM to 12 AM. They told us no food is available. I responded by asking them to make a recommendation with which could be charged to the room and brought up and they said that isn’t available. They told us to go to the roof to eat. If food is prepared for only the bar guests what is this establishment claiming itself as an upscale hotel? We told the hotel what food we wanted from the roof, and are currently waiting for it. I mean I like the Howard Johnson on road trips, but this is not what I expected. Thumbs down and get an Air BnB or stay somewhere else.

Nice hotel over all. Great location near the beach. The room is pretty modern and well maintained. My biggest complaint is that the shower had low pressure and it took extra time to fully wash off soap.

I have been going to this hotel for 30 years. It has upgraded at least 4 times and each time it has been amazing. I can't see how they can make it any better. Miguel has been there for over 15 years and you'll never find a better front desk person. The whole staff is and has always been the best. Obviously the owner must take care of his employees because everyone has the best attitude you'll ever find. Thank, see you soon.

After a week stay here experiencing art, music, the boardwalk, long swims out into the pacific, and amazing culture, loved every moment here. The staff was super nice and courteous and in the West I can think of no finer place to see a sunset than on the rooftop high perch right here on Venice Beach. What a place. Truly inspiring.

I attended a great networking event here, I did not stay the night. Located closely to the beach. The rooftop was great, but the middle section which was carved out for the rooms below was made the rooftop from being exceptional. The private event was run really well with great food and service. For a corporate event with 100 or less people, I would highly recommend this location.

This hotel is very convenient since it's very close to the airport. They even have a 24h shuttle service so you don't need to pay for transportation. We had a great stay. Rooms were clean. Breakfast was also good. We only had a bit of delay to check out, they only had one person handling it.

Check in staff is amazing and very helpful. Love the hotel location for its close proximity to everything we needed to do in Venice. The security is top notch here, shout out to Michael from security for being so kind to us. The rooftop bar has a great atmosphere. The only con I have is the ongoing construction near the entrance. The hallway gets crowded quickly with all the public crowd in line for the elevator to get into the rooftop bar. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay.

Hotel ideally located in the heart of Venice Beach trendy and friendly. Free bikes ready. Terrace-bar with view but open until 10pm the week and midnight on weekends, so potentially a bit of noise in the rooms of the high floors.

Super roof top to have a drink in the sunset, reservations recommended in order to have a seat, otherwise you will find a place without worries.

I was under the weather when staying there with my roommate. I requested another room and was upgraded for free to a suite to accommodate a separate room so I wouldn't get my roommate sick. A special thank you to Ian at the front desk for his support in making this happen in such short time. He even delivered the new room key to my existing room. Well above and beyond for service and a fantastic place to stay. Very highly recommend!

High Rooftop bar is amazing. Went at 10pm and it was surprisingly warm. Even if it gets cold it's nice that they provide you with blankets and heaters to stay warm. The staff was also very friendly and attentive which I appreciated. I had the hot chocolate with burbon and peppermint and it was awesome. Perfect drink for the perfect weather and atmosphere.

The rooms were pretty spacious and the decor was somewhat minimalistic but great. The service at the lobby was good. While they don't have a gym, they'll offer you free passes in a nearby gym (which we didn't use). The bedding was really good, we slept very well. We payed extra to book a room with a view; the room was in the sixth (top) floor and, while it didn't face directly towards the ocean, we did have somewhat of a view of the sea and the beach. I'm not entirely persuaded it was worth it. The hotel has a rooftop terrace/bar, which seems to be very popular. It has great views! Unfortunately, the sound leaks somewhat to the rooms in the sixth floor (though, as I said, we slept very well regardless). The location is top notch.

I chose a bad hotel. For the kind of money I'm paying I should have stayed somewhere else. Internet connection is bad, they don't even leave the mini lotions in the room. When I call front desk about lotions, they pretend it was an oversight. Then next day same thing. Pillow case has food stain and not the kind washing couldn't remove. Free water first night only: which makes no logical sense since you're paying the same money each night. Would it kill then to do these little things? It's crazy. It's as if they don't know people write reviews and tell each other.

Absolutely, the best hotel in Venice beach, the Erwin has it all. You are right on the beach, with the only rooftop bar around, and right across from the skate park and muscle beach area. The hotel decor is beyond cool. Lots of retro stuff and interesting photography and rock and roll art. The staff was great in every respect. Our room was clean and very spacious.

Venice is just sketchy. There was a shooting at the bar across the street on my last night there. It was like a war zone. 9 shots. 10 police cars. Helicopters with search lights. Do yourself a favor. Visit Venice during the day to see the freak show, and stay somewhere safe at night.

A great hotel. Fun and very careful. The location is wonderful, in the middle of Venice beach with all the life you have. The view from the terrace is brutal with a few sunsets to remember.

We stayed for 4 days at this hotel which is located on Venice Beach very clean very nice only thing that is a pity is that the parking is as expensive.

We were kept awake and unhappy in our top floor suite because of the loud, late night bar noise. When we called the desk, they sent security up. Security noted the loud music and said he would tell them to turn it down, and that they stop at midnight. They did neither thing. Upon leaving, when asked about our otherwise delightful stay, I suggested that they tell future customers of the noise. I said it would not bother some folks, but for those who do go to sleep before one am, they should have the choice of a quieter room. Like the two nights before, we were told that we should have packed our bags at 1 am and fled to a new room. This time, when we were dismissed, I had had enough. When they sent a follow-up how-did-we-do, I told them. The manager apologized, and offered me another two day stay if I would give them a chance to show me they do value my business. I said of course, and he sent me a certificate. The only qualifier on this certificate is "based on availability". It is for two nights, like our last stay was. My husband works at Facebook in the bay, and we need three day weekends to make the drive worthwhile. They had then, and still have, (Saturday morning at 8am) plenty of available rooms, and said I could stay Sunday and Monday, but not Saturday. I would have accepted that if they were booked, or if the certificate said "Holidays excluded", but they were not booked, and it does not say that.

Went for drinks at the lounge to grab some drinks with my friends… cute place. You do have to make reservation if you want a table if not you'll be standing around. Price were pretty average for a drink. $10-$20 a glass.

Hotel very friendly staff very cool.

Funky and under remodel, but right in the heart of Venice. The rooftop bar has probably the most beautiful view of Santa Monica Bay I've ever seen. Service was super friendly, I was stuck in the back alley and they talked me into the valet over the phone, even being really busy. Didn't see any rooms, the vibe is young and eclectic, but this is Venice, and I'm neither LOL. Go and enjoy.

The most excellent service by staff. Absolutely love this motel. Decor is awesome. Gifted a bottle of red wine and a welcome card, above and beyond expectation of service. Clean, and comfortable. Room with a view was great entertainment of the locals. Friendly staff and very helpful. Would recommend to everyone.

Great atmosphere and wonderful staff. The 360 views are amazing on a clear day. It's a great place to have a small gathering and enjoy the sunsets. Perfect west facing sunsets.

My girlfriend and I stayed here in September of this year and I enjoyed my stay a lot. The staff was great and so was room service and the room we stayed in. I'll definitely be going back! The ocean view is a big plus.

Good location for folks visiting Venice. There was a super loud rooftop party though, and I was staying in a room right below it. They did end at 10pm thankfully on a Monday. The rooms were nice and clean with lots of space. Not sure if it was worth the price of the room though all hotels in the area are ridiculously expensive I guess. Staff was friendly. I didn't have a hairdryer in my room though and front desk didn't pick up when I rang. I just did without though.

Maybe the best location to stay in Venice. Can see the ocean from balcony if you face the sea. Rooms are spacious and well presented. Bed is comfortable. Service desk seemed a little vague but helpful and pleasant… and it is LA after all. Highly recommend the rooftop views.

Very cute and hip small hotel. Location was perfect for quick weekend getaway. Front desk service was friendly, prompt and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and we even had an ocean view. Next time we will stay a bit longer.

The rooftop has great views of Venice and the surrounding area. Nice vibe and location, friendly staff. Rooms were clean with a balcony/view as well. Consider an jacket if you'll staying on the roof into the night :)

Went around 12:30pm on a Saturday and had no trouble getting a table at the high lounge. Drinks were great, and the view was pretty amazing. Our server was also very helpful and was good at periodically checking in with us to see if we needed anything. It is a little pricey but that is on par for the area. Would definitely recommend reserving a spot on the west facing side of the building.

I loved the rooftop bar, my party got reservations for sunset. It was so so pleasant and gorgeous views, my only complaint was that the drinks were way overpriced. Even still, I would definitely go back. Our server was friendly and had great recommendations. I would recommend making reservations near a heater and also to get there earlier than you think.

We really enjoyed this Hotel… The staff were very helpful, friendly and customer service driven. The Hotels itself is located very close to Venice beach. It is modern, clean and the rooms are quiet, spacious and well designed (apart from the bathroom vanity outside the bathroom, I didn't understand that) … Anyway, the rooftop bar area is lovely. The surrounding area is not as good as Santa Monica area but it is a lovely stroll up the beach… If we return to LA would would be happy to stay at this Hotel again.

A comfortable hotel with a quirky, laid back vibe steps away from the beach. Within easy walking distance of restaurants and other Venice attractions. Across multiple stays I've found the staff friendly and accommodating.

We were lucky enough to vacation at the Hotel Erwin. We stayed in room 611 for a few days and had a fantastic time. The Hotel is smack in the middle of the most interesting beach community in the world. We are ‘people watchers’, and there is no better place to watch people than Venice Beach steps away from the hotel. The service at the Erwin was exceptional. The staff was always smiling and in good spirits. I could tell they liked working there. The bed was comfortable and had nice pillows. The view from our room was amazing – see pix of happy wife on balcony. (Happy wife, Happy life! ) We ate at the hotel on our last day and were not disappointed. Everything was delicious. When we were leaving, we commented on the beautiful mural at the entrance and the guy we mentioned it to happened to be Erwin the owner. We learned a little more about the hotel like the fact that he was a contractor and built it himself! You could tell that there was so much love put into the building and the business. He started apologizing for the elevator being a little slow because he wanted everything to be perfect — but we could care less because everything was perfect! Thank you for a great time. Highly recommend this lovely hotel.

It was my first time visiting the hotel, now I just went for the Rooftop bar, since I live an hour drive from Venice. The bar has a great Atmosphere, loved it, the drink menu is pretty creative, but heavy on vodka drinks. Great place to watch the sunset with friends, drinks and a great atmosphere.

We went to the rooftop patio for dinner and drinks. Everything from the seating to the succulent accents we're very clearly well thoughout to give you the best experience possible. We ordered Margaritas which were $16 each. When they came we we're shocked at how small they were — just a regular water glass size. However they were probably the best Margaritas I've had. We wanted dinner but they only had 5 items, all being small appetizer size. I got the sliders which were $14. Three small bacon cheeseburger sliders came out. They were pretty good but not worth the money. The buns looked like cheap store bought dinner rolls but they did the job. Overall I'd say it was a little expensive for what you get but the view and location are unbeatable.

We went to the rooftop bar on a Saturday night and had a great time. The drinks are nice, the view is great and the ambience is really nice. They provide blankets so you feel cozy and comfortable all night. I loved it and would go there again!

Took the wife to Dog Town for the 4th of July. The Rooms are very nice. The staff here is exceptional as it should be for $300. A night. We got the one bedroom suite with a great view of the alley, at the waikaloa Hilton on the Big Island we paid $245. For a one bedroom suite with awesome ocean views. Another down fall was the line outside the hotel to get to the rooftop bar. There's so many people its hard to figure out if you should get in line or just walk up to the front desk. 2nd a very busy elevator full of people going to & from the roof top bar.
3rd Parking Valet $45. Per day Highway robbery. (Good luck finding free parking)
Ive never paid more then $30. At a four Seasons or any of the Hilton 5 Star Resorts. The staff truly is exceptional we never went to the roof top bar but enjoyed the downstairs Barlo bar much better we were able to chat with the staff and had a great time there.
This hotel is not worth the money. But if you want to be close to the Venice boardwalk this is the place.

The perfect place to grab a drink and watch the sun set over Venice Beach. The staff s hot, the patrons are hot, when the sun is it he place is hot. Wear sunscreen and drink up!

Went to High Rooftop bar for drinks with a friend. The staff is extremely friendly and the food and drinks we had were AMAZING. Highly recommend the crab dip. You get an amazing view of the ocean wherever you sit. They do fill up pretty fast so I also highly recommend making reservations well before your visit. I absolutely love this place!

The "bouncer" of the bar (even in the hotel) takes its role too heart, he hesitated to let me order hotel room with my bike then the home was cold and he and the wife of the reception refused that I ride my bike (3 saddlebags + 2 bags a back…) in my bedroom E! First time in 22 days of road trip from Seattle… at 350th at night, that they go to be put, for what I pay if I have not even the right to this minimum service? Anything, they have DLA chance that it is 20h and that jsuis enough slammed of my 89miles of bike PR do not have the motive to go look elsewhere.

Loved this hotel! They treated my wife and I to breakfast. The rooms were recently remodeled and are as nice as they come. Also, the rooftop bar has the most amazing view!

From the moment I walked through the door and was greeted by the friendly staff, I knew my stay at Hotel Erwin was going to be amazing. Venice Beach is so incredibly cool and as an Aussie, has so many cultural reference to my TV consumption growing up. I was so excited to be there and Hotel Erwin's location, views and atmosphere made the experience. I will go back to Hotel Erwin time and time again. P. S smashed avo and a latte in bed is a must, as is a sundowner at Barlo… it's perfection.

The parking is not free it's$38 a day. There are nice touches that personalize the hotel. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The restaurant is small but has an outside option. It is clean and has a well stocked mini bar and snack section.

Close to Venice Beach. Loud at night. Large but bare room with very cramped bathroom. Two of our attempts to eat at the in-house restaurant were unsuccessful for annoying reasons.

Rooftop bar: Take the less than 10min walk from Abbot Kinney and peep Hotel Erwin’s rooftop bar (assuming you haven't already while you were completing the LA bucket list). The sea breeze goes great with one of the craft cocktails or some mahi-mahi tacos. Easy street parking and nutso sunsets are also a major plus. (THe Thrillist)

Very nice rooms and really nice bar downstairs as well. I had some issues with the wired internet that they weren't able to solve, but thankfully the wireless is actually fast! The rooftop bar closed early a number of nights I was there.

Amazing place, my girlfriend and I stayed there for a night, but this was a place we won't forget but from a good reason the service we got there was beyond any expectation, I highly recommends to book to this resort! It's very near to Universal Studios and there a variety of restaurants near by. In the bottom line you must book to this hotel, I surly come again.

Great location and they have a nice rooftop lounge as well. You get an amazing view from the Oceanside rooms and also the rooftop. Right on Venice Beach so there's a lot to do around. I would definitely take the Oceanside rooms as the city view rooms do not have the nice view. Rooms are ok. The bathroom is spacious and the amenities are good as well.

I stayed here for five nights on a business trip. Loved room 606 which had a great view of the beach and was mid-hotel, making it a bit quieter than full beach view rooms which are directly under the bar. If you're sensitive to sound, stay on a lower floor. The front desk staff is friendly, Wi-Fi is adequate for most business needs and it's just near so many attractions. I'd return.

Great views from the rooftop. Layout needs a bit of work since its hard to get around, especially when crowded. Crazy sunset though, very nice for a date if you can find a cozy spot on the couch.

Loved my stay here. Perfect location within walking distance to anything related to the beach. The Red Bull suite looks out onto the beach and has a large patio… lots of fun! Roof top bar with a great view. Great way to wind down the night… and not at all noisy as the suite was directly under… no problems getting to sleep even on the weekend.

Top deck was interesting. Good views and vibes. However the layout was weird. Only good if you are with a big group. Pricey drinks for venice.

The place is nice and clean. Amazing rooftop and restaurant if you don´t want to go out. The rooms are small but if you're looking for a cool place to crash, this is definitely a good one.

Rooms are small the furnishing sub par. The shampoos are not high end. But worst of all was that it only has one elevator for the entire place plus the rooftop bar. Expect to wait five minutes or more for it regularly. The location is dope though. But the hotel itself was weak. Not worth the price point.

Roof top is the best place on the beach for sunsets. However not the best place to go there with your beachware on a saturday evening when all the chic fräuleins drive in fancy limos.

Awesome hotel! This hotel is right on the beach which is great and has tons of shops within walking distance. I stayed in a north facing ocean view room with a balcony and loved watching the sunset. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Had a big walk in shower and a lot of really cool amenities. The staff was very nice, always greeting you and making sure you are enjoying your stay. I had breakfast in their Barlo restaurant and highly recommend the breakfast burrito (it says breakfast tacos but you can get it as a burrito). I ordered it with veggie sausage and it was delicious! I also had dinner/drinks at their rooftop restaurant, High, and recommend the Mahi tacos. Absolutely amazing! Love this hotel!

Lived here for almost three weeks haha. Loved it. The rooftop is perfecto.

My experience is with the Erwin's Rooftop Restaurant and Bar. My Auntie has lived in this area for over 35 years. She frequents the coffee shop and we went to the rooftop bar once and had a wonderful time. Today we had family in from Washington, DC and took them to this place for after-brunch drinks. We were told the wait was an hour. We had no problem, ordered great margaritas and enjoyed the view. After a while we watched people walk in and just sit down. We were told they had reservations. One group was asked to move and they refused, but was still served. After about an hour and 15 minutes, we was told it was okay to sit in one area, and then asked to get up. Once again we were seated in another area, but yet another employee said we could not sit there. I asked if there was an issue with our skin, as we were the one people of color there. An 1/2 hour after our initial 1 hour wait, we left. The 2 stars are only for the margaritas. If you are black, step back, you will not be served here.

I recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights the 3rd night cleaning didn't supply us with towels we had to reuse our ould towels the beds were stained and my TV channels didn't all come in their staff is extremely irresponsible.

Stayed here for two nights and had a good experience. My king room was spacious and stocked with nice amenities like an oversized closet and small balcony. Room was mostly quiet but you can hear some noise from the floor above. One elevator services the entire hotel and rooftop bar which can be frustrating if you're in a hurry. Valet was slow at times and I wish they had a self park option. There are several lots in the area and you might be better off parking somewhere else.

Great little boutique hotel but on the expensive side for what it is: the Erwin has an amazing Venice beach-side location but it's a rather ordinary hotel inside. From the hype surrounding it, you'd think this is an uber hip W hotel but it is not: Rooms were clean and OK but nothing special. Upper floor rooms have three foot balconies with stretch-your-neck sea views. Would definitely return, though, as it seems better than most accommodation in Venice and the "high" roof top bar had unparalleled views over the sunset. See separate reviews of high (roof top bar) and Barlo (downstairs restaurant).

This is the best hotel I've ever stayed at. The first surprise came on my first day when at around 5 pm there was a knock on my door. I didn't order anything. I opened the door and there was a vibrant, young lady, who said, "Hello! Free wine or beer? " Yes! The service here is top notch and they make sure you enjoy your stay. The rooms are immaculate, and housecleaning is also top notch. They work with your schedule. I got a room with a view and could see the sun set over the Pacific everyday and hear the ocean as I went to sleep. You can also hear the local "character" late at night, too, but that was fine by me.

Hands down one of the best hotel and service experiences I've ever had. The staff is friendly, helpful, reasonable and more. Not only terribly gorgeous rooms and in the one of my favorite urban beaches on Earth, but the Erwin and it's staff leaves one feeling like they're among friends. I can't wait to return. The rooftop bar is the thing of memories and classics waiting to be born. I love you Erwin. Thank you.
