Venice Beach Hostel Hostel

Loved my stay here! People were really cool and staff was accommodating. Also had a decent breakfast and it's a block from the beach. This was my first hostel experience and I gotta say my expectations were knocked out of the park!

I was perfectly happy with my stay! It felt like the hostels I stayed at while backpacking in Europe. The people are chill, the common room is cozy, everyone does their best with the shared kitchen, I felt safe and slept comfortably with plenty of crazy Venice-induced dreams.

Over priced, rude staff and ridiculous check in. Noisy at night and doesn't feel a safe location. There is parking near by, free 6pm-8pm otherwise a max of 2 hours. Stayed in the private room… Basic, odd layout no TV but has a kitchen sink? no air conditioning just a noisy ceiling fan to keep you awake. Didn't have the complementary breakfast after reading the other reviews…

Gets the job done if you're looking for a cheap place to stay. Bring ear plugs and an eye mask.

Overall, this is the best hostel in the Venice/SaMo area. It is an older building but the relaxed atmosphere and outside patio make up for the furnishings. Carl runs a tight ship, keeps everyone safe, wears some armor and has a heart of gold. Yoshi the manager works very hard and sees that all his guests are comfortable. Although, you can drink here be sure and smoke any cannabis off the property. Follow the rules here and you’ll be treated with the utmost respect. By far this hostel is more accommodating to those travelers who come to Venice to make some memories and have the time of their lives. Hanging around in your room during the day, nursing your hangover like a lounge lizard, chilling and listening to some tunes until dinner is all good here. Most rooms have a few chairs and a desk none of the other hostels in the area have this. And, the restrooms including shower are in the room A BIG PLUS. One of the best things about this hostel is the majority of management and staff really go out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful experience. Ursula the hostess was kind enough to do my laundry for me on my last day. Alex their IT guy gave me a free ride to LAX. Kort in housekeeping who is also a very talented musician was a fun dude to chill with. I suggest anyone coming to Venice looking to save some money by staying at a hostel and are on vacay for pleasure this really is the place for you. P. S.

A guy broke into our room, he stole the key two days before at the checkout. He took one of our beds, slept there at night, and nobody noticed it at the front desk. I spoke to the manager and all he said was that it was our fault cuz he saw the bed free and just took it. After arguing a bit with him, he just said 'I'm sorry' and have us 50 dollars. The place is a mess, dirty, noisy and pricey. I would only highlight the location. There are other nearby hostels more worthy than this one though.

If I could give zero stars I would! Absolute nightmare of a place. Don’t use ATM in this place either. They steal your information and hack into your account.

Stayed with my wife in May 2018 in this hostel. We had a room for two days.
At the entrance to this place immediately felt a strange musty smell.
Gave us the number 204. Just opening this room we immediately felt, not to say otherwise, stink. The windows were opened in the hope that the smell could be weathered. And then they left the Gulas. The smell of the room was very clean. We went to the front desk and asked to replace us with a room as we could not sleep due to the room's stink. The guy with the resepshenv did not understand the essence of the question, because he did not smell. Went with us to the room, completely sniffed him and said that nothing to him stinks. But since we stink, he agreed to replace the room. Of course, we didn't go to the "breakfast included". We replaced the room for 307. But this is not the end of our adventures. After a night's sleep at me closer to the evening of the next day on a body the red stains have begun to appear. As soon as clarified-this bite from bed bugs…
The conclusion? Friends, do not waste your time, money and do not be fooled by the location of the hostel. Believe me: It is not worth it. If you walk in the direction of Santa Monica and further, you can find a much better place with an excellent view!

One of the members of the staff was not a friendly guy at all… Maybe he was just having a bad day but it was enough to make me not really want to stay there again if I'm ever in the area.

Hostel very well located on Venice Beach. Private room with correct double bed. Room equipped with a non-functional kitchen: The cupboards are filled with electric cables… weird.
Be careful to expect enough cash for the check-in: $100 deposit required. Tax of $15 if payment per card. Still very expensive for a hostel: about $100 at night.

I cannot recommend to any female of thinking of staying there. The owner is verbally abusive and aggressive, without any reason. Better stay away.

It's really not all that bad. Chill staff that were very flexible with a day-of check in. Only thing keeping it from a better review was that the staff was unresponsive to the doorbell to let you in. Free breakfast and dinner is nice.

Nothing like the images on their website! FILTHY! NOISY! FOUND BED BUGS! Had to leave and find a different place to stay. Terrible!

Is this a joke?! The rooms ARE TRASHED, smells HORRIBLE, the blinds are hanging by threads, I had to sleep on a prison bed… for 135$? DO NOT come here. It’s ‘cheap’, but you’re better off sleeping outside. Trashy as hell.

The Bathrooms are clean and the terrace is nice. The Staff is super funny freaky and the matresses are okay and the sheets are clean. The rooms and the whole place was not rebuild after the 70's anymore so the prices are a to high.

I'm not going back even if I'm invited! Expensive and scammers. For the price they say this included breakfast and dinner. Dinner you have to do your and you can boil some macaroni because they offer nothing more and not talk about the breakfast, put mass of creps and you do… Fatal I do not return!

As many previous reviews confirm. GROSSEST hostel I've ever seen The ambiance is on a par to a crack den. This is coming from a backpacker who has stayed in 50+ hostels in 38 countries. Save yourself the nightmare and go else where.

This is a classic hostel. Don't expect too much. Location is excellent.

The room was comfortable, had a computer with internet and the view were good the only bad thing is that the last day I asked to a person of the reception if he could call a cab for me and that son of a bi*** told me that I could hitchhike and didn't call a cab.

I will back again but now for a few days, good staff, Jaida you're the best.

Very good hostel! Just few meters from the ocean in the heart of Venice beach, good dorms, big kitchen and big common area. There is also a patio!

We went to this hostel with a group of 16 kids as the first stop of our road trip. We had booked the rooms months before to be sure to have a place to stay. Not only were we disappointed by the cleanliness of the place but also by the organization. Despite our booking we've been informed when we arrived that a group of kids (all minors) will have to share their room with other people. Luckily, the members of our staff took this bedroom to solve the problem… or at least that's what we thought. Along our 3 days stay they've been moved to another bedroom 3 times! Not to mention that the hostel staff took the liberty to go into the room and take the luggages with the personnal belongings to move them in another room as we were outside — THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

The staff is fantastic. Value for money is excellent too cause they give you breakfast and dinner. Excellent location. Some room for improvement but you'll have a great time down there.

What you see is not what you get, Was extremely unhappy and unsafe. No screen on window, bugs mites easily entering and just dust under bed. Dirty carpeting not hygienic at all. I arrived and had to leave an hour later as I felt extremely disappointed not to mention they took money from me and fail to acknowledge my concerns. I didn't even spend the night and yet I had to pay a nights rent. Dirty not recommended.

Booked 3 days, slept 2 in the car. Worst place ever. I wonder how they can have a permit for this place. Unbelievable messy dirty the whole place falling apart.

Not even a Homeless would sit in their wrecked nasty dirty SOFAS they got on main room and TV room … its pretty nasty reflecting the misery of the owner who just another dude who puts the name of the jews related to greed and misery … the spot is great and could be great but the comodities are nasty I just SAW a RAT yesterday in the TV ROOM … and I so the Owner almost ran madly over a homeless in an old BMW in Whole Foods Santa Monica … he just got mad cause homeless got in his way, in a boomp … and his attitude sadly reflects on the STAFF, Luisa saves the whole thing and she is leaving …

Nice staff and reasonably clean. There may be some noise during the night as the windows need to stay open to let air into the rooms.

Good location, near the core of Venice movida. Nice hostel, common room/smoking area, but most important friendly and available staff.

This is one of such places in which things more than meet your eye and your heart. Be open to understand and grow, this is a stronghold of the old days Cali, millenial remanent of the new age and you're going to feel it. Love.

The atmosphere of the hostel owes primarily to the people in service. It is also just two streets away from the Pacific Ocean.

I was welcomed with open arms and met young ppl and one gentleman my age and several from Europe. The rooms were clean and nice. Food was plenty and all shared what they cooked/. Hugs from all; less than five minutes to the beach; a clean, well managed hostel. For me the icing on the cake was at 58 I was welcomed; most are only for youth. Simon, Carl, Sue, Louise (einstein to me) Christopher, "Fe", Chiffon, James? (i hope I got that name right) if I missed anyone I will …repost. Bohemian is the atmosphere/theme in all of that section of Venice Beach the vibration I experienced. I will definately be back in April or May! I didn't want to leave. Love to you all; incredible spirits, different backgrounds and ages best experience in any hotel I have ever stayed in. This hostel will be my place to stay. I look forward to visiting soon. Thank you all for being the individual spirits you are that know how to be ONE.

Canceled our booking we made 1 week in advance 1 day out from arrival.
Poor service avoid staying here.
