Reviews of Rodeway Inn Flagstaff-Downtown 2*
I chose this hotel because of the strategic location closer to Amtrak train station about 5 minutes walk. I rode a train so it was easy to walk near the station in early morning. The plus is because of the location but for the room itself wasn’t that great. Small room but decent.
Very clean location front desk very helpful.
BEDBUGS!
TLDR: bedbug infestation, manager refusing to refund AND charged me for extra room, covered in painful itchy bites
FYI the room was 116
2 double beds, both of which had bedbugs. Everyone that stayed in either bed was bitten multiple times.
I reserved 2 rooms on Jan 12. I woke up at 3:30am covered in swollen and itchy bedbug bites. I called the front desk, and the woman said she wouldn't come upstairs because it was too late. She finally came up and started yelling at me. She said there were no bedbugs at her hotel and the mattresses were new, despite me showing her my bites and an actual bedbug that we had caught in my sheets (disgusting). She squished it with a piece of paper and blood splattered out of it.
I was absolutely horrified. She offered me the room next-door, which I went in briefly, maybe 5 mins, just to move my belongings into while I figured out what to do.
Here's what's truly unreal:
— She refused to refund the bedbug room!
— I saw later that she ALSO charged me in full for the room I stood in for 5 mins at 3:30am after I discovered I had been staying in a bedbug infested room!
— She ACCUSED ME of bringing the bedbugs in the room!
I have never been more angry and sickened in my life. I called to try and get refunded and ask about being charged for an extra room. I spoke with the same woman, presumably the hotel manager. A truly vile and despicable human. She has no business working in any sort of customer relations.
It’s not quiet or spacious but one of the older more traveled hotels in flagstaff. Wanted to take part in part of the site’s history. Comfortable beds and great atmosphere.
Ice machine broke, no parking.
We had a great stay here. Friendly helpful staff, clean rooms and perfect location. Looking forward to staying here again. Absolutely love the Rodeway Inn Downtown Flagstaff!
Great location! Tight/limited parking and small-ish rooms, but this is pretty common for this area. Still, great rates and prime location! The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful, the rooms are clean/today and all guests during our stay we're well-behaved! Will definitely stay here again, no problem. I see the other negative reviews from recent times and have to wonder… my wife is a very picky hotel guest, and has had me call other hotel offices for room changes due to issues we've had, but her only comment at this location was that the room was a bit small, and that was only mentioned in passing. Maybe I just got lucky with my room? Also, there are rooms available with two Queen Beds, and also rooms available with two Double XL beds (which are only 6 inches skinnier than a Queen Bed).
I won't stay here again. Ever! It isn't the poorly kept (I mean filthy) facility with lights that don't work and very few power plugs. (Even with an extension cord they barely worked. ) It wasn't the tacky amenities like the lack of facial tissue, or backup toilet paper, or soap, or the towels with holes in them, the flat sheets instead of fitted sheets that were too small to tuck in on the sides. It wasn't the terribly bad construction in the rooms leaving exposed areas behind tile and grout or the fact that our rooms windows faced the railroad tracks and those trains run 24/7. (It is apparently a major thoroughfare. ) I thought we got a good price on these rooms, so I can understand some of this. It was the service! The proprietors got visibly upset when asked for a second room key. When we requested more pillows they wouldn't answer us until we told them what rooms we were in. Then they said "no". They didn't say "I'm so sorry but we're all out. " Or anything nice like that. They were confrontational and mean. That's why I won't stay here again.
Upon entering our room I noticed that we requested two queen beds and got two full beds. Once I entered into the bathroom. The door wouldn't shut and the window has no lock on it and was opened. The room is tiny as can be but its actual function is good enough, we just needed sleep. The beds have a mildew like smell to them but have been cleaned pretty well. I would never reccommend someone to book a stay here. It is not a good place at all. If you're short on cash though and it's all you can afford than go ahead and book it.
Room space are super small, but do the job if all you're looking for is a spot to sleep overnight. It doesn't particularly feel clean, but it doesn't feel dirty either. We didn't have any issues with getting the a/c unit to work, but it can be a bit noisy. The bathroom is super cramped/small, but again, mostly clean and working. The curtains are actually really good at keeping the light out in the morning. Just remember to close the bathroom door too, so the light doesn't shine through it's window. Location is very close to downtown and makes everything within walking distance. Parking is kind of weird. There isn't enough spaces in their parking lot, so they'll tell you to park in different lots, but you don't get a tag for your car or anything.
I stayed on a road trip forced inside from the cold. I had my service animal with me, including his documents which are against the law to ask for. I allowed the clerk to copy them as I was charged a "pet deposit", also against Federal Law. Then after my trip the owner said I would get a full refund of said deposit. I only got back half which is NOT a full refund.
The young an working that night was helpless in the situation as the owner wasn't there and didn't understand American Laws. He was awesome and a great help to me and my service dog! Very kind young man. To good to work for people like that who break the laws as they don't understand them and seem to think American law doesn't apply to them.
Experience was crappy I asked for two queen beds and payed for them I get to the room and there doubles. I go back down to tell the manager the bed in my room were not correct they insisted the bed were queens and wouldnt give me my money back due to that my vacation got cut short I suggested you go to a different hotel or motel if you want to get what you pay for.
What can you say about an inexpensive place to stay downtown that is very close to very good restaurants and easy access to the Planetarium and the Flagstaff Blues Festival. Be sure to make your reservations well ahead of time for the Blues Festival. I got mine for $79 per night and the people that were coming in lately we're paying $179 per night. Second floor is by stairs and there is no elevator. You make reservations make sure you ask for a ground floor if you need it.
What a joke! I didn't expect a 5 star resort, but this place was beyond ridiculous. We had a room with two queen sized beds, and we had to walk sideways between one of the beds to get to our "closet. " I weigh 97 pounds and I could barely fit! It was so dirty looking that we bought a shower mat before we would use the shower. Hope you like taking tepid showers because this is all I got. Seriously, you would be more comfortable pitching a tent somewhere. The best thing about this place was only having it for one night.
The wonderful, friendly staff was able to answer all my questions regarding the room arrangements as well as suggestions for places to visit around the Flagstaff area. The room itself was kept very clean and stocked with fresh toiletries and towels. I fully intend on coming back to this location.
Well it started out the first room the door would be locked but the door would open The next room was super small and smelled bathroom sink was not in the bathroom. No maid service unless you call making the bed service. No fresh towels didn't refill our coffee. I don't recommend them. The only reason they got a star the bed was good.
Zimmer was ok. The lady at the reception probably can't be kinder. Until late evening and early in the morning very noisy through roads and train services.
I hated this place. The room wasn't clean when I got to it, and the overall feeling of the building is just trashy. My room was tiny, it was a single size bed as well, and I paid about $70 a night for it which was ridiculous. The room was so rundown, and pieces were missing from the furniture and walls. I guess theres a key to turn the water in the shower to fill the tub that was missing so it was always on shower mode. The heater looked as if it were going to leak gas or carbon monoxide while I slept, and almost none of the outlets worked. Poor excuse for a room. Plus the door wasnt fixed properly so it let cold air and a ton of light through in the night. I came back one night to my room, opened the door, and realized that there was a homeless lady sleeping in my bed. I locked everything in the room when I left, and she somehow managed to break into the secure room to sleep there. Apparently the window lock was faulty and I had no idea. Or someone let her in? I believe her drunken words said something about a friend letting her in? I'm sure the owners will read this and remember that event. They moved me to a different room that was bigger, but I wish I would have just avoided this in the first place. I look at everybody reviewing this place, and the owner's comment on everyone's reviews thanking them, but it looks like they have done nothing to improve the place, seeing how everybody is saying the same thing. Try to avoid this place.
Very close to downtown, you pay for what you get. Parking is difficult for big vehicles, and limited. Comfortable king bed, and one person shower. Room size is tiny but worth it being in a perfect location in town. Great for a single person or a couple. Loved it, will book again.
Uncomfortable worn out beds, unfriendly staff, and room was unkempt. It's like they gave up on cleaning thoroughly, and also we made a complaint about noisy neighbors but nothing was done. The lady just seemed annoyed we woke her up, or bothered her. I am not talking about a loud TV mext door, but they had a lot of people in the room, so clearly were having a party. They were smoking in the non-smoking room and kept opening and closing the door which became irritating. I would not recommend this place to anyone and will definitely find another hotel close to downtown next time.
Comfy beds, oddly enough very quiet considering it's literally right across the street from the railroad, and you can walk to everything in downtown Flag, AND it's inexpensive. 10/10 would recommend.
Worst place I have ever stayed! Me and my friend checked in only to be given keys to another room that was already occupied. Our room had no electricity on an entire wall so we had no tv, coffee, fridge or microwave. When we attempted to tell the all night staff at 4am, the door was locked and it 15 min to wake him. He came to our room barefoot and said he would check the breaker (which he did not and come back). When we asked to be switched we are told no other rooms. The ice machine did not work and the vending machine would not take dollars. 4hrs later, at 8am we check back in on the status of our room he says will check the breaker and follow up. He then calls us, does not come to the room to tell us it's not the breaker and nothing he can do. His manager would offer 20 dollars off another room for that night on a queen, (stayed in double, there with my friend) and that's all they can do. He says the manager is on vacation and can't talk to us. She finally calls us 2hrs later, says she is not on site and can do nothing, we can take the room for 20 dollars off or get the 12dollar resort fee back. No apology is ever given. Not wanting to accept her offer she asks to simply check out at 11. Worst customer service and hotel I have ever experienced. Stay anywhere else!
Very bad! The 1st room we were given the bedspread had stains all over it (NOT a good sign) so my guy checked the bed to look for bed bugs & there were fresh blood stains on the side of mattress cover. He said He'll No! I went to the office & they gave me a different room. We checked be there. Better condition, but the room was beyond questionable. We stayed because our truck broke down on a Sunday afternoon and had to get to a room to stay warm. Well the office had locked us out of our room w/ our stuff still in there while we met the tow truck. The front office guy was rude when I told him what was going on & why we needed to get back into our room before the check out time. Ugh Good luck to those who stay there.
Check in guy helpful and very nice. Not the owners. Very rude. For the price I would have expected much better. There are better close by for less.
When we got there we had to wait 30min to check in because the manager was at the laundromat. When we got checked in to our room the area outside the shower was wet. Kind of makes a person wonder if the shower was even cleaned. There was food or something splattered on the bathroom door. When we went outside we saw the managers car had all the sheets and towels thrown in it and the were unloading it. Presumably that was what she was at laundromat for. The disturbing thing is there were none of the comforters in there, so I do not believe they wash them. Also the fridge in the room was leaking water onto the floor and the floor felt soft around it. Overall the motel is not in good shape and seems to be dirty.
Went to check in and they have you pay upfront, which is not normal… I should have known! Every hotel I have stayed in has you pay at the end of your stay. Literally walked in the room and walked right out to the Residence Inn Marriott behind the Inn. The floor was disgusting and there were stains on the comforter… oh HELL NO. Would NEVER recommend this place. The pictures online DO NOT look like the rooms in person.
Very clean walking. Distance to shopping centers… to small for the price but pillows and bed very comfy the front desk clerk was just a tad bit rude but I dont let small petty things like that to get to me especially if iam in a good mood. Over all the stay was great. It being my first time in Flagstaff I picked the right motel to stay at because it was all walking distance to downtown… just to add to my experience we came in OCT. WEATHER WAS PERFECT IN THE 60s and at night it was in the 30s nice and COLD… Oh there is a train across the street that goes by mite annoy people but I actually enjoyed it.
Although it is near the tracks and the main roads it is pretty quiet. In fact those sounds surprisingly seem quite distant. The beds were comfortable. Shower was okay (no tub). Lighting was a slight problem as there were no lights for both sides of both queen sized beds. We solved that problem by using both beds. It is very easy walking distance from everything else in the downtown and the Farmer's Market was a couple of blocks away on Sunday AM (starts at 0800). If you stay in town expect smaller older rooms. That is the way they lived when Flagstaff was built. If you have to have all the features then go nearer the collage or highway and probably hear the traffic outside as the newer buildings are not nearly as sound resistant.
My $40/night room in a nice location turned into a $120/cluster after fees for a pet, early check in and of course the "resort fee". I've been to the nastinest "resorts" you can imagine and there is nothing here that remotely qualifies as a resort. If you hope to check in one minute before 3pm and enjoy the company of your four legged friend be prepared to pay triple the advertised room price. P. S. The brand new residence inn is right next door and absolutely stunning! After all the BS fees and hassle I know where I'm staying next time!
Funky place but perfect for a quick night in Flagstaff. Walking to downtown and parks. We always stay here.
We rented 2 rooms for snowbowl in 2015, the rooms were so small and the heater was so loud. The down stairs room shower was steaming hot and nice. Too bad I stayed in the room upstairs because I took a freezing cold shower on top of it being — 9 degrees outside. There is no parking so we had to park on campus parking. It was a pretty long walk for how cold it was. The only good thing is its in the middle of down town.
I made reservations a week in advance by phone. I told them I was an amputee and needed a first floor ADA room. I ensured they had a room for me and because I asked for an ADA room, the specific room would be available. We arrived during a down pour and were given our room key. Parking was so cramped and small our truck stuck out onto the sidewalk, there was a step with a 5" ramp that had a 1" — 2" step down and then another step of the same size I had to step up to get into the room. There was no counter in the bathroom and only a shower which I wasn't able to use. With only one leg, it's impossible to step OVER the rim to access the shower by an above knee amputee. My husband is on 24 hr oxygen and we would have left for another hotel, but with the rain pouring down and the difficulty to load our belongs back into our truck, we felt forced to stay. When I checked out, the woman at the counter was "sorry and said she would have refunded our money had we called the night before. She said another person needed the ADA room and they decided to move me into the next best room. Well, next best was absolutely miserable and I feel I should have been given a refund. All I was able to do was sleep without access to the shower. I would NOT RECOMMEND this hotel at all. I was promised an ADA room and didn't get what I asked for. Very small room and parking was horrible. I'v e stayed at the Quality Inn on Lucky Lane many, many times and always had a great experience.
It was pretty basic. Very loud air conditioning and small towels, but it was clean. It was well located for downtown restaurants and for visiting the grand canyon but I probably wouldn't go back.
Can you say bedbugs! I'm covered in bites. We stayed in room 123 it was small and dark. Bathroom full of mold and dirt. Old moldy coffee in the coffee pot and bed was completely filthy with other people's hair, dirt and bedbugs. They denied my refund and now so is Expedia. I will get my refund even if I go through my bank!
Only reason to stay here is location. Biker gang territory considering its off Route 66. Bikers in the parking lot under our room until 4am with bikers running LOUD for an HOUR. Our beds were literally shaking. At one point a car came to meet them and they got in a screaming match with guns out! The room was not ANYTHING near how nice the pictures looked (to be expected) but it was a serious serious difference. The train is next to us and LOUD when it comes by, shakes the building. The windows are not secure and can be opened easily, keep your valuables in the trunk of your car. Attracts a bad bad crowd. We were scared our entire stay which was a very short one and the office had nothing to offer and would not switch our room during the night. We were truly scared and did not sleep.
Horrible horrible place to stay! I hope everyone reads this places reviews before staying here it's not worth your money at all. First of all we checked in the front office had a strange very strong smell in it, a very rude guy at the front desk, got to our room it smelled disgusting like cat urine. Bedding was dirty with stains, restroom was very small. Nothing good about this so called hotel horrible.
They didn't have the room I reserved, they gave me a much smaller room with a smaller bed. I reserved a non smoking room, they tried to give me a smoking room. I had to demand that they give me a different room. At first they said they were all full, I told them I wasn't leaving the lobby until they refunded my reservation, eventually told me they could give me a room with 2 double beds, still not the queen bed I reserved and paid for, but at least it didn't smell like smoke. I won't be staying here on my way back through. I gave it one star because it wouldn't let me give 0 stars.
Out of all the hotels I've stayed at this one was the worse. I feel bad for saying that cause the people were nice but that doesn't make the rooms any better.
Cons: stained bed sheets, extremely small access to closet, no breakfast offered compared to other Rodeway, very old building, stairway light didn't work which is difficult when caring luggage upstairs in the dark, not the friendliest lady (but not as bad experience as other reviews), refused to give AAA discount once arrived, charged double the online price, small parking lot. Pros: fridge, coffee, TV, and microwave in room; very clean everywhere, trains if you like them, fairly quiet considering on hwy, comfy full beds. Edit: after traveling across the US and back, this was the worst hotel I have stayed at. It should be demolished and rebuilt to suit the modern traveler. The price is outrageous for it's quality.
Well, for the price, it was OK. About $40. If it were my motel I would do a couple of minor upgrades. There were plenty of plugs but no surfaces for our electronic devices. A small shelf would have been great. Bathroom too small for door. I would replace with sliding door. Small queen room but was on first floor which is what we asked for. No hot water in lobby for tea. It was lukewarm. Parking lot a nightmare. Hot shower, clean, reasonably comfortable bed, so you decide.
Not a place I'll go to again. Room was dirty, no water pressure so couldn't take showers. The only thing good was location, but extremely pricey to stay.

Please do yourself a favor and do not stay here. You will regret it. It is not worth your money, Saturday was over $200. The rooms are small, the bed slopes in the middle, and you get 3 small square pillows, with creaking floors you are most likely, annoying the people below. When I was looking over the room there was no hair conditioner in the bathroom, just 2 shampoo and 1 bar of soap… ALL on the floor of the bathroom. The sink had no ledge that you could set anything on, and the shower soap holder was not constructed correctly, it tipped down, everything just rolled off of it. I called the front desk, asking for a conditioner, knowing I would need some for my shower in the AM. The front desk lady said there was none, the shampoo was both, I said it just says Shampoo on it not 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner. I asked again for some conditioner, I need it. She said they don't have any. I've NEVER checked into a hotel with out conditioner. The lady was so rude about it too. The lobby oozed of Indian food, which is great if you are going to an Indian restaurant but not for a hotel lobby. There was Nothing for Breakfast, just coffee. The coffee was so bad I tossed it and went out for breakfast. My room 118, the room was so small, the king size bed took up all of the room. There was only 1.5 foot between the wall / door and the bed. On that wall was the TV, so you had to be careful not to hit it.
F*** THIS PLACE! Reviewer Crystal Gonzalez got paid to rate it 5*s ***PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE*** I rather sleep in the car and waste gas to keep me warm than sleep there, which I eventually did. If you see any of those pesty squirrels on the roof is because they live inside the walls of the hotel and some how they get inside the rooms. Ugh, the city should condemn this place.
Very good location. Excellent price. Large bedroom with all the basics. TV, Wi-Fi, coffee, coffee supplies, microwave. Site for luggage and coat rack. It was us comfortable and even though it is a busy corner, we were so tired that we slept well without hearing noise.
Don’t stay here. This hotel is on the corner of a busy train track, and a busy intersection, and is extremely noisy. We stayed in room 104, which had a broken toilet seat that pinched you if you sat on it, plywood for a window, stained linens, no smoke detector, no fire sprinklers, a bathroom door that didn’t close, and a front door that took two people to open and close. Our friends stayed in 116, and their children’s feet were black from walking on the filthy carpet, and they found a hairball in their bed. We selected the “pay at hotel” option through a travel site, and were overcharged for our room, and charged an additional fee that wouldn’t have been charged had we paid in advance through the travel site. We were repeatedly hung up on when we called to get the issue fixed. We had to contact the national chain to get our money back. Don’t stay here.
There is nothing decent about this place these people should not be in business. Said 49.99 online ended up being 59.99 for 1 person 69.99 for 2. The entire property smells like ass and curry. The 1.9 stars are far to high for this place I would've paid much more for anything else. Trust the reviews I didn't. Dont let this sh*t hole ruin your time in flagstaff.
An hour after checking in I noticed that they had given me a room with two full beds when I had paid extra for the two Queens. I went to the lobby (which smells like they are running an Indian restaurant out of) to inform them of the mix up. The lady told me they are the same price and insisted there was no issue. I continued to explain that there was a price difference and began to pull my phone out to show her. She changed stories and said that since I had already moved all my stuff into the room, that she wouldn't be able to move my room till the next day. A hassle I didn't want to deal with while on vacation. I then told her I would just like a refund for the difference, to this she said no. They obviously do not care for their customers (especially repeat customers such as myself). The room was also left with a 1/4 roll of tp and no back up on the room. Staying with two girls, it went fast. Twice we had to call up front for additional TP. The first time when they said they would send some up, about 20 minutes later they finally showed. The second time it happened they said they didn't have anyone to bring it up, but once their help arrived they would send it up. So ridiculous. I went to get over the first night and the machine (that sits outside literally in the middle of the parking lot) did not work, and probably hasn't in a long time judging by the way it looked. We came back to the room on a Saturday night around 8 and there was no parking.
Two other people in online reviews have complained of theft in the last month. I was a victim also. An item was stolen from my luggage. The receptionist/ manager lied saying " No one has access to the room". Was the room made up by itself when I was out? The day of the theft it was left unmade so I would think no maid entered. The lobby stinks of curry and a rancid smell much of time. The TV remote does not work and the remote is the only way to operate the TV. The receptionist begrudgingly came to see the TV after insisting it does work. She then stated she had ordered new remotes, so she knew! The room looks nothing like the photos I have traveled to the 3rd world and am not hard to please but this is the worst. In my opinion, this is a criminal operation not a legit business and Rodeway should take its name off it.
Staff we're unfriendly! so very unhelpful. I misplaced my wallet. The next morning I found my wallet upside down, with my money and social security card missing. Not only was it taken but it placed under my car the next morning. I hate this place.
In October 2015. We were our dog, so we asked for room on the ground floor. They said there is no available, so we went to upstairs. The room was not bigger than 162 sqft with bathroom! In the "room" had only a bathroom size window. The bed was broken. The staff grudgingly came to repair. After they have seen, it can not be repaired, they offered another room: on the ground floor! The two men just watched, I carry 2 heavy baggages, down in the narrow, slippery steirs without help. The parking space very small, dangerous to turn it everywhere if full. No breakfast. Unfriendly staff.
Made a reservation. Called to request a downstairs room as am handicapped. Rudest woman ever basically said note is in & if there is one available… WHAT? so if there is not one available I can try to make it up the steps? Can't say for sure until checking in? Then go at 11 pm out looking for a ground floor room? Cancelled reservation & want all to know this is a cess pool.
The staff was very friendly, my room was clean and well kept. Very cozy! I'm enjoying my stay, and I will definitely be a returning customer. Thank you very much for the hospitality, as well as the kindness. Pleased customer, Crystal Gonzalez-Munguia.

Traveling for work from Dallas to Socorro Nm to Oakland Ca. Flagstaff was a going to be a good in between after driving from Dallas to Socorro. I booked 3 rooms for Jan2 — Jan 3rd. Notated the reservation that it would be a late checkin — after midnight! We hit hazardous weather going into New Mexico and leaving. We arrived at 423am. Reservations are supposed to be good until 7am the next day for members. The Door is locked, no one is at the front desk, there is a note in the door to ring the bell and or call the local number and push 0 for the operator- Both of which were done. They have a ring doorbell. Clearly I should have been seen. So I call — no answer — I call again — (5 times actually) It’s a freaking blizzard outside and we can’t check into our rooms. Luckily we went down the road a mile and were able to find rooms. Meanwhile I continue to call until someone finally answers at 954 am. I explain what happen and tell him not to charge my card- I was told I went to the wrong hotel— I was told someone was there Then I was told he would call me back — He didn’t So I went back before we left — explained again the issue. I was told I would be refunded — I would receive and email and a phone call. I haven’t received anything! They are apart of Choice Hotels- So I called and explained the situation to them as well only to be told they can’t do anything but each out to that manager! At this point — do they really even have management?
