We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Historic Anchorage Hotel! Kari at the front desk was AWESOME! She came outside to get our luggage as soon as we got out of our taxi! She gave great suggestions for places to go eat & drink while we were here! Kari even got us an upgrade on our room! We enjoyed spending time with Courtney at the front desk as well! … Great hotel and even greater staff!

I really enjoyed staying at the Historic Anchorage Hotel. The rooms were so cute, each one set up differently. It's obviously an older hotel so the floors did creak and had some old time charm. It felt like a friendly community, the staff were nice and the lounge always had a beautiful fire going. This also helped me feel safe staying there by myself, with the main doors locking overnight. The gym was very simple, but it had a working treadmill and a multi-purpose weight machine. They did not have on-site parking but easy access to a lot across the street.

My room was fine but try to avoid the lower floors. The street noise will keep you awake. Staff was great.

I heard about the hotel from a radio ad in Fairbanks promoting their City and Sea special. My husband and I had our anniversary weekend coming up so I checked the reviews for this hotel I heard nothing about, and booked the room. This was a brand new special and the staff went out of the way to answer all my questions! When we checked in, we were greeted by Kari who was friendly and helpful, and had the same experience with everyone we met, including the guests. Our room was clean and bright and we will definitely stay here again. It’s a nice change-of-pace from the big hotels, and the decor and atmosphere takes you back to the days of Alaska’s yesteryear with the decor and atmosphere. This is a must for an “off the beaten path” feeling in the heart of of downtown Anchorage!

Unfortunately nothing supernatural occurred. The staff was helpful and very pleasant. Rooms were clean and beds were very comfortable. It is still early in tourist season so very quiet.

Loved this place… Despite this being an overdue review, our memories and experience are permanent. Stayed there in December 2015, and am thinking we are overdue a return trip to Alaska. It's an incredible destination and the Historic Anchorage Hotel only adds to the overall experience. I would highly recommend the property, and the general area due to it's location. Not to mention the history associated with the property. Definitely a go in my book. Thank you!

Very cool old hotel. One of my favorite places to stay in Anchorage. The only reason I'm giving four stars is that they promised us a place for our 1 year old to sleep but their pack and play was broken and they only had a crib. It wasn't the end of the world, but less restful after a long flight than it would have been otherwise.

Teri and Kari have world class service. The rooms were beautifully maintained and so comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. I adore this hotel!

We really just went to rubberneck the classical bar on the first floor. The concierge was very polite and professional though. Would love to see life in that old bar!

What a beautiful place to stay, the reception staff were lovely, it was like stepping back in time, from the lovely foyer with the welcoming fire and comfortable chairs, to our walk, almost stepping back in time, to our room, which was very cosy with the best beds I’ve slept in for a long time. One night stay just isn’t enough, we even enjoyed a visit from one of ghosts who turned our tap on. Hope to return one day. If you’re visiting Anchorage make sure you add this hotel to your must stay list. Thank you for making our stay very special Kari.

Hotel was clean and quaint. The staff was friendly. There was noise outside from cars driving by with music loud but it didnt bother us. We enoyed our stay.

Staff are incredibly helpful and polite, but the loud street musicians and drunk crowds Friday night really ruined our sleep. Also the heating and cooling is very aged. Otherwise it's a very nice hotel with good character.

Wonderful staff took us in after United refused to book us on another airline after a cancelled flight. Great atmosphere, accommodations and a delightful breakfast room with good food.

We had such a wonderful time here! It is beautiful and incredibly clean. Everyone on staff was so helpful and nice! It was so fun to look around the hotel at all the Anchorage history they have and read about the 'hauntings'! 10/10 would stay again. Incredibly reasonably priced for how nice it is!

This is the nicest hotel I have stayed at and I am 70 y/o. Our room has high cellings, four large windows that face a quiet street. It has obviously been recently repainted and the taistfull furnishings are comfortable. Yes, this is a historic hotel with the feel of a the fifties. Everything works, the bathroom fixtures are new and quite high quality, though a bit cramped. The bed is quite comfortable and the five pillows rival what you would find in a Hampton in; that is to say of the highest quality. The staff is quite friendly and professional. The continental breakfast is basic but has excellent waffles and sausage served in a thirties like bar (no alcohol) that is conducive to conversation among guests. We are meeting and getting to know some very interesting people. If you are tired of the chain this is the place. And right down town. The Iderod starts a half a short block from the hotel entrance. You ar right down town. This is a hotel with grace and charm, clean, and everything a traveler needs. We will be here for another week and I will give an update.

My Anchorage home away from home.

The hotel is "historic" in that the rooms, electricity, and other amenities are ancient. The vending/ice machines are broken on half the levels, the windows do not have screens on them, and there are no fans to speak of. This leads to warm nights during the summer. There are no parking options to speak of, leaving you to wake up early to move your car to avoid a fine. The breakfast was nice, but the free Wi-Fi was excruciatingly slow and reminded me of dial-up speeds. Perhaps I am cynical coming from far nice camping cabins, but I was disappointed in the entire hotel. The staff was very nice. Otherwise, would not recommend unless you are into the historic and "authentic" experience.

Although the room was beautiful (like a little apartment with two TVs), the pillows were incredibly uncomfortable and the shower flow was weak. The pillows are so unfortunate because it would be a fairly easy fix. The water wasn't as big of a deal, but I tossed and turned and finally resorted to using a small pillow from the sofa. I hope they get new pillows because it really is a great hotel.

I had a wonderful time during my stay at the Historic Anchorage Hotel. I am a local to Anchorage, but really enjoy taking my "stay-cations" downtown every once in a while. The historic hotel has charm and the staff is always friendly and courteous.

As a travel agent: A boutique bed and breakfast type of hotel in downtown Anchorage. Each room has a golden royal feel with amenities such as free Wi-Fi and complimentary daily newspaper and breakfast. It was first built in 1936 and dignitaries from all over came to stay. Not only do they have photos of these people the hotel is part of Haunted Rooms! Which makes it fascinating and intriguing. There is a hotel log for the ghosts who appear. Staff is more than happy to tell the stories and history. Drop by and let me know if you see a ghost. Sorry, to say I didn't. So go have a BOO experience and the rooms may have an extra guest.

Reservation are for tonight. So far, no reservation confirmation, at all. Had to call up to find out if the reservation actually went through. Me: Hi, I'm calling to confirm my reservation. Hotel Employee (Matt? ) : Can I get your name? Me: First name, last name. H. E. : Yep. Me: Uh. H. E. : Yeah I see it. Me: Umm, okay, I guess I'll see you later. I'll try to edit this after our stay, to see if it gets any better.

My wife and I stayed at the Historic Anchorage Hotel and booked their "Romance" package. The package was to include a Jr Suite, a bottle champagne, a round trip carriage ride to Orsos restaurant with $60 coupon. Checking into the Hotel we were given actual keys. We thought it was all part of the historic charm but still thought it odd. When we finally was able to get to our room and my wife had a very difficult time turning the key to open the door. Once we were able to unlock the door I had to shoulder open the door because it was stuck in the frame. The room was spacious and had a decent view but it was very cold and I was unable to find a thermostat or a heater. Also found that the deadbolt on the door was not working properly and we could not safely secure the door overnight. We went downstairs to report the door and heat issue. To the front desk's credit (I think her name was Jennifer) she immediately changed the room for us and joined us to verify the new room had a functioning deadbolt. We were disappointed to find the new room was not as nice and had no view out the windows except for the rooftops of the building below. Looking around the room I immediately found a couch cushion was placed incorrectly onto the couch. Fixing the cushion I found a large amount of crumbs and dirt under it. I also found the cushions to be extremely dirty and in need of a good steam cleaning. I did not want to think about the rest of the furniture that needed cleaning.
