This was going to be a great 5 star review but things have come to light that warrant a very bad review and warning to others. Room was great, staff was super friendly. On our third day as we left the room just like everyday before I put up the privacy sign on the door. Our room was half cleaned when we got back. We found it strange so I went to the front desk. Nothing appeared missing just odd it was half cleaned. I was told I must have put the service sign up by mistake. Se…cond guessing myself self I shrugged it off. We checked out after staying for ten days. My son is stationed there in the AirForce and was visiting us in our room. Two days later he noticed his kevlar helmet and backpack was missing. We checked that room several times before leaving but since I didn’t have it, nor did he, we must of left it in the room. I called and was told nothing was turned in but to call back tomorrow. This went on for days and I wasn’t giving up as I knew it was there. Every time I called they were nice until I called on Friday and spoke with Sean. He immediately got defensive and rude and shortly hung up after saying he knew nothing about it and he just got the note. I called back and then he said he had personally checked the room three times it it just wasn’t there and hung up again. How can you not know anything about it but check the room at the same time? I called the Anchorage police department to file a complaint.

The room was clean and comfortable. Not the newest but adequate for sure. There is no air conditioing which wasn't a problem when I was there however it could be depending on the temperature. Right downtown so close to all the fun. I would certainly stay here again.

Our room was fantastic. Being self contained was exactly what we needed to be able to eat healthier. Loved the layout and comfortable. But the noise from trains. Unbelievable. I have never heard horns so loud and continually blasted repeatedly and for so long. It's an unfortunate downer for such good accomodation. Location let's it down. On another positive though, the staff and service was very good.

Very nice spacious rooms. The size and amenities of the rooms are what add stars to the rating. What takes away stars is the close proximity to the train station which is incredibly loud. The curtains are very thin and the sun doesn't really set in the summer so it's hard to sleep. I also found a cockroach of some sort in the bathroom.

Two room suites with kitchen. Good value in downtown Anchorage.

This place is completely unpretentious and full of nice amenities — such as a suite style room, refrigerator and kitchenette. Excellent value for the price.

If you love train calls this is the place, they talk all night.

We chose this location because it was near the train station, and we were catching the train in the morning. It was very close to a wonderful walking trail, which allowed us to take a nice, scenic walk — the perfect way to end a long travel day from the east coast. The accommodations were perfect for us. There was a small refrigerator, an oven, microwave, and other creature comforts. There was a nice sitting area with a television and table and a separate bedroom. The staff was very friendly, as well, and the place was clean and comfortable. We only stayed here one night, but I wish I could have taken this suite and staff with us to other towns we visited in Alaska. Great experience!

We stayed in a suite which had a pull out bed and a regular bed, both quite nice and spacious. All appliances worked although the kitchen was lacking pots and pans for the stove. Biggest complaint was how warm the room got even after turning the thermostat all the way down. Thankfully the windows opened still so we were able to regulate it that way in the winter. Overall great customer service and rooms! Would still definitely recommend.

Great price. Very clean, spacious rooms. The continental breakfast is disappointing. The parking is less than convenient. The kitchen in the suite is fantastic for a family.

Very quaint. Excellent staff. Grab and go breakfast delivered to your door. Outstanding location 150 yards from train station, one block from City shops.

Great location for downtown. Sack breakfast and newspaper delivered to your room in the morning, included in the room cost. Nice rooms.

Very clean and in a good location downtown with an easy walk to the Alaska Rail Station. Comfortable and the train horns weren't bad at all. They do add a $100 security deposit to your card at check-in, so make sure you look at your room inventory or you may be charged for a missing item. Liked their little breakfast in a bag too.

Good service and rooms. Early morning breakfast option for door delivery is very good.

Always enjoy my stay at The Grand. A suite instead of a room. Reasonably priced. Treated very well by the staff.

There's nothing "grand" about this hotel. The lobby is down five steps into a half basement, there's no gift shop or restaurant, no claim to fancy at all. Still we liked it a lot and stayed there three times. It's dead close to the Alaska Railroad train depot, which mattered to us because we got around the state on the trains. The best part is that all the rooms are suites, with a living room, kitchenette, and completely separate bedroom. The place was clean and staff were super helpful. We'd go there again next time in town.

Great hotel and it was easy access from the train station. Loved the suite, it really helps when traveling with kids. Breakfast was a continental, for the price it could have been better. Each person got a Quaker oatmeal cup, granola bar, plain bagel and a small apple juice.

Great hotel, pleasant staff, clean room. Only downside was the train noise — it kept up until 1:30am, and started again around 7:30am.

The hotel was very nice. Rooms were spacious suites with higher levels having great views over the ocean. However it was frustrating how poor their internet access was — it was hard to even complete easy tasks such as email. Also, the free continental breakfast was a sad excuse for a meal and a real disappointment. However, the service was great and a mistake was made by the parking lot and we were fined for no reason and the hotel fixed that for us which was helpful. Overall it was a very nice hotel that could be 5 stars if it just really puts some effort into their breakfasts and improves their Wi-Fi capabilities.

Really nice rooms. Really nice staff. Stayed off season. Nicer and less expansive than chains I've stayed at in anchorage.

Great clean place to spend your vacation.

The hotel has decent rooms with stove and refrigerator, but customer service is horrible.

Very clean and spacious rooms. After traveling all through the night, they did allow an early check in for us as soon as they could. Only complaint is the breakfast they provide.

I liked this hotel so much. My family stayed for one night and it was quiet, clean and the front staff was friendly. What I do recommend is: DO NOT make the same "mistake" as we did. We parked on the street (because we weren't told where to park when checking in), and got an expired meter parking ticket when we checked out the next morning at 11. Long story short, my call didn't begin or end well with the manager. She didn't want to hear our side of the story. Her consistent interrupting is what got my already stressed mood into a foul one, which lead me to eventually hanging up on her. Had she better people skills, I'd have no reason to tell her repeatedly she was interrupting me as I was talking. Had we been told where to park, we'd have no reason to park anywhere else than the designated parking lot. 2 stars for her (as she did offer to take care of the ticket, but we declined after dealing with her), 5 for the hotel itself. The owners did and continue doing a great job with up-keeping their hotel. Other than that, the building and location is very nice, clean and convenient.

We choose this hotel because it was the cheapest in the downtown area, so we weren't expecting much when we checked in. However, the staff were super friendly, offering us free cookies on arrival and the room was comfy and surprisingly spacious. Exactly what we needed after a long day of travelling.

I live in Homer AK and go into Anchorage often for shopping etc. I usually stay at a les expensive hotel, but am always charged for smoking in the room — (we don't smoke) — this hotel was wonderful — clean and spacious/ very friendly staff. It's a little extra to park, but some anchorage hotels make you park by meter : (This was a very pleasant experience — extremely comfortable beds and the daily paper on my doorstep. I even enjoyed the way they provide breakfast coupons for local buisnesses rather than stale muffins and bagles like some places. Some friends stayed in another room on the 2nd floor and complained about the train noise, but on the 5th floor we did not mind it. The train is always parked at the station and there is a low hum from the engine — but nothing you can sleep through — Unless you focus on it, you could miss it.

Very freindly downtown hotel with large rooms. My basement room was a bit odd, looking out at feet on the sidewalk.
