Worst buffet ever… they say international but its not even local. I can say its road shop has good spread than this buffet. I tried because Ive been to Jie Jie Beach buffet… its top (Both managed by Jetwing)

The most disgusting hotel stay ever! unless you want to be touched by random men don't go. Checked in with a bad impression… Staff doesn't even know anything called professional customer service! During booking we informed that one room was for an anniversary celebration but no deco and when inquired we were told they don't do any such things! Informed there are no toiletries in the room and they sent a half used toilet roll. Only one pot of something which could be shampoo or conditioner or body wash was there and even that was without a lid. Only bath towels were available and could see yellow stain marks on the pool towels clearly. Bed linen had pen marks on it, sand under the furniture, stains on the cusions and our friend had open tea bags instead of packs. Water was provided in a small flask and the kettle was filled with water. It was a tiny buffet for both dinner and breakfast. Buffet organisation was crazy. There was yoghurt in the middle of the salad bar and the bread was tossed to a corner with dessert! Cutlery was a mixture of all designs seems like ones discarded from other hotels. Pasta was over cooked, pork too sweet so my dinner was only potato with mayonese. Breakfast menu was even worse! Baked beans were wiredly smaller and crunchier. It was more like peanuts in tomato sauce. Omlet from action station had too much salt in it. Sausages were just tossed into the dish with nothing to help absorb oil. All buns were too old to be consumed.

Very supportive friendly staff and calm n quiet environment with many indoor n outdoor games including music.

Best place and good quality service team.

One of the best stays with high standard. The sea view was awesome and really loved the surroundings. Very friendly staff and well maintained rooms and cleanliness was superb. With the affordable rates, I highly recommend this hotel for your stay. Food was delicious and overall it was a good experience and we will really come again in the future.

Worst management of a hotel I have ever seen in all my worldly travels. Staff is amazing, location is alright and amenities are great, but the management is so bad sticking their noses in businesses they should it ruins your whole experience. highly not recommended until ownership changes management!

Thoroughly enjoyed my recent stay at this very comfortable hotel.
This was my 4 visit & did not disappoint.
Most of guest were there just for quarantine period so it felt like an exclusive resort.
The reason I return is because I find it great value for money, I love the layout, the food, the service & the staff are always so thoughtful.
I always book the most spacious room which gives me the room to spread out.
The all inclusive deal particularly in the current environment is definitely value for money.
No entertainment due to Covid restrictions but we managed to do yoga most mornings,
Played Badminton & squash, used the gym & swam a lot.
I can also highly recommend the spa. Treatments a little limited at this time but I still enjoyed 5 treatments in my 14 day stay.
All in all a very peaceful & relaxing stay. A big thank you to the staff for making this stay so enjoyable.

Mermaid is an absolute hidden gem. It is a small hotel that is perfect in every way. The staff are so helpful and will help you in every and any way they can.
The buffet food is fantastic, such a great variety of dishes and flavours from around the world. The head chef, Malindu is so helpful and accommodating, happy to talk to you about recipes, allergies etc. He even printed off my favourite dish so I can make it at home.
The restaurant and main bar staff are excellent and the service is second to none. Indika, Eranga, Prasana and Nandi are marvellous, your children will always get a drink and are never ignored! Ask Prasana to do his magic tricks.
The pool and sports area are beautifully clean and tidy, towels are always available and spotlessly clean.
A big thank you to Hishan for teaching Alfie to play cricket.
The management staff are all super friendly and Malika, (Food and Beverage) went out of his way to make sure our Type 1 Diabetic son was well catered for and that diet coke was available free of charge for him.
The evening entertainment is fair, live bands, DJ etc. The absolute highlight is the Fire Limbo show! Its fantastic!
Check in is a straight forward, easy process.
This is my second visit to Mermaid, we will definitely come back.
It is truly a family welcome and you really do feel like friends, not tourists.

The best hotel of any possible, an amazing service, beautiful atmosphere. All the employees of the hotel, starting from the cleaners to the top managers of the hotel, are real profesilsionals. All the members of the staff are very pleasant friendly people. You feel yourself as at home due to the very good careful attitude all the time. The work of the whole staff is thoughtful to the smallest details, and everyone feels so warm and comfortable here any time. I recommend this hotel to everyone. This is the place where you want to return again and again! The hotel deserves the highest assessments up to all possible criteria!

Spacious… Good for family entertainment. Less is variety at the Buffet for the charged amount compared to other places in the surrounding. A good place for those who want to spend time at a calm and relaxed environment or for a day off.

Good rooms, good view and a friendly staff. Food wasn't that good though and no drinking water was supplied to the rooms. They told us that we could use the water in the jug kettles in the rooms to drink, but the water was hard. That point was very disappointing.

Actually This is a great place to spend your holiday. Staff Services are very friendly and good. Rooms are in good conditions. Clean and good cleaning service. Food is very delicious and many varieties. Near to Kaluthara Bodhi. Good Sea view and pool facility. Recommended! :)

For a 3 star hotel it's worth. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Beautiful scenery around the hotel. They've got gym and free yoga program for guests. It's worth for the money you spending. This was our first time and we changed a double room to triple one we paid for double room the front staff was very nice and helpful to do the amendments. I guess this is one place you will love to visit.

Amazing place full of super food, great facilities and kind and caring people. Saman and Eranga are particularly friendly. Table tennis, pool and pool (! ), gym, yoga, buffet! Comfy beds and super views too. Go! X.

Most relaxing and a beautiful Hotel with a lovely sea view. Very pleasant and friendly staff. Food was delicious at all times and I would say it's a very clean and a tidy hotel. Rooms are specious and comfortable. From the time we entered the hotel until we checked out we were looked after well. I requested Mr. Kumarasiri for a special surprise birthday dinner arrangement and he has done a perfect job more than I expected. Thank you to the management and all staff for making it a wonderful stay. Finally I should mention we also enjoyed using the Sports section and even the Spa was great. Wow thank you Mermaid. Awaiting to go again. No doubt, anyone will enjoy their stay in Sri Lanka, if they choose to stay at Mermaid.

We stayed at the Mermaid for 10 days in June. Not the most plush hotel but clean and well laid out. The food was good and all the staff were fantastic, they couldnt do enough for us. Local drinks on the all inclusive package are fine, and the sports staff are so friendly. Waiters are very attentive and speak reasonable English, (especially Sammy) We are looking to book again for the same time next year. Some may be put off by the rainy season but for us it was fine, rain for 10 or 15 minutes each day which dried up in no time. Definitely would recommend for a no frills but good place to stay. My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful week at the Mermaid Hotel. This 2nd visit was 10 yrs after our 1st visit and it was just as special the 2nd time around.
The staff were out of this world from reception, housekeeping, bar and restaurant they could not do enough for you and it was great to see several staff who we remembered from our 1st visit. The food was excellent and there was plenty of choice even though there were not many guests staying.
Would I return, most definitely, would I recommend this hotel absolutely

This hotel in the best in Sri Lanka. No doubt about it. All staff, from kitchen, room service, bar and restaurant, spa and management were very professional, friendly and excellent. Really made our holiday great. Without a doubt I would definatly come back here. We have stayed in a good few 4 to 5 star hotel here, and this is definatly the best there is. Why it's only rated as a 3 star plus I just do not know, because it beats all the other hotels hands down. The rooms and facilities and location are excellent. The range and quality of food is excellent. Thank you mermaid hotel and club for a great time, hope to see you next year.

Perfect setting, right on the beach. Friendly and helpful staff, good food, pleasant evening entertainment, plenty of trips and activities to do. Good spa and spirts facilities. Not good for children (no entertainment, nothing for them to do) or the disabled (no lift, dining room accessible only by stairs).

The hotel seems to have collected some years. It's in a good shape, but some architectural sins like dark, empty corridors can't be easily fixed. The all inclusive offer is so so. "Fresh juices" stands for one preselected juice like watermelon. Other juices are from concentrates and "not so great". The snacks are ok, but nothing more. The simple rule applies: You get what you pay for. … While here's definitely a good revenue margin. The pool, garden and beach area are nice. Sometimes stray dogs are at the beach and entering the garden, but we haven't had any unpleasant experience with them.

This has to be one of the nicest hotels I have been to, it’s small and friendly and the people who work here are amazing! Everyone is so friendly, and they can’t do enough for you! Nehal done an amazing job every day keeping our room spotlessly clean and tidy! All the meals were fantastic, Nananjay is lovely and looked after us during meal times. There was plenty to choose from every day. The pool area is very relaxing, Priya always made sure that everything was just right! I felt that I was looked after so well during my stay that I can’t wait to return! I cried when I had to leave! The team are a credit to this hotel and they all have hearts of gold!

Rest in Mermaid from 5 to 15 March 2018 we like (before that much where there were, to compare there with what).
1. Hotel grounds: Green, well-groomed, clean everywhere, including water in the pool. From vegetation, mainly, coconut palms, magnolia, yucca.
2. Ocean: Feared that in the ocean it is impossible to swim because of the waves, but we are not out of the water! So…! Warm, on waves to jump one pleasure. Far not go, feel the power of the ocean, can drag. But the coast is cool. Meters 15-20 from coast depth on a belt, then meters 10 a shallow-just above a knee, then again on a belt of meters 10 and further on a breast and deeper. There is already dangerous (if the red flag is worth). Waves go big, with high Grebneem, then break about a shallow and turn to usual with which it is possible to "play".
The bottom is sandy, smooth, without stones, if you get under the wave, the stones will not hit.
Once again I pay attention-just calmly swim in the ocean will not work, it is in the pool with regular water (why not fill the pool with sea water? )

3. Service and food are mostly good. Russian truth few people know. In the restaurant a little impudent waiters, if "" Not fed "tips, will be long to sit to wait for drinks (coffee, tea, alcohol) and ice cream in the room cleaned well. On which or malfunction react quickly. We had a light bulb, the maid saw-came, made quickly.

The hotel is situated on a stunning beach with swaying palm trees. The sunsets can be spectacular and we saw the occasional monkey! It is the staff here that make this place truly special though, everybody is so friendly and happy to help. A wonderful hotel!

We enjoyed a bumper holiday (four couples aged 28-60) at the Mermaid and had an absolute blast. All inclusive, it was perfect for us to either chill by the pool or go off on excursions around Sri Lanka. The staff are absolutely sensational. They are friendly, attentive and passionate and will make you feel really part of a happy community. This extends into the activities that keep you pleasantly occupied (aqua aerobics, yoga, spa, boules, volleyball) and bring you close to other guests. The food is a brilliant buffet of delicious curries and is very veggie friendly. Our rooms were simple and very comfortable with a beautiful view of the resort and the beach. We loved this place and it made for a perfect family holiday.

This is not a 3 star hotel, it is without a doubt a 4 star hotel at a 3 star price. The staff are just incredible — they will do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I encountered no problems with my room which was surprising really beautifully presented and the bathroom was excellent, even better than most hotel bathrooms in the UK. Our towels and bed linen were changed everyday and our housekeeper even added petals to the bed everyday, it was a classy touch and we appreciated it. We stayed on an all inclusive basis which was absolutely fine — the food was often very much the same most nights but that is to be expected and the drinks were slightly limited with wine being extra but you can blame the import tax for that rather than the hotel. The service however from the staff during mealtimes was exceptional and they deserve as much praise as possible. The pool was excellent and we enjoyed it very much although do be aware that this hotel has it's fair share of sun bed hoggers unfortunately. The staff will however bring more out onto the garden for you if you ask them. There are beach boys but they will not bother you if you say no, you just have to be firm and polite. The beach itself isn't great and the sea is extremely rough, I would not recommend swimming in it but a paddle is fine. Overall, I would 100% recommend this hotel — it's a total gem and worthy of your time and money if you're taking a trip to Sri Lanka.

Visited for lunch with family for the buffet lunch. Average spread. Great food. Loved " Cuttlefish Moju. " Average selection of beverages and cocktails. Staff in a friendly way and helpfull. Kitchen staff would take the trouble to talk to diners and inquire about food if you are willing. They do not disturb you though.

We’ve just returned from a relaxing 10 days at the Mermaid Hotel and club. The outstanding feature was the friendliness of the staff and their desire to ensure we enjoyed our holiday and nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms were lovely, all having a view of the sea, the grounds well cared for and the opportunity to relax in peace and quiet or join the range of activities available at the club adjacent to the garden was commendable. We particularly liked the availability of water coolers avoiding the use of plastic bottles. I thought that it was a little extreme not to offer mojitos or similar as part of the all inclusive package simply because sugar and mint needed to be added, perhaps the management could look at this as the spirits are part of the package. A small hotel where many people return on a regular basis which is reflective of the popularity of this hotel and club.

Everything is top notch. I recommend it to everyone. It's cool.

The hotel staff was very friendly and supportive. It was a very relaxing getaway indeed!

Nice hotel with great location on the beach… initially I gave it four stars. Now I downgraded to two. Internet seems to cut out constantly at check-out time (I saw this happen every one of the five days I was there… curious that internet fails everyday at the same time! ) so impossible to order an uber and you end up taking their taxis which are double the price! Also, no fans in rooms so you are stuck with loud A/C all night. Finally, for some reason, two days into my stay somebody called from reception demanding that I pay my extras bill (room was already paied through expedia) in advance because they needed cash… I did not comply and it stopped there but it was extremely rude.

Nice place for family getaway. We booked the hotel with all inclusive package. So we arrived the hotel at around 2pm. Front desk staff was so friendly. They greeted us and welcomed us. Then we got the welcome drink and there are no trouble getting our rooms. Helping staff took our luggage and drop all of us to our rooms (there are 25 people in our group with kids. ). Around 3.30 we got a tea and snack. There is a separate area for that even. We had the snacks and go for the sport area. We played cricket, water polos, and have so much fun. At 8.00 we go for our dinner. Before that we had some drinks (all local drinks, cocktails and beer are free unlimited for all inclusive package. Think about that. Mmmmm…). At the dinner table even you can have beer and cocktail. What a nice way to have food. Foods are great. So many varieties to select. Helping staff are so much friendly. They will help what ever you want, they will bring to your table. So we had very nice dinner, breakfast, and Lunch. If want to have spa treatment also available. We have so much fun staying over here. Great Experience… we are looking forward to go againg…

Super Hotel! Everyone is trying and doing their job perfectly!

Well, as a repeat guest I feel a bit disappointed. The staff are great. The food is adequate. The new room is nice. I would like to watch a film or play on TV, but not possible. Sports or discovery, that's it. My only winge is the people allowed smoking in the bars and the restaurant terraces,. Thanks for managers response on trip advisor, however, the restaurant is upstairs and the only bar up there is in the pool table room. The standard bar is down in the lounge where smoking is common. Why not make the whole hotel non smoking.?

All inclusive includes for water with syrop, no juices not even bottled water, or "complicated" hot beverages like cappuccino, everything is extra. Poor food choice, and had to go to shop to get fruits other than watermelon, Nothing to do for kids. Poor entertainment and I have seen better spas in private apartment buildings. Beach is dirty and not looked after. Clean enough in the hotel and friendly people but must be poor management with strange ideas on how to drain your pocket.

Absolutely excellent place to stay. Relaxing, clean, and brilliant staff! Don't be put off by the beech boys they are not out to harm. You they just trying to earn a honest living bit if you say no they will. Leave it as no. We loved it and we will be coming back very soon. Not for kids as there nothing to do for them. It's just a relaxing holiday. Lovely people lovely place 10/10

Nice 3 star hotel, needs updating. Went full board and food was good. Lovely gardens to sun bathe with very tamed chipmunks and good sport club facility with friendly head coach. Sea was rough in moonsoon season but beach was untidy and intimidating people were trying to sell their wares. Venturing outside the hotel compound attracted a following of less fortunate locals. It is a poor country so this is expected. But Sigiriya and elephants tour organised via tour operator agent is magical and must-do. Take or buy extra small bananas as the elephants love to eat them and one of the elephants used his trunk on my feet to ask for more. The driver and guide was knowledgable and very courteous and friendly. Lots of buddist temple as.

Loved the visit. This is probably the only hotel we could book online on full board basis. So that was very convenient. The rooms were great and staff was very helpful. Whenever they saw us carrying a bag they would immediately come and help us. The food was excellent and catered toward foreigners. If you're a local and crave local Sri Lankan dishes then this might not be the place for you. We loved the fact that they had a snack bar open throughout the day so we can enjoy a tea or a snack. And the booklet provided explaining what we're entitled to was very helpful. Highly recommended and will definitely visit again.

Had a rest in November 2013 year. Really liked it. Great hotel, wonderful staff. Cuisine is very tasty, varied.

We came and stayed in March 2013. Having stayed in many hotels in Sri Lanka, mostly 4 and 5 star places we cannot fault the Mermaid in any way. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and the food excellent too. Why would you want to go anywhere else? Within two weeks of coming home to England we had rebooked for March 2014 and this will be our 15th time in a wonderful country. Can't wait. The cashew and pea curry is a must and the fish curry for breakfast is unmissable.

Lovely 3star hotel, which had better reviews for service and food than the 4star hotels nearby that we had checked out. Staff here are very friendly and cannot do enough for you to make your stay the best it can be – and the chefs are very accommodating to specific requests (even when we requested something just 1hr before dinner after arriving back from a 1day tour and did not feel up to the heavier dishes being served that night). Activities staff are great and extremely energetic, especially Shiva (who is an athlete and Sports Scientist). They even sorted out lunch for us on our last day, as our flight was delayed. Fruit and mid-morning snacks were great pool side treats, and the cookies and cakes for tea were so fresh and moreish. Food and service was as good as luxury hotels we have stayed in previously. Highly recommended!

We liked everything about the hotel from 14 may to 4 June. Very good hotel, with good food, there is something for everyone. The staff was friendly, cheerful, I made friends with many. Very pleasant impression about all. The rooms comfortable, clean, every day they change the bed and comfortable mosquitoes at the same time to put on the bed Jasmine flowers. Very nice for the ladies. And beautiful hair looks: —) ) ) I would recommend not:for a reasonable price excellent quality.
