Was here in June 2014. Absolutely loved it, would come back again. +++++ General The hotel was very stylish. We were served drinks on arrival and we were able to go up to our room within 30 mins. The room was modern and stylish, staff were great and helpful although like with anywhere, I hid anything precious when I went out. Safekeep costs 2E per day. Wifi is 4E per day, 7E for two days or 10E for 4 days. The hotel has two pools, one outside with a bar and eatery, the other is inside with a spa, sauna and steam room. The spa costs 6E per day per person. Restaurant serves all-you-can-eat three times per day. Bar is open between 10am — 12am. The bar is great, lots of good booze is free on the all-inclusive, including most spirits and draughts. Overall, the hotel was great. Just please fix the toilet doors on floor — 1 (the spa), because I got locked in! And finally, the entertainment is mainly for kids and so isn't that great :) Staff The receptionists were extremely nice. They were all fluent in English, with only some occasional difficulties and were exceptionally helpful in getting to know Salou. The cleaning staff can't speak English, but they were all lovely — to get around that just learn some basic Spanish. Bar staff were great and friendly, as were restaurant staff. Restaurant staff were quite professional. The only difficulty I had was that by email, not all staff could speak English and so gave me the price for the spa instead of the Wi-Fi, but face-to-face this was easy to sort out with reception. Hygiene The whole place is pretty clean. Salou is extremely clean generally, and the hotel is even cleaner. In some of the bathrooms, I'd say a bead of sealer could be run around wet areas (it had discoloured so can grow mould). Rooms were cleaned every day, maids were thorough. Room The room was excellent. I believe all of the rooms have just been refurbished. The decor was great, beds and linen were comfortable. Bathrooms were very stylish wet rooms, very modern. Rooms were spacious with remote-controlled aircon and a flat screen TV showing Spanish programmes. Each room has a balcony, ours was great. Fairly quiet at night, although sometimes night entertainment can penetrate the rooms, as can Salou nightlife occasionally (depends where you get put). Restaurant Food was pretty good actually. Most of it was domestic food for each nationality making up the hotel (i. E. French, German, Spanish and English). Food tended to be European with some Spanish tweaks, e. G. They serve English breakfast but with Spanish ham instead of bacon and Chorizo instead of pork sausages. Restaurant serves buffet food and also at a show cooking counter they prep good meats and fish as stakes or cuts from a roasted joint. Serves three times a day, all-you-can-eat and table service is provided at lunch and for dinner. Pool The pool was great. I couldn't be bothered charging at sun loungers, however if you're willing to hold off for an hour or two, they usually become available for groups of 2 or 3. Food served at the bar is standard take-out food, e. G. Burger and chips, but isn't bad at all. Pool games during the day include volleyball, some zumba style thing, dancing or whatever takes fancy at the time. The Area Being in Spain, a lot of people do speak English but quite a few don't. The people are really nice, but they don't like the typical ignorant Brit who doesn't make an effort. Pick up a language tape and you'll really get so much more out of your holiday. I had no problem getting around and being understood. People have a lot of respect for English who can speak even the tiniest amount of Spanish — makes a difference when getting around. Overall, I thought it was awesome. If you're with Thompson, there are a lot of things to do in Salou. Just bare in mind that the excursions are pricey, so if you're struggling to afford the excursions (days out), then book them with Bus Plana which is just down the road, they charged 1/3 of price. Monserrat for just 25E, was 58E per person with Thompson.
