Dude, such a refreshing to be: Located right in the heart of Maboneng — couldn't have had a better experience of JHB living at Curiocity.

A fantastic spot in Maboneng its the place to stay if you are traveling solo and on a flexible itinerary. They have a great bar the Hideout Bar most probably one of the top 5 bars in Johannesburg.

Very cheap place, compared to the Airbnb and hotels in Johannesburg. I slept on the 8 shared bedroom and it was ok. The hostel is located in the middle of the most agitated nightlife place of Johanesburg. The living are is very cosy and comfortable. The only problem I had was the shared men bathroom, it was very dirty and wet.

What's not to love about Curiocity. Everything about this hostel is amsing. Modern, charming hostel in the heart of Maboneng. Excellent staff, great service and a travel desk will book you on a variety of tours. Take a walk around the hood, taking in downtown Jozi hip culture, artisinal restaurants and local designer stores. Meet creatives, watch independent movies at the Bioscope and enjoy a drink at Curiocity's vibey bar. Make sure you stay for the Sunday market at Market on Main, Love their fireplace in winter and hot tub in summer. Rooms are moderns and well equipped. One of the best hostels to stay at in Jozi. Good vibes all around.

The people that work here are amazing! So helpful and they provide a good amount of tours around jo'burg and near by. We stayed in the 12 Decades Hotel through them and the place was amazing! Also the location is in a very safe spot in Jo'burg and the restaurants near by are all amazing to eat at. I went to 3 different places to eat and everything I had was great!

Front desk is super helpful, n Baba Ray gives safe, easy transport/pickup wherever u need to go!

Don't bother with anywhere else in Joburg. Curiocity is super close to transport and in a super nice 24hr security patrolled area. The hostel is well equipped with a great kitchen and the most amazing shared Wi-Fi I've witnessed in a hostel. They offer city tours from the door which is also super convenient.

A truly different place, great location on a safe street surrounded by bars and restaurants! They offer great activities for the solo traveller or groups. Friendly and helpful staff! A definite stay over when visiting Johannesburg!

The vibe, the staff, the convenience. Also an ATM on site. Don't let the catchy name sway you, this place can back up it's 4 Star Accomodation with a diverse group of people always contributing to its vibrant atmosphere. A must visit if you're coming from outside Johannesburg.

Clean rooms. Wonderful staff. Possibility to organize tours for the city on foot, by bicycle, in skateboard.
Don't stay here and like you haven't seen Johannesburg.

Great hostel to stay in! The Maboneng area is also the area you want to stay in when in Joburg. I was there for halloween and they organised a really fun drinking game night. The only downsides: the girls’ bathroom on the first floor is not really practical. And at the little breakfast place (which has the best french toast) you can only pay in cash.

It's a great backpacker! Rooms are comfy and the bar is amazing. I had also a city tour with Jazz and it was amazing too. Unfortunately Joburg is not that safe and so it's almost impossible to walk in the city freely.

Cool spot in the busy area of the city. The staff are very helpful and they have an awesome tour of Soweto and Johannesburg!

Though not staying at the premises, this is my 4th visit within a year in their 'Hide Out Bar' where you find a no-nonsense, warm welcome, amazing positive Staff and correct prices. This is the type of service which you start missing in other parts of Joburg as well as SA…

What a beautiful place. The bar is a place to meet beautiful people from around the globe with ecclectic views and tastes. The management is very courteous and understanding of all people regardless of their station in life. They treat you with respect and allow you the chance to be known for who you are. Love it.

I'm banned from here for no real reason that can be explained in writing. It's a beautiful place though and I would highly recommend visiting it. However, just be aware that some entities will do thier utmost to impose some very unfortunate and slightly immature tactics of intimidation using the friends you manage to make there. These same entities will not have the respect to address you personally and will obliviously alienate the people they claim to care for. In summary, a beautiful, reasonably priced Backpackers with the accolades to match unfortunately haunted by the ego of someone who will go out of their to discredit this review and the reviewer.

Cosy, friendly atmosphere. Staff at reception and the bar are a fun bunch. Location is perfect for those looking for a lively vibe; restaurants, bars. Some nice artwork on nearby buildings add to the youthful atmosphere of the neighbourhood.

I love everything about this place, the place itself is welcoming, clean, amazingly happy staff:Michelle, Dudu, Bk, Freedom & Bafana… these are the first people I met and they welcomed me very warmly, I love you very much guys and thank you for making me feel at home, thank you thank you thank you… I'm definitely coming back. Great staff, good accomodations, and a nice bar. The neighborhood can be a bit dangerous though.

Excellent atmosphere, attention and is located in the safest area of Johannesburg. It would lack a bit of cleanliness but it is a detail only.

There is one place where the staff, the vibe and the connection with the city is so clear and authentic. The Hide Out Bar is world class and the beds are great for crashing after a solid day swinging through the Urban Jungle.

I was here on 21/10/2017. In the night about 2.30am, a girl was outside of my room screeching, and keep saying help me, and is there anybody here? I heard someone behind her, she was crying and saying someone wanted to rap her. I was not able to understand why it happened in the hostel. I won't recommend this hostel to anyone. The restroom was outside of my room, after that I had to wait until moring to use toilet.

Very different. Not your regular hostel. Innovative in design and the decor is amazing. Location is as Johannesburg as you can get.

An amazing hostel in a safe part of the city. The staff and follow travelers were very friendly. Good vibes all around! They have a live music and poetry jam session Sunday nights led by Children of the Wind that include locals and you can join in too or just sit back and enjoy it.

Had heaps of fun staying at Curiocity! I was travelling alone and the different activities they have every night along with a comfy bar, made meeting people really easy and fun! Staff were also super friendly and helpful.

Very pleasant atmosphere, located in a pretty safe area as far as I've noticed. Staff is very friendly and very helpful. Jacuzzi was fun, as was the pool table. Everything is clean as well, with a pretty well equipped kitchen. Only thing that might've been nice would be a free or cheap shuttle service, as other places offer, though I get that's quite hard to run with such a large place and therefore didn't mind that much. Jo'burg is pretty well connected anyway.

Not just a fun place, but fun people too! Very welcoming staff who will help you both inside and outside of the backpackers. They organize events such as soccer games to go to and other shenanigans to get into. Also, there's a rooftop next door with frequent parties on top. Not only will it peak your curiosity, but it will fulfill it as well.

Best time you'll have in town!

Funky and oh so cool. Definitely for the young or young at heart. Centrally located, safe and a gateway to exploring the Inner City of Johannesburg and surrounds. Situated in the trendy Maboneng precinct there is definitely something for everyone. If you're up for different and experiencing one of the coolest city backpackers I know of. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

The best backpacker in Johannesburg by far.

This was one of the best backpackers in which I've stayed. The vibe, the staff and the accommodation were amazing, and it's very decently priced. The backpackers is in the heart of the Maboneng Precinct, which means you're a stones throw from some great restaurants and bars. Definitely a must-visit if you're in the area.

What a place, such helpful staff. The backpackers has such an amazing vibe to it with so many activities to keep you busy. The tours are HIGHLY recommended! Keep it up! I recommended this place to any backpacker looking to stay in a trendy, well priced, centrally located and safe place with a very chilled atmosphere.

Curiocity Backpackers is a very lively place. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Rooms are clean, spacious and beds are very comfortable. If you are planning to come to Johannesburg then look no further CURIOCITY BACKPACKERS is the place to be:-).

By far the coolest backpackers (flashpacker) in Johannesburg and the rest of Africa. Authentic experience of Johannesburg and situated in a really great neighbourhood with loads of activities to do.
